I haven't read any other volumes from "Pokémon Adventures" and the main characters here are mostly unknown to those who know the anime. So it would've been much harder to follow without the help I got from the amazing "bulbagarden" website. Gradually it was becoming an enjoyable read. And I really liked this printed version.

The Firered/Leafgreen arc concludes in volume 9 of the Pokémon Adventures Collector's edition and what a cliffhanger it ends upon. It is clearly to be further explored in the Emerald arc which also starts into this volume. There a few similarities between the Firered/Leafgreen arc and the Emerald arc: both take place in already explored regions and do not focus on the plot of taking on gyms or contests, instead the Emerald chapter focusses on the Battle Frontier which is a whole new take on the world of Pokémon and takes the manga in a fresh new welcome direction.

That ending for part five 😳 The start of part six I didn’t care for Emerald at first but with the second volume with him in it I started to understand him and like him and his mission more. The battle tower with the different complexes is very challenging and interesting to read about and I look forward to seeing Emerald battle them and if he can succeed in capturing Jirachi before the villain so they can restore the other Pokédex holders.

Okay okay, I’m back again for another Pokémon review (we are almost done with these collector’s editions..Will we get more???). The first half of this volume concludes the FireRed and LeafGreen or the fifth chapter!!! I really enjoyed this arc. Red was so freakin cool in this arc (but when isn’t he? Lol). There was an awesome fight between Deoxys and Mewtwo and a shocking moment for Silver.. Red also discovers WHY he has that weird connection with Deoxys.
and then we end on a HUGE cliffhanger. No happy ending this time???
The remainder of this volume starts the sixth chapter, the Emerald arc… This also starts the whole Battle Frontiers situation. I’m not exactly the biggest fan of this Battle Frontiers “show” or whatever but basically, it’s like those live shows with people doing crazy obstacle courses except this is with Pokémon instead? lol
Emerald is our new main character. He’s an eclectic little dude. He’s as weird as his hair tbh LOL. Anyway, he interrupts the opening ceremony for this Battle Frontiers and then competes in it.. Meanwhile, there’s a new villain (of course) who’s trying to sabotage the show… Also, there’s this cute Pokémon named Jirachi, who only wakes up once every thousand years and can grant you a wish!!!Fun fun!!!
I think the most exciting thing was seeing Ruby and Sapphire at the end of this volume. The ending to this arc is in the next volume!!! See you there!! Haha

This volume continues to focus on the plot from the previous volume regarding Deoxys in the Sevii Islands. The story continues as Silver finds out that Giovanni is his father; however, instead of going down the path of evil, he wants to stop Giovanni along with Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. Once that story arc is completed, the reader returns to Hoenn and the newly opened, Battle Frontier. The story focuses on Emerald and along the way, we are reunited with some previous heroes. Emerald wants to conquer the Battle Frontier but comes across Jirachi, a Pokemon who only wakes up once every 1,000 years. Someone else is wanting Jirachi for evil; however, will they prevail? I guess you have the find out.

This omnibus contains both the ending to the FireRed/LeafGreen arc, as well as the beginning of the Emerald arc. For the FireRed/LeafGreen half, I really enjoyed both the small character moments for each of the protagonists as well as the various battles. Deoxys is a properly intimidating opponent with its ability to switch forms on the fly, and I found that this volume managed to balance each character's stories really well. As for the Emerald half, I wasn't a fan of Emerald as a character at the start — he just came off as way too tactless and happy-go-lucky. But, by the time the story really kicked into gear, he'd grown on me way more, and I found the Battle Frontier and its various facilities to be really unique challenges and settings for some really engaging Pokémon battles.

this guy knows how to write an arc finale, to the point that it’s hard to stop flipping the page. the FRLG ending was no different in the sheer scale of the storytelling and the consequential narrative.

This bleeds directly into the Emerald arc, which, while fun and incredibly fast-paced, faces some of the same pitfalls the Yellow arc had (which btw i FINALLY liked her last arc, but i digress), where Emerald and his motivations are a bit more subtle and nuanced than other protagonists. HOWEVER, i am loving the mystery word-work on display.

excited to devour the final volume of this series in the coming days

I remember really disliking Emerald the first time I read this. I think it's because 1 I wanted more Sapphire and Ruby because they're my faves and it didn't look like they'd be involved initially and 2 after the cliffhanger from the previous arc I really wanted to know what happened with that, not watch some character I didn't care about fight pokemon battles which had no stakes. Now I'm rereading it and Emerald is.... fine. He's still my least favourite of the protagonists though

With the end of the FireRed/LeafGreen arc, there are many mixed emotions. Primarily, how much of a fun ride it was seeing these 3 kids (as well as Yellow and Silver) deal with the remnants of Team Rocket and Deoxys. On the other end, MAJOR bummer of an ending, which segues nicely into the Emerald arc, but still, rather jarring.
Emerald on the other hand, I couldn't stand for several reasons. Denying mah boi Wally the chance to be a Pokedex Holder just because he doesn't have a ridiculous color/precious metal/precious stone name even though he has A) a starter of the region and B) has actually used the Pokedex just strikes me off as LET'S PUT A GOOFY INSPECTOR GADGET-TYPE DUDE INTO THIS MANGA mandate from higher ups who feel like the comic has taken a more mature turn, and need to rope in the kids again **coughcoughJustintheBlueTurboRangercoughcough**.
2nd of all, I never liked the Battle Frontier. Super SUPER difficult for me who played it in college and each of these "Frontier Brains" just struck me as "diet Gym Leaders." So the fact the whole arc revolves around this goofball who treats one of the most difficult things in the world of pokemon as a "hobby" made me feel inadequate, yes, but also seems to be disrespectful to the legacy of heroes that have held a Pokedex before him.
But, it all culminates in a great end if I remember right, so we continue reading!

I just really love Pokémon, y’all! I like how dark the Pokémon Adventures manga is, and how creative the battling is.

Manga continues to be perfect for my reading slump because it is short and fun and non-stop action.
