Nothing in Camilla's life will be the same after This Boy...

Camilla dreams of the day she can leave her life behind. Saying goodbye to the mother she's never been good enough for, to the bottles there's always money for, to the bills there's never money for—and most of all, to being the help in someone else's dream home.

But the scholarship to her new private school that gives her a real chance at a future comes with one big catch—Hunter Beck.

It's his home her mother cleans. His little brother that Camilla babysits. It's his face that she dreams of at night, and his cruel voice that taunts her every day. Hunter is the most popular boy in school, and she's his favorite target. She hates him, but even more, she hates how drawn she is to him. Becoming his debate partner seems destined to end in disaster.

As she's drawn further into his world, he alternately pulls her close and pushes her away. But behind the roller coaster, Camilla senses true emotion. A man she wants to know hiding inside the boy.

She's so close to getting everything she wants. Getting into college. Leaving this town forever. She’s let nothing get in her way so far.

So why does it feel like Hunter Beck might be the boy who ruins it all?

There's three books to this series--here's my review for the first one.

3 ★

I truly had high hopes for this. I really enjoyed the synopsis, but I'm not sure I enjoyed the execution of the book and even the progression especially. There are some parts that are pertinent to the story, but most of it felt like it dragged.

The main male character had a complete 180 of personality--I kind of assumed he was going to remain the cruel, bad boy who taunts Camilla, but he turned into a lovable softie kind of... quickly? I think it probably ruined the potential tension for me.

This is 18+ with some small spice scenes, but nothing too severe. Probably a 2/5 🌶 but I also ended up skimming through some of it because I wasn't super invested in their romantic relationship.

The whole "I'm secretly kind of into him, why is he such an asshole" is introduced early on which helps, but even that introduction didn't necessarily make me BELIEVE that they were these two people who needed to stay away from each other but couldn't.

Cliffhanger at the end of the first book--if you spend the entire 300 pages enjoying the book, the cliffhanger is going to make you want to pick up the second book. I'll probably pause for a little bit before diving back into the second book.

Check it out for yourself!! ❤️

This year I'm choosing to forego writing reviews on books that just didn't make much of an impression on me (unless it's something that really hits me as being worth bringing to the forefront). Writing a review takes time and energy -- time I would rather spend moving on to another chance for a "good read."

Oooooooh I loved this story! Milla is such a fantastic character - smart, kind and despite her history heading places. Then we get poor little rich guy Hunter. I alternated between wanting to slap him and kiss him!

Their chemistry and banter was epic. That ending though - gah!! Chest punch. Need to get onto book 2 stat.

I received an arc of this book.

I loved this!!! Couldn’t put the book down. Honestly didn’t expect it to be this good since it’s somewhat a bully romance.

The chemistry between Hunter and Camilla made this an extremely entertaining read. The fact that they couldn’t stay away from each other no matter what and how they were around one another got me in so many feels. The tension was written so well and I like how protective Hunter was of Camilla and how sweet he got towards the end. Moreover, I appreciated that the heroine did not let the hero walk over her like it often happens in bully romances.

I adored Camilla and how strong willed, sweet and determined she is. I think she was quite a relatable character. I felt so bad for her at times because of her relationship with her mom, sometimes I just wanted to strangle that woman.

Harrison, or Harry, really was the cutest kid. His relationship with Camilla and his brother were really adorable and definitely added a lot of warmth to the book.

Also Camilla’s friendship with Emmett and Isabel made me smile and wish for such kind of friends. The way they supported her was so endearing and made it fell like they’ve been friends forever. And they definitely were great side characters.

Finally, the cliffhanger at the end definitely has me hooked. Cannot wait what the author has in store later.

ARC REVIEW
Camilla works for Hunter’s family as a nanny of their six year old son. She and Hunter don’t get along. She can’t stand his actions and attitude. Her life is quite difficult, she works hard not only for herself, but also to pay bills and help her mother, who isn’t one of the best ones.
In school, Hunter’s friends make fun of Camilla and he soon realises he doesn’t like the way they treat her.
Camilla hates Hunter like no other person, but soon this hate change into something more.

I liked this book, the story of these two. Camilla has pretty tough life, but Hunter also.
I can’t wait to read next part of their story.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

this short review is only based on the 4% of this book that i actually read so:

1) i think i'm above the the rich boy humiliating the poor girl who works in his house trope. i've had enough of this or at least make the girl be the millionaire who humiliates the boy, give it a twist or something, i don't know.

2) him having sex in the pool while the female character was there.
i can't say i'm surprised because sadly i've read this in other books, but dude??? your six year old little brother swims there???? a little more awareness and hygiene in public spaces next time ok bye

Camilla and Hunters story is a enemy to lovers trilogy and I already can’t wait to read book two. I adored Camilla, she is very much a glass half full type of girl and really tries hard to keep her head up despite Hunter wanting to change that about her for no apparent reason. This definitely end on a cliffhanger and I wondering what will happens to Hunter when the dust settle

This Boy, is the first book in the 'This Boy' series and is the debut novel by Jenna Scott. This is an enemies-to-lovers/ young adult story where we are introduced to Camilla and Hunter.
Camilla has lived a hard life, constantly moving and living with her alcoholic mother. For the last few months she has been working as a nanny to the little boy of the family her mother works for as a house keeper. She has been saving and studying hard so that she can get a scholarship into college and escape her mother. As much as she loves the little boy she cares for, much can't be said for the older brother, Hunter Beck, the guy intent on tormenting her.
Hunter Beck is the popular, rich and spolit douche. His life may look good on the outside but his home life is not peaceful. His parents are forever absent or fighting and only care about their reputation. The only good thing is his little brother. He sees the way Camilla cares and looks after him, even going above and beyond more so than any other nanny before her and that has him intrigued.
When Camilla sees Hunter in a compromising position in the pool with another girl, her own desires are slowly lit. But what happens when Hunter's father moves Camilla and her mother in to be live-in housekeeper and nanny? Will they both give into their desires and be together living in such close proximity?
This was a slow-burn romance with a cliffhanger. I thought it was a great debut for author Jenna Scott.

Amazing is all I can say about this book. It really exceeded my expectations and had all my favorite tropes like enemies to lovers, the heroine's mother being the Hero's family maid and a dash of bullying.

Hunter and Camilla were so interesting and entertaining to read, they really never let me put the book down for a second because I wanted to know what was next for them. Hunter and Camilla were like a moth to a flame. They just couldn't help but want each other. Hunter was so possessive and protective of Camilla even as he tried to fight his feelings off for her. Camilla was amazing because no matter how she felt about Hunter and the way he made her body feel she set rules of what she expected if he truly wanted a relationship with her. It was refreshing seeing the heroine not be a doormat no matter how much she likes the hero.

I also LOVED Hunter's relationship with his little brother Harry and Camilla's relationship with him as well. You really see a different side of Hunter when he's with his brother and we see Camilla's sweet nurturing nature despite having a witch for a mother.

I cannot wait to see what Jenna Scott has in store for Hunter and Camilla after that shocking cliffhanger. I also am dying to know what's in store for Camilla's friends, Emmett and Isabel.

Camilla has not had an easy life. With an alcoholic mother, a father she's never known, and moving from place to place every time her mother decides to pick up and leave, it's been difficult for her.
This latest move has lasted longer than any other and has finally given her some stability in her life. Aside from her studies and having a plus 4.0 GPA, Camilla works as a Nanny for the Beck's family. She loves taking care of Harry, and making sure he is well cared for. The only downfall is seeing his older brother Hunter.

Hunter comes from a well-t0-do family, and from the outside he seems like just another spoiled trust fund baby. Camilla avoids him and his friends as much as she can, especially since his friends refer to her as "the help." Unbeknownst to Camilla, Hunter sees her as the only real person in his life, someone who actually cares about his brother, and is an all-around good person.

When Camilla goes to a party with friends and gets drunk, Hunter is the one who looks out for her, and it's the beginning of a friendship between him and Camilla that Camilla never expected, a friendship that turns into more.

Are Camilla and Hunter destined to beat the odds and find happiness together, or are their backgrounds too different to ever get their happily-ever-after.

This Boy is a YA romance between the have and have nots. It is book one of three in the series.
While YA romance is not my favorite genre, this story is well written with strong characters. If you enjoy a good YA romance, this is a story I'd definitely read.

So these high school bully tropes aren't always my favorite thing to read. From the beginning, this one seemed like all the rest. Wealthy boy treats poor girl who works for his family bad, then she has to go to his high school as a "charity case", the boy and his friends treat her badly, blah, blah, blah. I stuck with it and managed to enjoy it a bit more as I got into it further. I liked the supporting characters. I thought the leading rich boy was true-to-character. I was really wanting to see the leading poor girl be a bit more of a stick-to-her-guns type. I think she just caved to her hormones and the rich guy way too easily. She seemed so focused on what she wanted for her future and then she just let herself fall way too hard and fast for the poor-little-rich boy. All-in-all, there was definitely enough here to keep my attention, turning the pages and wanting to know what would happen next. I was definitely intrigued by the cliffhanger ending and would want to read on to Book 2 to find out what happens. I'm giving my review three "I liked it" stars because I did actually like it. I'm hoping that the next book will really jump up a notch and make me want to become totally invested in these characters because I really wanted to love them and the story, but I'm not quite there yet.

This is the first book I have read by this author. This Boy is a story with mixture of enemy to lover, high school and bully romance themes. Mainly set around the senior year at the elite private school Oak Academy. It is book one of a trilogy and ends in a huge cliffhanger so you have been warned. Most of the book is from Camilla POV but to increase the intrigue, the author has popped in five chapters from Hunter.

Camilla Hanson has spent her childhood constantly moving due to her alcoholic mother. She studies hard as dreams of going to college to get away from her poor situation. To help pay the bills she works as the Beck’s nanny, looking after Harrison their six year old son. The downside of her job is Harrison’s older brother Hunter, a horrible, narcissistic manwhore who rarely speaks to her. When she is half way through her senior year “the incident” happens at school and she finds herself moving to the same school as Hunter.

Hunter Beck is a hot, six foot, blue-eyed, popular guy with a six-pack but he is also an arrogant and entitled rich boy. He turns out to be very complex and has his own problems. It annoys him how Camilla really gets to him but he feels she the only person who really understands him.

She is strong and so determined to cope with everything thrown at her. She stands up to everyone and copes well with how the elitist students treat her. She has such a kind personality, is optimist but still quite innocent and naive which Hunter uses to his advantage.

“Hunter Beck might be pure fire, but I know better than to let myself get burned.”

The author cleverly builds up the will they - won’t they. The romantic chemistry between them increases allowing us to see another side to Hunter and there are some really steamy scenes. They both have neglectful parents so you really see how the lack of affection has affected their lives. While they come to grips with the attraction, pull and need for each other, always in the background is uncertainty and internal conflict.

“He kisses me like I’m air, and he’s out of breath. His hands and lips move over my skin like I’m something to be savoured.”

On a lighter note Camilla makes two great friends in Emmett and Isabel. They are so funny when they get together and extremely supportive. They are great side characters along with the adorably cute Harrison. The author has made sure all the characters have their own personalities which allows the reader to decide who they like or don’t, but also leaves plenty to be discovered about them all in the next book.

I loved how the poor ‘servant girl’ brings the ‘rich boy’ to his knees but I know there is much more to him. I can’t wait to find out about ‘the incident’ and get the answers to all the other questions the author has left us with. The ending has a shocking twist so really looking forward to the next book when hopefully all to be revealed.

A sharp, fast-paced read taking the reader on the journey of two high school students, Camilla and Hunter.

Plot comments: this is not your typical story of two people from opposite sides. Sure, they are of different family and socio-economic backgrounds and have different work ethics and goals. But that layer of high school peer pressure that has played havoc on American teenagers for years invigorates the scenes with a sharpness that will make you glad you are experiencing it yourself! There are some fun scenes too and some sweet and sexy ones as well.

Characters comments: The two main characters are well-drawn here, especially placing their inner conflict amongst the action of the book. Ms. Scott actually draws out a number of supporting characters here as well: family members, friends and enemies of both of the main characters that you could envision strong backstories that brought them to the events of the book.

The literary style is modern, with many expressions, figures of speech and cultural references that fit the characters perfectly.

Looking forward to Book 2.

I thought the book was good. We get to read from both Camilla and Hunter's POV. Camilla is the babysitter to Hunter's brother. When she moves to this elite school, she finds out that she is in the same school as Hunter. Will she survive this new school and Hunter? This book ends in a cliffhanger. The story continues in the next book.

I loved the book and enjoyed reading it. The writing style was very pleasant and the book was easy to read.

I liked Camilla's personal development over the course of the book, especially that it lured Hunter out of his comfort zone. I'm really curious how the characters will develop in the following books.
I found the scene in which Camilla and Hunter played 'Dargon, Knight, and Princess' with Harry, totally cute and adorable.
When I read the end and the cliffhanger, I just thought: "Has he done that seriously now? WTH ???" That was really a big blow to Camilla.

So, I can really recommend the book and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel ...

Camilla has never really had a normal family life, her father has never been present, and her mother is only there about half the time. When she isn't working, she is drinking herself into a stupor, and forgetting all about her motherly duties. Camilla has always found a way to adapt to the life her mother has created for them, the lack of stability is something she has grown use to, and having to cover for her mother is just something she does in order to survive. But when her mother informs her they are moving once again, and this time to into her employer's pool house, Camilla has her reservations about this new move working out.

This move now puts her one step closer to the boy who has decided it's his mission to torture her and make her life an even bigger wreck that it already is... and that is something she just doesn't need!

This Boy is one of those stories that will wreck your heart with it's words, and leave you an emotional mess. These two young wounded souls have seen their fair share of horrible things, and those things have molded and shaped their lives in ways that you wouldn't wish upon another soul. Their parents have failed them in more ways than one, and it's forced them to grow up quicker than they should have, my heart broke for these two. Camilla is quite an inspiring young lady, she has endured a lot and it's only pushed her harder to change the cycle her mother set them on. She has big dreams for herself and my only hope is that she can escape her horrible mother and chase them. As for Hunter, the devil after her heart, I struggled with him a bit, one moment he was charming, the next a hurtful boy who angered me. He made Camilla feel like she was a yo-yo, constantly pushing her away and then pulling her back in... it was really frustrating! I cannot wait to see what the next book holds for these two, that ending had me reeling, and I can only imagine the drama will be even more intense in the next! Highly recommend this one, it's bound to steal your attention from the very first page!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

So why does it feel like Hunter Beck might be the boy who ruins it all?

Camilla. Ok she has her naive moments, which drove me mad sometimes, BUT she does make up for them. She is passionate and just wants to accomplish her dreams.
Hunter. He is a major dick. That’s all. My opinion hasn’t changed as of yet and I wouldn’t mind junk punching him either. Yes he does have maybe one or two redeeming qualities, but his assholiness needs to be ttweaked.
THIS BOOK IS AMAZEBALLS!! Go get your heart ripped out of your chest in the best possible way and READ IT!!

After coming across the blurb I knew I wanted to read it. But I don’t know how to feel after having read it now.

Camilla is definitely strong considering the hand she has been given in life. I liked that she stayed strong and worked hard in everything she did. And that she didn’t let anyone bring her down.

Hunter I wasn’t definitely not too big of a fan. But there is definitely more than meets the eye. He is definitely hiding secrets and what they are I do want to know.

The book felt kinda slow paced and there didn’t seem to be much excitement or drama in it. At least not to me. I guess without the two the story can sometimes fall on deaf ears, seeing as that is what reels me in when I read a book. And it helps with the stories pace.
I guess you could say this was why I did have a had time connecting with the story and the characters when I got to the half way mark. The slow pace had me losing interest. That I couldn’t help but fight with myself in whether I should continue or not. As I was getting nearer to the ending, I kept thinking this is where the climax of the story will occur. But that didn’t really happen, even with the cliffhanger.

I am not trying to say this book wasn’t good, because it was. But it just seemed to lack substance for me personally. And I felt there were a few times the way the author would hint at some things that there might be more than meets the eye. Only for it to be ignored completely without really given a proper reason or answer. It was just brushed off as if nothing was ever meant by it.

Having said that, with the cliffhanger and some of the unanswered questions, I will definitely read the next book because I hate not having my questions answered and I want to see how Hunter and Camilla’s story ends.

OMG….just finished This Boy and I literally have so much different thoughts and feelings about the cliffhanger ending!! Hunter has really f*ck things up that is all I will say there (don’t want to spoil This Boy for any future readers). Hunter and Camilla are total opposites and yet they also have a lot in common. Camilla mused that they reacted to their past and situations differently and that is so true. This Boy will have your mind spinning and you will have so much different reactions and feeling as both Hunter and Camilla start to come together. When you get to know them both you will find yourself getting drawn more and more into their story. I know I have so much I would like to tell both Hunter and Camilla. I can’t wait to read This Hurt, book 2 of the This Boy series. Lucky for me it is already it is already been released and I can dive right into it to see what happens next cause it doesn’t look good for them. Hopefully it will turn out to be very different than what the ending is having readers natural assumptions are. Right now I would have a few choice things that I would tell Hunter as I am sure Camilla will in This Hurt. Totally, absolutely, highly recommend This Boy (book and series). Jenna Scott did a wonderful job with This Boy. She wrote a very strong and ambitious heroine in Camilla. I can totally empathize and relate to Camilla. I just loved reading This Boy and be prepared to get hooked from the first page till that last and not want to put it down for anything. Hope you will enjoy reading This Boy as much as I do!!

Oh my poor Camilla. All she wants to do is get through high school so she can get out of dodge in her town when she goes to college which is her major focus, and I didn't blame her one bit. She has a bully at school, Hunter, the older brother of the kiddo she babysits for in his family's house. He's horrible to her, hell, he's just all around horrible as he made some very questionable decisions that did him no favors in my eyes. Of course they have chemistry which does her no favors, but at least she didn't fall right into his bed like so many heroines I come across these days. I found myself calling him all kinds of names, and by the time that I was kicked off that cliff, I still didn't come close to warming up to his spoiled immature self.
