Operation Santa

Their letters melted her heart . . .

It’s 1912 and for the last 10 years Edith Hilton has been climbing her way up the ladder in a man’s world—she’s the only female manager at the New York branch of the United States Post Office. Efficient, all-business, and prickly to boot, she is not liked by her colleagues. Even her family has problems with her. When she uncovers illegal activity by one of her colleagues, she’s suddenly transferred to one of the Post Office’s most remote locations deep in West Virginia’s Appalachian Mountains.

Shocked by the culture, the outhouses, and the ill-mannered, boorish man who runs the town’s General Store where her post office is located, Edith is sure she’s been sent to hell. But the most unexpected thing happens as she becomes part of this simple rural mountain community. Edith discovers the joy of helping others and the wonder of true love.

As Christmas approaches, letters to Santa from the children of the community start arriving at Edith’s Post Office. Letters from children who have never had their prayers answered. Edith embarks on a mission, “Operation Santa,” to provide Christmas gifts in answer to the kids’ letters. Inspired by the actual Operation Santa, which began in 1912 by the United States Post Office and continues to this very day, this is a heart-warming story about the magic of opening your heart and giving to those in need.
