Miss Juliana Pryce is on the run from her dastardly stepfather, who wants to control her wealth by marrying her off to his son! Knowing that she only has to escape their clutches for a few weeks until she comes of age, Juliana resolves to hide. The perfect place seemed to be in the household of Wentworth, the Earl of Rawlings!
Wentworth’s nose is always buried in a book, and despite meddling suggestions from his mother, he has little care for a lady’s companionship or matters of the heart. Until one day, he notices that stunningly lush derriere of his new valet! His suspicion stirs by his valet’s boldness and unconventional behavior, Wentworth resolves to an experiment: Find out if his valet is a woman.
Wentworth embarks on a campaign of roguish behavior! What will the scholarly earl do when the lush derriere, plump lips, and sensual smile he is so singularly attracted to are that of a lady’s?
I am an unapologetic romance lover. I read it. I write it. Enough said. Well..I also have a warrior way "Never give up on my dreams." I spend a copious amount of time drooling over Rick Grimes from Walking Dead, watching Japanese anime and playing video games with my love, Dusean.
With Stacy Reid, you just know you're going to get way more than you bargained for! A Rogue in the Making was a really lovely (and steamy) story between two quirky and unconventional characters. I loved the bookish hero and the heroine who had to disguise herself as a valet. The story definitely requires a suspension of disbelief, but I mean, I read to escape reality, so...
Stacy Reid is defo a favourite author of mine so I pounced on this read.
Miss Juliana Pryce is on the run/in hiding from her stepfather, who wants to control her wealth by marrying her off to his son. She only has to escape their clutches for a few weeks until she comes of age. The perfect place to hide seemed to be in the household of Wentworth, the Earl of Rawlings, since Wentworth’s nose is always buried in a book, so she dresses up as a man and becomes his valet. What Juliana doesn't count on is the fact that when he does look up he'll notice her, leading to Wentworth embarking on a campaign of roguish behaviour to prove his valet is a woman.
A light and easy read I enjoyed overall, even if I don't see myself re-reading.
This was such a fun and delightful read. I laughed quite a lot and spent most of the time with a smile on my face. I loved the fact that both characters were unconventional. This is a light and quick read yet steamy. I super recommend this short story!!! 5☆
The premise of this book was awesome and I can honestly say I haven’t come across anything similar before. I loved I didn’t know the exact formula beforehand. The banter was witty and the story moved along at a good pace.
Julianna has a lot of money coming her way, her inheritance from her father. Because of this, fortune hunters have been wooing her, and even her stepfather tries to force her into marriage to her step brother. To avoid that fate, she dresses as Wentworth’s valet and start working for him. This part is so fun and honestly I love the scientific approach Wentworth has to finding out if she is a woman or if he is attracted to a man.
Wentworth and Julianna fall in love etc etc etc. I write it like that because there was room for more drama! More intrigue with the stepbrother and mother. It all got wrapped up too fast, and I found myself skimming towards the end. The masquerade ball could have been a boiling point of drama, but it was hurried too much for me. I really enjoyed the story but didn’t feel a lot. I did however love Wentworth ❤️
Should you read it? Sure, it’s not my favorite Stacy Reid book but it’s definitely good. It was refreshing to read a different trope than the usual suspects in historical romance.
What a deviously fun read! Honestly, those where some of the hottest sexy times scenes I have read in a while. They were perfectly steamy without being vulgar. Normally I don't buy the h masking as a man but this done in a way that made it believable and it didn't drag on overly lone. The only reason why this wasn't a 5 star was that the drama with Juliana's stepfather was fixed up too quickly and the random appearance of Wentworth's family was unnecessary. I also wasn't convinced of Juliana's longing to return to New York but this was a short book so I can't expect everything to be fully covered. I do have a small criticism on the cover, the positioning of the H's hand is awkward and the whole time I was reading I was waiting for the h to be secretly pregnant!
I actually stopped reading at 56%. It took me forever to get to that point as I can't seem to focus very well lately (covid and war anxieties...).
But... the storyline was ok, I just felt that at the 56% point they knew that they liked each other already and all that was left was the drama with the heroine's step-father and the heroine admitting that being married AND being a businesswoman at the same time is ok for her. (she was another one of those anti-marriage heroines)
i just couldn’t shake the feeling that the H is secretly gay if he’s attracted to his valet in disguise, and hence I found there to be no chemistry between the H/h.
I'm still giggling at the image of Wentworth being devastated that he finds his valet's backside quite charming! This was such a fun story to read and I loved how unconventional both main characters were.
Juliana is running away from an arranged marriage and disguises herself as a valet to the Earl of Rawlings, having learned that he never pays attention to anything except his books, so she should be able to get away with it. Wentworth usually does have his nose in his books but there's something about his new valet that gets his attention. I loved how he scientifically tries to figure out if his new valet is a man or a woman!! As they get to know each other, they can't fight the attraction and it makes for some steamy scenes:)
I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I liked the book but there are a few problems with story continuity, especially during the hunting scenes. This is definitely an ADULT Historical Rom Com! Enjoy the book for what it is, a silly and fun fantasy!

Another engrossing enthralling read which I devoured in a sitting. Strong characters & a fun entertaining plot made for a very enjoyable read, at times I was laughing out loud especially at Wentworth & his experiments to find out if Julian was a woman. I loved Wentworth the highly intelligent, spectacle wearing bare fist fighting earl & Juliana the half American heiress, together they were perfect. I just loved the road to their HEA, long may the series continue My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
What a great Freebie!! I downloaded A Rogue in the Making from Amazon when it was offered for free!!
I could not put this the story down !! Read it straight through. I loved both lead characters Miss Juliana Pryce obscenely rich American Heiress and Wentworth Alexander Nelson Earl of Rawlings, Genius .
Juliana has escaped a kidnapping by her stepfather and stepbrother! They want her inheritance. She forms a rouse and pretends to be a male valet to the Earl of Rawlings. She needs to hide until she can reach her majority of 25. Thats the only think I didn't like about the story!! I am sick of the Spinster storyline!!
This was a joyful romantic sensuous story!! With very good character development!!
Ini tu kocak banget deh, Lord nya ilmuan yg kekeh semua hal ada penjelasan logisnya, sampai suatu hari die tiba2 tersadar kalau valetnya ini "menggoda"!
Dia sampai bikin hipotesa bagaimana tu Valet bisa membuatnya tertarik, padahal die yakin seyakin-yakinnya kalau die gak suka sejenis kwkwkwkwkwkw
Juliana ini American Heiress yg kabur kr mau dinikahkan sama anak bpk tirinya biar warisannya gak kemana2, die sendiri gak pgn nikah, mau jadi business woman katanya... makanya kabur, lompat dr kereta kuda yg lagi jalan dan nyari lord yg pernah disebutin kakaknya kalau butuh bantuan. Saking kumelnya sama buttler si Lord dikira mo ngelamar kerja dan memutuskan buat nyamar jadi cowo kr yg ada posisi sbg Valet, toh para lord & lady di ton gak pernah bener2 merhatiin para pelayannya kan.
Sometimes drastic measures have to be taken in order to ensure one's safety. Or at least not to be tied to a gentlemen who only wants her inheritance. Yes and Juliana was desperate!
In escaping her stepfather, who was trying to marry her to his son, Juliana found by chance a way to hide until she reached her 25th birthday and gained control of her funds. She became a valet, and can I say a most intriguing valet?
At least to Wentworth, Earl of Rawlings who began having a hard to not looking at his valet's derriere!!
❝I would have chased you to the end of the world…and then I would have stayed by your side.❞
him chasing her barefoot as she drove away and her jumping from a moving carriage because her brother wouldn't stop and so she could come back to him. both have gone mad. <3
A Rogue in the Making, by Stacy Reid. I found this book beautiful. I found this book a joy to read. I found this book very romantic. Stacy Reid, you are a true romantic writer. The writer had me on the verge of tears. This book was so endearing. It was like two star cross lovers running to each other. The writer catered to every expectation that the reader wanted to get from this book. Genuinely this book was a treasure to read. Stephanie really captured her readers attention with this romantic love story. Wentworth and Juliana’s love story is sweet and so hot and sexy. I mean they stole some intimate moments that they got me a little hot around the collar. I couldn’t help but laugh when the little boy stumbled upon them at the lake. My fellow readers, I recommend this book with two snaps and a twist of love. Until next time... read on! I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.
This one was just okay. The story was interesting enough a woman posing as a Valet and the Earl still falling in love. But there was just something choppy about it. It didn’t have the passion of other books.
THIS WAS SWEET AND HUMOROUS. AS USUAL, STACY REID WRITES A WONDERFUL ROMANCE THAT'S GOOD FOR A LONELY SOUL.
WENTWORTH isn't like the usual cocky, arrogant or skirt-chasing lord of the ton. I'm not usually partial to bookish characters, but I liked Wentworth. He's the definition of a hot nerd from the Regency era. Wentworth's never been particularly interested in debauchery, females or hedonistic pleasures in general. He always has his nose buried in a book, his attention better spent in the world of verbatim than dealing with reality. Sometimes, he even walks into doors! Of course, our lovely heroine takes advantage of his habit by sneaking into his household as a valet. Wentworth's never been distracted before until a lush arse catches his eye and this begins a volley of curious questions filtering through his mind about his unusual attraction towards his own valet, for God's sake! There was humour when Wentworth questioned his own sexuality for a second. The poor man. As a man of science, it was typical of him to uncover his valet's gender by experimentation, even going far as to have it scripted with his observations and hypothesis. You'd think he would be a boring character, but I quite like how he surprises you with different aspects of himself. I repeat, he's not like the lords of society. Wentworth isn't unjust and treats every living being with respect and he has a decorum of compassion that extends to others based on his actions and decisions.
JULIANA isn't a society lady but, a mere miss from America whose mother wedded a Lord. Juliana got word that her stepfather plans to have her married to her odious stepbrother in order to have control over her trust fund. In order to escape that fate, she tries to get help from her biological brother's friends - one who isn't reliable, and the other on his way to be ensconced in the countryside. You can guess which one she 'took advantage' of. Juliana doesn't find it hard to become Wentworth's valet for she can practically do everything required of her. It's a more down to Earth rendition because a lady won't have any knowledge of acting a valet but a mere miss like Juliana would. Juliana's a sharp wit, and while she's practical, I think you'll find her to just be desperate at the time of her assuming a valet's role. Juliana and Wentworth's attraction was almost immediate, though it didn't read like a cheesy, insignificant insta-love story because it was filled with laugh-out-loud moments, sentimental moments and well, it's a Stacy Reid story, so how can I ever NOT like it?
OVERALL I don't have much to say but if you're a fan of S.R, woman or man, dear reader why are you still here and not getting a copy of this for your own bookshelf?!
This was a very enjoyable story about a super quirky nobleman (Wentworth) and a young woman (Juliana) who disguises herself as a manservant so she can hide out in his household until she becomes of legal age to not be forced to marry at her stepfather’s behest. The lead characters are entertaining, especially Wentworth, who is wonderfully unique with his academic brilliance and scientific thought processes. His approach to figuring out why feels physical attraction towards his new valet was really funny. I thought the author did a very good job conveying the inner turmoil of each character as they try to reconcile their own feelings with the plans each had for their lives. The author’s writing style is very easy to read. The HEA was funny, sweet and nerve-wracking all at once. I’m definitely going to look for other books she has written, because I really enjoyed this one.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wentworth loves books, mathematical equations and experiments! Juliana is a great heiress her dowry would make most English women dowry look like pocket change! She has plans and business endeavors in New York and can't see how that could ever be put on hold until Wentworth! Moonlight walks, stuck in the rain, attending him in the bath as his valet she literally sees more of him than anyone else and her feelings grow as does his! When a experiment goes exactly right will love be the equation or can these two bring two worlds together or be torn apart!!
Juliana gets abducted by her stepbrother, runs away, and decides to hide as Wentworth's valet until she reaches her majority and can take control of her inheritance. The premise is pretty farcical, but it's full of a silly delight watching people misinterpret the relationship.
A Rogue in the Making was a fun story. It was also cute, sweet, sexy and steamy. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more in this series and more by this author.
A quick, light read to end my reading slump! It tells the story about Julianna, who disguised herself as a valet to Wentworth as she tries to escape a forced marriage to her stepbrother. While it was fun to read Julianna and Wentworth, I didn’t feel that spark of chemistry between them. Maybe it’s because I felt some scenes were rushed and some supporting characters either appeared briefly or just one-dimensional.
Miss Juliana Pryce step-father want control of her inheritance and the only way is to force a marriage to his son. Juliana has other ideas she just two month shy of her birthday and inheriting a portion of her income and decides to run and hide until her birthday. She transforms herself into a valet for Wentworth, the Earl of Rawlings. Wentworth always has his nose in a book so doesn’t notice Juliana at first, then he becomes suspicious when he’s notices he’s attracted to his valet derriere. He becomes suspicious his valet is a young woman and it doesn’t take long to put his theory to the test and see what his little valet is hiding and who from. A great story of a little cat and mouse with Juliana pretending to be a valet as Wentworth embarks on a campaign of roguish behavior to determine if he is actually a young woman. He’s determined to find out everything about the delectable young woman and then tries to save her from her dastardly step-father. I have voluntarily read and reviewed these excellent story.
As I have probably stated every time I have read and reviewed a Stacy Reid story, I just love her writing style. I always enjoy the characters and the stories. This book is no exception. This is about Juliana who is a half American half English heiress who is trying to run away and hide from her step-father who wants to marry her to his son so he can keep her money in the family. Juliana runs to Wentworth, Earl of Rawlings to protect her until her brother returns from America. The problem is Wentworth is so busy in his books and studies, he will not even meet with her. What is a girl to do – dress as a man and become his valet. This is where the fun begins. I loved the characters interaction with each other, how the Earl tries to be a gentleman and the love that forms between them. At the end of this story, I had a smile on my face and felt happy. I received an ARC copy of this book from Booksprout for my honest opinion.
