This is a good, short book. If you've never thought much about fitness, especially in middle age, there is a lot of good advice here. On the other hand, if you HAVE thought a lot about fitness, and especially in middle age, you will find nothing here you didn't already know. The author brags a lot about his own fitness levels, and then goes on to make very good recommendations based on a priority stack that puts longevity and functional health first. All good stuff, but again, you probably aren't getting new information (depending on where you are coming from though, it might be great - for complete "beginners," it is probably a great value). Certainly, it was nothing new for me, and indeed, I was hoping for more about how to really understand and program training volume in middle age, and more about how us older folks need to tune our diet to support hormonal health, etc.
Excellent book on the Fundamentals of health and fitness!
I gave this book 5 stars because I'm a testament to Andrew's 28 day Challenge. I lost 7 kilos in 4 weeks and learned so much about myself personally as regards to what has always held me back in the past. This book covers the template of that Challenge in great detail and with some extra information also which is great! What really appeals to me is the simplicity and effectiveness of the information in this short but powerful book particularly for anyone who's hitting the 40 mark. A must read for anyone looking to improve their physical and mental health not to mention their quality of life!
Clear, concise lifestyle & training advice within.
My only critique (and, it's a relatively minor one) is with the more than occasional "thou-shalt" tone. Even if Andrew Read is right, HOW he says things are as important as WHAT he's saying.
Otherwise, it's a very good primer on lifestyle corrections to boost longevity, and also getting into the best shape you can be in, in the time you can allot to the work.

Andrew cuts through the crap of the fitness industry with a sensible approach to fitness for us older guys. With priority given to health his ideas are refreshing but effective. Easy to read with lots of lessons to start to apply straight away.
