This book gives an insight of, not just how Kingdomcity came about and multiplied, but what the author ultimately aspired towards a heart-transforming discipleship. Ps. Mark Varughese and his team were very much a transformational mover of sorts - establishing churches globally that promotes 'intimacy with God and influence with man'. Kingdomcity was born from one man's obedience, and his obedience birthed from his hunger for God. The entire book is not about taking calculated risk to prosper in self-righteous pursuit, but exercising faith-filled risks that correspond to our God-given purpose. Unless and until we hear God's voice, we are not ready, we cannot fire, and the aim is flimsy.
Some quotables to share:
"Following God has less to do with where we are going and more to do with Who we are following. Jesus never said, Here's the map. He said, I am the Way"
"My spiritual hunger draws me to God, but my surrendered brokenness draws God to me."
"While faith is expressed through declaration, it's received through hearing. [...] 'Lord if it's you. tell me to come.' Peter wasn't looking for a word, he was listening for a voice. When God's voice is heard, faith rises, no matter how daunting the task."
"When God gave you a gift, He had others on His mind."
"I am charged with the privilege of good stewardship, knowing that every risk I don't take potentially robs someone else."
"We certainly have a desire to hear God clearly and to not be presumptuous; but sometimes, the only way to find out is to push past the fear of man and trust the God who guides you. Even if we miss Him, God will find us."
"The will of God isn't a tightrope that you have to nervously tiptoe on fearing the worst if you make on wrong turn. It's a matter of childlike faith that simply says, I trust You, God, to open the right doors and close the wrong ones. And if I'm supposed to push hard on a door that seems closed by the enemy, help me to recognise that and then give me the strength."
"There is an understandable fear of drowning if you step out of the boat, but there are dreams drowning in the boat, too, because of the fear of stepping out"
"The 'together' equation has an exponential impact. One puts a thousand to flight; two put ten thousand to flight (Deut 32:30). Reconcile the math and then surrender to that truth."
"Peace is a wonderful thing. It's more than comfort in a storm - it's a compass in the wilderness."
"If 'Ready; is God's instruction, and 'Fire!' is our obedience. [...] In the same way that it takes two hands to clap, the 'Yes' is God's part and the 'Amen' is ours. Because the enemy cannot stop God's 'Yes', he tries to short-circuit the promise by hindering our 'Amen'. "
"Whether we see every light ahead as red or green is simply a default setting. It's an outlook, an advance decision, a determination of how you are going to move ahead in life. Some people weigh every decision as if the light is always red, and so they need a series of green lights before they'll proceed. [...] There's no point getting critical about people like this; just understand that's their default setting. This principle has helped me to understand people better."
"When God says 'Ready', you 'Fire', and let His unfailing hand guide the moving bullet. That's the best 'Aim'."
"Our journey it's not about a giant leap; it's a series of faithful, doable next steps."
