I don’t know if you’ve ever shared your home with a fitness fanatic? Well, I have, and I must say it is a most disturbing experience. Both my humans are fitness nuts, you see, and like nothing more than to contort themselves into strange positions, then jump up and down while sweating profusely. Things didn’t improve when fitness celebrity Randy Hancock came to stay with us. He told us he’d recently been injected with a slow-acting toxin and only had four more days to live. So he asked Odelia to save him. It was the beginning of a troubling time, more so because he’d brought along his dog Little Randy.
Meanwhile Brutus had struck up an unlikely friendship with a turtle, and Gran an even unlikelier one with Wilbur Vickery, going so far as to actually start dating the man. Soon rumors of an upcoming wedding were doing the rounds, prompting Dooley to fear he’d have to move out along with Gran to go and live with her new husband and Wilbur’s cat Kingman. And then of course there was The Affair: Marge being caught in the arms of Randy, creating a second rumor mill that predicted divorce. It was all cause for great concern, and one of my most perspiratory mysteries yet.
Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).
When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.
He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.
I just love these books. Each one is completely different and doesn’t carry into the next. It’s great how the cats, dogs, humans, turtles and lots of other creatures get along so well.
Cats and Dogs all have their own personalities. Some are ultra curious, some ultra friendly, some are not that smart and some are really smart!! Dooley is not all that smart and had to be told over and over again about almost everything--he tended to be obsessive and could not get it out of his head that Marge was not going to marry and move both him and her out!!
Then there is Brutus--super friendly-he actually makes friends with a turtle and attempts to help this turtle's friends out of the pond. He gets in a bit of trouble. Luckily his friends help him out.
Little Randy (not so little actually) gets along with all the cats--Hw has no idea his human is playing dirty tricks!!
This is a light read which I am sure you will enjoy--
Gosh, it doesn't seem like this is the 29th book already. It was so great to see some old characters back for this story. It was also great to see the animals all having more active roles in this story, including new animals. Pinkie is the most unique new character and it will be interesting to see if she returns in a later book.. Nic Saint does a great job of moving the characters around and changing up the story lines. As always, I want to remind people who love series, The Mysteries of Max is a great series to read from book 1 and follow on through as the characters stories develop.
Max and friends freak out thinking that Grandma Muffin is going to marry Wilbur. Odelia has a houseguest none other than the famous fitness instructor Randy Hancock. He claims to be dying and shows them a video of him being injected with a supposed poison. He has come to Odelia to find his attackers. Meanwhile Brutus has befriended Pinkie a tiny turtle. Some other criminal types show up, Jerry and Johnny. Enjoy the book.
Ahh...love is in the air in Hampton Cove! Or is it?? The newest episode of Max is full of character and characters: meet Randy, who needs a detective to learn who poisoned him while he was sleeping. Lil Ran, an Irish setter belonging to Randy. Pinkie, escaped turtle who seeks help from Brutus. It seems Gran is dating Wilber, Marge is dating Randy, Tex isn't sure who he's dating, and so it goes!! Funny and thought provoking, I really enjoyed this book!
This had a really great story line. I totally enjoyed this Max mystery! It kept me turning page after page of was so mesmerizing. I so love this series!!! Max and his gang are so lovable and even through all the bumbling and stumbling always manage to solve the mystery. They're always on the case!!!!
Who are the better singers, cats or dogs or humans??? I really don’t know. But when they all work together great things happen. Just ask Pinkie!!! The bottom line is that you really can’t trust anyone. I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
I loved the addition of the turtles and lil Ran. Very imaginative story lines is why I keep reading "the mysteries of Max" the blorange cat. Keep them coming and for sure I will keep on reading them.
This story is about a fitness celebrity who was poisoned and everyone’s efforts to solve it. Including Max, the cats and even dogs! Lots of excitement- Gran getting married and Marge’s affair! A fun read! Read it!
I enjoyed reading this book. It was interesting to read from an animal's story telling. I'm looking forward to reading more books written by Nick Saint.
In the further adventures of Max, an aging fitness guru shows up at Odelia's door looking for a place to stay. He says he has been poisoned and will be dead in five days unless he can get the antidote. And his poisoner is demanding $10 million in exchange for the antidote.
He wants Odelia to find out who poisoned him and get the antidote before his time is up. So the crime-solving cats are put on the job along with the humans to solve the mystery.
