This one was recommended to me by a friend who used to be in the Network Marketing Business; and since I had these notions and curiosity about the whole Pyramid schemes; so I went for it.
But moreover what compelled me to read is the captivating title; which sort of gives the impression that; this is going to be some sort of unveiling of the American Big Corporate and their role affecting the economy as a whole or in some part; direct or indirectly.

The initial chapters present you with some statistics and examples of Companies & Individuals which are thought provoking; in a way the author tries to convince the reader of the various things wrong with the system; which would eventually lead to/or has already led to the social citizens getting uprooted from the "GREAT" (that's the new buzz word in America; as I have been hearing in the recent times) way of living.
But what this basically implies in terms of facts and numbers is that the Jobs are not simple(in terms of being able to get one as per ones qualification & aspiration) anymore and the Pay hasn't rose significantly over the decades leading to stagnation in the economy as well; and the corporate in trying to lower cost have moved significant jobs to other nations - China, Mexico, India, ....

It's interesting till here; with the occasional pitches from the author about Network Marketing being a solution to all this. But Chapter 4 on wards it's just that; and the reader would seem like he is being convinced very hard on the benefits of it and how its the solution to everything.

This is my second book of Burke Hedges. My first book of his was "The parable of the pipeline." This book was one of the best business books which I have read so far, which encouraged me to follow this work.

This book "Who stole the American dream?" is a well researched book with my lot of insights into legal pyramids, illegal pyramids. How government made pyramids are running the economy? What are the pros and cons of these schemes? Every concept discussed is in detail and with enthralling examples.

Second part of the book discusses only about network marketing business. What can it provide you and how can it disrupt entire retail industry and how is it going become the paradigm of 21st century business.

My rating 5/5. Excellent one.

Perhaps the best book I have read, and I have read many recently, on how much better life was for most of us when we still had a Middle Class, and how, starting about 40 years ago, the 1% began to deliberately and methodically destroy the Middle Class and move literally trillions of dollars into their own pockets (or off-shore accounts). This was no act of nature. The book details the tactics used and shows how the end result was an almost complete lack of consumer demand (because the Middle Class has no money) and the Bush Depression. The Republican Party's statement that they intended to do nothing to help our Nation at the time of its greatest need, because their only goal was to beat Obama, is just the latest of such policies. Send the book to anyone you suspect is even thinking about not voting to re-elect President Obama AND a Democratic Congress. Four more years of trickle down (voo-doo) economics and Romney won't have to outsource; the American People will be his cheap labor, with no education, healthcare, retirement plans, or Unions with which to win them back

The book started by saying that your job isn't secure and can be ripped out from under you. Then he gives a solution called network marketing. Finally, the rest of the book is trying to justify why he thinks this way: one example was calling every company a pyramid scheme to justify why metwork marketing looks like a pyramid scheme. I didn't really like the book. It felt like a big recruitment ad for network marketing. It was at least well-structured. The main concern about this book is that it feels like it uses the fear of losing your job or your business failing to trick you into joining network marketing.

Why do we do what we do? Are we really progressing in right direction? Are we controlled by some thing or someone? If what we are doing is right then why everyone of us is not very happy and successful in life or your definition of happiness and success is diluted with the selfishness of others? This book is really answer to all these questions. Best book.

A clickbait title to hook readers into a marketing book. It is to be dismissed on the pyramid to sell a product. I thought that it's a book on the American Dream but it's not just a ploy to entice readers, hard selling a story. Avoid it!

if it walks like a duck, then it's probably a pyramid scheme. hey boys and girls, smart people leverage their assets and time to create passive income through the labor of subordinates!

this author needs a kick in the nuts

This revised edition is due for another update. I'd be interested to see if Burke Hedges comes out with version III to take what's happened the past 10 years into account. In addition to being dated, the writing itself not that good (one-sentence paragraphs, excessive use of all caps and italics, and opinion-based content that borders on sensationalism), but if you can get past this style, there are a few sections that I found helpful in describing what affiliate marketing is all about:

- Pyramid as a shape vs. pyramid as a scheme
- Legal vs. illegal pyramids
- How money is made in affiliate marketing
- 20 advantages of owning an affiliate marketing business

This book is good if you're looking for a quick read to understand the basics of affiliate marketing, but you'll need to be able to keep an open mind and look past the author's style to get into the meat of the book.

Being involved in a Network Marketing Company/Direct Sales (AdvoCare) I was expecting this book to help me grow my business. Instead it just shared what it can do for an individual, what Network Marketing can lead to for people who are not yet involved. Had I read this before I got involved with AdvoCare I may have rated it higher.

It's a bold book. It's asks pertinent questions that we should ask ourselves. If used correctly used it could act like a scalpel excising the cancerous thought that holds us back. It begs the question if our economy works for us and it doesn't gives an option of what we can do personally. Its a must read for those who are open minded and want to be finally independent. Happy reading!

An insight out to the world where one small section of society always new what is to be done to reap moolah, the tricky aspects that let a common man away from acquiring great wealth and the secrets to get it. Writing is inspired by a net-worker who knows how to give a best shot in its favorite stream, eventually with facts and figures examples brings great interest in the mind of a reader.

Very easy to read book that presents a no-hold barred, bare bones, in your face look at past business trends and what that means for the future. It's a book full of truth regarding today's business environment and both challenges and affirms the reader. Recommended.

A bit outdated but good for those unfamiliar with network marketing and why it is different. Goes over traditional business models, illegal business models and showcases direct marketing. The part about the lid on disclosure statements alone was a shift for me.

A quick read.

just like it says, the books your "boss" doesn't want you to read, but what if you don't have a boss in the first place? still read it though. focuses too much on making you believe network marketing is an awesome thing, that you suddenly start to doubt it. anyway, nice one.
