The murder of a cop—a decade old. A stripper with a secret. A cop whose marriage hangs by a thread investigating both. What could go wrong?
LAPD Officer Roy Buckner struggles with a new assignment in the Robbery-Homicide Division Cold-Case Unit, while stepping up as mom and dad to his toddler son.
Roy’s wife, Amber, just graduated from the LAPD academy and her troubled probationary period leaves her with little time to be concerned about her homelife or marriage—which is hanging by a thread.
As Roy and his new female partner search for clues to a cold-case cop killing, things heat up as they uncover an old trail of deadly secrets, while battling their own individual pain.
Meanwhile, Amber’s first big arrest results in a whole new mystery and investigation centered around a stripper’s shame. As the decade-old case unravels, the shocking revelations may end everyone’s career—if not their lives.
Kathy Bennett is no stranger to murder and mayhem. After twenty-one years as a Los Angeles police officer, this retired cop’s authentic crime experience result in arresting stories.
As a police officer, most of Kathy’s career was spent working patrol in a black and white police car. Prior to retirement, Kathy was assigned as a Senior Lead Officer. Kathy also served as a Firearms Instructor at the LAPD Police Academy, a crime analyst in the ‘War Room’, a Field Training Officer, and worked undercover in various assignments. She was named Officer of the Quarter twice, and Officer of the Year once.
In 2011, Kathy her debut novel, A Dozen Deadly Roses was released. The e-book climbed the charts becoming a bestseller at both Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
In 2012, Kathy's second full-length suspense novel, A Deadly Blessing was released. That book is the first in the series featuring LAPD Detective Maddie Divine. A Deadly Blessing also became a bestseller at Amazon and Barnes and Noble who chose the book as a Best Nook Book for 2012.
Kathy's third book, A Deadly Justice released in the fall of 2013 and is climbing the charts. She is currently working on her next book.
Another great book by Kathy Bennet, easy read with good flow. Arrived just in time for me to get some reading in about other people’s drama. Keep up the good work my dear👍
Damaged Goods by Kathy Bennett. There's no doubt, Bennett knows how to deliver.
I am an avid reader. I read all genres. After 31 yrs as a police officer in Southern California (The Los Angeles area), I especially enjoy police procedural thrillers, both fiction and non-fiction. I happened to discover Kathy Bennett several years ago while surfing Amazon for a new book I discovered Bennett was an author that once worn the badge and can write and exciting novel. I since followed Bennett and read all of her books. Damaged Goods is the second book in the three book Buckner Trilogy series (book three will be released sometime during 2021). Damaged Good can be read as a standalone, however, Collateral Damage (book#1) is an excellent book you do not want to miss. Bennett is a gifted author that creates outstanding plots. Damaged Goods plot involves a cold case murder of a off duty LAPD officer. Damaged Goods has flawless pacing, fascinating characters and a plot woven together with seamless complexity. I enjoyed and appreciated the many subplots. Along the detailed investigation that came together for the white-knuckled, breathlessly-paced ending. If this ending does not get your heart beating and rapid breath, somebody better call for the paramedics. In closing, Damaged Goods is probably the best police procedural thriller that has been written this year. And you cannot beat the price for the fast and action packed thriller.
I just finished reading this book! One of Bennett's best books yet! This is the second book in the Buckner series and will keep you turning the pages! Roy Buckner takes a new position with in the LAPD when his wife Amber graduates the LAPD Academy and becomes a probationary officer herself. Roy is now with the Robbery Homicide Cold Case Department and chooses the case of Adam Lowe, an officer killed outside his home 10 years ago. Meanwhile, Amber catches a call where a stripper refuses to talk to her Training Officer. As the pages turn, the 2 cases begin to collide where secrets are uncovered and lives hang in the balance. Bennett's 27 years in the LAPD have lent a true feel and excitement to the book and keeps you reading until the end! I did receive an Advance Reader Copy with no obligation to post a review.
Damaged Goods by Kathy Bennett A probationary police officer is shot down in his own driveway. Three young police cadets are raped during a beach camp out. Roy Buckner is teamed up with a hurting single female detective to work cold cases and the case they select is a ten year old murder that hides secrets that puts their lives on the line. Sexual misadventures seem to be a way of life for some of the officers and trouble lurks around every corner. Damaged Goods brings the LAPD, the Los Angeles Police Department, to you with the authenticity only a retired 27 year veteran of the tough streets can. Procedures and investigations are presented like cases from the front page of the newspaper. Kathy Bennett’s latest police thriller will keep you turning the pages.
This is the second book in the Buckner series. In this one, Amber is now a police officer and has the bad luck of having the roughest training officer on the force who is very sexist. He is bound and determined NOT to let her pass her probationary time. Meanwhile, Roy is struggling with his new assignment...cold case. Plus he has a new partner who is also struggling. They decide to work on a cold case where a rookie cop that Roy trained was killed outside his home. Little do Roy and Amber know that this case and her new job will be tied together in a very dangerous way. How do you ask? You will need to read the book to find out. A very realistic story by a retired LAPD police officer. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Highly recommend it.
This is the second book I've read with the Buckner family. Amber is now a brand new police officer and her husband has been assigned to the cold case department. I totally enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
