All three books in this series were far better than I expected and they were (for me) a solid five stars
I love British detective books that revolve around murder/serial murder plots with a DCI and his team that need to put the pieces together to solve the crimes. These three books hit the mark on all of these categories.
Each of the first three books in this series can be read by themselves, but so much intertwines between the books that you would be far better off to start with book 1.
To sum up, they were so good, that I have already downloaded books 4-6.
I read a lot of detective fiction and really enjoyed this collection. The characters were good, a good balance of humour and the language peppered with Scottish slang that was used to great effect without sounding like it was trying too hard. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
I wasn’t sure I would like these books as I like to read novels where I am familiar with the areas they are set in; but I needn’t have worried as the story lines and characters were perfectly formed. As I read each book in the book 1-3 collection, the characters are developed and I especially love DCI Logan’s dry sense of humour and his relationship with the other members of his team. Would thoroughly recommend.
Fun read. The dialogue is realistic and believable- and even funny in places. The characters “click” and I found myself liking them immensely.
I figured out the killer in all three before the big reveal - and since I’m no super-sleuth that means the stories aren’t too deep or complex. But they are engaging and fun. I’ll read the entire series.
I read one right after another in this 3 book series. They were page turners, though I had to keep my computer close by so I could look up some of the Scot slang. I think the books were/are gruesome, and I wish they weren't so ~ But, I really enjoy the characters and will probably continue with the series - - - after I read something a little bit more lighthearted.
I am so happy that I have discovered J. D. Kirk. I thoroughly enjoy his characters and the stories that he tells. While the language might be a wee bit strong for some. . .I find that it helps to deepen the character development. I am just worried that there may not be enough Jack Logan books to satisfy my cravings.
Love Jack Logan, doesn't suffer fools, but definitely someone to have on your side. He doesn't give up or spare himself till he's caught the criminals. Love the humor in the books 📚, really serious horrible crimes, but always makes me laugh. A winning combination.
I've reviewed another Jack Logan series (another writer, another character) book, thinkin' as I was that it was this Jack Logan book. Imagine my embarrassment. Hee-Haw. Too many wee Jacks blethering aboot nout. No' like I dinae enjoy them, though. Top piece o' shite.
Love how this author writes, he is a master at describing a scene, drawing you in until you are on the edge of your seat. There is no waste in these books of dragging things out or long useless descriptions, just brilliance from start to finish. CJ
A box set that you don't want to miss. The characters develop well over the series. Exciting and gripping. Well written with plenty of suspense. Actioned packed with gritty storylines. I raced through each book and look forward to reading book four.
I’m really glad I purchased this set of books. DCI Jack Logan is a good old fashioned policeman with some tough crimes to solve in Scotland. Fast paced, with great characters and a very easy read. I will definitely carry on with the rest of this set.
I like these books, there is humour in them plenty of twists and turns. When you read a series you get to involved with the characters. Next one please.
