Becky Mackenzie is certain she knows who poisoned the judge in a pie-baking contest at an annual festival in Savannah. After a bit of snooping, she’s shocked to learn her father is mixed up in all of this. Could it also be true that he has been stepping out on her mother?
On top of that, there’s trouble in paradise with Adam. Becky has bad luck. Even Madame Cecelia is afraid to tell her what her latest Tarot card reading means. All of her relationships are in shambles, and even the ghosts in the cemetery are avoiding her.
Can Becky get out of her jams in time to solve another creepy murder?
I really love this series. This book was really emotionally tense for Becky and us. She has never been on outs with her parents before but in this book she just couldn't get anything right in their eyes. The fair has come to town and everyone is excited about the week of events, rides and food. Becky goes to visit her friend Cecelia tent for a reading and the cards show something not right and Cecelia won't tell her what it is. Then she misses her daddy's show and a murder takes place at the pie eating contest. She certain she knows who did it but why did it happen. Things at home aren't good. Her parents are mad at her and they seem to not be speaking to each other. Something is going on with Adam also. Her life seems to be spinning out of control like one of the carnival rides. My heart went to her. It was like everyone was against her and she had no ideal how to fix it all. The mystery of the book was totally on point. I never guessed who was the killer. I loved it and can't wait for Becky's next adventure. I voluntarily agreed to review this book. My review is my own honest opinion.
The 20's are roaring once more, with Becky somehow in the middle of another murder in Savannah. With family problems (and ties to the murder), boy troubles, and the constant pain in the rear cousin problems, the summer fair isn't quite as fun as past years. Unfortunately the book wasn't as strong as other in the series, or maybe I'm disenchanted with any year ending in 20 right now! While the mystery was good, the rest seemed overly packed with 1920's slang and pointless running around. But, if you like historical novels, you will enjoy this one with well researched authenticity and exquisite details.
I was only half way through the first page when I found myself hooked on this book. I read it all in one sitting (minus taking the dog out). There were so many interesting things happening in this book that I had to keep reading until I finished. You have Becky, the main character, trying to piece together the reason for a murder, wondering if everything was alright with her family and a possible falling out with her beau Adam. A lot of wonderful people were in this latest book, some new friends and, of course, my favorites were included. Becky learns some really wonderful things about her family, friends and life in general. A really fantastic read and now one of my favorites.
Becky is more subdued this time. She is having some relationship concerns. Her parents seem to be at odds. Becky is not partying as much either. Definitely she seems more serious in this book. There is a murder at the fair and it rattles her. Of course she has to stick her nose into solving the case. Her circle of friends are still around but the book does center more on Becky this time. I liked the book. The guilty party was a surprise. I always like a book that surprises me.
This another good read. Rebecca follows a suspicious person and sees something that makes her think she knows who killed the pie contest judge and ends up feeling distressed when it appears things are going to be changing for the worst at home.
Fun new characters and some not so nice ones are introduced.
Excellent as always, I really enjoy this series. Becky Mackenzie is certain she knows what's going on with a Murder in town but she's also certain she has no idea what's going on with her parents or how they could be involved but she's going to find out. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw.
I received this arc in return for an honest review. I love this series. It just keeps getting better and better. This mystery starts at the yearly fair. Becky is determined to find out who poisoned the pie in the contest. However, there is so much more going on and it takes on many twists and turns. I could not figure out who did it. Great mystery. Can't wait until the next one.
I’m not usually a historical cozy mystery person but I loved this authors other books so I gave this series a try. I really like it a lot. Strong female main character who can at times be silly. This book is a great addition to the series. I look forward to reading the next one.
This is a quick, fun read that does not require you to have read any other books in the series. The characters and fun and you love them all. All of them are fully fleshed out and are interesting.
