A Joyfully Jay review.

3.5 stars

Oops! Demon starts out with an accidental summoning via mustard, and that pretty much sets the tone for the story. It is light and fun and silly, and I read it all in one sitting. The story doesn’t take itself too seriously, but at the same time, it seems clear that McLeod is going for more than just laughs. The world building is creative and pretty expansive for a fairly short novel and Alex and Seth are developed enough as characters to carry the story nicely.

The relationship between the men is pretty much instalove, as they fall for each other and are happily contemplating life together almost immediately (basically within a day or so). I am fine with instalove stories in general, but I need to believe that the characters are actually in love, versus just lusting after one another. In this case, although it is clear that Seth and Alex are attracted to one another, as well as that each are nice guys, I never got enough of a sense of what made them connect and fall in love with one another. So I think the relationship needed some more development. There are also a lot of things happening here and small threads that don’t all tie up. The story relies a lot on magic and powers as a way to resolve things without really addressing them again.

Ok, so this was fine but pretty shallow. It felt completely unfinished because it could have been pretty epic if there were more story. It was pretty short and somewhat entertaining but ultimately unsatisfying. I will try the next one in the series to see if it's any better but if it's the same I doubt I will continue.

A Quirky and Hot Rom-Com

Offbeat, hilarious, original and happy comes mind when trying to describe this book and how it made me feel while reading it.

Seth , the red , naked, gorgeous with a big duck😏 and pointy little horns Demon; that quirky , friendly and sassy , 18 years old, college student Alex, summons while making a ham and real cheddar (the good one , not the one that comes between two plastic wrappings) cheese sandwich with mustard, doesn't know what to do or think about this intriguing and sexy human.

Alas, while he decides , might as well eat couple sandwiches and coffee , with enough sugar to make anyone a diabetic, as being Seething Destroyer of the Souls is hard , important work. ☺😁

And that folks , it's a glimpse and intro to the tone Oops! Demon is written. I snorted and even giggled all through this entertaining Rom-Com, my first by Anitra Lynn McLeod.

You want to relax and escape the routine, get this easy to read , humorous, uncomplicated , high heat, low to none drama and angst free tale.

I mean this was incredibly ridiculous but in a mostly fun, entertaining way. The first half is really amusing and I enjoyed the set up of Alex summoning Seth. Their back and forth is fun and light and really works. Alex's dad is terrible. I don't like him and by the end, there's an attempt at making him better, he's not redeemed for me but I don't hate him. The plot takes a turn for the worse about halfway through. It starts to get really convoluted and rambly. The best part of the latter half is Ed and his adorableness, but he was too small of a part. A lot of backstories and random tidbits are set up and go nowhere...maybe it continues in the next book, I don't know. I actually wonder if a future book is Alex's dad and a certain elf rival? I could be interested...maybe. I just wish the story had continued being light and humorous, without adding in kidnappings, portals to other planes of existence, it all seemed so unnecessary.

This book blends humor, fantasy, and romance in some fun and interesting ways. Summoning a demon while making a ham sandwich is actually the most normal thing that happens in this story, and that’s definitely saying something. There’s great chemistry between Seething Destroyer of the Soul (Seth) and Alex, and the outlines of some really interesting world building as the story progresses (the plot moves quickly and magical dilemmas and discoveries get resolved with, perhaps, a bit too much ease for those wanting a bit more detail). It’s a nice combination of humor, imagination, and a bit of heat, one that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Wow! I wasn't ready....this was really entertaining. Who would have thought a ham sandwich could summon a demon who happens to be more than just bound to you but a mate??? I loved the characters. Seth and Alex were truly a good match. Their banter and HOT chemistry kept this a page turner. Alex figuring out his past, present and his possible future was great and having Seth by his side is a bonus. Glad I was able to read this first book in the series and I can't wait to read more interesting and entertaining stories in this series... This book was a fun read with a very interesting idea behind it. It was okay to read but I did find it a bit short and not just in length but in detail as well. Too many things seem to be explained away as well that is what “magic or demons or anything else” is like. I feel like it was a very interesting idea but that I was missing a lot of it. It had a lot of bedroom activity which while well written may account for the lacking in other aspects of the story. I don’t know if aspects of this magical story are picked up in other books in this series but I looked at the cost of them and have no interest at that price . Alex thought that he was just an ordinary 18 year old virgin gay teen who has strange things happen around him all the time. One day when he was home for lunch between college classes, he was making a ham sandwich and thinking how lonely he is. All of a sudden there is a huge seven foot demon asking angrily why he was summoned. The Demon is Seething Destroyer of the Soul, a glutton demon. Alex decides to call him Seth and wants to keep him around without making a deal to sell his soul. Seth is fascinated by the purity of Alex. They make a non- soul selling deal to give Alex experience in kissing. It quickly gets out of hand. Alex's dad comes home and discovers Seth in Alex's closet. Alex learns that has dad has been keeping some big secrets like he is a sorcerer. When his dad tries to send Seth home, it fails because somehow Alex and Seth mated. Things just get more crazy from there.

I will always look at ham sandwiches differently! Summoning the demon Seething Destroyer of Soul, didn't phase Alex. He's used to unusual occurrences. He didn't seem to have much of a survival instince, just a curious mind. Lots going on. Great thing Alex is capable of taking life in his stride. Alex learns a lot about himself and life in this story. His responses are hysterical. Good story, great characters. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I loved Oops! Demon by Anitra Lynn McLeod. It's the first book in the Accidental Mates series. OMG, this book was fabulous. The author managed to get so much detail, world-building, and history of the characters into this book. I loved Seth, the demon, and Alex, the human, or so he thinks. I loved all of Alex's food puns, especially since Seth is a glutton demon. I also loved Alex's familiar, Ed. He was so adorable. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Alex accidentally summoned a demon he’s called the Seething Destroyer of the Soul but Alex calls him Seth. This is a fantastic m/m demon romance with drama, a bit of danger and 🔥 demon love and so much more to keep you entertained and turning the pages, there is so much more going on in this fantastic story I was hooked right from the start and I highly recommend this book it’s well worth the read.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a fun, lighthearted read. Alex is a college student and was just making a ham sandwich from himself when the random squiggle of mustard he drew on the bread ended up being a sigil and he summoned a demon. It was impossible not to smile as Seething Destroyer of the Soul has gone through this before and ends up sitting for lunch. Alex is very relaxed about the situation, but then weird stuff always seems to happen in his life. Seth (easier than the long title) is suspicious he was summoned by accident. This is the first book I've read by this author. I'd read more in this series. 4 stars.

I loved it! I like that Alex and Seth didn’t fight their bond or attraction to each other and that their personalities worked great together. All that Alex’s dad has kept from him was quite the shock. The book was short and sweet but I think it would be cool if we see these guys again in some other book in the series as I don’t know if they will be connected or not).

If your new to my reviews what you need to know is I'm terrible at star ratings I try to base my rating on the overall 'feeling' of a book as I don't think 5 stars means perfect since perfection doesn't exist. Likewise a book that seems good but has issues will always land around a 2 or 3 star rating depending on how its written. Also please note I have received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What pulled me into this book was the blurb accidentally summoning a demon with a sandwich? yea I needed to read that. Unfortunately it was better in theory than in practice. I found in the beginning it was like the author wanted to portray the main character in a different light but then rushed back to supposed to be 'innocent' it left me feeling like I had started reading one book and ended in a different others other book. The idea of summoning a demon by accident with food is a funny one and the humor aspect of the story is good everyone likes a bit of a giggle and some things.

However for me this book left me disappointed. It had such potential to be a well plotted out series with a slow burn of adventure and sex but for some reason the author rushed things along and the last handful of chapters felt lack-luster at best with an ending that had an epilogue to a story that to me seems not just unfinished but untold. Some big plot gaps reared there ugly heads as the story went along and I have to wonder why they were never pointed out by an editor. The line up for a flashback into the weird random other things that have happened was RIGHT THERE and it wasn't taken instead it was brushed over for a faster line to sex. Don't get me wrong I love a good spicy fumbling encounter but with so many plot holes I have to wonder if this maybe should have been marked as just 'erotica' or 'smut' or 'PWP' having it listed as paranormal romance and mm romance just seems like the wrong fit in its current state. Yes it has a plot and yes the plot has tons of potential but I felt like the more I read the more it seemed like the author was just trying to get to another sex scene.

SPOILERS AHEAD

If you are reading just for the sex then thats okay its not a terrible read it isn't poorly written it just leaves something to be desired but it isn't the worst thing I've ever read. The characters have a good connection and that does show well its just on the overall it really didn't work for me.

If you enjoy paranormal erotica this might be worth a go but if your looking for romance and plot I'd give this one a pass and pick-up something else.

Alex was hungry, got creative while making his sandwich and BANG summoned Seething Destroyer of the Soul. Now this is not your average soul-destroying demon, and Alex does not unleash him into the world to conquer and annihilate, 'cause it all was just a big mistake. Nevertheless, that mistake will bring knowledge and perhaps pain to Alex.

When you think this was meant to be a mere insta-lust story, it becomes more and more and more, and I loved it from beginning to end. Oops! Demon is a deliciously new take on an old story. It takes you to a known place, turning it back on its head to give you unexpected discoveries.

One of the things I liked the most about it was the love between the characters, not just the main characters, Alex and Seething Destroyer of the Soul (later renamed Seth 'cause that long thing is not the kind of mouthful you want in your mouth *wink wink*), but also father and son; you can see also their household dynamic and how it became so: there are secrets, there are mistakes, but above all their is love, and sometimes love makes you overprotective and difficult.

Alex is not a recluse; he goes to college and everything, but he’s aware he doesn’t quite fit in the world around him. Weird things happen to him all the time, and he’s gotten so used to that you might think he’s jaded. Nothing can be further from the truth, and the more you read the more you get why.

We go places. We learn some of the inner workings of the Accidental Mates Universe . We get just a hint of the stories of the secondary characters, but it’s enough to make you crave more because you see that gleam of intrigue and fun. We see bad guys that remain bad guys (and you want to punch them), but we also see bad guys that can be redeemed.

Some things leave you wondering why but not in a way that will take you away from the story; it's more like little missing details and/or the reasoning behind the mechanics of this universe. *shrugs* A normal thing in the first installment of a series— you shouldn't overexplain, and thankfully we don't get infodumped to death.

I don’t like play-by-play reviews, so I don’t do them either. I’m going to recommend you this book because it’s good, it’s not long, and you’re going to have a great time with it.

And the sexy parts will leave you fanning yourself. Trust me.

Cheers!

This was a very quirky and fun way to pass a couple of hours. When the story started out, I wasn't quite sure what I had gotten myself into, but as I continued to read, I was quickly drawn into this strange little book.

Alex is a seemingly accident prone freshman college. When he accidentally summons Seething Destroyer of Souls, better known as Seth, the big red horned demon, he doesn't seem concerned because strange things happen around him all the time.

Seth, who has left something important behind in the Shadowlands, impatiently demands that Alex either order him to do something or send him back. But Alex is stubborn, and he refuses to be pushed around. When Alex tries to leave for school, the demon demands that he must go along. So Alex decides to stay home. However, Alex's father shows up unexpectedly and somehow knows about Seth's presence.

Alex's father has been keeping secrets of his own. He demands that Alex send Seth home, but when he refuses, his father grounds Seth to the house. Eventually, Seth makes him an offer he doesn't want to refuse. Things get sexy, and then even more strange, feelings start to get involved.

When Alex gets whisked away, Seth is left with no choice but to summon another demon for help. However, Alex starts a journey of self-discovery when he inadvertently rescues his father. After finding out that he did not summon Seth in the usual manner, Alex and Seth decide to bond their lives together.

Eventually, Alex learns the story of his past, and why he is in danger. Seth vows to protect him, but when he puts his life in danger, Alex accidentally sends them to another plane of existence. There, he continues to learn and grow in his new found life, and also makes a new friend.

When they return home, he no longer has to live in fear or ignorance. He has the love of his father, his familiar, and his mate, which leads him to the happily ever after he never expected.

Happy reading!

So much about this book was off. Accidentally summoning a demon whilst making a sandwich sounds good in theory but runes are intricate and difficult to make. It’s only believable if he was actually trying a real spell and got it wrong. Who accidentally designs a perfect rune? On top of that, he’s all bossy and afraid to say one particular adult word yet he has zero problems with adult language and circling around saying the one specific word? His supposed innocence was a hard sell considering how he behaved. Yet, on the other hand, he also behaved very juvenile. His character development as a whole is a big murky grey area.

Then, since he doesn’t need the demon why is he forcing him to stay? To what end? He made a mistake and decides I’m just going to keep you because I can. And then his father treats him like he’s five. How does he suddenly know there’s someone in his room? Oh, wait he’s a warlock. Sigh. He’s a warlock, and his son is accidentally summoning demons. And the whole way this went down with him trying to storm into his college-age son’s room really read like his son was still an adolescent he could boss around.

I got the impression his son didn’t know he was a warlock. More importantly, if he did, again he shouldn’t have been surprised a demon showed up. He wasn’t scared by the ordeal but definitely seemed shocked in the mild sense. Still, he should’ve known better. The whole fight scene he had with his father was so many shades of awkward. The way he treated the Demon didn’t fit the idea of a virginal boy summoning something powerful and that powerful entity taking his innocence. He was way too bossy, entirely too confident, and a massively big dose of this is how I would expect someone twelve to act not a more reasonable college student even if he’s only eighteen.

And he also said weird things happen. It's also mentioned in the blurb. What are these things? Why aren't they explained if only for context? Again I get the impression he does know some things about demons so why is he acting all innocent like ‘oh so that symbol I drew on my bread…’ When you add up him not being scared plus his dad being strong enough to lock a demon in his house. He even tried to exorcise it and force his son away from it. Just so much going on here, but back to the point, when you add it all up it becomes less, and less likely this summoning was an accident.

This could’ve been a good read but just the first few chapters had me all sorts of confused. It didn’t fit the idea, of the comedic and adult turns accidentally summoning someone with the experience to teach you would entail. I honestly could not get into this and barely made it halfway.

Ultimately this story just didn’t make sense or live up to what I came into it expecting.

Okay, not going to lie. When I saw the cover of this book, I was a little… hesitant. However, I took the chance and it definitely did not disappoint.

Alex Marshal is 18 years old, a college student, and lives at home with his father. Odd things have always happened to him so when one day, he accidentally summons a demon, he isn’t even that surprised. What is surprising, however, is how hot the Seething Destroyer of the Soul is, and how charming (kind of), and how… sweet? Attraction immediately blooms between the two and despite doing his best to keep the giant, red male hidden from his father, the secret is soon out and then they all have much bigger problems to deal with.

So this was hella cute. Funny, sweet, and with surprisingly steamy scenes, I definitely had fun reading this. I thought Alex was adorable and I loved the banter between him and Seth. They worked well as a couple, but I do wish there was a little more to the whole thing. A lot happens in the second half of this very short book (not even 80 pages in my copy) so if there were a few more chapters, some of the bigger ideas could have been more fleshed out and it would’ve given the book a little more depth with the plot. Other than that, I wish I got to know a little more about Alex’s family. There are just so many questions about his parents and just… everything. Still, immensely entertaining and would be very interested to read the other books in this series.

Thank you Voracious Readers and Anitra McLeod for my copy! I received an ARC of this book in an exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:
A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series
from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year),
it's like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok)
It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the
whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

A really quirky, light-hearted demon/human romance & I enjoyed reading it. The plot is entertaining with some unusual events with good scene descriptions & world building. The two main characters (Alex & Seth) are likable with some emotional vulnerability although I will admit that I was not too impressed with Alex’s father (Gerald, who happens to be a sorcerer) & his attitude but he does redeem himself.
There is: a rather shy innocent nerd & college student (Alex) makes himself a ham sandwich & accidentally summons a demon (Seething Destroyer of the Soul aka Seth) naturally Alex is slightly stunned but he promptly offers Seth the ham sandwich, demons, hybrids, elves, a dragon, some twists, drama, humor, secrets, mystery, adventure, a little violence, alternative worlds, verbal disagreements, sarcasm, ultimatums, devious plans, confrontations, attempted manipulations, abduction, defiance, discovery, truth, confrontations, defiance, amazing discoveries, a protective glamor, love, steamy scenes, contentment & a wonderful happy ending.

Hmmm. Not sure what I’m feeling right now. I enjoyed the book, but it didn’t quite reach “love” level.

The reader jumps right into the story. No build up or anything. Also, the story seemed to jump from “scene” to “scene” which caused me to be confused at times. Like many of the other reviews, the banter was fun and entertaining. I did enjoy the different POV very much. It added value to the story.

Alex and Seth are great characters. Both of likeable and a little vulnerable. Together they are extremely sweet. Alex’s dad is a dick. Yes, he was in a tight spot, but that doesn’t excuse how he treated Alex.

Overall, an outrageous story that shouldn’t be taken seriously. If you are looking for a sweet and funny story that has a ridiculous plot, then you found the right book. I would be interested in reading the other books in the series.

Well, we dive straight into the story on this one with an accidental summoning of a demon into Alex's kitchen as he's making a sandwich. The story is so random but really funny with a lot of banter between Alex and Seething Destroyer of the Soul, or Seth as he becomes known. Also a secret is discovered about Alex's father but I'm unsure as to whether Alex had any knowledge of that or the supernatural as he doesn't really react to the demon appearing in his kitchen or finding out about his father.
Initially, there isn't any romance or feelings though there is attraction between the MC's but it does grow and become more apparent in the second half of the book.
It's a fun and enjoyable story to read with something different to anything that I've read before. I'd recommend giving it a read for those who love romance, the paranormal and comedy.

Sometimes you just want a little novella to perk you up midweek. The synopsis was what caught my attention to read this story and I am so glad I did! It was humourous, low angst but full of mystery and the author has the ability to provide an action packed narrative as well as some character development within 35K words. I was enthralled and could not put it down. Alex and Seth are adorable. I would have loved to have had a better understanding on some of the backstory of demons and how they come into existence. That was probably the only thing missing for me due to some feeling from Seth. But I was so distracted by Demon mating rituals 👀

And then somehow... Plot twists?! Amaze balls.

What a funny concept of summoning a demon by making a ham sandwich. Who would have thought of such a thing?
Alex a hungry young man making a sandwich, then up pops a demon. But Alex doesn't freak, no he feeds the demon, who he calls Seth.
The story takes off from there. Fun boys a good bit of world building. Good sex and romance. Some little bits were a bit far fetched and hard to swallow. But this is fiction, so swallow you will.
I love Anitra Lynn McLeod's books. This book is cute and fun.
Not up to my favorite Twin Pine Grizzlies series. But I did enjoy it and will read again. Hoping for more dragons in the future.
Thanks to Anitra and Don't buy my Love for this cute read.

3.5* almost 4*.

This is the first in this series, about accidental mates, it’s a fluffy, sweet, feel good and doesn’t take itself seriously story.

Alex keeps having things happen to him, this time he has summoned a very sexy Demon with a ham sandwich, Seth is a Demon who once summoned and finds himself intrigued by the feisty human and doesn’t want to leave.

The characters in the book are good, they could’ve been a bit more depth to the relationship between staff and Alex, the instant attraction was there and they were in love in the next breath, I would have liked a bit more in regards to what happened with his dad but I can forgive that as the story was such fun. Perfect to read in one sitting, Looking forward to finding out if their is more to the rest of the series.

Accidental Magic

Beware what you think of while making your next sandwich or you could summon a seven foot, red skinned, two horned demon packing enough deliciousness in his own "lunch box" to feed an army, or one very hungry and sMMexually inquisitive eighteen year old college freshman.

Cute, quirky, a bit dirty and filled with explicit sMMexy times.
Lots of banter, food analogies and euphemisms that had me giggling out loud, scratching my head, and even rolling my eyes at times.

Sometimes it's good to escape into the land of adult silly fun and this is definitely that. A super quick read that leaves you with a strong craving for the next book!

This was a unique and really funny beginning to a series that I'm definitely going to dive into. I enjoyed the premise quite a lot and the demon was really easy to come to love. He had a lot of passion and compassion for Alex that went a lot way to evening out the more forceful and secretive parts of him. Alex was interesting in that he stood up for himself and used his brain more than his reactions to the sexy demon. It was his father that bothered me. Yes, I can understand his blustering and the reasoning behind his actions, I just felt like there could have been a bit more of an apology on his end for the secrets and the way he treated Alex. Overall, I thought this was a very humorous start and I'm definitely coming back for more. Who knew mustard could change your life?
