Rooster Teeth Productions is an American production company located in Austin, Texas and Los Angeles, California involved primarily in the production of machinima (films created in real-time video game environments) with its long-running series Red vs. Blue, as well as live action shorts and series, comedy gameplay with the branch Achievement Hunter, and full animated productions such as RWBY and X-Ray and Vav. Rooster Teeth hosts its convention, RTX, annually in Austin, Texas.
Rooster Teeth was founded by Burnie Burns, Matt Hullum, Geoff Ramsey, Gus Sorola, and Joel Heyman in 2003. Burns created voice-over-enhanced gameplay videos of Bungie Studios' popular first-person shooter video game Halo: Combat Evolved. Eventually, these videos led to the creation of Red vs. Blue, which premiered in April 2003 and is still in production, making it the longest-running web series of all time. The production team also focuses on projects such as reality shows, video game development, entertainment news programs and podcasts. Rooster Teeth will release its feature film debut Lazer Team, a science fiction action comedy film in 2016.
The company's videos are released on its website and YouTube, on which it controls a multi-channel network and maintains over 8.3 million subscribers and over 4.1 billion video views on its primary channel, as of December 2015.
This is by far the best volume in this anthology collection! How was this so much better than the previous installments?
There were so many stories that were touching (one nearly made me cry), some made me love. They were engaging even though they were short! (Proving that it could be done!)
I know this volume had the benefit of hindsight, being published when Vol. 7 of the original series had already been out, but even so, it managed what the previous four part couldn’t: really tap into the emotional aspects of the story, the characters and the relationships even on such short page counts!
That btw also means that for this one you’ll need the most knowledge of the show. You can’t really read it if you don’t know RWBY itself (arguably true for the first four volumes, too, but just especially true for this one, especially since volumes 1-4 only focused on the first three seasons of RWBY, while this one includes episodes up to season seven).
Yes, there were still some funny and/or silly stories in the mix, but the collection was actually nicely balanced out. I really enjoyed this one!
“RWBY: Official Manga Anthology, Vol. 5: Shine” is a collection of short comics all centered on Team JNPR (Juniper), from the world of Remnant & the animated web-series RWBY (created by the late Monty Oum & continued by Rooster Teeth Animation). Whether you consider it anime (it is) or anime-like, it’s wonderful to get some focus on Team JNPR (Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha, & Ren). None of them are revolutionary, but they give us more time with the characters for side stories & introspection. It’s especially nice to see more Pyrrha. I also really loved the message from each of their voice actors at the end of the volume. Truly only for fans of RWBY, as anyone else would probably be lost & there are some spoilers for the series.
Jaune and Pyrrah are my favorites so I loved seeing stories with the two of them. This collection seemed more realistic to the characters and the plot than the past volumes, so that was nice.
Cute stories and art, but the volume assumes a good bit of knowledge from the anime. Stories do get a little further into some things than the is able too, but the general plot/feeling if some of the later sketches started to seem repetitive.
This was so freaking sweet!! P.S.- we need manga anthologies for CFVY, SSSN, and all of the villains (including Emerald who redeemed herself, but still haha)
Another enjoyable RWBY biography. Like the previous four instalments (centred around the protagonists), 'Shine' should only be read after Volume 3 (and preferably Volume 7). Each story, more so than the previous anthologies, was unique, however, likely because there are four characters to focus on rather than one. That being said, the stories centred around Jaune were all similar, perhaps a critique of the character rather than the anthology. Overall, I would recommend 'Shine' to any RWBY fan. Books like these keep me sane between Volumes.
This was amazing! As a fan of RWBY, I especially loved JNPR, so them in manga form was so interesting. I was actually staring to get teary-eyed as I was reading the actor's thank yous in the back of the book, knowing who was there and who wasn't. Can't wait for volume eight of this amazing show and thank you to rooster teeth for letting fans works be included in this book.
Unlike the other volumes, this really requires some reasonable show knowledge going in. Its also focused on their tropes way too much for me. A character has died and this book is kind of a look at the emotional aftermath. Having not watched that far in the show myself, I had little emotional investment and found this book a little hard to motivate myself to finish.
This revived all of my dormant feelings for RWBY and Team JNPR🥺 Most of this volume dealt with Jaune and Pyrrha (rather than Ren and Nora) but the sincerity in those little vignettes made up for the lack of Renora overall.
I absolutely loved this book, the art is lovely and the story's are great, the only thing I wish was different about it, was if they had done separate story's of each member of JNPR as they did with RWBY inserted of Just one book. Other than that an amazing read
I feel cheated. I came here for a good laugh, which I did get, but I also got a lot of crying. How can I not cry every other second?! Pyrrha..... I miss you!
I feel like the first four could have been shortened and made into one volume. But I get it, those four were written early on and this one came much later. Maybe then we could have gotten one for each member of JNPR? Idk, they were ok, this one was my favorite. That’s it.
