A small business doesn't have much chance of success in Willow's End, Missouri.
Neither does a gay man looking for more than a casual hook up.
It doesn't matter to Charlie Baxter. He swore he'd bring his grandfather's dream to life - and he did, even if Bax Bakery is barely scraping by. Most of the time, it feels like his life is barely scraping by, too - but when a long lost fling breaks down on the highway just outside of town, Charlie isn't prepared for the way Trey makes him realize just how lonely he is.
Trey's off on an adventure - to see and seduce all fifty states. He's never been more than the love 'em and leave 'em type, so for someone like Charlie, it doesn't make sense to get involved.
But Trey heats Charlie up like bread rising in the oven, and Charlie? He's in way over his head.
Gamble is the fourth entry in the Virtue & Vice series, but it can also be read as a standalone novel! This book features a drawer full of lottery tickets, a broken down Mustang, one supportive grandma, and the scorching flame of two men who were always meant to be together. It was previously published under the title Trust.
Life is a mysterious concocktion formed from rumor, happenstance, friends, family, weather, accidents, incidents, work, education, gifts, grants, glories, love, caring, and sharing. The chaos keeps it interesting, with family wanting different things from what friends want, but the love bug infects the hearts of all differently to produce just the perfect partnership for some who have struggled with life while others just wander lost in their own screwed up world blaming everyone else for their failures that they did not deserve.
Yet it is possible to pick out a couple of very unlikely lovers who separate after a very brief time, then years later meet under very unusual circumstances that brings them into a loving relationship in spite of all their efforts to stay apart.
The smells of a bakery can invade the nose and mind to make more than the yeast rise as fresh dreams wash away the negatives of the past and cushion the bumps with soft rolls or crunchy bagels surrounded by cookies and scones. Who can resist helping themselves to fresh while enjoying the moment shared while learning the good fortune of lottery dough and love of life.
Really enjoyed this book. Great addition to the series. I enjoy books where one of the guys realizes he's over random hookups and wants something more. I loved the way the book ended. The epilogue was so sweet.
It didn't keep my interest as much as the others. I felt like it was a totally random story. When I read series I feel there should be some tie in but this one had nothing. These two were cute but the second chance didn't ring true for me. It was just a hookup and a chance meeting when his car broke down.
