John Smith’s world exploded. Literally. His sister murdered, he ran from the intelligence agencies of his own country. Every covert entity in the world wanted him for the information he alone could access. They killed everyone he cared about to get it. He had one chance at survival. Guardian.
Shae Diamant’s undercover operation for the Mossad led her into the inner circle of hell. Three years’ work crumbled beneath her feet. Her alias ruined, she knew it was only time before Stratus eliminated her.
A hidden message discovered by Guardian’s elite computer specialist sends both Guardian and John Smith into action. Was this a trap to lure John into his enemy’s hands? It didn’t matter. Nothing would stop him from following that lead. That’s where he finds the woman who would change his life forever.
USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Author, Kris Michaels is the alter ego of a happily married wife and mother. She writes romance, usually with characters from military and law enforcement backgrounds.
Kris was born and raised in South Dakota. She graduated many years ago from a high school class consisting of 13 students (yes that is thirteen, eleven girls and two boys...lucky boys). She joined the military, met her husband, and traveled the world. Today she lives on the Gulf Coast and writes full time.
Kris is an avid people watcher and dreamer. The stories she writes are crafted around the hopes and dreams of a true romantic. She believes love is essential, people are beautiful, and everyone deserves a happy ending.
When she isn't writing Kris enjoys a full life revolving around family, friends, laughing, whiskey, and cold red wine. (Yes cold...don't judge.)
This is a great story. If I had one complaint it would be that this is supposed to be John's book but it is actually more Shae's. That is the only complaint I has the book is a great story of not only surviving but coming through stronger.
I think this on one of my favourite books of the series so far. That is saying a lot. I love the interconectivity of these book. I am glad that characters like Joy have been given touches of development along with the characters of this story. I am also glad John was given a moment to shine at the end of the story.
Another thing this book answers for is is some things that happened in Adam's book. The military action is at the begining and end of this book, story of love an rehabilitation and trust is awesome. Can't wait for the next book. This series has no spinoffs they are all integral to the whole series.
I wasn't looking forward to John's book, I thought it was going to be one of the weakest in the series ...but I was so wrong! He may have the most common name in the hope of blending in, but he does anything but blend. A loner by nature and design, he is happy just to be alive and more than happy to live out his days on The Ranch. Until he finds a broken shell of a woman, tortured, clinging to life and mentally destroyed, as he holds her hand begging her to fight, to live, he knows he will never be the same and he will hunt down those who tortured her. Shae is clawing her way through each day, minute by minute, inch by inch as she tries to re-enter the living, she is stubborn and feels she should do it alone, but one handsome cowboy manages to break through her shell where the doctors and psychologists failed, he convinces her it is ok to lean on others as you recover, to ask for help, to take the hand that is held out to you. Together they are stronger and they can face all their demons, even when the corruption and betrayal hits too close to home and destroys a part of your soul. I love this book, such strong characters and an awesome addition to Kings of Guardian World. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
When John who is very private rescues Shae who is a clearly broken soul, help each other heal from traumatic experiences, they form a bond that becomes a deep relationship neither ever expected to have. I just admire the author’s ability to take these emotionally flawed characters to a trusting relationship neither ever expected. The pace of this intriguing story was perfect. Never a dull moment and they come together to resolve traumatic events from their pasts. This is a fantastic story dealing with recovery that leads to a lifetime love. Well done!
It's been clear since very early on that the main male character had a horrific past and therefore keeps to himself despite being part of the Guardian family. So I think the majority of this author's readers had this at the top of their most anticipated list. Well let's just say it surpassed expectations and I did not see that twist coming. It was a very clever way to tie some plot threads together.
I’ve read most of the books in Kris Michaels’s Kings of Guardian series and, for the most part, enjoyed them. So when I discovered another series set in the same world—Guardian Defenders—I decided to give it a try. I downloaded Book 3 (John) because the blurb sounded interesting. Unfortunately, I can say without hesitation that this was the most boring book I’ve ever read. I genuinely couldn’t believe it came from the same author who gave us Kings of Guardian.
John Smith is the ranch manager on Frank’s farm. After surviving two attempts on his life in his previous profession, Guardian faked his death and gave him a new identity and a quiet life on the farm. While investigating new leads related to his sister’s murder, John and his team stumble upon a woman who’s been tortured and is moments from death. That woman is Shae Diamant, a Mossad agent who fell into the hands of Stratus. She’s rescued and brought to the farm, where she spends months recovering. During that time, she and John grow closer.
I had high hopes for this series, given how much I enjoyed the author’s previous work. Sadly, those hopes were dashed. The characters were flat and one-dimensional. The storytelling lacked depth, and I couldn’t connect with anyone, not even remotely.
John, in particular, had no discernible personality. His age was never specified, but he read as mid-thirties at the very least. And yet, he blushed when Shae or any other woman flirted with him or showed interest. Nothing wrong with a man blushing and acting all shy, I supposed, but that’s not exactly my idea of a protector-type, supposedly alpha romance hero. Shae wasn’t much better. Despite her “rich” backstory as a seasoned agent who endured torture and required months of recovery, she came across as emotionally fragile and inconsistent. Her trauma didn’t track logically. We’re told she was broken by the torture and was prepared to say or do anything to make it stop (that was the biggest issue she had), but her resulting anxieties (fear of being touched, panic in rooms with more than two people) didn’t seem connected to what she actually endured. It felt arbitrary and unrelated to the torture scene.
The romance itself was lifeless. These two spent months together with zero signs of attraction. John mused about companionship and appreciation. Honestly, he read more like a teenage boy than a grown man. Shae, meanwhile, was emotionally shut down and withdrawn. Then, out of nowhere, John suddenly realized he loved her and instantly found her beautiful. Shae had a similar epiphany: she realized John was attractive and started “wanting” him. The sex scenes were so dull I skipped them. There was no passion, no urgency, no “if I don’t have you now, I’ll die” energy. Just mechanical, uninspired scenes, abstractly described and over in less than a page.
Shae’s torture was glossed over—no details were given, which I actually appreciated. The author implied brutality without subjecting the reader to graphic violence, but even that restraint couldn’t save the book. Truly, John Smith was as bland as his name, and Shae, despite her credentials as a badass spy, came off as a self-pitying woman who couldn’t cope with what she was supposedly trained to handle. Even the dialogue and the excessive descriptions of farmwork were tedious.
In the end, everything about this book fell flat. I skimmed the final chapters just to see how the suspense played out, but it didn’t offer much. It’s safe to say I won’t be continuing with this series.
Another winner!!!! Exciting, suspenseful, passionate and engrossing!!!! I loved John. I loved the way he treated Shae with tenderness understanding and kindness. I loved how he treated Cat and Joy's dogette 😁.... Every time Cat appeared I got a big smile and laugh at how she knew how to manipulate her humans.... I adored how the animals helped Shae heal... As a huge animal lover I could easily relate and really enjoyed the entertaining way they were weaved into the story. Shae was a very complex and strong independent woman who had endured a nightmare experience and her torment and rehailitation was extremely moving and very real to me.... I could easily picture it and live it with her as she dealt with her demons.... which is the hallmark of an excellent and super talented author which Kris Michaels certainly is. But Shae was not left to suffer alone.... because she had John, Jeremiah, Adam, and Frank and the entire Guardian team to give her support and have her back as she worked her way back to wellness... John and Shae's love story was sweet, sexy, and endearing. The suspense in this book was subtle but you had enough cleverly interspersed clues to know there were secrets still to come out which left you on your toes wondering when.... Excellently done.
I love the way the Guardian family is always there for their own with deep compassion and understanding. I love the way that they will move heaven and earth to protect and support anyone they make their own. That they truly do whatever it takes for as long as it takes..... Because I knew the "John" book was coming out I went back and re-read the entire Guardian series and spin-offs.... All 21 of them and I am always filled with amazement and admiration at how Kris Michaels manages to make each book so fresh, interesting and compelling while continuing the Guardian theme!!!! This series is one of the best I have ever read and I encourage any reader who loves good books to read it. I highly recommend this book... It is a not only suspenseful, action packed, and filled with interesting and intriguing characters and scenarios, but is a beautiful love story also!!!!!
Kris I don't know how you seem to out do yourself with each next book I read, and this one definitely was written so well as they all always do. These two characters John & Share & their storyline gripped & pulled at my heart from the very beginning! They both went through so much from John targeted & escaping death of being blown up 2x, witnessing his sister being killed in a car bomb & blaming himself for years & suffering that loss. And Shae omg what a true warrior & survivor after being tortured so badly that it broke her physically & mentally so bad I just cried every time she had a breakdown. They both became neighbors, friends, lovers & found their soulmate in one another while they also overcame all they have been through. There was so many nail biting moments throughout this story as it unfolded from action packed scenes, heart breaking emotional moments, guessing of what's to come, and beautiful romantic moments too that was the hardest book to put down yet lol.
I just have to say Kudos to Kris for always including some of these amazing animals on the ranch to show how smart animals are & they can sense & help someone thru tough times just by touching them & being around many of God's creations. And of course placing her many previous characters throughout each book to help show newer ones what true friendships, loyalty & family can be like if they truly want it, it can happen for them too.
And lastly the mind blowing explosive part was finding out about John's sister Lori & her connections & part in this storyline..:that's all I'll say about her cause I want you all to read it yourself & be blown away like me! I'm off to the next book in this great series and if this is your first book you've come across of Kris Michael's I'd suggest you start from the beginning of her reading order for this series which is on her website. There is so many characters you'll get to know & fall in love with as each story gets told of them. Happy Reading Everyone. I'm so thankful for my kindle & kindle unlimited to be able to still read her books until I can purchase more of previous read & future books too that I haven't brought yet to add to my collection.
John Smith has been living the last few years on Frank Marshall's ranch as a ranch foreman, in his past life was anything but. He worked for an alphabet agency before he became a target. After that, he went to work for Guardian. His life was a good one but his sister's death still haunted him and guilt lurked in the shadows. His sister is the reason why he and Sierra team were in Canada but they didn't find his sister, what they found was a survivor in a room full of sadistic toys made to break a person physically and mentally. Well, Stratus broke her but she was saved from death when John and Sierra team found her instead of his sister.
Shae was an undercover agent for the Mossad. She was captured, humiliated, and beaten. She was giving a death sentence that never came but during her recovery, there were times that she wished she had been dead. She was treated for months and then released to Guardian. She came to the ranch to further her healing. There she met up with John again and her road to recovery really began one small step at a time.
This was a love story first and foremost. There was action but mostly the story concentrated on John and Shae and finding their way to love through her recovery and in a way, his. Ms. Michaels can tell a story for sure. Most of the story takes place back on the ranch in South Dakota and the way it is described makes me want to go and visit. I loved that she included Sasha and Cat in the story because they provided comic relief when the story got a bit heavy due to the subject matter. The two critters' antics reminded me a bit of Tom and Jerry. Shae is a remarkable character and I liked the fact that Ms. Micheals didn't speed up or gloss over what happened to her. She doesn't rush the story and lets it develop in its own time. John is quiet and aloof at times with the others on the ranch and he is awkward when it comes to Shae but both characters were well developed and by the end of the story, I wanted to throat punch the bad guys. Another great story in the series plus we got a taste of stories to come. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Another great addition to the Guardian world. In this book, John has been out of the “game” for years, working on the King ranch as a ranch manager, after a betrayal from his former Agency left him having to pretend to be dead. Seeking information about those who murdered his sister, he goes on one more operation only to rescue Mossad agent, Shae, who’s been brutally tortured by Stratus. Too broken to still be useful to her agency anymore, Shae is taken in by Guardian to healreturns to the ranch to heal where she develops a friendship with John. As things progress, they find that their pasts intersect and they may have a common enemy.
I liked this story and the fact that even though both protagonists were incredibly competent, neither really wanted to continue in the same field, they’d both been burnt and had had their fill. Shae’s recovery was particularly brutal to read but I liked that it wasn’t glossed over, as a reader, I felt like this story respected the amount of work and suffering it takes to go from being completely broken to building resilience by portraying even a smidge of the amount of strength Shae had to find to battle her demons. I loved Johns’s portrayal as a strong silent type. And now I’m even more curious to know about Jeremiah and Sage, who was referenced at the end. I’m still a huge fan of the Kings, the Guardians and all the related series and spin-offs!
John and Shae are so similar in they just want everyone to leave them alone
John is basically living at the ranch in hiding from whoever tried to kill him and killed his sister. He ends up going out on a mission looking for something to do with his sister but find Shae being beaten and almost dead somewhere in Canada. After Mossad said they don't want her back, Guardian brings her to the ranch to recuperate when she is released from the hospital. She is in the cabin next to John's house. John earns her trust and they become friends. When she sees a picture of his dead sister, she freaks out and accuses him of lying to her and Guardian because he knows the one who ordered her to be tortured and killed. When Alpha and Archangel hear this they put together an open to bring her in and John and Shae are included in the op. Will they be able to find Lori and bring her in? Will she be brought in alive or something will they have to protect themselves and end up killing her? Will this be the end of Stratus? I'm not sure Stratus is done yet.
I love the way John is so patient with Shae and helping her to deal with everything. He lets her take things at her pace and doesn't try to push her. He is also so protective of her even from Guardian when they want to push her for answers.
“𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘦. 𝘛𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥” 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 4.5/5 Let me start my saying, I adore the Guardian World that this author has created! Truly love it! In this story I felt it started off slower than some of the previous books in the guardian world, but My Word! when the story kicked in I was totally gripped, this book gives us readers some answers to the terrorist organisation know as Stratus. I loved how we got glimpses of how Guardian works (behind the scenes), we also got some of our favourite Kings making appearances in one of Guardians biggest take downs ever, this was a very intense read. John and Shae were perfect together, and their romance was so deserving after reading what both had experienced in life, the twist in the story was unexpected and my heart dropped especially for John. I adored all the characters within this story, Jeremiah is next and we get little glimpses into him and I believe also another characters book was hinted at near the end. If you love military, suspenseful, romantic stories, this is the book & series for you.
John and Shae were the perfect couple and I really enjoyed reading their story and getting to know each of them.
John was quiet and kept to himself. After losing his sister, he vowed to never develop feelings or care for anyone else. He managed the ranch and concentrated on his duties and responsibilities for Frank.
After Shae was rescued, she struggled with feeling guilt and having nightmares. She was scared of people and didn’t like being touched. When she’s brought to the ranch and ends up next door to John, Shae realizes that there is something special about John’s gentleness that makes her feel safe. The more time they spent together, the closer they became. It was obvious that together they could heal each other. I liked the addition of Velvet, Cat, and the poof puppy dog.
We got to see a lot more of Dr. Jeremiah Wheeler in this one, and I understand his book will be next. As with the others books in the series, the other characters make appearances and Guardian is still after Stratus.
John Smith ran to Guardian after his long-term job in a crime family ended with the abrupt deaths of his father and sister; not to mention the CIA was on his tail. That was years ago, they’d helped him settle as the ranch manager. Everything worked out for John, he was treated like family, he had meaningful work and a peace he’d never had.
John went with the team following a lead mentioning his sister, hoping to find her killer. They didn’t find that but they did find Mossad agent Shae Diamant barely alive just as her psychopathic sadistic torturer is about to end her. While everyone else packed evidence, John comforted Shae, as best he could while waiting for an ambulance.
At the ranch, healing, Shae’s a mix of emotions, highly medicated and withdrawn. Opening to John helps Shae heal faster, their friendship evolves into a slow, serious romance. Meanwhile, a lead is uncovered on John’s sister, the woman haunting Shae’s dream may have been found and the team finds a wedge into Stratus’ ranks, Rating: 4.25stars
John is the third book in the Guardian Defenders series by Kris Michaels. With this series, Ms. Michaels delivers a compelling mix of romantic suspense, tactical action, and emotional storytelling. It’s another spin-off from the Kings of Guardian series, and definitely doesn’t disappoint, retaining the same high-energy pacing and interconnected worldbuilding I have come to expect from Ms. Michaels, while also introducing us to new operatives with their own unique missions and personal challenges. Each book can be read as a standalone romance that’s wrapped up in a high-stakes operation - but I would be remiss not to mention that together they form a cohesive web of loyalty, trust, and found family. Once again, Ms. Michaels delivers authentic action sequences grounded in military and covert operations, distinct character voices that make each operative memorable, interconnected relationships that add an extra dynamic to the overall series, and the perfect balance between suspense and romance. Happy Reading…
For followers of the Guardian saga, some answers to ongoing mysteries appear in this story. John Smith, "Architect", has been notified that someone in his past has come up in an encrypted message. John is the mysterious ranch manager working for Frank Marshall, and only an obscure reference by Joseph King tells the reader that he is anything else. The encrypted message sends John on an op with Sierra Team. The tip turns out to be bogus, but the team finds something more crucial. A woman is being tortured and all clues point to her being a friendly agent working against Stratus. She is rescued, physically healed and sent to the ranch to find peace. John is a solitary man since he is supposed to be dead. Shae, the agent, is in need of a person she can trust. Her trauma is so acute that she is unable to be in a room with more than two other people. Dr. Wheeler helps her and she and John are to solve a big puzzle with Stratus, all while falling in love.
Kris Micheals continues to grow and grow, the whole series is so utterly believable, the characters are multi-dimensional and feel real. The novels starts from the onset with a focus on the investigation and obtaining of information that pertains to the nefarious crimes of the overall series storyline. This one reacquaint's us with John, formerly known as an engineer, now the foreman at Franks ranch, with Shea a Mossad undercover agent. Guardian uncover Information about John's sister that leads a team to Canada, in which, fortunately for Shea prevent's her meeting a rather gruesome end. The storyline once again grabs you in, its well laid out, its emotional and the depth of the growing romantic relationship between the two main characters is perfect. Kris Micheals never fails to deliver, it's another high action, emotional roller-coaster of a novel that continues to make this series amazing.
I borrowed John ~ Guardian Defenders ~ Book 3, by Kris Michaels from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
John Smith disappeared into life as the ranch manger for Frank Marshall in South Dakota at the request of Guardian Security and had learned the work from Frank. He also trained with Guardian and helped when called upon but as a dead man he mostly stayed on the ranch.
His sister was missing and in some intel Jewell the computer whiz found his sister's name with a possible location. In Canada at one of the locations the team and John found Shae Diamant, a Mossad agent being tortured and rescued her. She ended for rehab after her wounds healed as John's next door neighbor. His kindness and ability to emphathize with her helped her recover as they became friends as she grew stronger.
Guardian found evidence that was tied to his sister again to bring about a surprising climax to both of John an Shea's emotional turmoil. I love the sweet ending and Cat and Velvet too.
When I first saw the blurb for John, I had something in my mind telling me he was related to Gabriel....but I didn’t really care if that was the case because come on..this is a Kris Michaels book and it doesn’t matter where her characters come from, they are all spectacular and her stories are entertaining and captivating😍
John, however, is NOT related to Gabriel like I first thought but he is an integral part of the Marshall Ranch and on occasion helps Guardian with information etc. When some information comes to light, it leads them unexpectedly to Shae😳
Absolutely loved John and Shae, and Kris certainly had a few surprises up her sleeve regarding their pasts and some explosive secrets 🧨 A not to be missed book, but would definitely recommend reading all books and in order to get the full effect of these stories❤️
Another cracking instalment from the world of Guardian Security
No plot spoilers There is a potential trigger warning relating to violence. There are no grammatical or editorial errors. What can I say other than Kris Michaels has done it again with this beautifully crafted book. From the depth of despair and the mental aftermath of torture, with one broken soul reaching out to another, to slow steps to recovery. The backstory continues with Stratus still being hunted by Guardian, the book evokes immense sadness and humour and contains the HEA we expect from the author. It's tense and complex storyline combined with the outstanding characterisation makes the book another favourite from the author. For me, the Guardian Security books are an automatic purchase. There are some sex scenes, there is some swearing. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
it started as an in your face OMG opening exactly the thing that you would expect from Ms Michaels then it evens out and you start to breathe a sigh of relief then, she hit you with it again lots and lots of action and angst and answers. I really enjoyed John's story and loved catching up with some of the other characters especially Joy. the door is now open for Jeremiah and it sounds interesting unfortunately i have to wait for audible to get fantastic Matt Haynes to narrate. now that I have read all of the books available I can now go to "passages" and have a listen seeing as I know everyone there. just waiting for Smoke and Jeremiah and whatever else Ms Michaels dreams up fantastic fantastic fantastic!!!!! But if I have to fave a fave...it's still Fury...that was gut wrenching and hold your breath....followed by Tempest
WOW! Another FANTASTIC story by Kris! This story is about John but he is not really employed by Guardian. The beginning was rather intense. John was looking into who killed his sister and when a clue was discovered, he tagged along with the Sierra Team. They come upon a young woman being tortured. They saved her before she was killed. Shae was saved but was broken. It takes her over a year to finally feel somewhat normal. She has the help of John and Jeremiah. John and Shae fall in love with each other. The ending is kind of a shocker to find out John's sister was still alive and the one who tortured Shae. She is finally apprehended and charged. Now these two start working on their happily ever after! I love how animals are incorporated into the story and I was surprised the King kid's mom had remarried. FANTASTIC job Kris! I would recommend this book.
Oh what an amazing story of John and Shae We learn so much about John who came to the Marshall ranch because Frank needed a ranch manager. John had been through so much that being at the ranch was exactly what he needed to cope. On a mission with a Gaurdian team they rescue Shae. That last mission left her broken and afraid. Through the help of John, Frank and Gaurdian (and a baby horse) Shae begins to heal. Both John and Shae help each other to heal and find strength. Kris Michaels is able to weave a beautiful story with John and Shae. You feel their vulnerability, how they break through, grow and strengthen each other and as individuals. I did not want the story to end. I'm sure I'll see more of them in later stories. But I highly recommend this book!
I wasn't really interested in John Smith's or Jeremiah Wheeler's stories but as a Kris Michaels fan, I decided to give John a chance and I was not disappointed.
This is not a Guardian story full of action, it is a Defenders story full of emotion.
John was hidden away to protect him and his quiet life on a remote South Dakota ranch has actually given him a place to belong (and family - Frank would have it no other way). Shae has suffered at the hands of Stratus, just like Tempest, and was given a lifeline by Guardian.
John and Shae's story is a journey to rebuild two lives. The South Dakota ranch and most of the people there are family and they are always willing to open their arms to those in need. Seeing the familiar faces pulling together to help Shae truly shows just how awesome Guardian and its interconnected family are.
Dr. Jeremiah Wheeler and Dr. Adam Cassidy really shine in this story and it actually makes me look forward to reading Jeremiah (Adam's story was fantastic).
It's a slow journey with just a bit of action to help wrap up the story. Lots of familiar faces appear to help give closure to John and Shae.
I love Kris Michaels' Guardians and all of its offshoots, but if you are looking for something a little different - check out her Everlight stories or A Heart's Desire - freaking awesome (and I am not into M/M stories).
"One didn't deserve love, they either received it like the gift it was or they didn't."
This is a slightly different book for Kris Michaels. While all the Guardian aspects are in place, there is not as much suspense. That is not to say that this book was not thoroughly enjoyable because it was excellent. A tender love story between two broken people. Both willing to overcome past traumas to make room to give and receive love. It was nice to be a fly on the wall as Shae learned to live again. With the help of Dr. Jeremiah Wheeler, and to some extent, John, Shae found her new self. After spending so much time with Jeremiah in this story, I anticipate his story will be equally as good.
Favorite lines: Shae: You take away my ability to breathe. John: I like to make you breathless.
Kris Michaels is masterful yet again with her latest Guardian Defenders book, John. John & Shae have both been through horrific experiences that have left scars, whether internal or external, or both. Hers more recent after just being rescued. Love how John treated her and how their relationship built. But also the suspense when it came to Stratus. And of course, the interaction of the rest of the Guardian family, Frank & Miss Amanda is the best. In the telling of this story, at times my heart hurt, laughed and smiled. Kris Michaels is a genius! Whatever it takes, as long as it takes!
I have to say, it took me a few chapters to get into this... at one point I did consider skim-reading... but I am glad that I persisted. John Smith has been mentioned a few times before and I was always intrigued to read his story. I liked him - a lot. Shae was great too!
I kind of knew where we were being led - I think any other explanation would've been implausible! I still am looking for more with Stratus, I feel that I am emotionally invested into this part of the story.
I was confused by Frank's involvement with Guardian... I don't remember him being so involved or discussing matters in such detail before!
I've thought several times about what to write for this review and each time I've scrubbed the words simply because nothing I write would be a good enough review for this book. This was not the usual action packed King book or a Shadows book - that came later. Instead you met two broken characters, one very broken, who had to come to terms with their new normal. It was a tough, emotional journey for both of them with an unexpected twist along the way. A gripping read that I made myself draw out so it lasted longer (I really hate waiting for the next book to come along!). Really enjoyed it and wished I could magic myself to South Dakota and be a part of a place that absorbs you into its fabric.
I’m a huge fan of this series and all of the Guardian Security books, so naturally I’ve been extremely interested in seeing how exactly John came to Guardian. And his story does not disappoint!
John is the ranch manager on the Marshall Ranch is South Dakota. When is passed puts him on a mission but instead of finding the answers he seeks he find something much more important.
When I finished this book all I could think was, What a Ride. I was on a roller coaster of emotions but ended up with the biggest smile on my face. I would give John more than five star if I could!!
John has been briefly mentioned in other stories and so has this role of creating identities. Shae is brand new to the series and man her introduction is brutal. The story focuses on her healing and their relationship, but also on some key events of Johns life that maybe are not quite what they seemed. Frank is ever present and so is the psychiatrist mentioned in a few other stories. Loved the healing role of Cat and Velvet. Joy and Taty helped with Joy making more friends with Shae. This was. A quick read and the ending was great! Can’t wait to see what the psychiatrist story is and what else is coming Guardians way!
Wow what a twisted ending. Wish there was an explanation why. John had to live with the death if his sister and try not to blame himself. Shae, a Mossad operative was beaten to an inch of her life. Guardian rescued her and bought her to the ranch. Frank, Amanda and all of Guardian try to help Shae heal but it is difficult. John and her form a bond that seems to make headway. As it seems Shae has recovered quite well, fallen in love with John and us now working for Guardian, she discovers a picture of the women who sentenced her to death in a picture with John on his desk. All hell breaks loose and the mystery is broken wide open. Read on to see who this is
