The Over Bridge

Rate this book
‘The Over Bridge is a brand new twisted tale of atmospheric horror; driven by mystery, ghosts and terror on a universal level. It all started with an ominous fog, followed by the screams, the darkness, and the silence. Thomas finds himself abandoned on the Over Bridge, with no recollection of what caused his blackout. Unbeknownst to Thomas, something sinister lurks in the fog, unwilling to allow him safe passage. Thomas soon faces vengeful phantoms, hellish nightmares and his own paranoia. Death comes to the Over Bridge.’

"I noticed there was something out of place; the whole bridge was silent. I heard no car engines, or the chatter of people, or even car horns being pressed by the fists of angry drivers. It was like the world had gone to war and sound had fallen to the victory of silence"
This started off with so much suspense. I was hooked by the super creepy feelings right from the start with short chapters and a bit of a cliff hanger at the end of each one. It was impossible to put down and I read the whole thing in one day. I had so many highlights on my kindle because so many statements caught my eye. I also had a lot of notes, most of which were me cursing out the author.
If you took The Mist, The Langoliers, and Under The Dome and put them in a blender you would come up with the premise for this story, but it is completely different from all of those.
This is what I love about finding new authors, having them absolutely immerse you into the book and make you feel the quiet dread that the characters feel.
I bought Deep Arya's book "Don't Trust Bees" first but then I learned that there were little connections. His first two books were short so I read this and now I can't wait to start Broken Rock.
P.S. I know I am a homer, but I had no idea this was set in Maine

I'd say this is probably a 2.5 for me...but rounding down to a two because I just feel like it's not something I would recommend at all. The story itself...the plot...is fine. I think it could make a really creepy movie. But the writing just didnt do it for me...it felt very superficial and amateur. There were a bunch of places where the wrong word was used or a common phrase was messed up...and that just took me out of the story over and over. I wasnt invested in any of the characters...and the ending left me very unsatisfied...but I dont even care that much because at least its over. I have another book from this author on my TBR to try and hopefully that works better for me. This one just fell short. Free with Kindle Unlimited.

I enjoyed the mystery and the building suspense. I found it to be quite cinematic in that there was an unmistakable atmosphere created. It's a super quick read and one that I enjoyed.

I was kindly sent a copy of this book to read and review!
* Thomas wakes up from a blackout realizing that he’s stuck on the Over Bridge.
* There are dozens of cars all around him, but they’re abandoned. No one else is there.
* The last thing he can remember is driving home from the custody hearing for his daughter. His ex-wife won custody and he was so angry because he loves his daughter and his wife made up all these lies to gain custody.
* He doesn’t remember anything other than this.
* He ends up running into other people Carl a realtor, Henry who is 70 years old, Allison a police officer, and Emily a young girl.
* The group realizes that this bridge is encased in thick thick thick fog. They can’t see anything and can’t remember anything as well.
* The group ventures through the bridge to find a way out of this nightmare.
* They soon find out that they aren’t alone on this fog encased bridge.
* Super duper easy read, only 105 pages, very easy.
* Sometimes the writing felt a little clunky and choppy feeling. It might just be because it’s a new author to me and sometimes I have to get used to the writing style a bit.
* I felt like the plot was really cool because it relied on the feeling of being trapped and that’s always really nerve-racking in books.
* I wish we had learned a little bit more about the characters back stories some more. I feel like there was a lot unsaid that could’ve been a really cool addition to the story. I felt like I couldn’t fully connect to a character because I didn’t know enough about them.
* However, I understand that a novella is very short and often times doesn’t need all that info to add length.
* Overall, I thought the whole story was really cool and had a nice plot twist thrown in.
* For a debut novel I think it’s a really great start and I think as a writer he’ll get even better as time progresses.
* I can’t wait to see what other stuff he comes out with.

A great atmospheric supernatural story about a group of strangers that wake up inside their cars in the Overbridge. They do not remember what happened to them and look for other people through the fog.

However there are many horrors that the fog will reveal to them and they will have to face their deepest horrors.

With a great story and great characters I wish I could have had many many more pages to follow the characters and explore their stories a bit more. An author to definitely watch out for and I will make sure to check anything new they bring out.

Grips you from the first page with wonder and concern. I moved through the pages as cautiously as the main character. Spooky and adrenaline filled. Highly recommend.

last one for a bit as I'm finally all caught up. Also MILD SPOILERS only so I can properly explain some thoughts.

The Over Bridge is a cosmic horror story that bears remarkable similarities to the work of Lovecraft. The story Is interesting, the mystery Is engaging and I found myself having fun with this. It's a short piece, but still a good read. By now I think everyone knows my gripes with novellas, too short, not fleshed out enough etc. But that doesn't really play into here. Everything is set up accordingly everything fits according to the narrative. Especially at the fast pace it's set at.

I will say that I've only two gripes. Things are a bit mellow dramatic, certain character revelations and the subsequent dialogue that follow are a bit cheesy in a way?
And there's a wastes character that bugged me a bit. A woman cop joins the gang, but she gets regulated to just woman rather than cop. And maybe I missed something in my reading, but (spoiler here) they come upon a downed plane and instead of her going to check it out as cop would do, she gets regulated to watching the kid while the 2 least prepared individuals go and check the damage. It was just weird to me, and probably my only gripe. A fan of cosmic horror though I'm still largely interested in more work by the author

First the good part. The premise of this book was really good and had a really good idea. The confusion that the main character felt was definitely coming through the writing. The bad part. This really needs an editor. There are just some phrases that really need some help and need to be reworked. There are a few places here where the words are just used incorrectly. Also, for such a short book, I felt like it went on too long. I really disliked how the end of every chapter just stopped with some kind of WHAM or BAM or something. Overall, good premise, but needs to be rewritten with lots of edits. 2.5 stars.

Idk

There are typos and errors but that's not why I didn't like this. It started off ok, and then...idk...it just wasn't for me.

Okay, so I’ve gotta admit it wasn’t among the *best* written books I’ve ever read, but as someone who’s really interested in eldrich horror, it was fun and atmospheric.
