The Boss' Girl

Rate this book
I found my angel but she had broken her wings.

I knew from the first time I looked at her that Megan didn’t belong in my world.

Sold to repay a debt to my cousin, she belonged to him.

A doll in his doll house for his clients to play with.

Men like us break the innocence.

The darkness rips them apart.

Women are a weakness I can’t afford.

Yet, when I see her I want her.
I’m Dante Marchesi, the boss of the family.

What I say goes.

If I want her, I’ll have her, no matter the cost.

The question is: what will happen when I want more than just her body?

What if I want everything?

What if I want her to choose me too?

Will she?

2.5 - 3 smut-scale stars!

Megan is taken and forced to be a sex slave to repay her father's debt. She lives in hell...used, beaten and forced. Her soul is withering away and soon all that will be left is a hollow husk. She had dreams and aspirations at her finger tips and now they seem lost.

Dante Marchesi is the head of a criminal empire and his cousin owns the trafficking club that Dante turns a blind eye to. Until he runs into Megan. She captivates him and after one night with her, he realizes she is the missing piece to his life. Can Dante convince her he is worthy? Can Megan be happy again?

This was kind of sad and dealt with some heavy material for such a short story. It was smutty but after what Megan has endured, it was so far from realistic how her body and mind for that matter is like "o hey Dante, I've been raped and beaten but you turn me on. Please f*ck me." There was some definite character development missing but I blame the page count on that. I guess you just have to take this book for what it is...an instalove novella with very little plot and character development, a heavy dose of steam, some definite triggering elements for some and a HEA.

*** Book Q & A***

* How did the book make you feel?: It was hard not to feel
heartbroken over the h’s predicament.
* How do you feel about how the story was told?:It was a quick read novella. It could have been longer.
* What did you think about the main characters?: They were both likable. The h is sold by her father to pay a debt and is a sex slave, which is unimaginably horrible. You feel her hopelessness. I was disappointed in the H for abandoning her, but at least he realizes the error of his ways.
* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: There is a good amount of chemistry between the main characters.
* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?: Instalove, sex slave, mafia romance
* What did you think about the ending?: I was happy she got out of there and got a HEA.
* What is your impression of the author?: I think this author does a great job with dark themes.

Triggers: rape, human trafficking, violence

2.5 Stars - Very dark read with Triggers

Every once in a while, I dip my toe out of my reading comfort zone and give dark romances a chance. This year I picked up The Boss’ Girl and after reading the blurb, I went in bracing myself but also optimistic. Long story short, this one was too dark for me.

Ten lashes for my insolence and ten more for my disobedience. Disobedience for trying to escape the madman who came into my home like a thief in the night and took me as payment for the money my father owed. Sold.

Three months ago, Megan got sold to a mobster and now lives in his brothel/club called Dollhouse. She’s experienced every horrible thing you imagine when you hear sex trafficking. She’s about to give up hope when Dante lays eyes on her for the first time.

Dante is the head of the mob and he’s as rough and cold as a mob boss can be. He’s never let his guard down or ever let a woman close enough to reveal his secrets. Until he spies Megan and suddenly he’s ready to fight her battles and craving to be her everything.

What I liked/loved about it:
Megan was a resilient character and although she suffers a lot, she manages to hold on to hope and even retains some of her sassy attitude. I definitely felt for her and her struggle to want to be seen and distance herself from being just an object to be used and abused.

Dante was also a complex character. He is a mob boss, so it’s a given he’s a cold-blooded killer and his view of life is skewed but when it comes to Megan, I liked that he felt something special for her. She was never a faceless body to him. After he rescues her, he gives her the time, the space and the opportunity to heal from what happened and was willing to wait until she was ready to accept him, flaws and all.

What I didn't like/hated about it:
I wanted Dante to bust in that very first day and take her away from the Dollhouse immediately. The fact that he doesn’t save her from Luca (instead visiting her several times but never questioning what happens when he’s gone or wondering how their weird arrangement might affect her) was something I couldn’t easily forgive. I get it was used as a plot device to drive him to action, but I’m used to instant connections and the fact that he ignores her plight seemed mind boggling to me.

I love anti-heroes and morally gray characters but I need them to draw the line somewhere and any type of abuse towards women, is a must. Dante doesn’t draw that line until after he meets Megan and even than it takes a while to wise up to what he needs to do about it.

Would I recommend? The dark subject matter is definitely not something I can handle for long. I got through it but I desperately needed a cleansing read right after.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

*SPOILERS*
The overall story was ok but, although ultimately he rescued her, I had issues with Dante using Megan when she was enslaved - as far as i was concerned, sex with an enslaved prostitute is non consensual and it tarnished his halo as far as I was concerned.

This interesting, twisted dark mafia romance is certainly an attention grabber. The plot is well-paced but is quite emotional & heart-wrenching to read at times. The characters are rather complex individuals & one of them (a mob boss, Dante Marchesi) is actually not a very nice person but he does redeem himself further on in the story, while female character (Megan Carson) is trying to adjust in a very cruel & unfamiliar world.
There is: a despicable father, a cruel brothel owner (Lucca Marchesi), mafia, drama, intrigue, suspense, deceit, betrayal, violence, conflict, anguish, punishments, beatings, brutality, non-consensual scenes, sexual torture/abuse but strangely enough, there is promises, compromises, happiness & love with a satisfying conclusion.

Megan had her future planned out and then she was sold by her father to Lucca, who owns a brothel. Dante is the head of his mafia family and when he sees Megan, he wants her. Will he take her away from the horrible life she is living? Fast-paced read with loads of intense chemistry and emotion. Great characters with lots of depth and steam. I loved it!

First of all.. didn’t know it was a novella... second of all just why does it exist? like the development was not there, the character motivation was subpar and the smut scenes are eh. Like if your going for a steamy novella you better deliver.

Anyways I do like Faith Summer’s other books so it’s not like I hate this author.

She is a caged songbird....but will she find her freedom

The Boss' Girl is the story of Megan Carson and Dante Marchesi. This story definitely has moments that are dark and disturbing and other moments that are joyous and full of hope. Be warned that there are possible triggers in this story so if you are not able to handle things like forced prostitution, violence, physical assault and others then do not get this book. But if you decide to pick it up then be prepared for a ride.
Megan is in her early twenties and has just gotten a singing part in a play in Chicago. Her dream has always been to sing on Broadway and this is her first step to that goal. But there are other forces at play when her father ends up not being able to pay a debt he owes, as he has alcohol and gambling addictions. The night that he offer came in for the musical she went to bed and the next morning woke up in the "Dollhouse". It is now three months later and she is still fighting to get free and to deal with what has happened to her.
Dante is the Boss of the Marchesi family which is based out of Chicago. At thirty-eight he has been running the family for a few years after taking it over from his father. Just before his father died he made him promise to look after his cousin Lucca, just as he had promised Lucca's father when he took a bullet to save him. Lucca and Dante are very much opposites with Lucca always causing problems and Dante have to fix things.
Dante has just returned from Italy and has shown up to talk with Lucca as once again something has happened. When he gets there a young woman runs into him. She stirs something in him but he is not sure what. All he recognizes is that she does not belong in the Dollhouse. When Megan runs into Dante as she is exiting the elevator onto the VIP floor she does not know who he is but something in her stirs. It is desire but she is not supposed to have those feelings in this place with everything that happens here. To deal with Lucca's issue Dante decides he wants Megan for the night, just for coming to talk to him. His final payment he will decide upon when things have been fixed. Both Megan and Dante embark on something different for each of them over the next couple of nights. But will Dante be Megan's savior or will he discard her when he is finished just like all the other men who come to the Dollhouse? Will Dante acknowledge what he really feels for Megan before it is too late? Will Megan ever sing again or will she stay a caged songbird forever?

This story is well written and has both a fast-paced and deep story-line. I felt for Megan, wanted to shake Dante and see Lucca die a horrible death while I was reading. There was some romance but this is not a "romantic" story with hearts and flowers. This story is dark, gritty, twisted and more.

Ms. Summers takes us down a dark twisted path in her latest book The Boss Girl. Megan had her life all planned out working on the promise she made to her dying mom to sing on Broadway. She had just got the lead part in play when she was kidnapped by the ruthless tyrant Lucca Marchesi. Megan was sold by her father to Lucca to cover his debt.
She was use as a sex slave in his brothel for his high end clientele, anything goes with these clients. Some of them was into torture, whipping and pure brutality. Megan would try escaping constantly because of the treatment from these clients, and Lucca would punish harshly. One day the boss Dante Marchesi came to the brothel and the two collided into each other and he was mesmerized.
Although she had been through some horrible things at the brothel, there was something about Dante that captivate her when she look at him. Dante tells Lucca that he wants a night with her as his payment for helping him out with his problem. However, one turns into several nights. He treated her different from the others, like person instead of a whore. It was senual, voluptuous, heat, prolong stamina of both.
Dante is not a good man but being with Megan makes him a better man, because he started to feel feelings that he never felt before like love. The more time that they spend with each other, Megan started to hope that her situation would change and that Dante would save her from the hell that she was living. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was filled with violence, action, torture and a wonderful HEA. This book may cause triggers some due to the content.

Dante comes to Megan's rescue!
by sewsummore

Megan was taken as payment for her father's gambling debt, sold as a sex slave to the tyrant Lucca Marchesi. When she tried to escape, she was beaten and lashed. The next time, he would kill her! Dante Marchesi was the head of the family. He had come to bail out his cousin once again when he made the mistake of killing the wrong man. After meeting Megan, Dante demanded her services for the night. Megan was fearful of the night ahead. She did not need to be, Dante was not like his cousin, and he was not going to hurt her. When he discovers the scars from her whipping, he calms her and igniting a passion deep within her she had thought she had lost forever. This book was a short, intense story of passion and desire. Dante was not a man who craved pain to enjoy sex. her scars sickened him, and now that he had a taste of her, he wanted more. When Dante returned from completing his mission, he discovers her beaten and bleeding and takes his revenge on the men responsible. This is not the end of their story, but you will have to read the book to learn what happens next. Even though this was a short book, it packed quite a punch. Dante had not become the head of the family without it changing him. While he disliked how his cousin ran his business, it was not up to him to object. Meeting Megan changed him in ways he never expected, but Megan felt for Megan beyond what he had ever felt before. After spending three months as a sex slave, Megan thought she was broken and never felt attracted to a man again. Dante was the man who healed the pain in her heart and made her love again.

While this is only a short read there is a lot of dark romance packed into the pages. Like all Faith's books you are engaged from the first page and you won't want to put it down

Megan is finally starting to achieve the life that she wanted she promised her mother that she would work hard to sing on Broadway and she has just won her first part there but she is kidnapped after her father sells her to cover his gambling debts to Lucca Marchesi he intends to put her to work in his extremely selective brothel with only a very select clientele. Dante Marchesi is the local Mafia Don and when he sees Megan he wants her luckily Lucca owes him so he gets to demand a night of her exclusive As they spend time together Dante realises she doesn't belong there He soon decides he wants her but will he be able to take her from the horror her life has become and can a ruthless man like him really learn to love You will have to read to see

I received a free ARC copy in exchange for my honest review. This is my own opinion and was not influenced by anyone.

The Boss's Girl is a dark mafia story by Faith Summers. The life Megan Carson is being forced to lead is rough. She is such a strong woman who is on the verge of breaking. Dante Marchesi is the Boss of the family. He has kept his heart hard and dark in order to protect himself.

The relationship that develops between Megan and Dante is unconventional due to their roles but the way it is written, it is believable that these two damaged souls can start to heal each other. Dante sweeps in to save Megan and he ends up finding himself through loving her.

The theme within this book is dark and may disturb some so read the book description carefully. It is a quick read but it does end upbeat on a happily ever after.

I like mafia romances, and I had never read this author before. I was happy with the story, although some of Dante's actions definitely reminded us he was one of the bad guys, even if he was Megan's good guy. The fact that he had her sent up to him to have sex with him even though she couldn't say no was shady (although a standard trope of these stories, so I'm not mad), and I was glad he shut down the use of the "collected debt" girls, although he could have done it earlier since he didn't agree with it and he was the boss. However, he did save Megan (again, although he could have and should have sooner when he found out she was brutally whipped. Honestly, he should have just killed whatshisface).
I'll definitely read this author again.

Short read with instant attraction between Megan and Dante and the growing emotions and relationship between them. Megan was taken to pay for her fathers debt and is forced to service men and be a prostitute for Luca Marchesi, however the karma when Dante, who happens to be the head of the Marchesi family steps up and deals with the situation was definitely a hero moment.

This book has some dark moments and has triggers such as kidnapping, rape and assault so sensitive readers should consider avoiding the book.

Emotional read

I really enjoyed this story between Megan and Dante. It was an unsuspecting beautiful love story. This is definitely dark and not easy to read but it turns out happy in the end. The only reason I gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5 was because of the length. I really wanted more or the promise that this story is intertwine with other books. I feel like there's more to tell between these two.
This is the first time I have read from this author and I will definitely be reading more.

This dark romance isn't for everyone, but if you like dark romance, this story will grab your interest and keep you reading, anxious to find out what will happen next. The characters are interesting and the story moves along at a fast pace. This is a short story, so character depth is lacking somewhat. I deducted two stars because I felt like the hero should have done things differently after meeting the heroine but the story was still enjoyable.

This is a very short little dark romance novella and if you're thinking to read this, please heed the trigger warnings. It is dark and depressing, but it does have a HEA.

Main character has been kidnapped from her life as payment for her father's debts and is being trafficked in a brothel owned by the mafia until one day the mafia boss man turns up and takes her for the night...

I really liked this story and the characters. Megan made my heart hurt and while Dante was not a good man, I loved who he was with Megan. This read was very emotional and I was totally into this couple. My one negative thought was that I wish it had been longer. I would have loved to spend more time with these two and delve much deeper into their relationship and romance. This is my frank, freely posted review.

The Boss's Girl is a short story filled with lies, betrayal, abuse and steamy scenes.
Lucca takes daughters as payment for debts that are owed. The daughters work in his brothel.
Megan's dream was to sing on Broadway but her dream is taken from her.
Dante is the mob boss. Visiting Lucca he sees Megan and is memerized.

This was a short read for me. I normally like to read longer books, but I did enjoy this story. I was expecting it to be darker than it was. Yes there was violence and some talk of rape, but the majority of the story was about the instant connection that Dante and Megan felt when she bumped into him. Megan definitely wasn’t enjoying herself working under Lucca until Dante came along and changed everything.

Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. Wow I am absolutely in love with this book, once I started to read this story I was in a state of euphoria. I had to read the book again, if you like the bad boy mafia families then this is for you. It had darkness, eroticism, action and the emotions when you have a weakness for the pretty women.

A deliciously dark short read that has numerous triggers in it. This is a plot that flows nicely and shows the unsavory side of owing the Mafia. Megan and Dante are from different worlds but when they collide there is no stopping their connection and pull towards each other. I really wished this was a longer book as it would be delightful to read more about these characters.
