I really liked this book. It was different from anything else I've read. I have seen this authors work while scrolling through FB or IG, but this is my 1st read by her. Although her ass might be crazy, I'm gonna check out more of her work. That crazy makes for a good read!
I did not like Nova as a person. But I loved her as a character, so I was still rooting for her. I didn't like how she handled being spurned by people she loved, but she was very clear about the fact that she knew she was wrong and didn't give a FUCK! And she probably really couldn't help it. It seemed like her mother's children came out, each one crazier than the last; Jacob seemed like he had the most sense, then they leaped over a few layers of crazy with Nova, then Josiah was just off his goddam rocker.
I can get with petty revenge to a degree. I was down for her fucking Ox, I was even down for her fucking Kojo. I know that was Emory's homeboy, but I don't think homeboys are off limits, especially when your nigga is cheating with multiple women. Sorry...I'm not obligated to be loyal to you once you cross me. Your homeboy the one gotta remain loyal. And if he chooses not to, 🤷🏽♀️. Granted, she was fine, and she pushed up on Kojo hard, but he had the opportunity to tell Emory the first time she made her desire for him clear and he didn’t. So that was his fault.
Now the whole plan to get pregnant by him was too much. A kid is a long term consequence. And she didn’t anticipate wanting to stay with Emory after what he did, so then she had to keep lying and covering just to make sure Emory didn't leave her. She just created too many problems for herself and opened the door to some Karma she wasn't expecting; enter Shanice nut ass.
This shit read like a a few months of Young and the Restless or something. So many twists that had you with the "Oh Shit" look.
I wasn't expecting Shanice to steal Nova's baby, that turned out to be Kojo's and not Emory's, who ended up getting Christine pregnant when he cheated on Nova. I was mad about that and I was mad that Christine didn't lose that baby (I can say that about an imaginary baby). As much as Nova kind of deserved the harvest she sowed, I still wanted things to work out for her and Emory. But that might just be because I'm craving a happy ending after all the drug dealing, robbing and murdering I been partaking in lately - In the books yall, not forreal. I'm a green square.
Anyway, all that to say this shit was good.
