Doctor Smug

Rate this book
It's all fun and games until somebody falls in love.

Riley

As a surgical resident, my ego is beyond healthy.

So when Daisy, the stubborn and sexy matchmaker, challenges me during night trivia at the local pub, it's impossible for me to say no.

If I win--she owes me three epic dates where I pull out all the stops to woo her.

If she wins--no dates and I walk home naked.

It's the summer, what's an eight-block stroll home in my birthday suit?

Since she's already smitten with me, this is going to be a breeze.

How can I say no to a sure thing?

Daisy

Riley's sizzling looks are nothing compared to his arrogance. His god-complex eclipses his charm.

Forcing him to walk home naked is just too tempting to pass up.

It's just a friendly bet. But the stakes grow too high when fate keeps shoving him in my path.

I don't need my matchmaker test to prove that we're not meant to be, despite what he says.

My heart is still recovering from my last dating disaster. I find love for other people, not myself.

But I'll get him to take the test anyway. I'll show him that we're wrong for each other.

We are 100% incompatible and any attraction is purely physical.

At least that's what I keep telling myself.

*** You've met this couple in previous books, but what about their love story?
Daisy and Riley might be together in "Hot Dad", "Snowed In & Set Up" and "New Year's with the Single Dad", but find out how they came to be in this hilarious arrogant doctor, stubborn matchmaker, romantic comedy. No cheating, alpha male and a big old happily ever after!

A Canadian West Coast baby born and raised, Whitley is married to her high school sweetheart and together they have two beautiful daughters and a fluffy dog. She spends her days making food that gets thrown on the floor, vacuuming Cheerios out from under the couch and making sure that the dog food doesn't end up in the air conditioner. But when the kids are at school and it's not quite wine o'clock, Whitley sits down, avoids the pile of laundry on the couch, and writes.

A lover of all things decadent; wine, cheese, chocolate and spicy erotic romance, Whitley brings the humorous side of sex, the ridiculous side of relationships and the suspense of everyday life into her stories. With single dads, firefighters, Navy SEALs, mommy wars, body issues, threesomes, bondage and role-playing, Whitley’s books have all the funny and fabulously filthy words you could hope for.

I'm not sure why I'm surprised that I liked this book. This is my (only) second book and I have a feeling Whitley Cox is going to be added to my TBR with the speed of lightning.

This was a great rom-com about two people who see so different but deep down they couldn't be better matched. I loved the banter between Riley and Daisy. The story was light, funny, hot and swoony. I'm not sure who I liked better but what I do know is that this was a delight to read and I can't wait to pick up my next book by this author.

A nice quick read

Daisy is a match maker and Riley is a hot doctor with a huge ego.
I fell hard for Riley, he tried so hard to get Daisy to like him, but she was one tough chic. A fast paced quick read.

description

Love me a good palate cleanser! Throwing a short, quick contemporary romance in the mix always helps break the monotonous rut romantasy gets me into after a while.

Doctor Smug was a very sweet, very lighthearted, super easy to read book. And it had some kindred vibes and similarities to Mister Romance, a novel I read a couple of years ago and absolutely LOVED. There were compatibility tests, reticent heroines, off-the-charts charming heroes and the "give me three dates and I'll make you fall in love with me" thing—which is always a cute trope.

However, where Mister Romance had me all giddy and rooting for the couple, Doctor Smug left a bit to be desired. In my opinion, Daisy just wasn't much of a likable or easy to root for character. And you don't even have to take my word for it, this was how her brother described her:

You’re stubborn, jaded, have an ego, and to be honest, you’re a little smug because you think you know everything about relationships and matching people up, yet you’re blind to it when it comes to your own love life.

For someone who'd decided to dedicate her life to finding love for other people, she was decidedly out of love with love. And while this book never set out to be super deep or dark, I wish she'd been given more of a reason to be as rigid and uncompromising as she was. Emotional baggage is emotional baggage, feelings are valid, people respond differently to trauma and all that jazz, but if Daisy's past bad relationship was going to dictate and be the main thing standing between her and Riley getting together, that aspect should have been explored a bit more.

She was staunchly against giving a relationship with Riley a shot based on a incident from a single past relationship. But her harsh rebuff felt unwarranted based on the details and explanation we got, especially when she refused to look at things through any other lens than the one tainted by that bad experience. I don't mind a cynical, prickly heroine, but something about Daisy rubbed me the wrong way.

And that may also have been because of how unbalanced their relationship felt. Riley was a little cocky and annoying, yes, but he put so much time, care and effort into trying to please Daisy while planning their dates. He bent over backwards for this girl, was so earnest and genuinely thoughtful, a total cinnamon roll. And yet, her thoughts about him kept going back to how he was arrogant, and a playboy and unserious. In the end, it didn't feel like she earned his love or was deserving of her place next to him. This needed to either have a way more developed third act break-up or none at all.

Ultimately, could this book have been better? Yeah. But was it still cute and sweet? For sure.

Riley is a man who is confident of his skills when it comes to his career as a doctor and when it comes to woman. He has wanted Daisy from their first meeting, and she wants to put him in his place which makes the wager they placed that much more fun when she comes out the victor.

Daisy has made a career out of helping other people find love but hasn’t had the same success for herself. She believes that a relationship with Riley would be a disaster in the making but when destiny intervenes she may just find out that the only thing that really counts when it comes to love if your heart.

Hot chemistry, witty banter and all the feels as the matchmaker finds her last when she least expected it.

This was an exquisite story. Dr. Riley has a reputation that is unjust. Daisy is a matchmaker who can't find love for herself.
When Daisy's last relationship caused her such heartbreak she built a steel wall around her heart. When Riley asks Daisy out she refuses his advances. But when circumstances have her at his mercy he slowly chips away at the barriers. When she agrees to three dates Riley goes all out. Only Daisy gets scared of the feelings she is developing and breaks Riley heart. Will Daisy realize her mistake before it is to late.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, sadness, secrets, pain, and heartbreak.

This is Daisy and Riley’s story. He is a surgical resident, and she is a matchmaker. They have chemistry but they both have egos and believe in different things. He thinks they would be great together, but she goes but a simple test and does not believe they are a match. They make a bet but when she wins, he is not going to give up. He has epic dates planned that he knows will win her over, but will she give him a chance? When she finally agrees to the dates will he pass the test at the percent that she needs in order to prove they are good together or will she wake away if he scores lower then she believes is the perfect number?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Daisy and Riley meet at a trivia night. He’s a doctor and she’s a very successful matchmaker. Riley is full of himself and Daisy makes a bet that she knows he won’t be able to pass up. Although Daisy wants nothing to do with Riley, he wants to keep seeing her. He tries to show her that he’s not a bad guy and give him a chance.
Dr Smug is a funny, steamy, sexy story that I adored! It’s a heartwarming romance that I’m sure everyone will love!

Riley and Daisy...so opposite but yet so perfect for one another. I really didn't like Daisy all that much. It just felt like she wasn't being real and didn't want to believe that someone could find love without being a perfect match on paper. I loved Riley...he was true and open and fought for what he wanted and that was Daisy.

This is the 4th book I've read written by Whitley Cox; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

Riley is a cocky doctor and Daisy is put off by this when they meet. Riley wants Daisy and is willing to do anything to get her to agree to go out with him. So they did a bet there at trivia night with their friends. After Riley walks her home that night he knows he would like to see her again but never expected that it would be on his operating table. When he fills in for another doctor Riley ends up operating on Daisy. After she is released from the hospital Riley finally gets his chance to go out on a date with Daiisy. Will they finally get their happy ending?

This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Riley is a great surgeon, but unfortunately he doesn’t need to be convinced of that. He is his own best fan club – just ask that ego of his! This book has some fantastic banter between Daisy and Riley that makes it a perfect fun book to enjoy. It was really funny and made the reader a part of their enjoyment. The two get to know each other better when she needs his surgical skills and sees how he cares for her as she recovers.

Grab your copy and enjoy how their relationship develops from a frosty beginning to a warm and comfortable love. You will have fun along the way so don’t hesitate to dive right in on this one!

If Whitley Cox was a thermometer she would have broken the swoon worthy heat record with this first book following on from the smash hit Single Dad and Single Mom of Seattle series.

There are many great parts of Doctor Smug that truly make it a 5 star read but the one thing that stood out for me where the 3 date scenes that Dr Riley McMillan planned and carried out beautifully. As a reader I felt as if I was on each and everyone of those dates, I could close my eyes and touch, feel and smell them all and this is only possible with exceptional writing skills.

"But what good is a rom-com, or any movie-or book-for that matter, without a little struggle, a little conflict or tension in the middle, right?

And as we know with a Ms Cox book and as Riley points out what good is a rom-com without a little struggle, conflict or tension and Doctor Smug does deliver on that to.

Riley and Daisy have more in common than Daisy would like to think. As a professional matchmaker she relies on her algorithm to match up couples and she firmly believes that 'Pretty boy playboy' as Riley is known at the hospital would not be a match with her, already hurt badly once Daisy is still coming to terms with that. But Riley knows that something possibly forever could be just around the corner for him and the freckle face beauty he can't get of his mind, and when he gets the chance of 3 dates with the stipulation that he has to complete Daisy's matchmaking form can he convince he to give them a go or I will the algorithm bring an end to this relationship! After the 3 dates Daisy can't deny the fun she had and the undercurrent of chemistry between the 2 lets just hope the algorithm agrees.

One thing is for sure Doctor Smug has made me want to reach for the Single Dad series all over again! I can't wait to see what is next from Whitley Cox as it always a delight.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Daisy and Riley. From the moment these two meet their is something just there. The only thing is not only is there a spark there is also annoyance. When this book opens Riley is all hyped and worried about the trivia match at the bar that night. The thing is 2 of the doctors on the team are gone after joining Doctors without Borders. The reason Riley is also worried is he made a side bet with the raining champs at another bar that drinks were on the loser. So either he will get out with a night of drinking on someone else or he may be in the tank money wise. Riley's friend and fellow doctor asked his twin sister to help out for a 4 that night and she came though but Riley doesn't really know this girl so is she any good? Daisy can't believe she allowed her friend to talk her into coming to the bar that night. From the moment she meets Riley she thinks he is hot but also has an ego so big she wonders how he gets through the operating doors with it. She agreed to be there for trivia though not a hookup. She isn't sure how she feels about that. Since starting her business she relies heavily in this algorithm that she created. She feels with proper paperwork compatibility between a couple has a higher success rate. Can these two find a HEA that will come from this one night or will it have just been a night of fun neither will soon forget?

This is another amazing hit by this author. This story does have its ups and downs that I really want to tell you about, and man do I want to tell you so much. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Loving the push and pull of these characters! This is my first read from a new series (to me) from Whitley, and it was a no-brainer since I love her Single Dads and Single Moms series’! I definitely need to go back and read the previous books in this series, especially since it seems that it will help me understand the backstories of both of these characters better. Riley and Daisy meet through friends, and while they have crazy chemistry, they don’t act on things because Daisy isn’t interested in Riley’s reputation. But when Riley is in the middle of surgery and is pulled to another one, he recognizes the tattoo on the patient – and its Daisy! Helping Daisy recover, he wears her down into giving him a chance and by the time she’s released, they have plans to go on a series of dates. As they get to know each other on these dates, Riley takes no chance and pulls out all the stops to make them memorable and change her mind. I found myself irritated with Daisy as she was so focused on her business and her matchmaking test that she risks losing Riley over it. Thankfully, things end up working out for the couple and they get the HEA that Daisy gets for others! Can’t wait to read the previous books to catch up and get ready for the next installment!

5 star review of Doctor Smug by Whitley Cox

Having read several books by Whitley Cox, I couldn’t wait to dive into Doctor Smug. I love her style of writing and Doctor Smug really ticked all the boxes for me. Riley may have an ego that earns him his reputation but there is so much more to him that Daisy initially believes.

We have previously met Riley and Daisy in a couple of other books by Ms.Cox and I was excited to learn how they met, fell in love and became a couple. This story was everything I hoped for and so much more. From the first word until the last I was riveted to the story that was told.

The chemistry and growing feelings that sizzle between Riley and Daisy was heartwarming. There were times when I laughed and times where I wanted to scream. I was frustrated by Daisy’s putting her head in the sand and trying to deny what was happening. However once she realized that the feelings growing between them were real, it was heart warming.

Doctor Smug will make you swoon and I think you will be hard pressed not to fall in love with all of the characters, particularly Riley and Daisy. There was passion, sizzling chemistry, drama, tension and a whole lot of fun.

Witty and entertaining

So Doctor Smug, aka Riley McMillan, has an ego the size of the Grand Canyon. Okay so maybe not that big but he definitely needs to have it pricked and some of his hot air let out. Enter Daisy Wright and she is just the woman to do it. Riley may be a really excellent surgeon and all but Doctors are not gods but when he turns on his charms he can be a hard man to resist. That is what matchmaker Daisy finds out when she ends up one his table for an emergency operation and then under his care while she is in the hospital. I think she was drugged when she finally agreed to go on three dates with Riley but man can he ever pull them off. These two are fun with their witty banter that had me laughing. They may be opposites in a lot of ways but as they say "opposites attract" and these Riley and Daisy have it bad for each other.
This is a fun and entertaining read. It has a pretty good pace, a few times I found it a bit slow, and the story-line was well plotted. Plus I loved Daisy as she has a spirit in her and is not about to just take Doctor Smug without taking him on and dishing it back.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Doctor Smug is one of the best stories I have read by this author and that says a lot because Whitley Cox is a go to author for me, for me this is Whitley at her best !!!!
Riley and Daisy have appeared in previous books and I was excited to hear we were going to get their history and boy do they have a story to tell. Doctor Riley McHottie has an ego that’s larger than life but he is prepared to show Daisy the real man because he knows that’s the only way she will agree to date him but will chemistry be enough for this couple or will Daisy only give him the 3 dates he has talked her into, well I guess you need to read the book to find that out.....
We may only be 2 weeks into 2021 but that doesn’t mean Doctor Smug hasn’t hit my top reads of the year, I loved everything about this book, I fell hard and fast for Doctor McHottie and I loved the adorable Daisy. This book ticked all my boxes, I smiled and giggled at the witty banter, I swooned and I fell hard and fast for Riley and the sizzling chemistry had me grabbing for my fan. I guess all I need to say now is please one click this gem you won’t be disappointed.

Riley is a surgical resident complete with a God complex. Daisy is a matchmaker with a successful business. This standalone is written in first person from a dual POV.

Riley is cocky and arrogant on the outside. Once I got to know him as the book progressed, though, I realized that he really had a good heart underneath. He fell fast and hard for Daisy, who was unafraid to call him out. He is persistent and goes all out to win her over. He takes her on dates that sound amazing and she likes the man she gets to know.

Daisy has her own pride issues, but they are not as obvious. She is busy and is getting over her last bad relationship. She has lost the ability to trust her own judgement and she must regain that before she and Riley have a chance.

I love the banter and the push-pull between the 2 characters. There is a bit of slow burn because it takes a while for them to give into the physical chemistry and sparks between them. I love the humor, puns, and that they have so many likes in common. Their HEA is sweet and perfect. I know they appear in other books in their HEA and I look forward to reading them as well.

And this has been a great month, in reading matters.
Wanna know why?
Because I have two books back to back from this author and I couldn't be happier.
Whitley Cox has been a constant in my reading life and I can't get enough of her.
Her writing is sweet and beautiful, hot with a touch of the wild side.
Doctor Smug is her latest release and explores the lives of Riley and Daisy.
Riley is a doctor that loves to spend his free time with his best friend playing Trivia.
On one of those games, they were shorthand and his friend's sister was given the task to bring good one more player.
What he wasn't counting on was...
Daisy is a matchmaker, a job that she loves. On a game night...
OMG, what a book... What a story...
I loved every minute of it.
And palease... Can they be more stubborn? Jeez...
What a duo.
Perfect plot, well written, engaging, and hot.
So freaking hot. I loved it.
Those two were perfect for each other even if they tried to deny it.
They fought, they makeup, they fought some more.
I loved it.
Can't wait for the next book.
Because there will be a next book right Whitley?  I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Riley & Daisy

He might just need to be taken down a notch or four. Daisy is just the woman to do it. Meeting at a serious Trivia team play in a friend's pub, she is the sub. But this is serious business (when money is on the line) Riley finds her hot and desides he wants her. She is not on the program and knows they are not compatible. She should, she's a scientific match-maker with amazing results. A hilarious bet is in the works. She'll go on 3 dates with him and he'll walk home without his clothes depending on who has more right answers.

No matter who wins fate is gonna put them together again where she'll learn her first impression might not have been spot on.

The battle for love is hard-fought but he is determined. It takes a lot of effort and he thinks he's winning until he finds out why she is so set on more than an emotional connection but her scientific one as well. Can he reach the 85% match demands?

They are a great couple. Both are strong and independent. It's a steamy story with fun, laughter, emotions, good friends, and some angst thrown in. I loved it and heartily recommend it.

Doctor Smug by Whitley Cox in an entertaining, fun, steamy romance story of Riley and Daisy..Rily is a gorgeous, playboy surgical resident doctor. Daisy is an owner of a matchmaker business and a stubborn woman..In the night of Trivia game one of Daisy friend invited her to join their team and she met Riley the arrogant and full of ego of a doctor. to make it more entertaining they challenge each other, its impossible for me to say no.If Daisy wins,no date and Riley walking home naked and if Riley win she owes him three epic dates where he pull out all the stops to woo her..Daisy dont need her matchmaker test to prove that there not meant to be,despite what he says..She just came out in a toxic relationship.. she find love for other people, not herself. But she'll get him to take the test anyway. shell show him that there wrong for each other. They are 100% incompatible and any attraction is purely physical..At least thats what she keep telling herself.

Doctor Smug aka Riley McMillan has the ego to rival Mt Rushmore. At least that's what Daisy Wright believes. I agree Riley can be a bit much but he is a surgeon who was at the top of his class and he excells at pretty much all he does. There is a side to him that not many see but is the driving force behind how he is and what he does. So in short, i wouldnt say no to.one of his well plannned out dates. Daisy is a matchmaker by trade and has a foolproof way of making the perfect matches. Her business has an 85% success rate. It just hasnt been very successful for herself. Plus her instincts have put her off of Riley thinking there was no way they would be compatible. Daisy is awesome though and gives back in spades what Riley dishes out. The two of them together made me smile so much. They have witty and intelligent banter. They have chemisrty that leaps off the page . They have determination coming out their ears! Different kinds of determination but thats what makes this so good.

If you are a fan of Whitley's work like I am then you have met Riley & Daisy has characters on the sideline in some of her books and it is wonderful to actually get there story This is a wonderful fun read where an all alpha male is brought to his knees but at the same time a woman who doesn't believe finds that love can happen at any time.

Daisy is a matchmaker she may be able to select the perfect match for others but for herself she isn't so great at finding the perfect match but one thing she is sure of it definitely isn't the arrogant Dr. Smug Riley When a bet is made that she can beat him at Trivia she knows she will win so why does he get to take her on three epic dates and why is she falling for him Unable to risk her heart she pulls away and breaks Riley's heart in the process. Can she finally admit hat she really wants and give them both the HEA they deserve You will have to read to see

I loved this book so much! I kind of remembered hearing these two names before and saw they made a cameo in one of the Single Dads of Seattle books. Trust me you will want to read this one! I couldn't put it down. This book had the right combination of heart, heat, and humor. I can't tell you how many times I found myself chuckling while reading this one. Daisy and Riley have such witty banter right off the bat. That was one of my favorite parts of the book. Man, does Riley make you swoon with his romantic dates. His first date is truly a dream date for me. It has everything I would want. Riley is going to have is work cut out for him. I mean we see the work he puts in to get a date alone, but to try to convince Daisy there is more in store for them is an uphill battle. This fun couple is going to suck you right into the book and you will not want to come up for air until you're done with the book. It also looks like I need to go go check out some books of Whitley Cox's I haven't read because there a few characters from this book I need to read their books asap.

Riley is surgical resident and loves his job, his colleagues respect him and like many doctors he has a healthy ego.
Daisy is an extremely successful matchmaker with an algorithm she’s perfected over the years so she’s quite conceited and stubborn, when the two meet at quiz night she challenges Riley at every turn naming him Doctor Smug!!!
Daisy tests him constantly and he’s a good sport and has an amazing sense of humour, yes he looses a bet and walks home naked lol.
Daisy is sure thy won’t be compatible so refuses a date however fate intervenes bringing them back together ( no spoilers).
She agrees to three dates and well for more you need to read.
We are 100% incompatible and any attraction is purely physical she said but throw out the rule book as these guys were made for each other.
I personally didn’t find Riley smug, confident funny loyal but bot smug he had fabulous qualities.

The draw of this storyline is the engaging banter and intense chemistry between Riley, aka Dr. Smug, and Daisy. It took a little for me to warm up to her but once the pages started turning, the more appealing she became. It takes a strong woman to challenge the likes of Riley and Daisy is just the one to reel him in. However, there is only so much she can take because it is his inflated ego which keeps her at arm’s length when he, repeatedly, asks her out on a date. Not one to be swayed by a less than eager prospect, Riley persists until the tables turn and Daisy winds up briefly under his care in his professional capacity. What follows is a tale that weaves in so many emotions coupled with Daisy learning to not judge a book by its cover and realizing that she needs to heal from her past to move forward. Overall, this is an entertaining read that will have readers laughing with some steam. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.

This is a funny, sexy story! Riley Mcmillan is a doctor, a bit arrogant, very smug but so likable he ends up having Daisy, matchmaker extraordinaire as a partner at trivia night along with his friends Greg and Emily. What started out as an arrogant banter filled night, soon turned into something very different. We are taken along the ride of their journey to finding an HEA, but Daisy is stubborn, and belives that her matchmaking algorithm as all the answers and anything under an 85% match is less than perfect. But after three amazing dates what is their score? You have to read this amazing, breath of fresh air story to fiind out. I can't wait to read what's next forthis funny group of people. I volunteered to review this story.

Get ready for a battle of wits and trivia when we finally get Daisy and Riley's story!
When professional matchmaker /statistics extraordinaire Daisy and surgeon Riley meet it is a match made .......not happening according to the sassy smart Daisy and she has the stats to back it up. Riley's ego is so big she is not even sure how he made it into the bar for this trivia battle.
The moment Riley lays eyes on the the petite firecracker of a woman he knows without a doubt he is going down. He may start off on the wrong foot but he is about to show this woman that he means business. This new trivia team is on fire but Riley is ready to ramp up the stakes and a bit of a side wager with Daisy.
This couple is sexy, funny, have smart witty banter and are surrounded by a crazy fun cast of characters!
