Fighting for his mate

When John Krieger rescues a stranded fox shifter in the middle of a snowstorm, he never expected that she would turn out to be his mate. However, the darkness lurking in his soul prevents him from claiming her and he pushes her away. When he realizes his mistake, he vows to make himself into someone who deserves her. He spends the next few months fighting off his demons, so he could someday be good enough for Dutchy Forrester. But, when he unexpectedly encounters her again, he realizes she’s not the same--and she might never be again.

Fighting for her life

Ever since her mate’s utter rejection, Dutchy Forrester’s life has gone into a deep spiral. Her world has literally become colorless and lifeless, and she’s not sure she can recover. When tragedy strikes and her life is put in danger, she discovers that not only have her shifter abilities left her, but her fox doesn’t recognize Krieger as their mate.

Krieger vows to repair their bond and fix her fox, but can she trust him to not break her heart again? Or will she forever live in a dull, colorless world as her condition deteriorates?

This is yet another hit in the Blackstone Ranger series. This one is a lot angstier than the previous instalments, but despite the difference in tone, I gobbled it up in one sitting.
John Krieger has a tragic past, and he’s clearly dealing with PTSD and, as a result, he’s unable to fully control his bear. To cope, he’s isolated himself in the mountains, focusing on patrolling the border and ensuring that hikers and shifters stay safe. He doesn’t expect that he has a mate, and when he meets her, he knows it’s in her best interest for him to push her away.
Dutchy designs wedding dresses for a living, so she’s used to being surrounded by shifters and their mates and observing their happy ever afters from the sidelines. She’s ecstatic when she meets her mate--but devastated when she finds out that he has no intention of being her happy ever after.
This book has all the feels, and I was gripping tight on the handlebars during the roller coaster ride of emotions John and Duchy put me through. Another solid instalment in this series!

DNF @ 50%

I didn’t have super high hopes from the cover, but the blurb teased a rejected mate situation, so I thought I’d give it a shot. And it does sort of have a rejection, but it’s for a valid-ish reason (it’s introduced very early) , so it takes some of the sting out of it. Not to mention EVERYTHING could have been settled with ONE conversation explaining things.

Further killing my feels, we skipped completely over the entire time she was dying inside while he was struggling to better himself. The rest (until I quit) was filled from secondary characters filler and the continuation of them not communicating the reason he did what he did.

Bottom Line- John and Dutchy had potential, but I got bored with the lack of feels.

Lack of communication

I have read a common theme to these books and that is a lack of communication. Most of the time just one sentence would help but they just keep silent or use avoidance to keep a big misunderstanding going. The s stories are full of page filler but they are entertaining. Good read.

Damn this series is getting better with every book released.
Dutchy and Krieger have an explosive chemistry that just about melts the pages whilst your reading.
Talk about steamy!

A wonderful book with excellent characters and storyline, it’s one to really hold the attention, and also answer some questions fans have been asking for a long time.

A must read for all who love Alicia’s books.

Good read

Krieger met Duckess while he was patrolling in the middle of a bad snow storm. She was just about frozen stiff but he took her to his cabin and when she thawed out he made love to her. Then when she was going back to her house he just left her. Now there had been a car hit her and she was not healing right. Krieger stayed with her even though she didn't want him there.

Oh man. This story started off hot and heavy then turned kinda sad for Dutchy. I understood what John was going through but man I felt for him and Dutchy. But they finally did reach their HEA and it was all so very satisfying to read. Loved reading their journey together.

He has been living in the mountains to avoid people because of his past. As he makes his patrols, his bear senses a faint footsteps and finds a half frozen fox in a middle of a snowstorm. He heads back towards his cabin with the fox to rest as the storm rages outside. Dutchy Forrester is a talented artistic designer and she loves creating fashion clothes for the clients that she works for. She took a break to enjoy the fresh air provided by the mountains but she did not saw the approaching storm. She wakes up to find herself in a log cabin and freezes when she realized that a man has been holding her tightly to his chest. Dutchy decides to get up but he was faster than her and then she saw who the person was and recognizes that it was her mate. They spent a passionate night with each other and reached a blissful peak as they were caught by the desires of the bond. However, Krieger has a PTSD due to his dark past When Dutchy insists to head back, he pushes her away and tells her to go back without him. He does not want her to find out how tainted his soul is His rejection broke her heart as she went to depression and that's how she cannot see colors anymore. Her fox was running when she collided with a car and left her with serious injuries. These past few months, he was trying to become a better man for her so he could try to come back to her mate. However, he is not expecting that leaving her behind would lead to a more complicated problems He promises to try anything to fix her again and win his mate no matter how long it takes. The story has a good character development and life lessons as Krieger tries to overcome his past. It took him a while to It has an action, drama, and romantic scenes as the relationship between the characters develop. I enjoyed reading the book and I am finally happy that Krieger and Dutchy has a HEA epilogue as their mating bond is formed.

Best if read in order, but not necessary

I actually jumped into this book first, rather than reading the series in order. I'm pretty sure I saw an ad for it and decided to just go for it. The author does a pretty good job at filling in any blanks you may have about incidents from the previous books, so despite me wondering a couple of times how one of the secondary characters ended up in a particular situation, I wasn't left floundering in the storyline.

John Krieger is mostly a loner who lives by himself in a cabin up in the mountains. He and his bear struggle to be around other people after going through some traumatic things in his past. While out patrolling, a freak snowstorm hit, and he found a fox shifter close to death from exhaustion and the cold. It didn't take him long to realize it was his mate. Not believing he was worthy of her and not being able to give her the life she deserved, when she recovers enough to return home, he tells her to leave and remains alone in the mountains.

This rejection breaks Dutchy. She's not who she was before she met Krieger and is left unable to heal like regular shifters and becomes colorblind. When he finally reappears in her life, her fox wants nothing to do with him. He vows to fix things, but it isn't that easy.

"Blackstone Rangers: Guardian" has a good plot and backstory. The world building has been well written and consistent (as far as I can tell, since I didn't read the first 4 books), and I think the series would be good for those who like shifter romances with some spice, plot and character building.

Two of my favorite Blackstone characters find their mates!

I've been intrigued (to say the least) about Krieger right from the start. I knew his story was going to be epic, and I was not disappointed. Dutchy has been a background character for quite a while, and finding out that she's Krieger's mate was absolutely glorious!

Their initial meeting was HOT HOT HOT!! John speaks VOLUMES without ever saying a word! But real life eventually intrudes, and their separation is truly heartbreaking. As they struggle to figure out how to make their obvious connection work as a bonded mate relationship, they also have to contend with evil forces threatening the shifters of Blackstone Mountain.

I love the way the author makes her characters work for their HEAs. It's not enough just to know who your mate is and enjoy that intense physical connection, they also have to work through all the emotional obstacles that keep them from sharing their whole selves with each other. Yeah, great sex is wonderful, but it takes a lot more than that to build a future together, and these stories show the pure heart-satisfying bliss that can be achieved by working together to build that kind of love.

Blackstone has long been one of my favorite fictional places in Romancelandia, and I'm thrilled to know that John and Dutchy are a part of that world. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Soooooo many questions answered!! Loved it!!

Following the cliff hanger of dutchys condition in the last book, i was literally chomping at the bit to read this book and as for wanting to know more about this mysterious giant Kreiger, who has been stealthily saving everyone I had high expectations for this book. But as always Alicia Montgomery delivers with another fantastic edition to the series with real highs and lows for both Dutchy and Kreiger, obviously some very naughty but fun scenes thrown in and an obligatory HEA! Kreiger is not only built like a mountain, he has a personality to match, initially I didnt really see how they fit together, but opposites not only attract they make some very hot sparks along the way. I also was shocked to finally find out what animal JD Is!!! And Eeeek! I need to read her story, like yesterday, please, please let hers be the next book! And to top it all off Tim is also finally getting his frisky on!! But I can't believe there is only one book left in the series, we need Petros's story too!!

I voluntarily reviewed an arc copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

One lost fox. One lone grizzly bear. When John rescued Dutchy from the snow he didn’t initially realise that he was her mate. Although their mating instinct is too strong to ignore, they both live very different lives. John’s past is the driving force behind his current lifestyle. He lives up a mountain, and has limited contact with the outside world. Dutchy on the other hand has her work, friends and family. He believes it is better for her to let her go. When she gets injured in the latest danger to hit Blackstone he knows he can’t stay away from her any longer. What he didn’t expect to find was that his actions had broken her. She is now a shadow of her former self and her fox is unwilling to let him get close to her again. He will do anything to put things right no matter how long it takes, but has he left it too late? This story packs quite a punch. On the one hand we’ve got John’s tragic tortured past, on the other we’ve got the consequences of his rejecting his mate. This is the story I've been waiting for. It’s emotional, gritty and one that tugs on your heartstrings.

I was gifted an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest unbiased review.
Straight from the start the action commences. The ‘sexy stuff’ overrides everything else and then real life starts to unravel around the new pairing. Alicia is talented at weaving the action in around events that have happened in previous books but it’s subtlety allows standalone readers to understand. The tug of war between John & Duchy keeps the intrigue going until the very end with some real laugh out loud moments involving other couples. The characters are so real that each and every nuance is replayed consistently throughout the series. I awarded a four star as I felt that a major plot line towards the end of the story needed more input, time and prepping as I am sure it will develop into the next book but wouldn’t have taken anything away from the guardian book. As always I am left excited for the next one!!

Accommodations were made to ease grizzly ranger loner John Kreiger to civilization as he was still suffering from PTSD. In a sudden storm, John found semi-frozen designer Duchess ‘Dutchy’ Forrester, acknowledging each other as mates, they celebrated in his hermit cabin. Afraid crowds will trigger his bear John didn’t go when Dutchy anxiously went home to town.

Determined to make himself a better man, months pass, John doesn’t talk to Dutchy but slowly makes progress on his issue. Meanwhile, Dutchy’s excitement and lust for life begin to fade and she withdraws into herself though John’s unaware of her growing problem.

Dutchy is severely injured in an accident triggering John’s regret, desire for their claiming and knowledge he can’t hide and heal on his own anymore. Dutchy’s hospitalized and treated as a human when her shifter healing doesn’t kick in. That’s new, so now what?!? Boys unite!

Enjoyable and entertaining, even if John was a complete moron at times. He does eventually sort himself out and does some very nice things for Duchy along the way to her forgiveness.
Felt sorry for Duchy going through such a tough time but her vixen was a smart cookie.
Liked how this overlaps with Anders story.
Just thought it stupid they didn’t keep one of the poachers alive for information. John was ex special forces so should have known better.
Nice to have everyone together at one point.
And boy aren’t we teased about JD. We finally get to know her shifter animal but get another secret surprise thrown at us with JD.
Loved Aunt Angela and Tim getting caught.
This is my honest review of this book.

This is the best one yet!

John Krieger is the Blackstone Ranger that basically watches and protects from the shadows. Dutchy Forrester is the designer goddess of Blackstone. They know they're fated mates, but John was so damaged overseas when he was active Special Forces he stays apart in the mountains. Dutchy wants to know everything about him but doesn't understand PTSD. It takes an accident that almost kills her for him to understand her pain at his rejection and really try to fix their bond. There are several spots that had me rolling with laughter. First, her aunt Angela then again with JD. Talk about awkward. I highly recommend reading John and Dutchy's story.

Finally Krieger's story.

Excellent series! I have been waiting for Krieger's story. The way he kept popping in and out of the books prior I knew you, Alicia, wouldn't let me down. Krieger has a secret that only the men that were in his military unit knew. While letting his bear run he caught a scent he had never smelled before. He followed it, and found what he believes is his mate buried in the snow. After bringing her back to his cabin to dry her off he commenced really making it harder to convince Dutchy she is his mate. Great job on this book Alicia!! Definitely had me going on this one. Can't wait for the next one. Definitely recommend this book to those of you who love those alpha shifters!

Another great addition to this terrific series!

This was a heartbreaking, emotional roller-coaster of a story, but in the end, everything was how it was meant to be. I loved that these two finally got their HEA, as it was well deserved. I'm not sure who the next story is about, but I really wish that there was going to be more in this series.
For those who haven't already read it, I would highly recommend reading the Blackstone Dragons series. It's not necessary, but it will give you more insight about the characters, their connections, and the dynamics of the town they all call home. They're all fantastic stories, just like this series, so you won't be disappointed!
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

Terrific shifters romance

John Kreiger is a Special Forces grizzly shifter, loner, and ranger. He has PTSD, also. While on patrol he finds his mate, a fox shifter during a blizzard. After the blizzard, he leaves her go back up to his cabin.

Unfortunately, she so developed depression from not forming the mating bond. Duchy is injured and want nothing to do with him.

Characters of John and Duchy both suffers from PTSD in one form or other, stubborn, and misubderstand each other. This vivid portrayal shifter bonding in the quick story that bring home trauma can happen anywhere. I like the personalities of the main characters, their struggles, and ultimately triumps.

Highly recommended this very moving story.

Forgiveness is not so easy when It’s you who needs forgiveness.

John helps everyone from behind the scenes in the deep woods, but when a feisty little fox needs his help he is the one who gets everything he’s ever dreamed of. It’s too bad he has a past that stops him from acting faster.
Dutchy finally finds her mate only to lose him. She dims and the world dims until she can barely function.
Alicia has spun a tale of love and heartbreak that revolves around self forgiveness while involving a cast of characters we’ve been following from the other stories in the series. This is a wonderful addition to the Blackstone Rangers and all the other books revolving around the the mountains. I would recommend this book to all who believe in fate and the healing power of love.

Tortured souls find comfort in each other. In this latest installment of the Blackstone Ranger Guardian series, Ms. Montgomery helps the reader to better understand an enigmatic character who has appeared throughout the series. I truly enjoy the way she revisits events from prior books from a different character's perspective so the reader sees events that occurred during the timeline of the earlier story. Once again, the characters come to life for the reader in such a way that you feel their struggles and cheer for them to overcome their challenges.
I was fortunate to win an ARC of this book to be able to read it early, and provide an honest review.

This book was amazing! Krieger and Dutchy just might be my favorite couple. Okay, I say that with each new release. But, they really were great together. There were a few times I wanted to grab Krieger and shake him, but the thought never lasted long. Everything he did, he put his whole heart into it. Even though they both new they were mates, HEA won't come easy. Nothing worth having ever does. There are a bunch of surprises here and I won't be the one to spoil them. J.D. is a........nope, not gonna tell you. If you have followed the series, you definitely don't want to skip this one. I was lucky enough to receive an early copy and this is my honest opinion.

Guardian

John Krieger is one of the Blackstone Rangers and a bear shifter. He guards Contessa Peak in the Blackstone Mountains. When he rescues a red fox, who is nearly frozen in the snow, she is also a shifter named Dutchess Forrester, aka Dutchy. Realizing they are mates, they spend two days in his cabin until the snow storm passes that caused Dutchy to almost freeze to death. Suddenly aware of his past violent actions, he rejects Dutchy and it causes her downward spiral into depression and losing her Fox and her sense of color. Can he fix the damage he has done to himself and to her. Only patience and time will tell.

John Krieger is a loner. He's a ranger assigned to a very solitary side of the mountain. After being in the military and coming home suffering from PTSD, he needs to be alone, then he meets his mate.

Dutchy Forrester gets caught in a freak storm and ends up meeting her mate, John Krieger. All is fine until the storm ends and they have to return to their regular lives. Dutchy doesn't know what John considers regular. When he rejects her because he doesn't feel worthy of her, it tears her down. He'll have a lot to learn and share to get her back.

I was waiting for John's story and it did not disappoint! I loved it.

I love the Blackstone universe of characters, and this book is another reason why. We’ve been introduced to “Krieg” over the entire Blackstone Ranger series. Little snippets here and there. But it allows the reader to become invested in him, so that by the time we get to his story, I just want him to find his love and be happy. I knew Dutchy was going to have her story at some point. Her character was introduced in the Blackstone Mountain series. I love both of these characters so it was heartwarming to see their relationship develop.

Can’t wait for the next story, which has GOT to be J.D.’s story. She also deserves a happy ever after.

After a bear shifter with PTSD working as a forest ranger finds a freezing fox shifter in a sudden mountain snowstorm they find that they are mates.

Being mates doesn't mean it's. Easy though, as his PTSD won't let him live in town or be in crowds, so he drops her off at the next lowest ranger station down the mountain without explaining why. His rejection throws her into deep depression, letting her fox side run almost feral. it takes a kidnapping, missing shifters, almost getting killed, and being caught by poachers stealing shifters for the two of them to get their heads and lives straight and figure out how to have what they want.

GAAAAAAH!!! There's so much here - getting to know Kreiger better, learning more about the Darcey & Dutchy conversation in book 4... And of course, DRUMROLL PLEASE, what JD is! (Yeah right, like I'm gonna tell you and ruin that great reveal!)

Plus, the gang gets together! Oh, the Kreiger and Dutchy story is absolutely page turning, but I'm not gonna spoil that either. All I can say is that it's a great story, and a wonderful wrap-up for our (former) soldier boys.

BTW, I received an ARC (advance reader copy) of this book in exchange for an honest review. But I'm planning on buying it too!
