Once a member of the world’s first all-female special forces unit, the Norwegian Hunter Troop,
Jane Haven is now helping her brother Kennet protect some of the world's most endangered animals at his Kenyan Wildlife Conservancy.
Heavily armed poachers pose a deadly threat to humans and animals alike, and when her brother dies suddenly, Jane vows to protect his legacy against the threats circling the Bandari reservation.
With rhino horn worth more than diamonds - those threats keep on coming - until Jane finds she's the one being hunted ...
Born in Bradford in West Yorkshire, UK, amidst silent mills and roaring waters. Hunted is the first novel I have had published. It will be followed by Endangered, with several others in various states of completion queuing up behind that. Thank you for taking the time to give my writing a chance. I very much hope you enjoy it.
This is a fabulous book with bite in such an exciting setting, which in turn brings a great paced thriller. Festo, Douglas, Jane and Tony are on the Laikipia Plateau, Kenya, amongst the wild animals, such as rhinos and Zebras amongst other animals and birds across the Savannah. It's a spectacular landscape to behold in the mind's-eye. It is exquisite in depiction of African wilderness and is quite irresistible and enchanting, yet endangered due to poachers and there's a peculiar omen featuring an owl. All of which would draw any reader in and by the second chapter, there's even more action. Murder is never pretty, and this one definitely is not and the hunt is on in what becomes a fast-paced thriller, which becomes about humans and animals in danger. As much as there is this, there is a beautiful richness to the story and it is all encompassing and absorbing as Africa wraps around you. The theories are interesting with the dynamics at play in characters and landscape adding depth to the story.
The book later moves to Nairobi, Lang'ata Maximum Security Prison. It sends a slight shiver down the spine in the way it is described and then you get to know a bit about the activities that are within it and some of the prisoners. It gets more intriguing still and before you know it, the book has come to and end! It's a very good end in finding out the culprit and also, like throughout, such a nod to conservation and the stark need for it, to protect what is left in the natural world and all done in a none preachy way and all within a fantastic fast-paced thriller with a great heroine.
Buckle in from the moment you start this novel, as you’re in for a ride as wild as the main character’s driving! This is a brilliantly crafted action adventure crime story, well paced and driven throughout. The scene setting is wonderfully evocative - there’s a seamless blending of enough to make it feel familiar with enough to make it new and exciting - it’s a hard balance to strike between making the reader comfortable and pushing their boundaries, and Dunford has got it spot on. I love this genre anyway, but it’s fantastic to see a no-compromise kick ass woman as the protagonist - she’s definitely a character I’d like to see more of in the future.
Poaching destroys balances and hunters detest this threat to terminate a species.
The last of the northern white rhinos is protected in a small fortified preserve, guarded day and night by armed rangers. Why would anyone attempt to destroy them for the value of their horn? Excellent characters, page-turning action, a good grasp of locale, and a fascinating plot delivers an interesting and unusual story of Africa and the challenge to protect its wildlife. Well worth the time.
This book will be published on 26th January 2021 & I was lucky enough to have an ARC copy.
I loved this book; from the physical feel of it (yes, an actual book), to the glorious evocative cover & the relaxed writing style.
In Jane Haven, we have a kick-ass heroine who is a ranger on her brother’s Kenyan Wildlife Conservancy. Her task is to protect the last remaining male Northern White rhino. She fails. Everything & everyone around her is affected. The story revolves around her hunting the killers & the helpers she collects on the way.
I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s great. Tell your cousins (that’ll make sense when you read it).
Hunted is a gripping, fast-paced action thriller with a difference. The story takes place in beautiful Kenya, and the landscape is almost a character in itself as the plot races on. Jane Haven, once in the Norwegian Special Forces and now a ranger at the Kenyan Wildlife Conservancy, is up against some brutal killers – but who is being hunted? This book would make a wonderful adventure film.
Hunted by Antony Dunford is a crime thriller with a difference. A kick-ass female heroine trying to track poachers and killers of endangered animals is not your run-of-the-mill story and anyone who enjoys a fast-paced, action thriller will love this book. I thought the story was thoroughly researched and well-written.
Antony Dunford's first published book. We pre-ordered and were super-excited when it arrived (a day early, a bit like getting the Sunday papers on Saturday night). It starts fast and doesn't slow down. It been a while since I've read an adventure thriller: it took me back to summer 2019 when we could travel and spend time by the sea lazing and reading.
It's a great first book and I'm really looking forward to the next instalment. At the Garcez house we're really bought into Jane and Walker and have fingers crossed for a prequel to explore Jane's earlier career! Great book Antony! :)
This book is an action adventure story with a serious message. Antony Dunford has done a great job here with his portrayal of Africa in all its gritty glory, from the wilderness of the savannah to the cities of Durban and Nairobi. And what a powerful and ruthless female protagonist he has created in Jane Haven! As well as being a face paced thriller, Hunted addresses the important issues of the threat by poachers to the endangered species of this wonderful continent and the risks endured by those who's mission it is to protect them. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of Jane's story in the next instalment of this series.
Engaging story that taught me a lot about Kenya ... although the escapades of the lead character and her team (four of them managing to bring down a huge private security operation and a load of bodyguards on a massive ranch, escape from a maximum security prison, and dodge the army) were a bit farfetched...
I bought this book because it was short and long listed in various competitions and it didn't disappoint. Clear and strong narrative and a great female lead. I loved the story and couldn't put it down. It seemed horribly realistic, dealing with how endangered animals are slaughtered for parts in far eastern medicine. I'll definitely read the sequel.
Great book a real page turner. I couldn't put it down. The characters where very well constructed and interesting. Africa was real with every word written.o
This is a well written storyline of poachers with rhinoceros and elephants. Showing how it can get out of hand along with what they do to the poachers. I enjoyed this book
