Fangs & Fairy Dust by Melissa Monroe and Kyla Colby is a paranormal cozy mystery novella and the first book in the Priscilla Pratt Mystery series. Priscilla and Anna are talking as they wait on a savory bread to finish baking. Anna asks how Priscilla met her fairy godmother Avalon and the story goes back to Salem, Massachusetts in the 1600’s.

While a lot of vampire fiction leans towards the horror genre, this one is a cozy mystery with a vampire working to do what is right against injustices. There isn’t much time for character development in the story, but there are glimmers of depth.

The friendly and inviting writing style pulls readers into the story. I enjoyed the tale, laughed a couple of times, and smiled a lot. It’s too short to get the character or plot development that I would have liked.

Overall, this was an entertaining tale that sets the stage for future books in the series.

Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

Not every vampire is a villain.

Most of the vampire fiction I read is firmly rooted in the horror genre, so it was refreshing to read about a vampire who had a strict code of ethics and stuck to it. I didn’t always agree with the decisions Priscilla, the main character, made, but I knew she’d stick to her deeply-held beliefs about what was right and wrong. She was principled like that, and I admired her for it.

There wasn’t much character development in this tale at all. I understand that this was the beginning of a new series, but I still would have liked to see Priscilla change in some way as a result of her earliest experiences with her fairy godmother. She had plenty of opportunities to do so. Seeing her end up the same person as she was in the beginning dampened my enthusiasm to keep going with her adventures.

It was nice to see a mystery wrapped up so quickly. Priscilla wasted no time in trying to figure out what was really happening with it. No, I can’t go into details about what was going on there without giving away spoilers due to the short length of this story and what a small role it played in the plot, but I can say that I appreciated her determination to get to the truth no matter what.

I also would have liked to see more attention paid to the plot development. Once again, I wouldn’t expect a novella to be as well-developed as something full length, but there was so much more the author could have done with a vampire who remembered life in the 1600s and could tell people about it in the present day.

The punchy dialogue kept making me smile. There were some clever one liners thrown about, and they were pretty evenly distributed among the main characters. It’s nice when the spotlight can be shared among multiple characters like that. No, the dialogue didn’t match the way people actually spoke in 1665, but I assumed Priscilla translated all of the thees and thous into modern, conversational English for the sake of her twenty-first companion who was hearing about the beginning of her relationship with her fairy godmother for the first time.

Fangs & Fairy Dust was a quick, lighthearted read that I’d recommend to anyone who is in the mood for such a thing.

Fangs and Fairy Dust by Melissa Monroe and Kyla Colby is a prequel to the popular Vampire and Baking Cozy Mystery series. It is an origin story of sorts, mostly taking place just three years after Priscilla was made immortal by her sire Jacques Amaury and when she first met her fairy godmother, Avalon, who was not much more than a perpetual nuisance who had been by her side, off and on, since 1665. Avalon is an amusing character and never more so than when she is causing mischief, never on purpose, but she is not very good at what she does. It was in early Salem and her actions nearly got a man executed for witchcraft.

This is a very entertaining series and this short novella is as entertaining as the rest. Priscilla is a complicated but loveable vampire who has adjusted to life in the modern world. I never thought to like paranormal mysteries, but this is so endearing and Priscilla is such a terrific character, I was mesmerized. This prequel sets the stage for much that happens in later books and is a quick, simple must-read. I recommend it.

I was invited to read a free ARC of Fangs and Fairy Dust by the author. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own.

In this fun short we learn how Priscilla came to know her fairy godmother Ava. Ava wants to not be indentured to the Pratt family any longer and with Priscilla being the last one she hopes that her servitude will soon be over. Ava quickly learns that Priscilla is a Vampire and she won't be dying anytime soon. Frustrated with how things are looking Ava decides to cause a bit of mischief, the problem with that we soon learn is that she isn't very good at magic. We also get a look into the relationship that Priscilla shares with her maker Jacques and that he isn't the greatest guy. This was a fun read that filled in some answers about Priscilla's life and what lead her to where she is now.

Fangs and Fairy Dust is a novella prequel to the Priscilla Pratt Mystery Series.
I have read and LOVED every book in the series and it was really fun to get
the backstory.

Priscilla Pratt owns a bakery and doesn't have to hide her true identity. But things were not always that way. This prequel is set when Priscilla had just become a vampire . WE get to read the backstory of how she met Ava, her fairy godmother.

Ava has some hilarious scenes in this novella. I loved reading more about how Priscilla became a vampire and what it was like back then for her.

A great story. I LOVE this series and highly recommend checking out all of the books!

The prequel to this series about a vampire bakery owner. Throughout the series the author gives glimpses into Priscillas past lives and how she came to be an immortal. In this book we are taken back to the time when Priscilla is married to the man who gave her the gift or curse of immortality. The story is interesting and the small mystery set out for Priscillas initial foray into crime solving is well plotted.

There are goblins and fairies and the fae but none so mischievous or inept as Priscillas godmother who wants to be released from beings bound to the Pratt clan.

A nice quick look back into Priscilla's past giving readers a little taste of what her early days as a vampire and wife were like. I've read all the other books in the series too and thought this was a good little reference to when she'd talk about her sire. From the dawn of time, it looks like no matter what life threw at Priscilla, she was always basically a good person as she proved in this prequel.

Be Careful What You Wish For

This prequel to the paranormal mystery series starring a vampire is fairly standard. The characters aren't particularly well developed, but that could be remedied in future volumes. There is also no particular sense of place or time, even though part of the story takes place in the Seventeenth Century and part in the Twenty-First.

I didn’t realise it was just an exert from her book which was totally my fault but considering it was only the beginning few chapters I thought it was good. It’s definitely peaked my interest for sure. I do think there needs to be more/better proof reading or editing as there is some dodgy spelling going on, particularly in the beginning.

Priscilla and the murder!

A book that covers 3 centuries with one young female vampire. Now a bakery shop owner that does catering and specializes in cakes frosted with fondant. Hence the name Fangs and Fondant. What to do when your catering job turns up a dead body.

Boring

I didn't care for this story. It did show what a bleak place the 1600's and Salem were. How stupid people could be when someone claimed witchcraft with no real proof.

Hmmm

Just a prequel, but interesting. I do wonder what happened to Jacque or Jack? Nice wind up. Not going to run right out and get the whole series, but going on my TBR list.
