Launch Yourself into the Great Unknown.
The universe has always fascinated humans, but only a few have been daring enough to travel beyond the surface of the Earth. From the first man and woman in space to the moon landings to building the International Space Station in orbit, the history of space exploration is filled with peril, bravery, and strokes of genius.
In this beautifully illustrated anthology, spaceflight expert Libby Jackson reveals the best true stories of humankind’s thrilling journey to the stars and beyond.
I won a copy of Space Explorers: 25 Extraordinary Stories of Space Exploration and Adventure, written by Libby Jackson and illustrated by Leonard Dupond, from Goodreads.
Get ready to take off on an amazing journey through space and time with Space Explorers: 25 Extraordinary Stories of Space Exploration and Adventure by Libby Jackson, illustrated by Leonard Dupond. Presented in chronological order, these twenty-five stories are perfect for young readers and for read-aloud sessions, and the illustrations bring to life the fascinating details. Jackson manages to capture the thrills of the missions while making accessible the complex concepts for young readers. The layout and bright illustrations are sure to attract readers of all ages, and the textbook quality of the book itself guarantees frequent revisits.
Language: PG (1 swear, 0 “f”); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG These 25 stories talk about the space accomplishments that started in the 1950s, with the space race between the Soviet Union and the United States of America, and what is going on now to explore even farther. Readers will get to know the first astronauts, the requirements for going into space, and even the guy that recorded the first album in space! Jackson highlights the amazing problem solving skills of astronauts through the years and encourages readers to reach for the literal stars. Under all the excitement, though, danger lurks around every corner, and Jackson offers a tribute to those who have lost their lives in these space endeavors. I appreciate the realism in both the good and the bad of exploration of the moon and stars. Reviewed for https://kissthebook.blogspot.com/
We read a chapter almost every night at dinner. Many elements of the stories were things we'd never heard before. It prompted us to look up quite a few things and explore more. We had many good conversations as a result. I bought it as a gift for my Dad who loves everything outer space related! Highly recommend for families.
This is a really well written story of different space adventures, what it takes to be an astronaut and what space programs hope to accomplish in the future. It also discusses the inside of the International Space Station, what experiments are done there, what life is like there, etc. We loved it!
This is a great book printed on quality glossy pages. I can't wait to share it with my niece who is super into space. The stories catch your attention more than I would have guessed. If you know any one interested in space and astronauts this book will make a great gift.
Great book with great info., but had several grammatical and spelling errors. It proves that proofreaders and copy editors need to carefully do their jobs. As a librarian, I would still put this book into a kid’s hands. The fascination with space should never cease.
The stories were quite good, but I have one problem with this book. Where is the bibliography? I mean this should have been listed, ESPECIALLY about a story where the authors admit is not totally confirmed. Also, the beginning of the book stressed that these are true stories, so where is the bibliography?
