What the fuck I look like turning down some head / Just tell me where you want it, on the floor or the bed? (I’m Tasty – Pink Dollaz).
This is the part where I act contrite and shy by being all like, “omg I don’t even know what I was getting into when I started this manga,” but that’d be a total lie. I knew what Dick Fight Island would be like, I knew what was up. I'm just at that point where I really don't feel any shame for the things I read anymore. What am I, religious? The rise of moral purity and all those folks who worry themselves sick about whether or not the art they’re consuming is problematic has me going all the way in the opposite direction. Give me that freaky shit right now! In fact, even though this is the first time I’ve literally sat down and read this damn thing, I’ve actually been well acquainted with Dick Fight Island for some time now. It’s kind of funny because sometimes whenever I happen upon a book while scrolling, a quick review pops into my head like an intrusive thought where I'm thinking, "if I read that, this is what I would say." Take the The Harry Hole Mysteries for example, I'm always wondering how nobody has written a review talking about “trying to get in Harry Hole’s hairy hole” or something of that sort. Somebody please read those books and write that specific review because otherwise I'm going to have to do it... and I don't want to. So yeah, the first time I crossed paths with this manga, I immediately imagined myself saying something like, “Hi, one ticket to Dick Fighting Island, please.” and I would call it there, but unfortunately I’ve lost the ability for brevity. I don’t know how to shut my mouth anymore! This is where I’m supposed to tell you what Dick Fight Island is about, but that’d be kind of silly, right? Dick Fight Island is about dick fighting on an island! No but really, this manga is about a bunch of sexy dudes from all of the world who gather on an island to compete in a highly regarded tournament to… I don’t know, win prize money or something? Only, instead of a Dragon Ball Z kind of deal where we get to see master martial artists testing their skills, contestants of the dick fighting tournament only win the match when they finish off their opponent, if you catch my drift. The only way to complete the fight is by stroking the other guy to completion. “Is somebody gonna match my freak? Need somebody with a good technique, Is somebody gonna match my nasty? Pillow talking got my throat raspy.” Okay look, the whole thing is just a thinly veiled pretense to draw hot men with their thangs thangin' and their thiddies bouncing thiddily. It's a dumb manga, but like, who needs allegory when you can just create a premise like "gay sex Hunger Games?"
Otherwise, speaking from a completely objective standpoint and not the typical crass homosexual you’re used to hearing from, I actually loved the art in Dick Fight Island, and it’s not just because of the dick fighting. It's a good looking manga, I'm serious! The thing is, I've never been a big fan of Yaoi art because the chins are always way too pointy, the fingers too long, and it sucks because there are these men who are treated like gods in-universe while all I'm seeing are creatures out here looking like that fucked up alien-human hybrid in Alien: Romulus. They’re always saying, “isn’t he so beautiful?” and it’s like, not with that brontosaurus neck, they’re not! How's the weather up there, Little Foot? But with this manga, everything is properly… er, in proportion. “B-Booty, b-booty butt cheeks!” And I know I’m taking this way too far in the direction of serious analysis when "anal" is the only aspect of the word that's pertinent to this manga, but I should mention that I enjoyed how diverse the contestants in the tournament were. It has always irritated me how most manga have one specific mold of the “pretty anime boy” look that's considered attractive because it so limiting. They go for the Overwatch approach to character design, whilst (yes, I’m using the word “whilst” in a review for a manga called Dick Fight Island) with Dick Fight Island, everybody has a very distinct look and body type (to a certain extent) and can be immediately picked out of a line-up. I mean, if not for their names, then definitely for the size of their shlongs! Also, while all the dudes are fit as fuck and walk around with huge Johnson's, I still found this manga more funny than anything. It’s just that when a story oversexualizes something to the point of impracticality, it lends itself to humor more than sexual arousal. Nonetheless, it was cool how the classic trope of “scantily clad women” was flipped it on the side by having it so the men were the ones who were hyper-sexualized. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like this manga is a champion of feminism or whatever, we’re not reading Maya Angelou here, but it's still refreshing to see the tables turned every now and then. Anyway, I think that’s it, if I talk any more about this manga it’ll start to get weird. All in all, Dick Fight Island was pretty wild and the techniques used were completely out of pocket, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do when you’re thrust in the middle of a cock fight!

This was quite the treat. Happy fucking Birthday to me. I adored this story.
The title of the Manga is rather self-explanatory. It is an island where disturbingly handsome men fight with their dicks. In this universe, conflict has progressed from bloodletting and body counts to who can make a prince climax the fastest. Fun for the whole family!
My favorite thing about this was the art. Historically, all the princes who have "fought" before have changed their "armor" from basic "protection" to intricate works of art meant to hide secret weapons and entice the opponent. This is a culture that believes in the heavenly glory of the ass, so every man of age showcases their taut firm buttocks in their designer chaps.
There are many characters to be followed, and this is perhaps where the story suffers the most. You want it to turn into an ASOIAFian tome where every character and their childhood dog's backstory is shared. Such was their grasp on my attention that when we'd switch POVs I'd shake my device with frustration. Maybe this is why I struggle with comic books and graphic novels, I'm always wanting more.
The story does spend an inordinate amount of time espousing the virtues of engaging the prostate in coital activity. And I was here. for. it. It takes itself so seriously that you just can't help but wish reality was this simple. That conflict resolution was this pleasurable. That men had asses this bita... I think I lost myself for a minute there.
Aside from gratuitous mutually assured masturbation fight sequences, there are romantic arcs in this brief Manga. Thankfully, some were left open to interpretation, or as my newly 28 year old cynical ass likes to call it, sequel-baiting. And am I baited? You're damn right I am. I can't wait to see where Ike takes this story.

This manga was absolutely wild. I mean completely and totally wild and I loved every single panel. Is it for everyone? Nope. I will be very mindful of who I rec this to because for some it will be too much. What I loved about it was the hidden sweetness that you don’t expect to see going into it. There were so many cute relationships that I smiled the entire time. This manga is a laugh out loud joy ride that I couldn’t put down. I literally cannot wait to get my hands on volume 2!

I can only explain this with a temporary state of insanity on my part. I am super tired and in a zombie-like state.
This manga is absolutely ridiculous, meaning the story and it's exactly what the title says. The longer I think about it, the funnier I find the whole thing, I still have to chuckle inside.
The drawings are pretty good, the characters beautiful.
Definitely not high literature even the dialogues are rather boring, but for the idea and the art at hand alone it's a good book.

Surprisingly Sweet
This was my first foray into Yaoi manga and I was expecting something crude but this was sweet really tastefully done.
Eight clans compete every four years to compete for the throne. This competition takes the form of one-on-one battles between selected clan champions, with battles continuing until one of the competitors ejaculates, at which point that competitor is declared the loser.
The eight clans are nicely developed with bits of lore about them revealed before each match, and all the competitors are noble and surprisingly wholesome, given the nature of their confrontations. The art is great with the large cast of champions easily recognizable, and the action scenes (of which there are many) are easy to follow.
This book is labelled Volume One and I'm hopeful there will be another published and that an English translation will eventuate.
Lots of fun and very recommended.

3.5 stars - This was as campy, wacky, and surprisingly heartwarming as I had been told. I did think the action scenes were difficult to follow (in contrast to the "action" scenes which were very easy to follow)

Put this one on the list of "books I wouldn't have thought to pick up if not for work." Dick Fight Island is basically what it sounds like - a battle manga about guys waging war with their wangs, albeit perhaps not in the way you're thinking. Then again, it's published by SuBLime, so maybe it's exactly the way you're thinking - because if you've ever read a shounen battle manga and thought, "Gee, I love all of this homoerotic subtext," then you are about to become one very, very happy reader.
And you know what? It's actually kind of fun. It's not my usual thing, but it has a good sense of humor about its ludicrous factor (in fact, I'd argue that it's deliberately silly), and there are a couple of genuinely sweet romance subplots. (Plus it's largely uncensored, which will make a difference to some readers.) I wouldn't suggest it for everyone, but if you're into goofy BL, this is a surprising amount of insane fun.
And you know what? It's actually kind of fun. The story is a bit mad. They've all trained for the tournament but are strangely innocent. The art is gorgeous and while there is a big cast, it's easy to tell them apart and get a grasp of their personalities

This BL is a little crazy. It’s centered around an island tournament where the first one to climax wins—this produces crazy dick armor and “subversive methods” that are insane and definitely entertaining. Happy Pride!
