Liberty ‘Libby’ Lawrence adores designer labels – even though she can’t afford many. And she especially loves shoes. Her favourites are Christian Louboutins – though not those fake ones Bianca Morrison-Wright gets from the market (the red paint rubs off the soles and everything!) She’s working as a manager (albeit junior manager) at a London hotel, when the boss announces that there has been a theft from his office. Libby couldn’t help noticing some strange marks on his carpet when she was called in for a reprimand recently (not that it was her fault, or anything) which lead her to surmise who the thief is. Detective Sergeant James Harper, the hunky policemen who is assigned the case, seems interested in her theory – until she names her number one suspect. Libby is devastated, not only because he doesn’t believe her but – more importantly – that this guy knows NOTHING about shoes! As Libby struggles to convince the sergeant that her hunch is right, her boss that she’s ready for promotion and herself that she’s not really falling for the gorgeous copper, she realises that maybe she’s wrong about the theft, she’s not suited to the hotel industry and that the handsome hunk is married!
Bea Stevens... Author of Chick Lit, lover of chocolate (and doesn’t think it’s pure coincidence that the two sound similar!) Has a penchant for shoes, bags, clothes (the usual necessities), and socialising with friends, family and anyone else who gets dragged along. Hopes you enjoy her books, get her humour, don’t object to her use of British spellings (as Facebook clearly does!) and keep in touch!

I was lucky enough to beta read this debut chick-lit novel from Bea Stevens, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone that knows me is aware that I rarely award books I read 5 stars, they really have to either move me emotionally, stay with me for days after, or make me cry either tears of laughter, or emotion. So I don't award a coveted 5 star rating often, but I had to for this gem of a British romantic comedy. Stevens has written a totally endearing heroine in Libby and you can't help but will her on to get her HEA with love interest James. With witty banter, classically British humour, and romance aplenty, you'd be forgiven for thinking that this novel follows the traditional route of a romantic comedy. However Stevens has really put some thought into some clever plot devices and twists to keep you guessing throughout, and that's what elevated this read for me. Well written with an easy reading style that just flowed, I simply loved it, and can't wait to read the next book in the series. I urge all chick-lit lovers to give this debut novel a try!
Best Food Forward by Bea Stevens a four-star read that will surprise you. This is the first book in the Liberty Lawrence series, and what a charming and funny start to what I am sure will be a great series. Tis was a good whodunit but to add the twist Libby knows who’s donnit she just can’t prove it, it’s just the hunky detective that throws a spanner in the works and when a man is as hunky as detective Harper you sometimes can’t help your heart. There are so many funny moments in this story, be warned you ma leak while reading.
I must admit, when I started Best Foot Forward, I had a hard time getting through it. However, after a few chapters, I started flying through it!
This book contains a lot of funny references, has a mysterious crime to solve and a fashionista as a main character. While reading Best Foot Forward, I constantly bumped into another surprising element that I didn’t expect. I loved the unpredictability of it.
The reveal of who committed the crime and how it happened was quite the surprise for me. I didn’t really see it coming, which I love! I didn’t really have a clue.
Book 1 of the series and it's a fun, lighthearted book. Lots of laugh out loud moments. Libby is a liability, a clumsy clutz that gets herself into some situations. This book had a slow start, but once you get into the characters, their story, and the setting it flows nicely.
Well, this book is hard for me to review. First of all: I like that it says romcom without sex. That's what it is.
BUT ... It just didn't hit any nerve for me. I didnt really laugh. The female lead, Libby, was sort of annoying to me. She's really into fashion, which is kinda nice, unhappy with her job and way too clumsy. The male lead is ... well ... in my mind he's hot ;)
The connection they should have is not there, in my opinion. There's also a lot of back and forth which I find highly annoying.
The storyline is the biggest plus, because it's well planned out. Other than that, just not my book :(

This is a wonderful romantic comedy, which has laughs out loud moments throughout. Libby works as a junior manager in a London hotel, and is passionate about designer labels, especially shoes. When her boss informs her that someone broke into his office and stole from him, Libby has her own ideas on who the suspect is. James is a hunky detective, and is not convinced that Libby’s theories are correct. No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed. This story is filled with twists, surprises, humour, and is a captivating page turned from beginning to end. I cannot wait to read more of this authors’ work and recommend for all comedy lovers out there.

Best Foot Forward by Bea Stevens is the first book in the Liberty Lawrence series. This book is fun and entertaining, with great characters and a full packed story line. I knew I would enjoy this book right from the start because I found it so easy to fall in love with Libby. She was such a fun character that she immediately appealed to me. She helped to keep the book light hearted but also engaging from start to finish. Bea Stevens is a relatively new author to me and yet I have come to expect well written books each and every time. This is clearly the start of a great news series and I cannot wait to read more.
I enjoyed the story. It was a little long - and drug on a little long. But a fun story - similarities to the Plum books - if you like those, but writing isn't quite the same.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you for the free copy of this book to the author and to Book Sirens.
I made a total of 117 Kindle notes and highlights of this book. I think I've mentioned this before in my book reviews, but every time you catch me making a lot of annotations and writing at the margins and edges of pages, you know it's a good book. Before getting into the review, I would like to apologize for taking so long to get this post up. It was meant to be published, three months ago, but I ended up working on other projects so this got set aside for a little while. And at that time, I was waiting to finish reading all of the other books I was currently reading so I could publish all of them together in one go. Three months later it's finally happening.
I gave this book 5/5 stars. I had a really great time with this book. I remember whenever I could catch a break or after finishing chores or errands, I couldn't wait to get back to reading this book. I'm not sure if there is already an audiobook out for Best Foot Forward, but I would also like to see this book in that format. It would've been great if I had that as a companion to the book because I could just jump into any chapter I was in while driving or waiting in the car.
What I Like About This Book: 1) Female friendship - I really love the chemistry between Libby & Cassie. There was enough page time (the equivalent of screen time?) to present their friendship to the reader. I love that their friendship gets an adequate spotlight with everything else that's going on. The characters themselves feel fleshed-out and authentic. I always love it when an author hits that nail in the head. 2) Humor - I don't know much of British local dialects, but this book still manages to make my sides hurt. I remember grinning a lot while reading this under my comforter late at night. 3) Romance Done Right - Often in books, films, or television series, whenever romance is injected out of nowhere, the story starts to fall apart. Not so for Best Foot Forward. The plot, the relationship between characters, the pacing, and the romantic aspect itself all remain intact. And Stevens has my applause for that. 4) Fashion & Mystery - I remember the first business email that Ms. Stevens sent me and she said that this book is right up my alley and goes really well with my blog's niche. She couldn't be more right. This book was exactly my cup of tea. In my film reviews, I always mention how much I love Noir and Femme Fatales. And in my hauls, I always like girly, feminine things like makeup and clothes. Imagine my surprise, when a book with all of those combinations already exists. Still very grateful to this day that Ms. Stevens allowed me an ARC of her wonderful work, Best Foot Forward. 5) Writing style - If I hadn't already said it in my intro, I annotated this book a lot. Stevens writing style is fresh, cohesive, and has the right amount of flair that I totally enjoyed. 6) Series - I would be more than happy to re-read this book over and over again. Particularly during the summer. But I am so happy that there a bunch of volumes already out just waiting for me. Please check out Bea Stevens Official Site, so you can stay updated on her upcoming works. 7) Film/TV - I hope a producer picks up her works soon so we can enjoy it either in BBC Masterpiece Classics or any other huge TV network. 8) Illustration - I love her art covers. I love the fashion illustrations. It looks so feminine and chic.
What Others May Not Like About This Book: 1) The setting of this book is in the UK so the language barrier could be a possible hindrance in enjoying this book. But I highly doubt anyone in this day and age could really struggle with reading this book even with the local dialect being foreign because you can always look up what things mean on Google. Also, I feel like everyone has at least one UK Blogger or Youtuber that they like and I feel like that should also help clear some of the foreign words you're going to encounter. With the internet, everyone is connected in some way. You can always look up local expressions on either Quora or Reddit and big bonus, you get to learn something new. That is the only con, I can see for this book. Although, IMO, it isn't really. There are context clues around to help you out with what the author meant in a certain passage or paragraph. I never felt lost reading this book.

“Best Foot Forward" by Bea Stevens is a Chick-lit romantic comedy comprising 254 pages. To be honest I am not a Rom-com Literature fan ever. But I decided to go for it with Ms Steven's book this year. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and that was only because Stevens wrote it interestingly.
The story revolves around Libby originally named as Liberty Lawrence, a young woman who earns her living being a junior manager at the hotel. The moment I started reading the book I got into this chic-Lit world of Libby at the hands of Stevens. I loved the way Libby has been introduced to the readers as a heart broken yet professional to carry on with her job right after the break up. She didn't seem to be a saddened soul who lost control over her emotions instead a strong girl with her head high and clear thoughts on her life goal to be promoted at her workplace. I liked this attitude of hers when she was informed by her boss of the suspected robbery in his office, she immediately comes out of her personal bitter experience of losing a boyfriend and steps in as a detective on her own.
Libby's character seemed interesting right from the start when she declares her love for the clothes, designers labels and shoes despite, she couldn’t afford it. It has made up the image of “Emily" from a popular Netflix TV show entitled “Emily in Paris.” I couldn’t help but relating her personality to that heroine from that show. Her intuitive power even revealed her the name of the thief as well. It was hilarious to read the way she tries to convince the investigating officer of her suspicion.
Ms Stevens has really created a relatable character in the form of Libby. We come across such cute chic with guts in our life often. Her confidence, humour and wits will drive you nuts and laugh out loud at the same moment. The language of the book is really simple and funny where you love reading those cheeky dialogues from Libby and end up laughing hard. The rest of the characters are also commendable creations of Stevens as the novelist.
I would rate this book a good 4 stars read because of the art of characterization by Stevens along with a hilarious plot that has actually sparked the humour in this book. If you have been a “Mills & Boons" fan ever since your childhood you must not miss this novel by Stevens being the first in the series to once again cherish those evergreen memories. And those who have never read those “Mills & Boons" romances you got to try reading this book to develop the taste for the Chick-lit genre! The teenagers are highly recommended to read and enjoy this great read this winter to upgrade their reading taste as well.

As a Book Reviewer, I received a free ebook copy of this book for my honest review.
About the Book: Best Foot Forward is the first book in the “Liberty Lawrence” series by Bea Stevens. Liberty, or “Libby” as most of her friends call her, is the main character of this series of books. In Best Foot Forward, Libby lives and works in a large hotel. The story is told in her point of view in first person. Libby experiences many mishaps in the story and finds herself in the middle of a mystery. She is also obsessed with shoes, especially designer shoes.
My Review: I’m not a fan of books written in first person. However, for Best Foot Forward by Bea Stevens, the first person point of view works well, both for Ms. Stevens’ writing style, and Liberty Lawrence’s personality and the story itself, as it adds to the quirkiness of the character.
Best Foot Forward is a unique mystery story, as it is a combination of a romantic comedy and cozy mystery. In the beginning of the story, I found Libby to be a bit self-absorbed and prone to self-pity. However, as the story moved along and Libby’s character developed, she became quite endearing as she suffered embarrassing mishaps, and showed a sensitivity and empathy toward other characters who were going through personal difficulties.
The story was believable and it was easy to relate to Libby’s feelings in regard to her love life. I found myself smiling at some of Libby’s mishaps and thoughts. She also warmed my heart in the care, concern, and help she offered to others. I also enjoyed the relationship that has begun between Libby and Police Sergeant James Harper.
The one thing I think was a bit overboard was the profanity. I’m not a fan of books with profanity, and often, the author wrote Libby’s thoughts and ended them with an exclaimed profane word, which I didn’t feel was necessary or added anything to the story. However, I am thankful that the author tended to stick to mild profane words, but still would have preferred fewer of them.
Best Foot Forward (The Liberty Lawrence Series #1) by Bea Stevens was a sweet, light hearted read that hits you right in the good feels department.
My first read from this author and I'm liking what's being put out. A fun light heart read with witty dialogue, exciting characters, a mystery, and of course a hot cop, made for an entertaining, engaging read that had me flipping the pages. I will say that, I did at times fine myself annoyed with the inner dialogue of the MC. She's very into fashion and brands, and as someone who doesn't care about labels, I found the constance high end label names drops, annoying. I get it, it's part of the characters persona, but it was too much.
Speaking of the MC, Libby was something. But I don't like how over the top, the clumsy, bad luck, trope was bestowed on her was. It got to the point where the surprise was taken away, and I just rolled my eyes when she fell, tripped, or ruined something... again. Once in awhile is fine, but like her label dropping, it was too much. But overall she was a pretty solid character, and she did grow on me. I liked how she kept pushing forward and how loyal she was to her bestie.
Overall this story was sweet, fun, and entertaining as hell. I love the ending, way to leave a girl hanging! I need to know if that last scene was stage or true! Good thing I already have the second book. And will be jumping into that one ASAP!
So please take my high recommendation and my stamp of approval that you will have the time of your life reading this book.
Best Foot Forward (The Liberty Lawrence Series Book 1) By: Bea Stevens 5 out of 5 stars
The story Best Foot Forward (The Liberty Lawrence Series Book 1) by Bea Stevens is an awesome book that I loved reading. One of the reasons I loved it so much is the character of Liberty “Libby” Lawrence. She is a woman who has a high energy level and loves designer shoes. She is someone I would like to go shopping with. She has an eye for detail and that may be why she finds herself with a theory as to who the thief is at the hotel where she works. Now all she has to do is convince Detective Sergeant James Harper, the handsome policeman that she is right. Liberty seems to be falling for James a little more each time that they meet. Is Liberty right about who she suspects the thief to be? Will anything happen between Liberty and James? What does the future hold for Liberty? Read this book to find out. This story had me with a smile on my face and at times laughing out loud. My emotions went up and down with Liberty’s and I found myself caring about her with every chapter that I read. There are times when I wanted to give her a hug and others when I wondered what she was going to do next. There are other secondary characters that are introduced, and I enjoyed reading about many of them and their interactions with Liberty. This is a book that hooked me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until the final page. It is a story I would recommend reading.
Best Foot Forward by Bea Stevens The Liberty Lawrence Series Book 1 My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
This is a wonderful book. There is drama, mystery, romance, and humor all throughout. The story is sweet and flowed very nicely.
Liberty or as she is know by her friends, Libby, is a good friend and a hard worker, but she gets on my nerves sometimes. She is very self conscious when it comes to dating, and she overthinks everything. I love that she wants to investigate the theft for real with her best friend Cassie, and they seem to be on to the person responsible, until there not.
I really like Detective James Harper. At first I thought he was going to be a jerk, but then he turns it all around on me and makes me love him. He doesn’t believe Libby when she tells him who she thinks the thief is, due to her having a very personal issue with that so called thief.
Connor. Libby’s boyfriend Conner also works at the hotel and has recently been spotted hanging out and being way too friendly with the bar maid Bianca. I believe Conner thinks he is God’s gift to women for the way he acts and some of the suggestions he makes regarding his relationship with Libby and his relationship with Bianca!
The ending had me smiling. I was surprised at who the thief turned out to be and the way Libby’s life was turned around. The ending was a beautiful wrap up to such a good book, I could not put it down. I would definitely recommend this book!
As soon as I received Best Food Forward I couldn’t put it down, it made me giggle (which is quite rare) and gasp.
Best Food Forward follows a young lady, Libby (Liberty Lawrence), through a romantic breakup and finding new love. But young love never runs smoothly, especially when she finds herself caught up with the recent thieves from a London hotel where she works. Libby discovers clues that will help crack the case and find the culprit behind the robberies. OR so she thinks. Devastated that she might be the cause of the wrongful arrest, Libby throws herself into her managerial work at the hotel, but the handsome policeman who is on the case has other ideas.
Libby, an accident-prone young lady with two left feet whose first love is designer shoes, will capture your heart, but surely you will also find her exasperating at times. Libby’s accident-prone nature adds to the plot of this romance comedy. There were a couple of times where I found myself holding my breath only to release it to a giggle. Bea Stevens writing in her first chick lit novel Best Food Forward is an easy story lose yourself in. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Best Foot Forward (The Liberty Lawrence Series Book 1) Bea Stevens is a crazy and fun loving read that will have you laughing out loud at the utterly charming and a little crazy thinking Libby. The thoughts that go through her mind are wonderfully out there and kept me totally entertained and fully engrossed the whole way through. I have read the second book in the series, which totally enchanted me, so it was great to see where it began and I was glad to find that it is equally as delightful.
Libby is a klutz, wherever she goes mayhem follows. She is a lover of all things fashion and is an expert when it comes to shoes. When there is a theft at the hotel she works at, somehow she manages to be in the right place at the wrong time. Libby uses her detective skills to form her own idea on who the thief is, but is it right? Her highly entertaining shenanigans will delight you as she delves into things others prefer she wouldn’t.
Bea has a hit on her hands with this series and I can’t wait to read more on Miss Liberty Lawrence and her craziness.
Best Foot Forward (The Liberty Lawrence Series Book 1) by Bea Stevens
5 Stars
I read the second book first in this series and when I was finished all I could think of is I have to read the first. I love love love Libby in these books...I can relate to her because Im nothing like her, well not completely but she is someone I would love to be friends with.
I knew going in that I was going to love this book. I was so happy to be able to read about how her and Jack came to be or not to be as the case may be sometimes lol. This story made me laugh out loud on a few occasions but I smiled literally all the way through. I loved Mrs Merrington-Smythe..Next to Libby she was my favorite part of this book well and of course Popsie :)
I can seriously see these books being made into a movie and I know I would absolutely love that, they are so much fun and full of fun little twists and turns. I read this one in one sitting and now want to go read the second one again and wait not so patiently for the next.
Best Foot Forward (The Liberty Lawrence Series #1) by Bea Stevens was a fun read that has drama, mystery, humor and romance woven throughout the story. This is my first read from this author and find her writing style to be both engaging with an on point sense of humor. I always enjoy a good mystery and this one delivered. The main character, Libby, is young, she works hard, enjoys fashion she cannot afford and tends to overthink things. As the story progresses, Libby finds herself working to solve a mystery with her best friend Cassie. Detective James Harper is also working the case and the fact that he’s gorgeous doesn’t hurt. But Libby is not happy when the detective does not agree with her theory about the crime that has occurred. Will she ever convince him or does she have it all wrong? You will have to read it to find out.
I enjoyed this fun book, and the ending left me excited about book two in the series. I recommend this book to those who enjoy a good mystery and entertaining characters.
I gave this book no stars. It certainly didn't warrant any. I could not get past the beginning with her working in the restaurant. Perhaps reading about about a ditzy, air-headed woman who, if she had half a brain, could qualify as a full fledged moron is your cup of tea, this is the book to read. It certainly isn't mine, so I simply deleted it and gave my sensibilities a rest. Hollering orders into the kitchen so everyone (including the patron) can hear is unconscionable and sitting on the counters in the kitchen where food is prepared may be done by complete idiots, but never by anyone who has even a partial brain. And then going on to think that her actions have warranted a promotion. This woman is beyond anything I could possibly say about her. There are no words. This is one author that will never have to worry abort me ever giving her a bad review ever again, as I would not touch any of her offerings with a ten foot pole.
This is not my normal genre but love the author's work and this has not disappointed me at all. I found myself laughing quietly and there are parts that really make you smile, it shows how the friendships and loyalties grow in the scenarios that arise. Liberty loves designer labels especially shoes and works as a junior manager at a London hotel but when the boss tells them all that there has been a theft from his office everyone is under scrutiny. Libby goes detective noticing certain things but on top of the theft she was cheated on by her boyfriend with another member of the staff Detective Sergeant James Harper is undercover at the hotel as a customer in the restaurant and is observing all the staff. There are many plot twists and surprises that you really do need to get this to find out.......... great read.
Best Foot Forward (The Liberty Lawrence Series Book 1) By Bea Stevens 5 stars
I am a huge fan of romantic comedy chick lit books and I absolutely adored this story! It made me laugh and it made me swoon – something for me every book in this genre should do (in my opinion!!) I loved the author’s writing style, it was really relaxed and I thought the story had a lovely flow to it. The author has penned an amazing debut novel! I loved Liberty – she was such a joy to read about – and I will admit the fact she loves shoes so meant I could live my love for shoes through her! I also may have had a little crush on Detective Harper!! *swoon* I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Anybody who loves a good, well written, chick-lit story should absolutely one click Best Foot Forward today!!
In dark times, one felt the need to turn to a rom-com for something lighter. And this book did not disappoint. Reminiscent of Sophie Kinsella and similar authors, Best Foot Forward is light-hearted and witty.
I had mixed feelings about Liberty, the heroine. She's quite judgemental and has an odd perception that she is due a promotion - this despite her clumsiness and lacklustre attitude towards her job. But it's not her fault. She's young, ambitious and has a mean boss. And accidents will happen.
You know what, though? She's endearing too. Her heart's in the right place and she proves herself worthy of our interest as the book goes on. She's very thoughtful and caring.
Misunderstandings, accidents, theft, a puppy and designer shoes - these things combine in a delightful story which is a funny sleuthing romp. It's a definite must read for fans of rom-coms.
Best Foot Forward (The Liberty Lawrence Series Book 1) by Bea Stevens
5-stars
Best Foot Forward is the first book in the Liberty Lawrence series, this is a book I couldn’t wait to dive into, and dive in I did! Once I started reading I couldn’t stop! From the very beginning I was hooked! Libby’s character is one of my all-time favorites, she’s like a breath of fresh air with her sassy, inquisitive and optimistic personality, she never fails to have me laughing!
I love how Bea Stevens always manages to keep me engaged and entertained the whole way through with the many twist and turns throughout the storyline. She is an author I will always recommend as she’s truly one of my favorites! This is a series that should not be missed!
I read book 2 before book 1 and even knowing how delightfully quirky Liberty is, it was like reading her for the first time. There is just something about her that makes me want to be her friend.
BEST FOOT FORWARD is a quick and funny read with a bit of mystery, a bit of delusional thinking and a lot of humor. The characters are fully developed, the settings are well described and the story flows smoothly from beginning to end.
I'm struggling with not giving this book 5 stars, but there is just something about it. Maybe it's that my new bestie is so quirky that I want to dig a bit deeper into what makes her tick. I'm not sure. (It could also be the mood I'm in today)
Best Foot Forward is the first in the Liberty Lawrence series by Bea Stevens. This was such a light - hearted, fun, enchanting, perfect binge read for the weekend book. I was completely captivated from the get go and was so excited to jump into book 2 next.
Liberty has to be one of my favorite Heroine's. She loves her fashion but she has a clumsy side that us so easy to fall in love with. She is the junior manager at a London hotel where her boss's office has had a theft. She's quite positive she knows who it is but the hot as all get out detective doesn't really care what she has to say about it.
There was not one thing I didn't love about this book. Miss Stevens did a beautiful job setting up the building blocks for this series and I'm dying for more!
Best Foot Forward by Bea Stevens is the The Liberty Lawrence Series . Liberty aka Libby is a fun, fashionista who works in a hotel. What happens when there is a theft and she has a possible suspect in mind? In steps a handsome officer working the case that she finds herself being attracted to more and more. This is a cute, lighthearted story. If you are label conscious you will find that you are familiar with the brands that she is mentioning. Despite that I find Libby to be a fun character. This story made me laugh which I really enjoyed. There are some silly escapades but I grew to care about what would happen with Libby. Also, when I finished the book I was already wanting to jump to the next book.
I laughed out loud at some of the scenes in this story, and being extremely accident prone (clumsy) myself, I could totally identify with Libby. I found the chapters describing her workmates so brilliantly written. For anyone who has worked in the hospitality industry I'm sure you will recognise some of your past colleagues in a few of those characters. I certainly did. I can't wait to discover how the new job works out for her in book two, and I hope we get to see so much more of the delicious Detective Harper. Despite whatever mayhem that surrounds her in the the rest of the series, I'm sure that Libby will approach it in style with her ridiculously expensive designer heels.
Best Foot Forward is the first book of Liberty Lawrence series by Bea Stevens. This is my first book from this author. Her characters are witty and full of spunk. This series is going to be one of the series that will keep you reading because it is a fun easy read. Liberty or Libby is someone I can see being friends. Her outgoing innocence is too funny. She comes up with her own suspicions that could have happens. She tells the Detective Sergeant James Harper her view of the crime. She is so believable that Detective Sergeant James believes she is the thief. Keep reading to see what Libby going to do-will she be able to shed some light on the case or will she fail?
