When Mega Man Fully Charged was first announced I absolutely hated it. I expected something much closer to the original material or to what Archie Comics had.
That being said, I believe this is the level of creativeness a comic book tie-in should strive for to get you interested in another product. I now have the intention of watching the series.
Now, this series here is fascinating, it takes elements from many parts of the video game series, Classic, X, and I did feel a dash of Battle Network.
The story itself follows similar beats to something like Alita Battle Angel, where our protagonist, Aki, the civilian alter ego of Mega Man, faces strange visions about a war that he was part of. He slowly comes to an understanding of what he was and how that doesn't have to determine who he chose to become, a hero.
I find it amazing how it took many characters from the series and twisted them just enough to give them new dynamics. Like Dr, Light now being a war veteran with a lot of regrets, or Dr. Wily as a robot fanatic.
I went into this not knowing that it was based off a specific series, and even though it was fine I don't think this is my personal favourite interpretation out there. The specifics are muddy, and character eras seem somewhat confused for longtime fans, but it could be worse. The story itself is fun, and the interpretation is neat, as well as the art being very well done. I would've liked eras to be a little clearer (I'm unsure why we have Mega with Zero), but still a noble endeavour to bring a classic series into the future.
It was fun collecting the comics and then reading them as a whole series. Megaman has needed a come back for years and with the battle network legacy collection also making great sales I hope he gets pushed into the spotlight again.
