A fighter with a desperate soul, a queen with a broken heart and a planet torn apart by lies.
An orbit has passed since Crystal’s family were assassinated, stranding her on Earth.
Now, as queen of a war torn planet, struggling to keep the capital from rebel rule, Crystal discovers the reason behind the attack is far more sinister than she could ever have imagined.

Do you ever just find one of those books you squeal at how beautiful the cover is? This book is definitely one of those for me. Plus, the manuscript is absolute perfection. I will forever be a Darby Cupid fan! I had been waiting very impatiently to get my hands on this book after reading Crystal--which blown my mind. In Rebel, we meet back up with Crystal who has taken her rightful place as Queen of Starlatten. But no crown will ever be enough to replace the one person she can't seem to let go of--Dylan. After receiving a threat that Crystal can not ignore, she is pulled, once again, from her home. Landing on a strange planet, Crystal's only allies seem to be only those she has traveled with. Together, they fight to save not only their home and innocent lives, but right the wrongs of Crystal's ancestors. This book is beautiful written with characters you will fall in love with immediately, lots of action, and a love you can't help but swoon over. If you love sci-fi even a minuscule, I highly recommend picking up this series. You won't regret it!
An excellent follow-up to the first book! Relationships deepen and change, secrets are uncovered, and stakes are raised!! The plot keeps you guessing, and takes some terrifying twists, but the ending was satisfying while leaving a little bit of lead-in to the third book. Anything Darby Cupid writes is excellent, and I look forward to her future books!
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed Crystal and was ecstatic when given the opportunity to read its sequel Rebel directly after!
Rebel picks up roughly a year after the events at the end of Crystal. As a character, Crystal really undergoes a whole lot of growth in Rebel since we last saw her in book 1 as she resumes her rightful place as Starlatten’s queen. There’s a ton of new characters readers will get to meet in this book and I loved them as much as those we met in the first book. The angst gets ramped up a few notches as Crystal struggles with her conflicted feelings toward Jaik and missing Dylan.
Needless to say, I love Jaik even more than I did in Crystal!!
The plot is very intriguing and I especially appreciated Darby's accurate depiction of these young characters. Sometimes you forget characters in YA are fresh outta high school in age because they act so mature. Not with Darby’s. Her characters act very much their age. They make choices that leave you feeling angry and frustrated and you feel the emotions on a deeper level because of the first person POV. I was a little on the fence about the romance near the end, but I’m hoping the next book will solidify my feelings more about it there. Overall, I can’t wait to see how Darby wraps this series up!
**I was invited to read an arc of Rebel in exchange for an honest review.**
I could not wait to get my hands on this book after finishing Crystal, and there really was no disappointment. The writing and the plot were phenomenal, and I fell in love with the characters both old and new. The cover art is absolutely breathtaking, and when someone says they don't judge a book based on its cover, they are lying when it comes to Rebel (and Crystal). These covers truly are one of a kind.
We enter into Rebel with Crystal finding her new normal as the Queen of Starlatten, with Jaik by her side. However, her heart is still pulled towards Earth and the love that she left there. As Crystal tries to balance ruling a country and learning to control and strengthen her magic, she is faced with a threat than cannot go unanswered. This leaves her, and a select few fellow Starlattens, to travel to an unfamiliar planet, where Crystal is unsure who she can trust. As Crystal tries to redeem her ancestors, she is faced with many difficult choices, and I commend her bravery and growth, both as a person and a queen.
As this is an honest review, I am inclined to say that there was one small thing that bothered me. I feel like the romance of the book moved to fast, especially towards the end. However, it was a minor detail that didn't really take away from the rest of the beautiful plot and writing, and character development. I am definitely excited to read the next book in this installment, and I would 100% recommend this series.
Hello Starlights! I'm the author, so this isn't a review, but I'd like to tell you about Rebel. This book is very different to Book One (Crystal), because it takes place entirely in a new solar system. Crystal finds herself back home on Starlatten with a lot of new responsibilities and problems. Rebel follows Crystal as she grows and faces the harsh truth about her planet and the reality of being the queen, but as it's Jaik's amulet on the cover, it can't be denied that this is his book. It follows Jaik as he tries to deal with his traumatic past and figure out his place in this new world and his place with Crystal... Why should you read Rebel? Well, it's action packed, it has a host of new wonderful characters and twists and turns you won't see coming... Come and take a trip to Starlatten—you won't regret it!
I got an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. The story of Crystal Akinara continues in Rebel at her own planet. The way the author writes the characters is totally amazing. I mean the characters act so truthful to their age and it should be so. You can totally see the confusions of a teenager's mind through the characters. A lot more interesting new characters are introduced in this book. The war, the backstories and oh the love conflict Crystal has. Love it so much!! Jaik had my attention from book 1. But in this book I just LOVED him!! The storyline got so much rich in this part of the series. Gotta love the action in this one too!!! I cannot wait to read the final book to know where the stories goes from here.
(I was provided an ARC by the author for an honest review.)
Oh. My. Gosh.
The way I can best describe this series so far is as if CRYSTAL is the countdown to the rocket launch, and REBEL is the freaking lift off. We finally get to traverse the galaxy and arrive on Starlatten, full of amazing new characters and such deep story.
The themes of colonization, war, exile, are woven together so well, and this book felt like so much more than the first one. I love seeing Crystal growing into her role as queen, and I am team Dylan all the way. What is it about cave scenes that make unrequited love that much more swoon worthy?
I absolutely cannot wait for the third book in the series, and I’m so happy I decided to take a chance on these books!! Indie books are so important and I love being able to support blossoming new writers!!
* I received this eARC from the author for my honest review*
Once I finished Crystal I was screaming of anticipation for this book and I will be happy to say it did not disappoint. Rebel picks up a year and some change after the events of Crystal happened, and right from the beginning you can see the growth crystal has done and gone through. From her grief and her loss her parents and her friends. lets just say Crystal has been through alot. Jaik really starts to come in as his own person as well trying to find where he fits now in Crystal's new world and if hes better off not fighting in at all.
Crystal's feeling for Jaik and Dylan really come full force and circle in this one and as much as I loved Dylan in the first one Jaik will always be my number one.
It was also very fun to meet all the new characters who I won't list youll just have to go meet them for yourself and let me just say you WILL want to. Darby gives you a very nice take on the fact that its a YA that actually has teenagers that well act as teenagers with their feelings and how they deal with them. I still need some convincing on my part that the romance is what is, or maybe I just have Jaik glasses on and thats all i see.
Needless to say Rebel left me excited and waiting for book 3
Another great addition to the Starlatten trilogy. I don't think I will ever be disappointed with a novel by Darby Cupid. Book 2 was consistent with dishing out great character growth, nail biting moments and youthful angst. Seeing the wave of challenges thrown at each of the characters, I loved reading how each dealt with them in their own way. I am very much anticipating the final installment. Well done!
I couldn't wait to get my hands on this sequel and it's one of those glorious times when the second installment did not disappoint, and dare I say it... it's even better than the first book!
The action! The suspense! The heartwrenching, kick you in the gut moments!
We find ourselves in Crystal's planet where she now rules. I loved discovering more about Starlatten and all it has to offer by way of purple grass so soft that shoes aren't an option and so many endearing traditions of its people.
Heartbroken from the loss of her family, missing Dylan and her earthly friends, Crystal must focus on the rebellion now tearing her beloved home apart. What if the Zarbillians who are invading her planet aren't the murderous, mindless, bloodlusting rebels she was led to believe they were. What if the truth is something that changes everything?
Crystal makes another chosen family but this time they all have kickass unearthly powers... Jaik is still my favourite.
Darby Cupid interweaves this epic tale with the witty one liners I fell in love with her for in book one. Without spoilers, there were laugh out loud moments, times were my chest ached and I had to reach for a damned tissue and one particular part where I fist pumped the air.
I can't wait for the release of the final jigsaw piece that will bring the Starlatten trilogy into this world!
The second book in the Starlatten series was impossible to put down. Darby Cupid takes you on this epic ride of friendships and adventure, and has you flying through the pages.
Grab Crystal and Rebel and a hot cup of cocoa. You don't want to miss out on these books.
YA sci-fi at it's best! I love the characters. I love the new worlds we get taken too. I love the intensity of it. If book one was Crystal's book, then this one is definitely Jaik's and I was here for it! He's my favorite. I can not wait for book 3! I need to know what happens next.
Rebel follows our main characters Crystal: the now Queen of Starlatten, and Jaik, her now advisor as they try to right the wrongs her family did with the help of few trusted people. The book was more action packed and dealt a lot with character's emotions, doing the right thing and re-establishing new bonds. It deals with a lot of war scenes and death of Characters, so please keep that in mind. . [🌟🌟🌟🌟] . First, I absolutely loved the growth of Crystal in this book. She became strong, made some difficult decisions and overall had an amazing character arc. While I hated Jaik in the first book Crystal because he was a pushover, we get to see a different side to his Character and I empathize with him. He was much more vulnerable and had an emotional arc in this book and I absolutely loved that. . Second, the setting of this book felt more realistic and Sci-fi inspired. I missed that feeling while reading the first book since most of the story happens on Earth. This book gave much more insight as to how Starlatten works and the Characters attached to the world. I loved the relationship between Crystal and Kara and I feel the bond strengthening. Crystal focused on herself and prepared herself for the future which was my favourite thing in this book. Although the bond between Jaik and Crystal might be my second. . Now, coming to the storyline and Character development, I think Crystal and Jaik gets the most arc in the book. I really liked the story flow and how the plot unfurled with respect to the war between Starlatten and Zarbilion. I think I would have loved to know more about Zain family, especially Cadya. Although introding Dylan in the middle was a cherry on top, I loved the plot that happened because of his capture. I liked the writing style much more in this book and felt YA. . Overall, I absolutely loved the story and plot line, the Characters introduced, the emotional effect, all the difficult decisions made and all the happy moments as well. I had an amazing time reading this book! And I definitely recommend if you want a light SciFi with more importance to Characters!

I loved seeing Crystal settling in to her new role as much as she can, and boy was she thrown in the deep end. Family troubles and a love triangle make Crystal face normal teenage dramas amidst repairing the planet that she knows and loves. It was so nice to see the return of one of the past characters, he deserved a second chance. I really hope his family and friends and his friends’ families relocate to Starlatten in book three as it breaks my heart that he just won’t see them again. It probably won’t happen, but a girl can dream, right? The subtle hints of chemistry between Cadya and Kara make my heart swell; whether it’s purely platonic or romantic; I can’t wait to see where it goes next. I can’t decide whether I wanted Crystal to end up with Jaik or Dylan... I think I was always going to feel sorry for the one she doesn’t end up with because I like a happy ending for everyone. I would love Jaik to find love with someone (maybe Linda or Sera?) and reconnect his fragile friendship with Crystal.
I can’t wait for book three! 🙌🏼

Okay first off, the cover is absolutely STUNNING! I cannot wait to have a physical copy in my hands and on my shelves!
Secondly, I could not put this book down once I started reading! The growth we see Crystal and Jaik undergo is honestly perfect. When reading YA books, I tend to forget that the characters are High School age because the authors tend to make them more mature. It’s so refreshing to see characters act their age in a series, but to also grow alongside them. I think Darby has done an amazing job with her characters and I loved meeting all of the new ones!
I will say, I am forever team Jaik and that he is probably one of my favorite characters! :)
Anyways, overall this story was interesting, action packed, and left me wanting more! I cannot wait to read the third book to see what happens next!
When you don’t have anyone to go back to but you have to go since you have a responsibility of being a Queen, what will you do in that circumstance? With all the wrongdoings of your ancestors, what will you do? How you will cope with it? Here she has to not only rule and keep her people safe from rebels but has to be responsible for the actions of her ancestors, the queen has a lot on her plate. Journey of Queen making things right by the people, is a perfect sequel with all questions answered about the Rebels and Cadicus’s existence. I loved reading about Crystal and Dylan, I was rooting for them. Finally we see people making choices that could leave us frustrated but that's what connects us to them. Stakes are raised with all the secrets unravelled and the ending gives us a good hope to go forward for book 3, and a base for it.
I was crushed at the end of Crystal. I so wanted her to end up with my boy, Dylan. So, I was reluctant to love Rebel, but obviously, I did. Cupid weaves such a beautiful story with loads of character growth and depth, heartache, young love, and adventure. I'm not sure where she is going to take book three, but I am so on board after that ending. What a beautiful read this was.
Travel among the stars on an adventure in this amazing continuation to the Starlatten series. Rebel picked right up and moved the story along, paving the way for Crystal to formally move into her role as queen. Crystal has many challenges to face in this book for a character who is so young. Not only is she taking on responsibility of her whole kingdom she also must put an end to a deadly war that has broken out and is destroying her planet. She must save her people and bring stability and harmony back to a community who has been lied to all the while trying to figure out what kind of a monarch she is going to be. However, she doesn’t have to do all that alone she does have a special council of her own choosing to help guide her along the way, so she can follow through with all the ups and downs to come.
Darby has done an amazing job at showing this new world and making the reader feel like they are part of the entire story. I never once felt like I was just reading about Crystal and her friends’ journey. I truly felt like I was living and experiencing the joy and sorrow they had to endure throughout. Visually, in my minds eye, it was stunning to imagine the world around me and terrifying at times to experience the mayhem that comes with war. Lives are lost and families are torn apart but hopefully together Crystal and her team can work to bring a new world where everyone can leave in harmony. Join Rebel for an adventure of a lifetime to find true love and fix wrongs that must be made right.
Hands down one of my favorite reads this year (along with Crystal!)
The first book promised us that this trilogy will consist of so much action and adventure, and let me say here how Rebel SERVED. I cannot put down my phone when I was reading it. The story was compelling and magical!
Loved this book so much. It’s super worth it and I would reread it anytime! If you’re contemplating to read this series or not, this is my cue to say you should!
This will be a spoiler free review. Thank you to the author for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review. You can check out my review for Crystal – here – if you’re interested.
I inhaled the last 60% of this book. Like, could not stop turning the page because I needed to know what happened next. I still majorly got Lux series and Our Dark Stars vibes from this book, but it also reminded me of some of my favorite SF shows. All in all, this was a good book that kept me captivated and interested from book 1.
It was so much fun being back in this world with Crystal. Familiar faces were missing in light of how Crystal ended, but we get to meet and hang with some new faces. I wasn’t actually sure how everything was going to tie together – because if you’ve read Crystal and you know how it ends, then you know that some big sacrifices were made. Knowing now how it all ties together, I need book 3 and March 2021 is a long wait.
Whereas I had some minor issues with the plot feeling rushed in book 1, I didn’t think that was a problem in this book. Events progress at a quick pace, but not so fast to feel rushed, but keep you engaged and interested. Like I said, I breezed through the second half of this book because I couldn’t put it down. It was like a whirlwind and I needed to know what happened next. I do have one small question/minor complaint – I honestly don’t understand how old the characters are supposed to be. I don’t quite get the conversion between Earth Years and Starlatten orbits. I was operating under the assumption they were in their late-ish teens, but now I’m thinking older? Maybe early twenties? I don’t think this detracts from the book, it was just something I noticed and started wondering about when it becomes a prevalent issue in Crystal’s mind. I started thinking of them as in variations of their early twenties, because that’s the only thing that makes sense to me about Crystal’s worries. I loved Crystal in this book – her arc is really great to read. From where she starts to where she ends the book, there’s a lot of growing, maturity and stepping into her power. She gains confidence and skill and it’s so satisfying to read.
Jaik on the other hand…I’m honestly not sure. On one hand, I love him, I think he’s seriously in love with Crystal and willing to do anything for her. But on the other, I think his love for Crystal blinds him and causes him to act rashly and overprotectively. He’s got perceived ideas about what his future looks like, and really doesn’t seem to want to deviate from it. I don’t know, for as much as I love his character, I feel like he could really go the twisted route.
And then there is the ending for this book…I need the next one. I need to know what happens next. Things are just starting to get really interesting and the answers to questions that are on the line, hanging in the balance are waiting to be discovered. Things about Starlatten came to light in this book and I want to know – no, I need to know. I need their journey and I need to know what is on the other end of it.
I definitely recommend checking out this series – it’s a good, run, relatively quick SFF read that will leave you wanting the next book.
Second book of the Starlatten trilogy. Second book I have devoured way too quickly, going to bed way too late. I usually always read the last sentence of every book I read, but this time I tried very hard not to do so because I wanted to keep the mystery alive til the end; trust me it was DIFFICULT. I loved meeting all the characters once again. The love triangle got my heart racing quite a few times for many different reasons. Discovering a new planet and new relationships. Fight scenes. Space travel. A "wedding". Death. Purple grass. Blue soup. That book had it all!
Very enjoyable, addictive sequel: exciting, great character development, amazing settings, fantastic and believable world building... I can't wait for book three!
