When Rock Fueler wants to build a golf course, he begins forcing people out of the upper west side of Mouseton. Too bad Mickey Mouse and his best friend Horace Horsecollar have other ideas...

There's a lot of stuff going on here. Set during the Great Depression, this is a tale of the little guy fighting back against the big guy. There's also coffee being used to enslave the workforce and Mickey and Horace being dominated by their respective girlfriends. It's drawn in a surprisingly detailed style and formatted like a newspaper cartoon. It's a lot of fun and I play on sharing it with my son when he gets a little older.

The highest quality!!

another example of JG publishing acumen in the intro: (my translation) "and one day Jacques Glénat remembered that creating a Mickey strip was a lifelong dream of mine"

...that reverence and the resulting dedication absolutely shows! I'm only in the 30s of pages but was almost immediately assured of excellence throughout.
It was blatant that Régis had gone through 1930s Mickey until he knew how to create it himself as the aesthetics appeared back then with the adored flourishes of that era such as the thin quicky "tacked°up°panel". I must mention the hurry that was upon Disney artists back then- which shows in how much better the characters look painted, with consummate craftsmanship, by a less frantic schedule and the decades of synthesis into their subtle Loisel uniqueness.

First of all, the art here is really impressive. The trait is characterised by a powerful - almost violent! - dynamism. In many panels the view/camera position is bold. Backgrounds feel as visually present as the moving characters. The ink strikes are sophisticated. The colours are interestingly pushed on the matte side, an unusual choice for a Mickey Mouse comic book. Honestly, never seen something like that in a Disney comic. Now that I think about it, from an artistic point of view this work is out of standard for any kind of funny animals comics that I may remember.
Much less, so much less, interesting from a narrative point of view. In particular, I find the staging/storytelling flow/layout - whatever you call it - to be often too much diluted. It looks as if Losiel was sacrificing the appropriate mis-en-scène and rhythm just to have fun in drawing some more complex and hyper-dynamic panels.
When choosing to use the strip format - in homage to the early work of Floyd Gottfredson - Loisel was playing with fire. And maybe he got a little bit burnt.
The plot is ok. It may be interpreted as sexist here and there, so I am not sure that everyone is going to love it. (Especially in the United States, if they ever publish it there.) To be clear: I do understand that in those 'sexist bits' Loisel is mocking the old-time sexism, but I fear that not everyone will be able to realise it. More generally, the sensation of let's make an edgy Mickey Mouse is a bit too visible here, and may even disturb.
All in all, this was an interesting and visually beautiful experiment, that I hope Loisel will repeat again...maybe with the support of another writer, no offence intended?

Lewis Trondheimin Mikin hulluimmat seikkailut aloitti uuden ja mielenkiintoisen sarjan, jossa eurooppalaiset sarjakuvataiteilijat päästetään hääräilemään Disney-universumissa ja luomaan omia tulkintojaan Mikin, Akun ja kumppanien seikkailuista. Nyt vuorossa on Régis Loisel, jonka käsialaa oleva "Zombi-sumppi" (Sanoma, 2017) osoittautui varsin oivalliseksi albumiksi sekin. Vanhojen animaatioiden suuntaan kumartava retrohenkinen kuvitus on sanalla sanoen loisteliasta, eikä pula-ajan Yhdysvaltoihin sijoittuva tarinakaan hassumpi ole, vaikka joitakin rönsyjä olisikin voinut karsia pois. Oikein laadukas paketti!

Dynamiczna akcja i cudowna jazda freestyle Minnie i Klarabelli 😁

Paikoin hersyvän hauska, mutta vähän kohkaamiseksi mennyt loppuratkaisu syö yhden tähden. Kaikesta huolimatta voittaa lähes kaikki perusankkatuotannot. Loisel on saanut puhallettua vähän 'sitä jotain'. Lewis Trondheimin Mikin hulluimmat toimi kyllä paremmin, imo.

No, il formato è diverso...

The following book I’ve read was, Mickey mouse: Zombie coffee. The book was about Mickey and his friend Horace finding a job so they can get paid and have fun with their girlfriends, sadly they couldn’t get a job and people have been spying on them to ruin their lives. Later in the comic book every father was under control by this controlling coffee and the boss of the evil scheme made the fathers who are under his control; to destroy the forest and homes to make a golf course.
The comic book overall was well done and funny to read. I think I'd like to read it as many times as I can because it never fails to amaze me. The book itself is comedy and action which are my favorite kind of category in shows, movies, and games. The part in the book where Mickey and Peg-legged Pete were fighting was very eye-catching because the pictures show them how they were fighting and the art style made it so intriguing to see, Where the comedy part comes to play is when clarabelle fell into the water and asked to be saved and horace comes to save her but he failed miserably. There was even a part where Donald, Mickey, and Horace struggle to bring the boat out which leads to a hilarious disaster. What I even love about the book is the art style. As someone who loves art and admires creative work, I think the comic book has wonderful art and the expressions are even amazing because you can tell that the character is feeling intense emotion and can understand the body language.
Reading that book was genuinely amazing and I wished I had a real hard copy of the comic book itself. Everything that comic book has was just a wonderful experience to read and I hope I can find comic books just like that one.

Having been reading a huge amount of Rosa and Barks recently, this just can't compete, both on a narrative and artistic level (though the later is what breaks it for me).

We have the typical 'rich guy wants to become richer and thus exploits the poor workers' narrative, which is already not something I’m drawn to. While it can lead to interesting stories when written correctly (i.e., tactfully) that wasn't the case here.

Furthermore, the action and fight scenes had a certain ‘edginess’ that jarred with how I approached the work (as an all-ages adventure) It's hard to explain but after reading volume after volume of Barks and Rosa’s Duck comics this past year, it just didn’t feel right.

Maybe it's on me for reading a comic that may very well be adult-oriented as an all-ages comic, but if it were meant to be read as a ‘gritty’ or ‘subversive’ take on the characters and the world they live in, it would have benefited from a better-written story (with more subtext and a less overt conflict).
Coming back to the art, I was very much reminded of the work of Winschluss though significantly toned-down. This is more criticism than praise, as said cartoonist’s work has never appealed that much to me (and I’ve yet to finish his Pinocchio).

So yes, I would say this one was not for me and has made me lose some interest in Loisel’s work (though I may still pick up his Peter Pan in the future, as I’ve heard good things about it).

Mickey Mouse a Horace Horsecollar jsou dva drsňáci z Upper West Side - chudinské čtvrti Mousetonu. Jsou třicáté roky a probíhá velká hospodářská krize.

Debemos llegar a pensar horizontalmente.

It's so mediocre-it's-okay?

The art is fun to look at and it channels the visual spirit of Gottfredson era Mickey comic strips (and also the old animations) very well; maybe Loisel is Gottfredson fanboy? If so, despite the story having its moments, it seems that Loisel likes different quite things about classic Mickey's adventures than I do: ...Mickey is not much of a detective here; he more like stumbles on adventures, and then some comic violence ensues (on a second thought, maybe the inspiration comes more from the animated shorts than Gottfredson's comic strips). Ultimately the "mystery" and how it's resolved is quite disappointing. Also the visit to Donald's boat feels totally irrelevant excuse to tell some practical jokes about boats and spend several strips telling how Mickey et co are so good friends and have such an awesome vacation?

But the art is fun to look and the story isn't that bad. Three stars.

Now, this is a different kind of Mickey Mouse story. Depression era. Mickey and Horace, out of work, struggle to support their families, while a rich developer seeks to tear the entire neighborhood down to install a golf course for the wealthy. There is a chemically-altered coffee that turns their male neighbors into zombies and complacent workers. The women become aware of the scheme and try to set things right. There are subtle puns throughout, and lots of violence as Mickey and his friends fight for what is theirs. The bad guys are thoroughly evil, so it's a good-guys-vs-bad-guys fight to the finish, with Mickey and Horace taking their licks as good as they give, so it's a lot of fun to read - the artwork is superb. I'm a big fan of Régis Loisel's works, and that convinced me to try this. It's a great take on the life of THE mouse, but not one uncle Walt would have been likely to approve.

Spore rozczarowanie.

This is told in the daily-comic-strip-serial style of Disney legend Floyd Gottfredson's beloved early Mickey adventures, but in Loisel's own unique style. The linework is gorgeous. The story is filled with adventure and humor, even if it doesn't always make sense. There are some great cameos from Donald Duck and others. Notably, Mickey's buddy is not Goofy as in most of his adventures, but rather Horace Horsecollar, with Goofy in a supporting role. The story is set in the Depression, and I suspect that some younger readers won't get all the jokes and references to that period. Nevertheless, this is an entertaining mystery adventure that should be a must-read for Mickey fans.

Modernisoitua sanomalehtisarjakuvaa Mikin alkuajoilta. Ei vaan toimi tarina, eikä väkivalta. Huumori on harvinaisen tylsää.

Disney comics are such a delight and I’ve been dying to get my feet wet in Fantagraphics growing backlog of them. I’ve bought a few of the Carl Barks Donald Duck volumes but I’m a bit of a hoarder so…I don’t know where they are. So I started with Mickey Mouse: Zombie Coffee! The art is gorgeous and man, the dialogue! Each character reads exactly as their voices have sounded for years! I could hear Pete in my head with each line! Bit weird to say a comic about struggling to find work during the Depression was fun right before we head into a recession but hey, good comics can make you say that.

Dads controlled by coffee and burgers?? May be scarier than you think.

Mickey and friends get out of town for a few days after a string of bad luck. Unfortunately, the bad luck only get worse when they come back to find their neighbors turned into coffee zombies! This one was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the art. I was surprised by some of the language they used in the series but I think we’re going to see more stuff like this once Mickey hits public domain.

Kaunista, yksityiskohtaista piirrostaidetta mutta minusta itse tarina kerrottu suorastaan huonosti. Löysää on paljon ja tarinakerronta pitkäveteistä. Piirrokset on 30-luvun Mikkien tyyliä ( esim.
