This is a beautiful story with amazing illustrations. The illustrations are stunning and so interesting, beautiful borders with flowers, fungi, leaves and animals. As you can see from the cover, Sarda uses an autumnal colour palette which suits the forest setting and the folk tale feel. The wolf images are wonderful, there's so much to look at. The tale was nicely told with a comforting storyline of finding and valuing a good friend.
Ohhh this is such a perfect (platonic) love story in miniature - a really lovely fairy tale with a genuinely surprising (and Just Right) ending and stunningly gorgeous illustrations by Júlia Sardà. I was given this as a Christmas gift for myself and absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it to adults, but I also read it out loud to my 7-year-old, and he loved it, too.
We'll definitely BOTH be re-reading it many times in the future!
To be completely honest, I bought this for the illustrations. And who wouldn't? I just adore Júlia Sardà's aesthetic and I'll definitely keep buying books she illustrates, because she is absolutely amazing. The story was nice. I can't help but feel that there could have been more, everything went very smoothly and certain pieces felt way too convenient for the story. But this is a fairy-tale for kids, so I get it. Overall, I would recommend this book if you are visually oriented reader/like Sardà's work or are a simply a lover of wolves.
A wonderful fairytale, that I think is modern - but has an ancient/classic feel to it. A wolf is Prince of the Forest and all the forest creatures are afraid of him (with good reason). Yet, it is revealed he has a secret and he is haunted by the beauty of a young woman and her song. The tale then explores what the wolf decides to do about this. This book is exquisitely presented, with illustrations that draw you in, looking at every detail.
I nice enough story for young children. Not one that’s likely to become a favourite. The book itself is beautiful and the illustrations are fascinating, if a bit dark. Based on my experience of sharing this book with a 5year old.
Magnifique !
This was actually a really really enjoyable and incredibly charming fairytale-like book. I think the art style was great, and surprisingly, I found that this book has really strong slavic vibe in a way that feels like it's not only conveying something traditional, but also something very familiar to the artist. That despite never having been in a traditional slavic home or country, I felt comfortable in the illustrations, and felt like I connected to the decor, and carpets, and warm cups of tea. I definitely would like to check out more by this illustrator and other books like this one, and I definktely recommend checking out this book to anyone who's looking for a short, charming, slavic, slightly eerie fairytale, with a great art style and interesting story.
The Wolf is feared by all animals in the forest, he is a hunter and a threat to them. But when he meets the beautiful voice of a young lady, the Wolf feels completely involved with it and always goes to her to listen. And that is something that is life changing both for him and the lady. This picture book is deeper and darker and I would recommend it for older children! A magical friendship story with dazzling illustrations by Julia Sarda (yes, I bought it because of her beautiful dark style).
Aaaaaaah j’adore l’automne :,)
Such a beautiful and enchanting book with illustrations that capture the heart. I was left smiling all through out the story, especially when I reached the end. Beautiful, heart-warming and the way stories should be told to children.
Every year around this time I treat myself to a gorgeous picture book, even though my kids are too old for them. I purchased this one on the recommendation of a friend and I am SO glad I did. This book is utterly gorgeous: a delightfully surprising take on an old tale, illustrated with charming artwork that feels like a quiet hug. An absolute gem that readers of ALL ages can appreciate - it feels like a timeless classic. Highly recommended.
