Have yourself a very Merry Witchmas in Holiday Haven, where the magic and mystery of Christmas is snow joke!

After five years of running the Holiday Haven Inn, Carolyn Highcrest thinks she can handle anything. She and her best friend Mercy are determined to make their festive weekend celebrations the best they can possibly be, despite being surrounded by scheming rivals, melodramatic theatre group members and overenthusiastic carollers.

What Carol didn't anticipate was a visit from her eccentric family, whose knack for trouble and attachment to their cringeworthy custom-made hats threaten to derail her focus. To make things worse, a magical wishing box intended for the weekend's event disappears, and soon after, a string of inexplicable pranks hits the inn, seemingly a result of the box's powerful magic.

Carol is inclined to blame both the theft and the pranks on her long-term business rival, Janice, but all too soon, events are spiralling out of control. Can Carol fix the trouble before the holiday cheer is ruined?

Winter Witches of Holiday Haven, Book 4

I Picked Up This Book Because: #WinterGames TBR

Media Type: Audiobook

Stars: 4
Narrator(s): Tanya Eby

The Characters:

Carolyn “Carol” Highcrest
Mercy
Mr and Mrs Highcrest, Carol’s sister, various other townspeople

The Story:

Unfortunately, my least favorite of the series. I didn’t understand the tense relationship with the parents and the miscommunication with literally everyone else was annoying. I usually find this series charming but not so much this time.

"It was ok", 2 stars seemed a bit harsh though, so going with 3 instead
Apart from whole lot of drama there wasn't much of a story there. Plenty of plot holes and things that simply didn't make sense.
It could've used a bit of humor and romance.
Also, for being part of a shared world it felt wholly disconnected, with only the town name in common. No mention of any of the places or people that the other books have in common, like the Candy Cane Cafe, the Corner Bookstore, Whet Your Wassail, the Back Room and of course the Yule Ball. Not even the Clauses themselves.

Book 4. This book is Christmas Paranormal Cozie series are fun to read. There are different Authors in this series different characters but the same place Holiday Haven. This one is about Carol and Mercy they are both from England but decided to move somewhere abouts in North Pole Holiday Haven. They are best friends that run Holiday Haven Inn. There is a rival Janice that always wants the completion. She runs an Inn too. Carol parents and sister Bella show up unannounced and Carol and Mercy were putting an event on Five Years Of Festive Cheer. For their 5th year owning the Inn. Carol was wondering why her sis Bella did not tell their parents not to come. Carol was trying to make them leave. And what better way than the Wishing box that Mercy bought. But instead it went missing. Then all kinds of spells started in the Inn. So they both blamed Janice because they believed she stole the Wishing Box. I recommend these books. They are cool. With magic talking animals, Santa clause, walking snowmen, elves and witches and a whole lot of other different creatures and characters that will take you back in time to magical places

This is my first book by Elle Adams and it will not be my last. Carol and Marcy own an Inn in Holiday Haven where they are celebrating their 5 year anniversary. They are planning an event to celebrate which includes carolers, a play and yummy treats. Marcy wanted to add an extra special treat for everyone that includes a wishing box, where people can write down a wish and place it in the box and their dream will come true. Before they can test it out, Carol's family shows up on a surprise visit and all things start to go to havoc. The wishing box goes missing, disaster ensues qnd their event might have to be canceled. I loved the characters in this book and the mystery of the story, Elle Adams had me guessing the whole time as to who was the cause of all the chaos and I kept thinking it was a particular character and I was proven wrong each time. I was surprised by the actual culprit and enjoyed the different theories of who did what, which made for fun reading. I hope the author will bring us more of these characters in the future, this book brings delight and lightness which is much needed right now.

Carol and Mercy are owners of the Holiday Haven Inn. They have a weekend celebration planned which includes carolers, a festive food menu, a theatre production, and use of a wishing box.

Rival Janice also owns an inn and frequently "borrows" Carol & Mercy's ideas. So when the wishing box goes missing and creative disasters appear at every turn to ruin the weekend festivities, who else could it be BUT Janice? Right?

Another magical Christmas cozy. I absolutely LOVE Holiday Haven and all the Christmassy chaos these books bring. The mysteries are delightful and the magical mishaps are engaging and fun. Definitely recommend for a quick and enjoyable read.

A cute and fun cozy set at a North Pole full of winter magic. Carol and Mercy are friends running an inn with a big holiday event planned. The main surprise is a magical wish box that unfortunately goes missing when Carol's quirky hat loving parents and slightly sour sister arrive unexpectedly. From that point, the inn is full of fun pranks such as an indoor snowstorm and the choir turning into frogs. Carol needs to sort out all the immediate problems and determine if her rival is sabotaging the inn.

Very light and quick Christmas story. I always enjoy the holiday details of Holiday Haven. The perfect fun read when needed.

Pros:

It was nice having this feel like it was more about the troubles of running a business and being part of a family instead of just finding the right guy.

Cons:

The story is constantly moving and almost feels like finding your way through an escape room. This isn’t a bad thing and it is fun, this isn’t bad for everyone but I do enjoy a bit more character based usually.

This was the first book in the series I didn't like. Part of it was the narrator because she made the dialogue sound really precious and artificial, but most of it was the writing. The main character's dialogue felt very repetitive, and I have zero patience for cartoonishly frivolous, incompetent, and negligent parents. Also, the idea of a wishing box is so fraught for fiction. Why can't everyone just buy one and get whatever they want?

In my opinion Winter Wishes was way different than the first 3 books of Winter Witches of Holiday Haven. Was I entertained yes but I found myself not caring what happened. I wanted more suspense and mystery. I figured out immediately who was behind all the shenanigans going on. I really didn't like how Carolyn treated her family. I get being embarrassed by your family, but all her family wanted was to be close to her. I found her family endearing and wanted her to see they loved her. By the end she did redeem herself a little. I read on Kindle Unlimited.

Good story. Didn't like how the MC kept blaming her rival for everything with almost no proof. I did find the "pranks" amusing. The MC's parents were also amusing, as much as the MC didn't get along with them so well. The book had its high points, but I just felt like there was something lacking.

I did enjoy this book but got a bit fed up with the main character accusing one of the other characters all the time with no proof or to be honest a good reason. I also wasn't that keen on the way she treated her family, always trying to get rid one them, When in my eyes they were just having fun. This was less a mystery than the main character rolling with all the obstacles put in her way of running a Christmas show but with magic involved they were very unexpected and funny, hence the reason I enjoyed it. This is the fourth book in this series which is written by different authors and the setting with the Christmas theme is the only constant, so you can read them in any order. It wasn't my favourite but it won't stop me from jumping into the next adventure.
With two hotels in Holiday Haven, Carolyn has to pull out all the stops to make hers exciting and entertaining. Which is why she decided to hire the local theatre group to put on a show. But the moment her parents and sister turn up for an unexpected visit things start to go wrong. Is there a connection? Or is it the other hotel owner? Carolyn battles with costume mix ups, lost deliveries and even snow all to make sure the show will go on. As the mishaps start to turn dangerous she starts to wonder if wishing for a miracle is the right way to go. Can she find the culprit?

Rather unlikeable characters

Maybe if Carol and Mercy had been more likeable it would have been easier to feel sorry for them but Mercy is barely two dimensional and Carol seems to have a huge chip on her shoulder, is horrible to her family and very quick to judgement.

Caroline and Mercy are running a special weekend at their barely described hotel, with a play, carol singers, fancy (lacking description again) menu when Carols parents and sister turn up to surprise visit her. The parents make hats, crazy hats, for a living and like wearing them; by all accounts they fit it at HH just fine in Christmas hats. Bella the sister is just miserable, hates snow, hates Christmas, hates the world.

Trouble starts when the wishing box disappears and strange things start happening. From it snowing indoors to bunny costumes rather than reindeer to tinsel snakes. Carol repeatedly blames a rival hotelier as the rehearsals become more chaotic and disorganised.

Most of the people involved, barring good old mum and dad, are equally unpleasant so they kind of deserve each other. Basically someone has taken the wishing box and is using it for personal gains and eventually it's obvious because no one really investigates they just point the blame on someone else.

entertaining holiday themed supernatural cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining holiday themed supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun storyline. Multiple authors have written each book in the series. Each book is based basically at the north pole and a little towns surrounding it. Some of them have Santa Claus Mrs. clause the elves as well as witches wizards and other supernatural beings. As it is a supernatural town only supernatural is live there. Each book has a different character in the same basic storyline just at different times in areas of the towns. Many of the characters overlap and interact with different characters from the other books as well as different places businesses scenes etc. Each one is individually written by a different author and each one while a different story is part of the overall holiday life of the north pole and it’s surrounding towns. Read on and be entertained. Most of the mysteries are general crime related not any violent murders are anything like that. At least not yet. Check them out.

Wish Wording Woes

Mayhem abounds at The Holiday Haven Inn. When Carolyn & Mercy plan a weekend extravaganza with a theatre group & choir, Mercy orders a wishing box as a special addition. Tricky to handle, the box will fulfil written wishes placed in it. When the box disappears & disasters hitches the inn hard they suspect rival inn owner Janice of pulling pranks. Who else would want them to fail? The unexpected arrival of Carolyn's perpetually perky parents, novelty hat makers extrodinaire, & scowly sister Bella just raises the level of stress & mayhem. Will the event be cancelled? Who took
the darn box?
I enjoyed this book so much. As part of The Winter Witches of Holiday Haven, written by different authors set in the same world, these authors have given all their readers a truly magical holiday gift.

Carolyn Highcrest and her best friend Mercy are celebrating the 5th year of business in their inn.
Carolyn's family unexpectedly shows up for a holiday, which is not good timing for Carolyn as she is busy with plans for a play to be put on for the village residences.
The ladies also have a wish box to help put people in the mood for the holiday. But when the box goes missing everything falls apart at the same time.
Carolyn and Mercy have to deal with rogue spells, a primadonna actor, and a nosy competitor who they are not certain is causing all the mayhem.

Pro's:
Developed characters and a nice plot.
Con's:
It felt like there were too many things going wrong at the same time. And when Mercy approached Carolyn with news that there was a "Strange" family in the foyer, there was no way she wouldn't have known who they were.

Carolyn has been running the Holiday Haven Inn with her best friend, Mercy, for five years and believes that she can handle anything. But this year, a magical wishing box disappears and her eccentric family comes for a visit. With everything that's going on, Carolyn doesn't dare ask what else can go wrong.

This was the fourth book in a five book series where each book is written by a different author. Elle Adams is a favorite author and this book is a wonderful example of why. This story is a well-written, quick, fun read that pulled me in from the beginning and kept me hooked until the end. I'm really enjoying this series and this book was a great addition. I highly recommend both book and series.

High hopes, shattered.

💖 Rating: ⭐ / DNF
📚 Genre: Cozy mystery, paranormal

💕 Positives:
* None

🚫 Negatives:
* No descriptions at all. Not a clue on what the inn looks like and I only know that the main character is a blonde. I don't even know what her magic type is.

* The main character hates her family but they seem rather nice. No backstory on that.

⚡Content Warning: None

🌟 Overall, this book started a reading slump for me. There was a story but no descriptions. I'm starting to wonder if AI wrote this.

The main character is annoying. She's pretty mean to her parents and there isn't any backstory as to why. She seems like a petulant child at times.

DNF at 45%.

Be careful what you wish for

The Holiday Haven Inn is celebrating its 5 year anniversary. The proud owners, Carol and Mercy, have decided to host a play, singers, and a wishing box for people to enjoy. Only things go wrong when the wishing box goes missing. On top of all of this, Carol's family decides to visit. So much is going on and things become chaotic. I just kept wanting to jump ahead to find out how it all ended. I am glad that I read all the way to the end and did not spoil the ending for myself. Great read.

Endearing

Carol and Mercy just want to celebrate the five-year anniversary of their inn. Unfortunately, 2020 is even problematic in Holiday Haven! Carol's troublesome family arrives with no notice, and the disasters continue to mount. The author has crafted a very imaginative tale that may or may not center on an unusual magical item, and the seemingly obvious mystery yields a rather intricate solution. This series continues to charm with its wonderful world-building and unabashed delight in the Christmas season!

You can't choose your family

The mystery was interesting and not what I expected. I jumped to a few conclusions and was glad I was wrong about one of them. Carol needs to cut her family some slack. Yes, her parents march to their own tune, but they're good people and they helped her a lot in her time of need. I thought the inn's mishaps may be tied to her need to see past her issues with her family, but that was not the case. At least not in the way I was thinking.

I felt bad for Janice and the accusations thrown her way. And thank God for Charlie.

A joy to read

In line with the Winter Witches series, this cosy doesn't have a murder at its core, but a series a mysterious events. Adams focus on her own characters so much that Holiday Haven isn't really visible through the pages, neither are the main figures of the town. That said, this is an absolute gem, the plot is great, the characters lovable, or upsetting depending on which one, and the writing is a delight.

This book was very good, It showed what it means to have to deal with unexpected visitors and missing objects. While trying to get ready for a big event.
This book is an excellent book in my opinion because it shows that no matter what that family and love will always be there for you. There is nothing greater than love. I also believe this book showed that no matter how much your family aggravates you when you need help they are there for you.

Great book

I thoroughly enjoyed this 4th book in the series. I really enjoyed the main 2 characters in the book--Mercy and Carol. They complimentated each other and balanced out their strengths and weakness. The supporting members of sister Bella and mom and dad was superb additions to the book. I found this paranormal mystery to be a thoroughly enchanting story that was a joy to read.

Holiday Hats And Wonky Wishes?

I thought this book was pretty funny! When Carol’s parents come to visit her at her Inn for Christmas she gets all flustered from her funny family. Although all works out in the end, laughter ensues when a wishing box goes missing. Can She keep things on track with strange happenings around them? Or will everything gets canceled and tempers flair?
Enjoyed this quirky book and can’t wait for the next one.
