Not as 4th of July festive as I hoped. More about the puppies being afraid of fireworks, thinking there might be a monster in the woods, and trying to overcome that fear. I appreciate the humans were aware the dogs might be afraid of fireworks (and tried to comfort them) but I was also a bit disturbed by the puppies being allowed roam freely in the woods at night and the amount of picnic/party food the dogs were sneaking (including a whole pie). I get that it's part of the adventure and fun from the puppy's perspective, but I hope young readers will know it's not actually safe to let your dog roam freely in the woods or give your dog a whole pie (and I really hope there were not chocolate goodies among those dropped).

We recently picked up books 4 and 5 in this series at a book fair. I'm sorry not to have started at the beginning, but the illustrations are just so charming that we couldn't say no. Part of me wishes the book began with even the slightest explanation of who the main character was - we don't even learn his name until a third of the way through - but on the other hand, I appreciate that the book isn't bogged down with series formula. One of my favorite aspects is Bo's friend Scrapper, who is drawn with three legs, a characteristic that's not mentioned at all in the text. Our students can't get enough of dog-centric lit, so I'm sure this series will be a hit with our beginning readers.

This wasn't my favorite, it's about Bo and Scrapper finding a fort in the woods but mostly being afraid of fireworks. They think they're a monster. They roam free during the food gathering before the fireworks and gorge on human food and then calmly watch the fireworks because a smart sheep has explained what they are. It didn't seem realistic.

The fourth book of the ‘Good Dog’ series doesn’t disappoint. There were moments when I found myself giggling at the shenanigans that Bo and his best friend Scrapper got into. A great story with more of the cute illustrations I’ve come to know and love.

I love reading this series aloud to my 4 year old (we usually do it in two halves). Cute storyline, lots of nature elements and diverse characters, dog's perspective, fun illustrations... We read 5 out of order, so it was nice to get an adequate introduction to Scrapper!

This was the first chapter book my child ever read-completely on his own. It was absolutely adorable. He especially enjoyed when the puppies' marked their territory around their fort. 😂 I've already put the entirety of the series on hold at the library for him.
