When a famous dressage horse goes missing in the middle of the night, and the bodies of an unknown man and local stable boy are found dead outside the horse's empty stall, the blame is immediately pinned on a gorgeous amiable stallion covered in the victims' blood. Eddy calls upon Irene and Joe's assistance as the stallion's handler swears by his, and his horse's, innocence. The trio take a trip to the country to navigate the intricate bond between horses and their trainers and discover layers of betrayal and secrecy coating this glamorous sport.
These characters are growing on me, especially as Irene Is becoming more sensitive, at least to Joe. Joe’s character opens up about his weaknesses, and demonstrates some of his strengths. And so their partnership and friendship deepens. The mystery, reminiscent of a famous one in the Canon, is interesting and except the untenable initial premise for the crime, but that’s a minor quibble. Thanks to MX publishing for the audio version which is very well narrated once again by Jacqueline de Boer.
So good! Holmes and Watson continue to develop as characters, and as is their relationship. I am so impressed with the way these stories weave elements of the original stories and characters into new tales. I can't express how much I like these and hope more will be available on Audible soon. Jacqueline de Boer does a perfect job narrating.
When Irene Homes receives a call from Eddy Lestrade concerning the death of an unknown man and missing horses, she has her friend John Watson a vet; accompany her to investigate the crime.
