Rejoinder to Maine Gandhi Ko Kyon Mara of Gopal Godse. During the trial for the murder of Mahatma Gandhi, his murderer, Nathuram, was allowed to speak at length to give his reasons for killing the Mahatma. To justify his heinous act, Nathuram spoke lie after lie in that speech. The reasons given by him are analyses in this book and each of his lies is exposed.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part introduces the team of killers and their background.
Second part deals with the motivation of the killers, their preparations, and then the execution. While maintaining historical accuracy this part details the unwavering principles and convictions of the Mahatma and the reasons for his being treated as an enemy by the right wing Hindu groups as well as right wing Muslim groups. This similarities between the ideologies and methods of Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League are also underlined here.
The last part deals with the issues raised by Nathuram in the trial and each of his lie is systematically exposed.
There are very few books in Hindi on this subject. The exhaustive references make it an authoritative book of history.
The last word: this is a history book written in a very lucid style. It keeps the reader engaged from page one to the very end.

About the author

Ashok is a well known hindi poet and writer. With "Kashmirnama : Itihas aur Samkal" and "Kashmir aur Kashmiri Pandits" he has emerged as an expert of Kashmir's history and present.

This book is a severe blow for the alumni of Whatsapp university and is written around the conspiracy of the assassination of Gandhi. It blow by blow shatters the false narrative and propaganda about freedom fighters, be it be Gandhi or Nehru. I have previously read “Kashmirnama” by the author, where he has eloquently narrated the history of Kashmir and how it reached its current state. He maintains the same standard of authenticity in this book as well. He doesn’t just fabricate the things out of thin air but provides bona fide sources behind the mentioned facts. To be precise, he has mentioned around 70 books and over 300 references including on-record speeches, letters, biographies, etc. The author only talks about truth.

The book is divided into three sections. First Section talks about the life of Godse, Narayan Apte, Karkare, Madanlal Pahwa, Savarkar, and others who were charged for conspiracy and killing of Gandhi.
The second section explains the chronology of the murder - How several attempts were made to kill him even before 30-Jan, How the plan to kill him was executed step by step. Then he talks about the life and morals of Gandhi in brief. The last chapter is about the court case and Kapoor committee.
The third section is mainly to burst the fake news being spread out throughout the country for showing Godse as a hero while Gandhi-Nehru as culprits.
The author raises and answers significant questions like - Gandhi had disagreements with communists and Muslim radicals too. Then why was it that the gun of right-wing ideologists was always pointed towards Gandhi rather than Britishers? In one of the chapters, he refers to a speech by Savarkar where he claimed that Hindu and Muslim are already two nations, so he had no disagreement in the matter of partition.

The content of the book is very logically placed. Writing is simple and impressive. The tone is pretty aggressive as if the author is screaming to tell the truth to cyber trolls. You can get an idea by looking at the title of some of the chapters:
• Tumne Adalat me Jhooth bole Godse
• Gandhi nahi the Vibhajan ke Zimmedar
• Bhagat Singh ka naam lete Sharm aani Chahiye Tumhe
• Tum Krantikaari nahi Kayar the Godse.

If the aggressive tone could have been mellowed down, it might have looked like neutral writing. Anyhow, it may be intentional for the right Impact.

In the end, my huge respect to the author for showing courage to go against the flow and to come up with an account of actual conspiracy. I recommend majorly all children to read this book so that they know the truth of partition and independence from legitimate sources rather than learning it from Whatsapp and fake websites. Group belonging to different ideologies can tag it as an attempt to polish the images of Gandhi but when the author is backed up with such a huge list of references, one can only blame, can’t debate or defeat him.

किसी के प्रति मन में द्वेष रखकर कोई दस्तावेज़ लिखा जाए तो उसे साहित्य की श्रेणी में ही रखना उचित होगा, उसे ऐतिहासिक दस्तावेज कहना भूल होगी। विचार स्वतंत्र होते हैं, पर स्वतंत्र विचारों को केवल साहित्य में ही स्थान प्राप्त हो सकता है। आप यदि इतिहास लिखने बैठे हैं तो आपको अपने विचारों को शांत रखकर उस समय के उस स्थान और व्यक्ति के विचारों को ही अपने दस्तावेज़ में स्थान देना होता है।

प्रस्तुत पुस्तक में लेखक अमर्यादित होते हुए सावरकर के प्रति अपने द्वेष को प्रदर्शित कर रहे हैं। उनका द्वेष केवल सावरकर और नथुराम तक ही सीमित नहीं रहता वल्कि वे पूरे ब्राह्मण समाज को उस द्वेष में जोड़ लेते हैं। जिस प्रकार वो चित्तपावन ब्राह्मणों को बालगंगाधर तिलक से लेकर भगवान परशुराम तक जोड़ते हैं, वह उनके मानसिक असंतोष को ही प्रदर्शित करता है।

प्रमाण जुटाने का कार्य उन्होंने इस पुस्तक के लिए किया है पर वह पूरी तरह से एक तरफा है। गांधी जी की हत्या में आप नथुराम को फांसी देने को उचित ठहरा सकते हो, वह हत्यारा था तो उसे फांसी होनी ही चाहिए। पर आप नथुराम का धर्म और उसके ब्राह्मण होने को जिस तरह दिखाने का प्रयास करते पाए जाते हैं, वह आपके विचार है जिन्हें आप इतिहास के साथ घोलना चाहते हैं।

मार्क्सवाद का सिद्धांत जिसमें वह धर्म को अफ़ीम कहता है, उसे स्थापित करने का प्रयास करते हैं आप। सरदार भगतसिंह के समाजवादी विचारों को बढ़ा बढ़ाकर दिखाने का प्रयास करते हैं, और उन्हें मार्क्स और लेनिन के समीप बताने की कोशिश भी करते हैं। आप जिन्ना के डायरेक्ट एक्शन डे में हत्याओं का आंकड़ा बताते हैं, वह आंकड़ा आप कहां से लाए हैं, उसकी जानकारी प्राप्त नहीं होती। इसमें भी आप एक तरफ़ के आंकड़ों को दबाने के लिए दूसरी तरफ़ के मृतकों की संख्या को बार बार दोहराते पाए जाते हैं। आप ये स्थापित करना चाहते हैं की इस पक्ष की हत्या अधिक संख्या में हुई है।

इसे इतिहासिक दस्तावेज़ बताकर आप अपने पाठकों पर अपने विचारों को थोपना चाहते हैं। इसलिए मैं इस पुस्तक को केवल नफ़रत की कलम से लिखा विचारों का थोथा ही कहूंगा।

यह एक संयोग ही है कि आज गाँधी जयंती के दिन मैने इस पुस्तक को पूर्ण रूप से पढ़ लिया।आज के समय मे जब महात्मा गाँधी के विरोध मे कुतर्क देकर गोडसे को हीरो बनाना 'फैशन' बन चुका है,इस प्रकार की एक पुस्तक ,जो उपलब्ध दस्तावेज़ो के आधार पर लिखी गई हो,सोशल मिडिया के दौर मे एक ताज़ा हवा का झौंका है।इस पुस्तक के अंश विद्यालयों के पाठ्यक्रम मे शामिल किया जाना चाहिए ।व्यक्तिगत रूप से मै इस पुस्तक से इतना प्रभावित हुआ कि मैने गोडसे की 'पुस्तक' का पुनः मुल्यांकन किया । इस सब के अतिरिक्त यह भी स्पष्ट है कि गांधीवाद मे लेखक इतना डूब गए कि लेखन मे कुछ त्रुटियाँ कर गए जैसे गाँधी भी एक इंसान ही थे। उनके जीवन के कुछ बुरे या अटपटे निर्णयो पर प्रश्न चिह्न न लगाना उचित नही है;वह भी तब जब आप भगत सिंह या बोस या पटेल पर प्रश्न चिन्ह लगा रहे हैं।
अंत मे मेरा निष्कर्ष यही है कि यह पुस्तक आज के समय पढ़ना आवश्यक है ताकि गोडसे का घटियापन सामने आ सके।

The book has nothing new to tell nor is the style or narration really quite absorbing. So to a reader familiar with this subject, it doesn't offer much but that exactly is the reason why it's getting so much popularity - a lot of people in India are unfamiliar with the nuanced history of Gandhi's assassination especially in vernacular language.

यह पुस्तक अशोक कुमार पांडेय के द्वारा अपने अनोखे स्टाइल में लिखा इतिहास है, वह इतिहास जो समीचीन है। गांधी जो भी थे, राजनीति के महात्मा थे। गांधी की वजह से पूरे विश्व में भारत को जाना जाता है। बीसवीं सदी का बड़े से बड़ा विचारक गांधी में विश्व की समस्याओं का हल देखता था, उनसे प्रेरणा पाता था। क्या वजह है कि वृद्ध गांधी को गोलियों से छलनी कर दिया गया था?

“मैंने गांधी वध क्यूँ किया” जैसी पुस्तक का जवाब है अशोक कुमार पांडेय की यह पुस्तक। उन्होंने अपनी मौलिक भाषा में उपलब्ध दस्तावेजों और तत्कालीन और समकालीन पुस्तकों के आधार पर उस दौर की संक्षिप्त पड़ताल की है। आपको लेखक के विचारों के साथ साथ उस युग के ध्रुवतारों के दर्शन भी होते हैं जिन्होंने देश की दिशा निर्धारित की। ग़लत या सही यह बाद की बात है, सबसे पहले यह एक वास्तविक तथ्य है कि भारत का स्वतंत्रता संग्राम बीसवीं सदी की बड़ी दार्शनिक उथल पुथल और खूनी संघर्षों के बीच में घटने वाली सबसे अनूठी गाथा थी। जिसके नायक को एक नथूराम ने मार डाला। वह वजह क्या है, और उस वजह की सार्थकता क्या थी, इसकी पड़ताल हरेक भारतवासी को करना ही चाहिये। बिना इसकी पड़ताल के आपको अपने विचारों की धारा की दिशा का बोध सहज न होगा, ऐसा मेरा मत है।

इस पुस्तक में आपको मौलिकता के साथ साथ प्रवाह भी मिलता है। एक सार्थक लय पाठक को शुरू से अंत तक एक कथा के विभिन्न पहलुओं से परिचित करवाती चलती जाती है। आप थोड़ी देर ठहरकर उन स्रोतों की पड़ताल भी कर सकते हैं जिनका आधार इस पुस्तक ने लिया है। यह बहुत ही स्पष्ट है कि कहाँ लेखक ने अपने विचार रखे हैं और कहाँ इतिहास अपने रास्ते चल रहा है। यह एक जिज्ञासु पाठक को उन गहरे गह्वरों की सैर कराती है जहाँ उसे अंधकार और प्रकाश के परिचय से महरूम करने की हर कोशिश की जाती है। पुस्तक का मुख पृष्ठ ख़ुद में बड़ी सिद्धहस्तता से यह दिखला देता है कि गांधी के मृत शरीर के पास बैठे लोग शोकाकुल हैं, और नीचे अदालत में कटघरे में बैठे अपराधी दुष्टता से ठहाके लगा रहे हैं और इन दोनों दृश्यों को एक भगवा पट्टी जोड़ रही है!

The title of the book should have been 'Usne Gandhi ko Kaise Maara'. Right in the first chapter, the author has stated, all in but one line, that the murder of Gandhi was because of an ideological dispute. The rest of the book is a deep-diving into the life of Gandhi... From the first attack that he survived to the number of people whom he changed in the process to his final moments. Additionally, there is a detailed description of the entire process of procurement of weapons to the failed attempts made by the assassinators, until their final execution as well as the verdicts of the Ref Fort Hearing. Honestly, there is absolutely nothing new in the book that I wouldn't have gotten from the Kapoor Committee reports or a plain Google search. There is neither any perspective nor any hint of controversy that the title promises. Except for a few here and there blaming the police and the then Maharastra government, the book has not a single thing that would point towards a revelation or conspiracy theory. There is nothing I am taking from this book and it is a first. It is unnecessarily lengthy and at best, is for readers who are die-hard Gandhians or want to explore the Gandhian philosophy.

An eyeopner for all the graduates of WhatsApp University, who claims to know everything. For all the people who starts blaming Mahatma Gandhi, as soon as they hear the name, for the death sentence of Bhagat Singh, for the partition, and many other such things. People who glorify Vinayak Damaodar Savarkar, Nathuram Godse, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and likes should spare some time to read this book and understand these so-called 'Patriots' and 'Nationalists' and their contribution in India's freedom movement.
The book also throws light on Mahatma Gandhi's relationship with Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru,Subhash Chandra Bose,Sardar Patel and other freedom fighters.
This book, written in a very smooth language is a good start for the people who have never bothered to read/know Mahatma or his ideologies. All in all a good book to have s brush with history along with references and documents to prove the point.
Recommended for everyone who can read and understand Hindustani.

I read the Marathi translation. And there are many other books on this topic i.e. why nathuram killed gandhi? e.g. books by jagan phadnis, y d phadke. And I must say this book is at par with any reference book on this topic. It dissects out the claims by the propagandists of Godse and explains to you the real reasons of the murder of Mahatma.
