Decoded Pride Issue #1

Rate this book
Decoded Pride is an independently produced anthology of speculative queer fiction by queer creators, edited by Sara Century and S.E. Fleenor.

All thirty of these short stories and comics, which include science fiction, fantasy, and horror, have been collected in this special version for eBooks, which features powerful cover art from comic creator Jeffrey Brown and original illustrations by Sara Century. Authors include Priya Sridhar, Stephanie Burt, Rachel Gold, Emmalia Harrington, Brandon Ortega, Jalexa Schell-McCall, Maria Dong, and many more.

From a supernatural (feminist) shark to fairies who serve extremely strong drinks to dragons with dental bills, Decoded contains stories and comics that will make you think, stories that will make you laugh, and stories that will probably make you shed a few tears. Our authors explore the broadest reaches of queerness to tell the stories that matter to queer folks.

Decoded was created to focus on queer content rather than tokenizing it or allowing others to default to hiring non-queer people to tell our stories. Pride has been indecipherable from its corporate agenda for many people’s entire lifetimes. For us, creating spaces that are independently run and all our own is necessary to the survival of our communities.

Our creators write and draw stories with queer themes for queer audiences and our allies. From the cover art to the editorial team, every single creator who contributed to this project is queer, so support independent queer art and storytelling today!

Special Editor's Note: This volume also includes a promo code for a free version of the professionally formatted PDF, so that you can enjoy these stories in all their full-color glory.

I had the luck of getting my hands on a contributor copy of this volume, and I have to say--it's such an amazing and special thing to read thirty stories and comics of queer speculative fiction by queer creators. Each one unique, with a number of different genres and styles represented, from sci fi to horror to fantasy--even comics, which were my partner's favorite--he just LOVED Andy the Autistic Anchovy.

I really found this as one of those books to just savor. I have greatly enjoyed curling up with my kindle and a cup of tea in a big blankie and slowly working my way through each one. I also love the full-color PDF that you get the code for; the illustrations are gorgeous in both editions but the PDF is so freaking colorful. <3

"even gay superheroes are self-important assholes" Being queer means having to transcend normative life. It means continually creating a world for ourselves where we have a place that makes sense. Queer worlds are works of fantasy, science fiction, magic, and superheroes. We are superheroes. We are all wizards.

What a gift to the real world the Decoded Anthology is. It is a rare opportunity to glimpse thirty unique and queer worlds that reflect our unique magic and powers. I'm so thrilled to have received a story a day for this year's Pride month. The compilation of those with the art is such a treat! Well done! Such good stories. What an amazing concept and accomplishment to bring together so much queer talent and visions. Thank you.

Wow! This collection will grab you! I enjoyed the varied lengths and topics of the pieces, while each still feeling toothsome. Queer, sci/fi, horror, fantasy, weird, this is a great collection to tear through, or take it a bite at a time. Gripping, I often wanted a minute to process the queer literary genius I had just found myself digesting. You usually have to go through books and books to get this much good content, and here it is, all in one place, ready to leave its readers riveted. This is the gem in the mix-pack. This is the one you keep forever and tell people about. Loved it!

I started out just reading one story a day. That…didn’t last long. Like with any anthology, some stories are more to my tastes than others, but I enjoyed the heck out of this collection.
