D.Gray-man is the story of Allen Walker, who roams a fictional 19th century Earth in search of Innocence, a mysterious substance used to fight demons called akuma.
In the present, using a powerful technique to escape from his former comrades in the Black Order, Allen winds up taking himself and his surly frenemy Yu Kanda to Edinstown, England, where the story of Allen began. After sending a golem to find their allies General Tiedoll and Johnny Gill, Allen and Yu are confronted by a swarm of their long-time enemies, the akuma. In the past, the strange tale of Allen begins to unfold…

She drew her first manga at twenty-one. In 1998, Hoshino moved to Tokyo. She dreamed of bringing her mother to the city and was able to in 2006.
She made her debut with her comics in July 2003 with the publication of her first manga series Continue and is known for her work, D.Gray-man, which began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in May 2004.
NGL, the arc name is still so ominous. But damn, I love background info reveal. Chapter 231 had such a great last image. It made me feel so nostalgic. The pose, the smile. BUT EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT NOW.
But yikes, I thought the name Red was demeaning. Redarm is even worse.
Finally some more crumbs about OG!Allen. But wth is the pillar. even more mysteries. I wish we could just shake answers out of Cross.
Fav. Character: Allen, the dog. Sweetest one in the whole series.
It's been over a year since my last reread of this serie and I'm reading volume 27 and 28 without rereading from the beginning. And even without full context this volume managed to make me cry.
My favorite anime and manga series ever ;^; i really hope d.gray-man is able to continue on and find its ending at some point, there is still so much i don’t understand about mana and Allen’s relationship, the human-shaped innocence, the Noah, etc. We will wait for you to keep writing, Hoshino-san!!!
(spoilers) . . .
I really LOVE how Hoshino has allowed Kanda and Allen to bond <3 when he followed Allen into the ark to England in the previous volume, i loved it so much! I love to see Allen and Kanda interact in general, but now Allen can open up to him and they can fight side by side. Johnny was okay, but I’m glad they ditched him lol :p
I also like seeing more of Allen’s past. Though it’s tragic, the circus life intrigues me and it adds so much to Allen’s character development! At the beginning of the d.gray-man series, we see Allen as the average anime shonen MC who wants to protect their friends and defeat evil. But throughout the story, his character fleshes out and we learn more about him, his goals, the reason he’s always smiling, and the path he has “chosen”. That’s what is so great about storytelling, we get to see a character take form with so many different and unique and personable qualities! Allen’s character is more than just the sunshine hero boy, he has his faults and he has been through a lot and he is so much more!! Ahhh i just love these characters and i read this volume so fast because i was excited lol <3
I’m looking forward to purchasing volume 28 when it’s released so i can support the author! :)
And am finally caught up,and we r still in the dark, fine keep your secrets... I seriously need to know about Allen... So this coming is a summery to remind me about what happened so far
Mana+Nea= mellinum earl Mana devoured Nea to become the Earl, but as Mana he brainwashed himself and still looking for Nea..
Nea is the fourteenth and knows about Mana and the Earl and he is residing in Allen
Allen was called redarm, and he met Mana as his kind version looking for Nea, and he had a dog which was called Allen, and then oir Allen adopted the name
The Allen name source is unknown yet
Allen and Kanda are together on the run
I wonder when will I be reading the next vol.

Doggo Allen is the highlight of this volume, no doubt about it. He's adorable, supportive, and just the sweetest addition to Allen and Mana's backstory. Honestly, quite a bit of time passes between when I read these volumes, so it can be difficult to remember all the context from the previous volumes, but you can tell that everything that's happening is building towards something, and the volumes are still very enjoyable. This volume focuses on how Allen met Mana, how he shed tears that Mana could not, and how Mana took in Allen to be a part of his new act after doggo Allen passed away. The art is as gorgeous as it always is, and there's an amazing flow to the manga.

On stagne également.
On connait notre ennemi.
Readers get a closer look at Allen before he was Allen. It’s astonishing how much he was once like Kanda; short-tempered and recoiling from any kind of affection, no matter how badly he might need it. Mana had a lot to do with shaping the kind-hearted, gentle Allen Walker I’ve gotten to know. The development of how Mana and the boy who will become Allen met at the circus, becoming the Pierrot and the Clown is developed. The shadow of the Millennium Earl hangs over Mana who seems to be on the run as Allen later will be on the run. On the run, always searching for Nea while from the shadows both Cross Marian and Road Kamelot are watching.
This was a fascinating story about Allen and Mana’s beginnings, building up and leading to more revelations about the Millennium Earl. All the while his shadow hangs over Mana. Mana, who becomes a clown in order to laugh, not grieve, because he’s terrified of summoning the Millennium Earl. Cross Marian and Road play enigmatic roles in stalking Mana, crossing each other’s paths, revealing hints about their motivations. Never had either character been more interesting. Once again I get the sense we’re looping back to the original story while moving forward into the more complex plot and character tapestry which have been woved into the story. I’m excited for more.

D.Gray-man, oh D.Gray-man, where should I even start with this amazing series?
It honestly makes me a little sad that this series isn't as well known as I honestly think it should be. It mixes action, comedy, drama and even some horror extremely well and the growth of the characters throughout the 27 volumes currently published is astonishing! It's really something I think others should read.
The first 2 volumes are good, not great, but not bad either. They're a little generic and feel like a Gothic reskin of Fullmetal Alchemist, but starting with the 3rd volume, the series starts to evolve into something more than just a darker version of Fullmetal Alchemist. This evolution is slow, but by the 24th volume, D.Gray-man and Fullmetal Alchemist aren't even that comparable. Anyways, the art also evolves greatly throughout the series, and the writing and characters all improve as well. I know some fans aren't a fan of the current direction, but I'm really enjoying the story Katsura Hoshino is telling us.
D.Gray-man is, in my opinion, one of the best series I've ever read. I'm excited for the 28th volume to be published, whenever that will be. I'll wait patiently, however.
9.5 out of 10 for the first 27 volumes.

I am now in love with a new series. It did take some time since the start is REALLY slow and I found myself kind of bored at some times but it definitely did not disappoint from the appearance of the Noahs it got really god and the Alma & Kanda arc was SO INTENSE and after that the story really picked up and + Mana & Allen flashbacks hurrtttttt
D. Gray-man is one of those manga that you never know when it'll update due to the mangaka (Katsura Hoshino) frequently being ill. But when it does, the payoff is worth it. I love reading more into the beginnings of Allen Walker, Mana, and the Noahs. Seeing Road was a real treat in this volume and I love seeing her on the cover again.
I honestly love this series so much and I'm so happy I can now support the author when I couldn't before as a broke middle schooler. I can't wait for the next volume to be translated so I can read it. This series shows how war is never black and white. Even when you truly believe you're fighting on the side of good, not everything is morally good.
This was a good and disturbing volume that did start humorously and gave the characters something to do. Yet it led into a desturbing backstory of Allen and what he was like as a child. Yet at the same time I loved the dog Allen in the backstory and I found how he was the first point of happiness. Yet it led to a very dark end with a touching moment that led to a funny moment.
I read the last 17 volumes of this manga this year but it was making a mess of my reading challenge so I’m adding the last one only. Anyway it’s a pretty solid fantasy shonen manga with a pretty standard premise followed by a good development. Really cool aesthetic which helps a lot too lol
