Love's Young Dream

To be alone with him was everything Vivian desired. To feel Jimmy Loring's tender lips on hers, to hear his longing words of love was like a dream of ecstasy. Then one night, as they stood together 'neath the shadow of a summerhouse in Monte Carlo, Vivian's dream was shattered. His love was hers no more. He was gone!

Before she could recover from her shock, or summon the breath to whisper his name into the moonlight, she sensed another's presence among the shadows of the quiet garden. A mystery man whom she could not see, but whose voice compelled her to keep a secret. That secret would sweep her half way round the world on a perilous rendezvous with love!

This one feels rather colonialist. Most non-English people are likely to be either violent rapists and murderers, dirty, superstitious, peasants, or friends of the MMC who are great, The FMC's father is a cartographer and the three of them get into a great deal of trouble in Tibet. I'm not sure why they were there but I skimmed some and may have missed the explanation. The MMC has an extreme case of instaluv, proposing after little interaction. I didn't think he had enough reasons to love her and she wasn't much better off. Granted he saved her life a couple of times but then again she wouldn't have needed saving if he didn't drag her family into the adventures to begin with. She has several other male admirers in the course of the story. Several people die.
