Where do I even begin!
This book is a complete feeling of love friendship, heartbreak and kisses that sweep you right off your feet. ❤️❤️
After I read Joy's summer love playlist, I loved all the characters so much. So this companion book is like a chocolate frosting to the delicious brownie. It was so much fun knowing the reactions of all the side characters to the main JSLP story.
Honestly, it was so real to see the perfect Jinn in all his messed up internal feelings. He looks so composed in JSLP but in B-sides he has some complicated internal dilemma too. I loved reading his POV.
The way Lena's and Carson's character developed is really mind blowing.
The bonus chapters in B-sides were just mesmerizing! If you are looking for perfection, the bonus chapters is where you will land. Every word gave warm tingles in my heart.
Lena and Carson were so good together. I wanted to read more about them.
The last chapter was so perfect. I mean how many times can a book steal your heart??
JSLP and B-sides are the books that makes me so happy everytime I read them.
Perfectly sketched characters, put in weird situations and you have a perfect story.
The trick to enjoy both the stories to the fullest is with the song tracks mentioned in each chapter.
This book will give you joyful feelings and you will definitely end up with a gigantic smile. ❤️❤️❤️

This is the companion to Joy's Summer Love Playlist. PLEASE read that first as it's absolutely adorable and a great read!
That being said, B-Sides answers questions and gives more information on these amazing characters. There's background and what happened after JSLP. I really enjoyed reading these new stories for these characters that I fell in love with. I feel like they are close friends!

I had the privilege of being an early reader for the B-Sides and let me tell you, this companion is a GIFT. JSLP was my favorite read of 2020 and I was so not ready to say goodbye to this group at the end. So imagine my glee at getting my hands on MORE scenes with some of my FAVORITE ships (and maybe a crack!ship i fell in love with during the main novel??? 👀). I was, and am, living. If you're like me and you aren't ready to say goodbye to Joy, Jin, Cale, Lena, Carson and co. - and ESPECIALLY if you want to see some of your FAVORITE scenes from an alternate POV, or even find out where some of these babies landed after the end of that magical whirlwind summer - then the B-Sides is exactly what you need. Its the perfect fall read to wind down the amazing summer of love, growth, and so. Much. Watermelon. Go get your copy TODAY!

I LOVED Joy's Summer Love Playlist, so I had to read the companion book too OF COURSE, and it did not disappoint! There was so much insight as to why things were the way they were in the first book, and lots of new swoon-worthy moments too. I will say that there were some moments that felt a little redundant in collaboration with the first book, but it was still super fun and well-done. I just wish I got to hear a little more about what happened between Lena and Carson, but overall, I really enjoyed this book. And the plot twist about Jin was shocking - I was shook, and it explained so much about his character flaws and limitations. Another great YA book by the talented Piper Bee!

This is such a great companion novella to JSLP! I loooved seeing through Jin's POV! The novella recaps a lot of what happened in the main novel through different POVs and also explores what happened to the characters after, as well as giving a little more insight to Jin's past. I loved revisiting the characters, and even though I'm bummed the B-Sides are the last we'll read about them, the author ended it so well and I feel satisfied.

"A potent love shows up when someone shatters in front of you and you help them pick up the pieces."
Well, that was sweet! "B-Sides" is a novella that compiles a series of scenes and bits from "Joy's Summer Love Playlist" as experienced by characters other than Joy, as well as three or four extra scenes that happen after the end of JSLP. We get to listen to what Jin, Lena, and Cale have to say, which helps one understand their interactions with Joy much better; as well as to get a sneak peek at how post-summer life looks for these four lovelies. I really loved seeing what was going through these three's minds during certain parts of the story, and ugh, those extra scenes from after JSLP ends were so good! Lena's post-summer scene, particularly, gave me all the feels. Like. Ughhh so cute! Loved that surprise ship so much! I wasn't as fond of Jin's initial B-Sides tracks as I hoped to, because he felt a little too focused on his own feelings and different from the Jin we saw through Joy's eyes in JSLP. His last tracks, though, were so sweet! I was really happy that I got to learn more about him, and his motivations and fears. Learning more about Cale, and who he really is, was also really endearing. Now I want to hug him tight!

If you're stuck with post-JSLP hangover, and haven't gotten enough of this universe, then this is Piper's present for you! You'll get to understand why certain things were said, what motivated certain characters, and what happens once the summer's over.

If you’re looking for a book that is equal parts love and friendship. Look no further! This book will give you all the feels, even the feels you don’t want to feel. Heartache and triumph alike. This was like stepping back in time for me and reliving what summers were like as a young woman or teen. Recommend for anyone who wants a light fast read!

Great add on to JSLP.
I liked how B-Side fleshed out more about Joy's world and the people around her- namely the other core 4- Lena, Cale, Jin and Carson. I had a lot of fun reading about the other core characters and their POV. This B-sides complements JSLP well.
I believe that most of us that reviewed this has already read the OG JSLP. But in the event that you read this before JSLP. Well, check out the OG. You'll love it.

Before reading this, obviously I highly recommend that you read the first book, Joy’s Summer Love Playlist. (You won’t regret it!)
I have nothing against Joy. Joy is a cutie and super sweet, but I was excited to dive into other characters’ lives in this companion novel. It was fun to see the flip side of some of the situations discussed and experienced in JSLP.
It doesn’t disappoint!
