Naughty or Nice #1

Dear Daddy, Please Love Me

Rate this book

Dear Santa,
I know I haven’t exactly been a good boy this year, and I deserve nothing but coal in my stocking.
But, unlike some people I know, I don’t wait until the Christmas holiday to bring pleasure to men. That has to count as something nice, right?

I’m tired of being with men who always leave so I’m asking for something a bit different. Something I’m afraid of wanting. Please Santa, help me find a Daddy who will love me.

Cheeky_Bottom

Down on his luck rancher, Lawson is in no position to be in a relationship when he’s one late mortgage payment away from losing his spread. He definitely should not want the high maintenance stripper Cheeky_Bottom who’s looking for love from a Daddy. Been there. Done that. And he has the debt to show for it.

“Possessions over people” has always been Opie’s mission statement in life. His possessions remain as long as he takes care of them, but people always leave. When he meets a mysterious rancher online, Opie has a feeling things were about to change. Has Opie finally found the Daddy he won’t let walk away this time?

Dear Daddy, Please Love Me is part of the Naughty or Nice multi-author series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but there are so many boys hoping that holiday magic will bring them their perfect Daddy, why not grab them all?

That was interesting and lovely. A bit of a strange story, or rather not quite the usual when it comes to Daddy/boy relationships.
Lawson is a difficult character, he communicates little or not quite right and has a past that has put him in a bad situation where he can't really be a Daddy, or at least doesn't think he can be. I wanted to shake him more often because he just should have talked to Opie better.
Opie is ... Opie. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Sorry, a very unique character. I like him a lot and he embodies what many of Gianni's characters are all about, he just has this wonderful touch of craziness.
I love how Opie doesn't give up and takes his Daddy.

“As I’m sure you’re aware, Opie, I’m not exactly in the best place to have a relationship right now. Not the kind of relationship you want.”
“Maybe you’ll realize that’s not true if you bothered to ask me what I wanted instead of assuming?”
🤗🤗🤗

Gianni Holmes and sex scenes? Anyone who has already read one of her books knows what to look forward to.

“Fuck.” He pulled out, and his hands spread my ass cheeks. “Oh my god, look at that.” Fingers pushed inside my gaping hole. “Look at how beautiful you are with your ass ruined by my cock. Can you take me a little longer, baby?”
“Yes, Daddy.” I still felt high from how hard he’d made me come.
“Good. ‘Cause I need to wreck you just a little bit more.”
🤤🤤🤤

A Christmas story that I thoroughly enjoyed, even if it falls a bit into the exhausting category and didn't have only nice fluffy elements.
My only complaint would be that there is too little information about Opie's past, I would have liked to dive more into his mind to explore the craziness better.

This book was a little complicated... It's not that I wasn't fond of the characters, just that there were times I wished they were portrayed better. AND COMMUNICATED BETTER!!!

Opie, for all his naïvity and his 'floozy-ness' was actually pretty sharp and kind hearted. His sense of humour; a fresher, unbiased perspective of the world; his capacity to love and trust and his devotion, his single-minded resolve for his Daddy, was what got me so in love with him. That and his love for lingerie. :D Though I'd sometimes wished that he keep his clothes on or that he treat Maddy, his best friend, better.

Lawson was also someone I wanted to like without any bias but I just wished he'd trust Opie. He questioned Opie's love for him when Opie was doing what he'd never done before. For anyone. I do like the fact that Lawson always defended Opie and took good care of him, humouring Opie and giving into his wants. Also the man can cook. Yum. I understand why he has trust issues, what with Anders being his ex-husband, but I sense a story I would've liked to know.

For all their flaws and their dissimilarities, Opie and Lawson do make a truly adorable couple, with their hens and their ranch.

I also loved Maddy and how stead-fast he was throughout the book, always being there for both Opie and later Lawson, giving Opie the reality checks he needs from time to time. Cole and Russ were absolutely amazing too, and I wish he had gotten his own story with his own beau, but who know? I'm keeping my fingers crossed. 🤞

Overall this was a sweet, hall-markish romance with a little more angst which made me miss winters dearly.

Why this book is drove me nuts:

Difficult to connect with characters. Laws on just seems too sappy and pathetic, Opie is an impulsive narcissist who just seems to be more obsessed with Lawson than in love with him. Opie really needed to grow up and stop putting his own needs first. I know they are supposed to be in a daddy relationship but Lawson doesn't seem to be getting that much out of it other than having some arm candy. Stop whining you want something like a Christmas tree and go get it yourself.

Lawson doesn't need to switch. Yes, it is possible in m/m for one partner not to bottom. I think the old 'I never bottomed before but I'd do it for him', is rather overused, like Law is some virgin in a bodice ripper.

I apparently prefer daddy relationships where the sub partner actually has a job and a life but has a little time off to he taken care of, not one where the sub is pretty much useless and a complete child emotionally.

The lack of Opie's impulse control, violence towards people who he thinks have had a relationship with Law and complete lack of listening to Law should be red flags. Yes, he had a bad childhood, but it's not really addressed in that he doesn't show growth as a person or remorse. His behaviour is excused by others as the person he lashes out at 'deserved it'.

The snow rescue scene was cheesy as hell. Followed by hypothermia recovery sex. Because cock is a well known medication for hypothermia.

They don't seem to have a relationship based on anything other than lust and mutual obsession.

I found the part where opie insisted on going to Law's father's house then swimming in the nude and having really loud sex with him really cringe. Homophobic father or not I thought it was quite disrespectful and harmed Law's relationship with his father.

I think that part of the daddy relationship that resonate with me tare the ones where there is emotional growth and the daddy helps the sub to be the best person they can. I didn't think that this book really explored that.

4⭐️ for the level of entertainment because I was in the need of some fluffy stuff. But the whole daddy kink was missing I think. Lawson didn’t set rules, didn’t punish him or controlled him, no praising or other things I expected 🤷🏻‍♀️ He was caring, yes I give him that but otherwise? And the mentioned kink throat play? Did happen exactly one time and was lame. Nevertheless they were cute together and I liked that Opie was determined to win his daddy back.

I feel like when most people hear the words "Daddy kink" this is what they have in mind.
In all it's bratty, annoying and cringey glory.

I tried really hard to give Opie the benefit of the doubt but I literally put down this book to go do the dishes because I just couldn't put myself through it anymore.

This was my first read by this author and it was a fairly sweet Daddy/boy story. Both Opie and Lawson have pasts that have been not great to say the least. When they are matched on an app they immediately click and that carries right over into their real life meeting. Lawson isn't in a position to keep a boy, especially one like Opie who he assumes is high maintenance Opie isn't used to caring for people since they always leave him, so he covets his possessions and only lets in his best friend, but Lawson turns out to be everything Opie could want in a Daddy and decides to take a chance. The two have issues communicating outside of the bedroom but they are sweet and sexy and a lot of fun together.

I enjoyed the story overall. Opie is a ball of energy and Lawson was a sweet and caring Daddy who only wanted the best for Opie, even if that meant letting him go. There were just two things that bothered me about the story.

Dear Daddy, Please Love Me is a sweet and tender Daddy romance by Gianni Holmes. Part of the Naughty and Nice multi-author series, it perfectly gets the reader in the mood for more Daddy romances.

This story is emotional, full of hope throughout. Opie's a stripper who's always gone after rich men, but nothing's ever lasted. When he meets Lawson online, things change. The two connect beautifully, but Opie also assumes Lawson's rich, which is an issue that lingers over their heads.

I love these complex men and their complicated road to happiness. There is so much going on throughout. I love the layers. Lawson's secrets and shame had me wanting to cry for him. As for Opie's jealousy, I adore it!

They make for a great couple. I enjoy the way they naturally connect, and the chemistry between them.

This is a tale with plenty of sexiness and an abundance of emotions. There's some great humor, including some funny moments between Opie and his roommate. In addition, there are plenty of lovable secondary characters, as well as some not so nice characters. And some lace!

Dear Daddy, Please Love Me is a sweet and tender Daddy romance. Gianni Holmes had me delighted throughout with these loving men. And the ending is beautiful!

Loved this so much!!

This was like opening a present to read. The further along you went into it the more that was revealed. At first Opie appears to be cute but spoiled and clueless. Then you see little peeks as to why he is like he is. By the end you are blown away by just how wonderful, caring, and sweet he is despite things. Law is so strong and brave. There was a moment when I wanted to shake him but I understood why he was doing what he did. I’d love to get Maddy’s story. And Cole’s too. I may not have as much time to read right now but I had to read this author’s new book. I knew it would give me the warm fuzzy feeling I need at this time and boy did it.

4.5 rounded down ...

First of all I have to say I enjoyed this more than I expected. I'm not sure what I thought I was going into, but it was better than I expected!

Opie and Lawson were so sweet. In a way these characters really shouldn't have worked together, yet somehow they absolutely did. Kudos to the author for that!

I actually really adored Opie, the crazy, bratty boy (and his pet chicken, Ms. Cluck). There were times I wanted to shake him for his naughty behavior, and other times I was cheering for him.

This book hit several kinks that I love, but there were also one or two that didn't work for me...
I probably would have rated this 5 stars, but I just couldn't do it because of my dislike for that one kink... sorry... that's totally a personal reaction...

Overall it was a really lovely read that exceeded expectations! I loved the sweet ending (and Opie's situation with Ms Cluck at the end also left me giggling and grinning like mad.)

3.5 stars, rounded. After reading Aisle Be the Groom by Sage Abbott, I was curious about Law and Opie’s story. This book was really sweet, and I quite liked the couple. Their dynamics were that of a typical daddy-boy story, but it was still executed well. I liked that Law wasn’t necessarily well-off and had very obvious struggles with his pride and finances, and Opie’s slight naivety was there to balance that out.

Oh, what a Daddy will go through for his boy. This is such a read! Gianni Holmes does Daddy/Boy stories so well and Lawson and Opie are so very different but work perfectly together.
Lawson is working himself to death to save his ranch from foreclosure after his ex stole everything out from under him. He manages to connect with Opie through an app that connects daddies and boys, thinking maybe just one night but Opie is so much more than he would have dreamed for himself. However, he doesn't want the boy who clearly loves nice and shiny things, to live in his poor, struggling world. Opie definitely has other ideas though and shows the strength he has by making his way to Law's hometown and demanding to be taken seriously and given a chance.
Absolutely adore Opie. He is sweet and innocent yet hot with a little temper when his buttons are pushed. I love his personality and how he opens himself up to the possibility of more with Law after only being interested in the material things previously. Law is stubborn but a real stand up guy, needing and wanting someone to low and care for. I love that even with everything he went through before, he's willing to take that chance with Opie, well....eventually.
Cannot recommend this book enough. I'm a fan of the author and am looking forward to more from this series.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Opie and Law had a few decent moments as a couple. Why did Law become a switch? Is that (when the top bottoms) supposed to be the ultimate true love test in m/m books? I don’t know but I didn’t want to read it in a Daddy kink book.

I had problems with why Law had financial troubles. Why did Anders sell Law’s property? Spite? Loan sharks? How could he sell the animals? If he couldn’t sell the ranch because he didn’t own it, how could he sell animals owned by the ranch? And why didn’t Law at least try to get his property back or have Anders take legal responsibility for theft? None of that plot line made sense to me. And to top it off the local banker is in a relationship with a known thief. And the whole (small) town is ok with it??? Suuuure.

I had more questions while reading this book than I had answers.

Sometimes love is all you need

Lawson and Opie were easy to love in this story. They had a bit of a rocky start and needed to be honest with each other. Once that happened, things clicked into place. Hot and sexy times were had. Trust and love was all there. HEA was super sweet.

Why oh why did I wait so long to start this series? I knew I was a sucker for a good Daddy book and this was wonderful. Even though it’s based in the Christmas season I think this book is more of a Daddy book than the reference to the season.

Opie, he thinks his long-lost mother who abandoned him as a newborn wanted to Name him Opium but the hospital frowned on that, has issues with people actually loving and keeping him so he collects his “treasures” from his many suitors. The only person he truly trusts is his BFF and roommate Maddy who took him in off the streets and has remained loyal every since. But now that his last Daddy has dumped him for one of his fellow strippers from the club he goes searching for a new one on his favorite app. There he finds a new gimmick for finding what he wants. When he discovers Lawson he can’t let it go.

I fell for Lawson immediately. Hearing his story of how his rich, homophobic parents tossed him to his grandfather as a teen was hard enough. But how his disgusting ex-husband literally robbed him blind was deplorable. That man couldn’t seem to catch a break. If it wasn’t for his buddy Cole I don’t know what the worn-down rancher would have done. He needed a boy something fierce but he knew good and well he was in no place to look for a boy let alone be able to keep him like a good daddy is suppose to.

Opie needs love more than all the treasures he has accumulated over the last several years. He has amassed a lot of things except for the one thing the boy truly needed…love and commitment. Those are things he finally sees in Law but isn’t sure how to convince him that’s what he truly wants and needs.

Although I saw a lot of growth in Opie I loved that he still managed to keep his bratty side and spunkiness that drew him to Law. But his true heart shone through in the end and it was a wonderful thing to witness.

This book is part of the Naughty or Nice multi-author series. They are all stand-alones with the same Dear Santa letter as a lead-off. Hope you enjoy Law and Opie as much as I did!

I'm a big fan of Daddy/boy books, so when I found out about this multi-author collab I was really excited. Opie and Law were such an adorable couple to kick things off, and their romance took me on a wildly entertaining journey.

Opie was possibly the most bubbly, energetic character I've ever seen, and despite his eccentricities I fell in love with his bright enthusiasm. Given how openly exuberant he was around his friends, it didn't make sense to me that he'd be cold to his lovers, and I honestly never saw any evidence that he ever treated anyone that way. Sure, he got a little cagey about his possessions, but nothing seemed more important to him than his Daddy. Speaking of Daddies, Law was such a hard-working, upstanding man. Life dealt him a crappy hand, but instead of giving up he put his all into saving his ranch. I saw that same dedication in the way he treated Opie, and my heart melted into a giant puddle every time those two were in a room together. Opie and Law had such intense sexual chemistry and seemed to take such genuine pleasure in spending time together. This story showcased a lot of their steamy moments, and I never got tired of the rough, possessive, can't-keep-my hands-off-of-you passion they unleashed on each other.

Though their relationship did seem driven by the physical side at first, as this story progressed, Opie and Law really began to open their hearts to each other. For me, the biggest turning point was when Opie went to visit Law for the first time--without any space for lies and half-truths, these men could finally take a shot at being together without any secrets. I wasn't expecting this romance to get so raw and emotional, but as the ranch situation grew more dire, I felt every bit as uncertain and anxious about the future as Opie and Law did. The solution to all of their problems seems obvious now that I'm looking back, but it required a level of trust that these two were still building all the way to the climax of the story. In the end, these sweet men managed to make things work, and I was delighted to see that four years down the line they still had that same electric chemistry as before.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

***Spoilers here and there***

I definitely enjoyed this one. It cracked me up how Anders was so jealous of Opie because Opie got what he still wanted and that was Lawson.

Anders didn’t deserved Lawson because of what he did and made him lose everything beside the house. Which he almost lost. Because of that Grant person. I loved the fact the Opie wanted to help him keep his farm and keep it in the legacy etc for his grandfather.

I do want to know if Cole is going to go for Cameron because I am curious about him. Especially with him still being in the closet.

The firecracker and sweetheart Opie and tough guy Lawson is a fun read, emotional at times as well.
It's refreshing with a Daddy that isn't sure of himself, that isn't perfect and have everything needed to take care of his boy, and I liked for once that the boy rescued his Daddy instead of the other way around.

As always there are fun side characters like Maddy and Cole, even Lawson's ex is someone that makes you curious because of how he is written. Along with Ms Cluck.

I enjoyed the book and it's a fun concept, letters to Santa, and I look forward to more books in the series.

I loved every second of this. Love this daddy boy relationship. Loved this couple together and apart. Loved their journey to trust and love. They fought through the baggage to get to their HAE. The writing was good, the smexy was Hawt, and the side characters make me really excited to see if they get books.

I find the concept of this book very unique because it’s usually the other way around where we get a rich daddy and a not so rich boy. Here we have Lawson who is struggling so much financially and Opie who enjoy luxury yet doesn’t care about Law’s finances just wants love. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because at the beginning we have told that Opie has felt different about Lawson, that he was different but I didn’t feel we get to see how and why. In my opinion, we would have needed to see more foundation for their relationship.

Gianni Holmes proves once again that daddy kink doesn’t need to follow tired formulas. Opie and Lawson’s story takes risks, flips expectations, and still lands beautifully—reminding us why Holmes remains a standout in the genre.

Daddy, Switch, Verse — Let’s Clear That Up

Lawson being labeled a “switch” or “dominant” on his cuffed profile is not a contradiction. A switch is about power exchange, not just who tops or bottoms. Lawson bottoming once for Opie doesn’t undo his dominance, nor does it suddenly make him a “verse” character. Instead, it’s a rare, intimate moment meant to deepen their connection. That exploration doesn’t weaken the narrative; it enriches it.

Tropes, But Made New

Does every daddy kink book have to be about a wealthy daddy rescuing a needy boy? Holmes says no. Opie—an unemployed stripper who sells his possessions to help Lawson—brings companionship, purpose, and literally gives Lawson his life and career back. Lawson, the older “daddy,” needs his boy as much as his boy WANTS him. This inversion is fresh and intentional. Complaints about “overused” tropes miss that Holmes is deliberately rewriting the rules.

Emotional and Biological Realism

Was Opie wanting sex after nearly dying in the snowstorm unrealistic? Absolutely not. Biology tells us that after a near-death or high-stress event, adrenaline and dopamine crash into euphoria and sometimes sexual arousal. Couple that with shared trauma and intimacy, and sex becomes an act of life-affirmation. It’s messy, human, and true.

Character Development, Not Flaws

Opie impulsively ripping out Cole’s hair? Ugly, yes. But he owned his mistake and repaired the friendship—exactly what character growth looks like.

And let’s be clear: Opie is not a “complete child.” Regression into little space is one thing; Opie never regresses. Ever. He’s a sub through and through—one who enjoys sex, spankings, and his beloved pet hen. His constant rule-breaking around the hen isn’t childish regression; it’s character consistency. He’s bratty, playful, and thrives on his daddy’s discipline. That’s not uselessness—it’s exactly what makes his dynamic with Lawson work.

Lawson being a victim of Anders’ betrayal doesn’t make him pathetic; that logic would make every victim of crime pathetic.

Plausibility in Plot

Anders liquidating marital assets without criminal repercussions? Perfectly plausible. Colorado is an equitable distribution state: one spouse can take cash while the other keeps the property. No crime, no lawsuit. The injustice stings because it can happen. Holmes didn’t “forget realism”—Holmes nailed it.

Relationship Core

Did Opie instantly imprint on Lawson? Yes. Was that a flaw? No. It’s romance with chemistry, passion, and connection—not case law. This fast-burn romance doesn’t require a painstaking trial transcript proving when and how a character is “allowed” to fall in love. Did getting caught at Lawson’s parents’ house ruin his family ties? How can you ruin what’s already broken? Did Opie selfishly demand a Christmas tree? He regretted it instantly, and a man who sells his prized possessions to save his partner is the opposite of selfish.

The Bigger Picture

This book isn’t about a dom fixing a broken sub—it’s about rewriting what a daddy/boy dynamic can look like. It’s about love being messy, reciprocal, and boundary-defying. If you’re hung up on one sex act, one trope, or one storm scene, you’re missing the forest for the trees.

Final Verdict:
Holmes didn’t just write another daddy kink romance; Holmes wrote a new kind of daddy kink romance. One where the boy isn’t a useless child, the daddy isn’t infallible, and intimacy isn’t limited to rigid roles. It’s bold, it’s emotional, it’s playful, and it’s refreshingly human.

5 stars. Not despite the risks—but because of them.

Aww, I really liked this book. This is the first book I’ve picked up by this author and I really enjoyed her writing style. I think I might have to check out some of her other books now...

I didn’t really like Opie all that much at first. He was so materialistic that it really annoyed me. After he met Lawson and changed his ways, he really started to grow on me. He was pretty selfless in the end and I couldn’t help but smile at the way he came through for Lawson.

I was also pretty annoyed at Lawson for ignoring Opie that first weekend. Opie seemed really upset and it hurt a little bit. Lawson could’ve just been up front to him instead of ignoring him like that after promising he’d call. Ugh.

But in the end all worked out and it was a nice HEA. I sort of wish there was more age-play with the daddy kink. It was there a little bit but not as much as I’m used to reading now. I guess it was nice reading more of an equal balance in the relationship while still having a Daddy to take care of his boy in their own way, so I guess I can’t blame them for that.

Nicely Naughty!

Using an online app, quirky, cute Opie connects with Rancher/Daddy Lawson but will the connection last? This holiday romance has a rom-com vibe to it. There are also bits of this tale that are unrealistic, not grounded in reality but what Christmasy story isn’t. I enjoyed Opie’s feisty, fem, fearless personality and Lawson’s acceptance of Opie’s quirks, even though I thought he should have been less indulgent. Overall, an interesting enough premise and good storytelling. Cute!
Aside: We need a Cole & Cameron romance, also a Maddy romance, too.

I am new to this author and to the Daddy/boy dynamics. This isn't something I typically read so I'm trying to expand my reading preferences. I have to say, I enjoyed this story of a down-on-his-luck Country Daddy and his boy who seems to latch onto material things more than people. Both Lawson and Opie had their own baggage and issues to work through and were totally different in so many ways, but completely worked. There were just a few things that stopped me from completely loving it and I wished some things would have been flushed out more.

Lawson is struggling to keep his ranch after being betrayed by his ex-husband, but tempted by loneliness he logs into the hookup app just to look with every intention of deleting it. When an ad for finding a boy for Christmas comes up, he clicks on it and accidentally sends an invite to Opie, who asked Santa for a Daddy for Christmas. Clearly Opie is used to having the finer things that Lawson just can't provide, but the temptation is too great and they begin to chat and connect.

Opie is a stripper and has just been replaced by his daddy stating he is too attached to material things and not open to love. With his history, Opie knows people don't stay, but things do. When he meets Lawson things shift and even though he doesn't know that extent of Lawson's debt or how he was somewhat misled into thinking Lawson had more than he did, he was already attached.

Through a series of events with some small town shenanigans, misunderstandings, and some communication failures, Lawson and Opie found there way. The sexy times were smoking and the pair seemed to work together well.

What bothered me was the lack of openness on Lawson's part and there were some things that weren't flushed out well. The bomb Lawson's ex dropped on Opie that never got cleared up, why the ex did what he did, Lawson's adamancy on not letting Opie help, but then being Ok when he did, and the feeling of things not quite being finished. I felt like a lot more conversation needed to happen and maybe it did off the page, but I would have liked to be a part of it. Opie's character also felt a bit confusing when he should have come off more materialistic, but wasn't. The epilogue was also a bit abrupt.

Overall, it was a solid read and I want to continue with this series. I'm interested to explore the other authors and may go back to see if Cole and Cameron will get their own story. I would be interested in reading that. I did like Cole.

When this series was announced my interest was immediately piqued since I love Daddy/boy stories, and I pre-ordered all of them. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to start reading them right away, so I’m just diving in now over a year later. This one is by a new-to-me author, so I went in with an open mind.

While individually I found myself interested in both main characters, when it came to a relationship I did not feel a true emotional connection between Lawson and Opie. Things between them felt rooted primarily in the physical, with not enough to feel like they had something solid built on more than that physical chemistry.

Opie comes across as too flighty and materialistic for my taste, and is a bit self-centered as well. His attitude seemed childish for someone in his twenties. There was still something about him that did have me hoping his story would end happily though. It was much easier for me to become invested in Lawson’s character, especially since we find out early on about the circumstances in which his ex left him. I’m also a sucker for a rough-edged rancher.

There are things that aren’t sufficiently explained though; the most notable of these centers on Lawson’s ex, and how he was able to sell his animals and more out from under him without consequences. Nothing about that situation seemed fully realistic to me. The fact that with all the small-town gossip going on where Lawson lived everyone would have known exactly what happened, and nothing was done and everyone was fine with his ex still being around with no repercussions…yeah, that left me over here side-eyeing the book.

As a proofreader myself, I also had a hard time overlooking obvious errors, especially since some just jumped right off the page and a couple of instances actually took me out of the story. The overall story itself was just okay. The over-the-top antics of Opie and some other characters had me considering making this a DNF, but I pushed through to the end. But when I find myself slogging through a read just to finish and giving eye rolls too many times, that’s not an enjoyable read for me.

Two stars for Dear Daddy, Please Love Me. Others may like the excessive behavior and improbable situations, but this really wasn’t for me.

Dear Daddy, Please Love Me by Gianni Holmes is the first book in a multi-author daddy kink Naughty or Nice series for the holiday. The stories are linked through a dating app called Cuffd. This is the story of Opie, a boy, and Lawson who became his Daddy. Opie had a difficult life as he was an orphan living in a series of group or foster homes. He was doing the best he could and was found by his best friend, Maddy, who saved him from being a pick-pocket and gave him a place to live. Opie was a stripper in Denver and had a series of rich daddies who gave him whatever he wanted, everything except love. He became attached to his “things” because they never left him. Lawson was a rancher who lived 8 hours away. He was barely making it and was about to lose his ranch because of his ex-husband, which is something he didn’t want to do because it was bequeathed to him from his grandfather who took him in when his family kicked him out for being gay. Lawson and Opie meet through the Cuffd App. Lawson drives to Denver to meet Opie and they spend 2 days together. Opie feels a connection and thinks that Lawson may be his forever Daddy but Lawson sees how Opie lives and how he likes to be pampered and fears he cannot give him the lifestyle he has been living. The story continues through a series of events, mostly at the ranch when Opie decides to visit, in which he learns he doesn’t need extravagant riches to be happy, and Lawson learns he can provide what Opie wants and needs without a lot of money. I like how they learned that they only need love and to help each other to be happy. This book was a little different from other books Ms. Holmes has written. While it is a Daddy/Boy book it does not include any age play but is more about Lawson setting the rules and being dominant while Opie “tries” to follow them and is the submissive. If you like sassy boys who just want to be loved and older men who are doing their best when it may not be enough you will love this book. I know I did and I’m looking forward to seeing what Ms. Holmes will write next.

Opie is possessive. He loves his possessions: jewels, make-up, clothes, fur, anything designer really. Because possessions don’t leave. They always stay. Opie lives by the same idea that Shirley Bassey would sing about, “Diamonds never leave you...men do.” So in order to protect himself, he keeps his possessions close and protects himself from people.

Law has no possessions. Everything he has was taken from him from the boy he thought he loved and sold out from underneath him. Now he struggles to pay the mortgage every month and is barely keeping afloat. He has been scorned by a boy who only sees value in possessions - there is just not room enough in his heart, much less his wallet for any more.

In a last minute holiday decision, Law decides to use the Cuffd app to relax and have a weekend get-a-way from the realities that are breaking him. While Opie is looking for a Daddy this holiday season. One who he hopes will love him and never leave. One that Opie hopes to add to his collection of possessions. This leaves both men vulnerable to heartbreak when one quick visit to Denver becomes an extended weekend, which leads to a trip to a broken down ranch in a small-town. The big question is whether each of these men can learn to leave their fears behind and open up to each other enough to trust in what they are building. This is a must-read Daddy kink story. Opie and Law are absolutely not to be missed.

This is the first book in the multi-author daddy-kink Naughty or Nice series (obviously, I am getting all of them and self-adding them to my stocking this holiday season).

Synopsis: Down on his luck rancher, Lawson is in no position to be in a relationship when he’s one late mortgage payment away from losing his spread.

Review: When I first started this book I almost stopped reading. I am glad I continued. Opie started as a character who was so over the top it turned me off. The author was able to show the reader what was beneath Opie's persona that he projected to the world and allow the reader to see him and ourselves so that we can care about him. Lawson was in some ways an easier character to portray, but the author gave him more depth as well. While not a huge fan of insta-love there were aspects of this story that made it, if not more believable, at least it was understandable.

The writing was pretty solid. There were aspects to each of the main character's stories I would have liked fleshed out more, but that is personal preference and doesn't reflect on the story. The pacing was decent overall, but there were parts that might have gone a bit differently that might have smoothed it out.
