Cocktail is a compilation of four inspiring stories where the protagonists are dynamic, courageous, and freethinkers. The purpose of this book is to make the readers travel through a journey of self-realization. The main characters of these stories pursue unconventional career goals. Their conviction, individuality, and vision have made them legendary in their own rights. Their predicaments have been depicted through their stories – discomfort in their work lives, turmoil in their personal relationships, struggles of building educational and vocational setups in their villages. This book aspires to motivate us to think beyond “peer pressure” and live a life of our own choices. How these characters guide their lives through obstacles and societal stigmas will be an endorsement of their never say die attitude.Cocktail occupies a special place in my heart. I hope this book helps you find your inner self.
Being a successful BTech graduate after getting placed in quite a few renowned MNCs, I still opted to go with my passion for training students, and, needless to say, I had to go through many roadblocks and obstacles. When I came across this book, the blurb reverberated really well with me as I could identify myself in the stories, having experienced the same kind of grind.
The book is a culmination of four independent stories with the same underlying theme of being courageous and possessing never say die attitude, especially in the face of adversity. All the tales have kept career and self-realization as the primary focus as they are something that everyone, irrespective of background, always faces. This makes the plot much more relatable and realistic.
'Cocktail' is a brave and outstanding attempt to lift the spirits of those who feel lost. It compels the readers to stand up and take that one last chance so that you will have something to cherish in the latter half of your life, and it is not filled with regrets. The author has done really well in encapsulating her emotions in the form of a story. The cover is soothing, and the narration is detailed. Most of the stories are centered around women, so the lack of strong male characters could have been avoided. Human behavior is beautifully sketched all throughout the book.
Overall, it is excellent work that shows us different dimensions of life.
It’s a unique book. It’s a collection of four short but not so short stories. I liked this concept of the author. There are four independent stories that are different from each other. I will briefly summarise the concept that will give the general idea about the book. Sanchita is the protagonist of the first story. She is a working girl. I guess all of the working women can related to her more or less. I liked how author has paid attention to the smallest details while narrating a story like biometric punching time like things. My favourite story is “Twist of Bond” because the relationship between Kastur and Basudha has been portrayed too beautifully. It was written perfectly. Like every event, emotions and the environment have been described too perfectly in that. We can feel the delicacy of moment in that story. I won’t discuss the plot as they are short stories and only four. So it will lead to spoilers. But I like them as the protagonist of the stories are courageous and free thinkers as described in the blurb. I liked the concepts incorporated such as career goals and peer pressure as it’s too realistic and majority are facing such issues. The language of the book is lucid. The narration style of the author is captivating. I expected to read more from the author. I liked the plot of every story. Overall good one. Nice and light read.
My Takeaways: - A book of the Time that has an outgoing air about it. - Four short stories, each consisting of four to five parts, are compiled into 1 book. - Each of them deal with a separate facet of life; a different POV of life. -What remains constant of these stories are their desperate urge to Live. - Protagonists of these stories are ordained to go through obstacles of varied intensity. Yet they never give up. These stories are a constant reminder of: When Life gives you Lemon, make a lemonade out of it. - The author, Antara Sarkar, has her way with words. They are lucid, flowy and reader friendly. Though, there are places where she could have kept her words at the minimal. - The narrative has grip. The author's eye for details help her reader's to imagine the entire scene. - The length is short and thus could be read in 1 continuous flow. - I didn't like the first story, to be honest. I thought it lacked depth and a bit exaggerating. But from the second story onward, the author had my entire attention. I loved how the author plotted on the intricacy of emotions.
SHOULD YOU READ THIS BOOK? This book is a light read and short-time read. I recommend this book to any reader, above 15 years of age. For one requires the maturity to understand the complecacy of life.
Ever had that problem with a story that didn't make a mark in your mind? Like you read and finished but nothing stuck with you or made you think? This will not be a problem if you give this collection of short stories a read. Each story took me less than 20 mins to finish and boy were they thought provoking. Each of them choose to concentrate on a different emotions or even agenda but then result was the same, you kept churning the stories in your mind. Like what happened after this, did it work? Did it open more doors? Were they each other's destiny or actual star crossed... And so many more questions... I had an exam today and took little breaks in between revisions last night to finish this one. Ps when was the last time a story made you feel this way?
Cocktail is collection of four very motivating stories. Each story inspire us to possess the courage to face hurdles in our journey towards a happy life. Sanchita's story was my favorite which taught me how we can always choose to live your life on your terms. The choice of your life should be happiness centric.
The best thing about the book is that it persuades readers by means of story to face obstacles and be brave enough to keep going and never give up. The language of the book is very clear and narration is captivating. Plot of each story is so amazing that at the end of each story you'll be left wanting more of the story. Antara has done commendable job with this book.
Cocktail is a nice light book written the amazing budding author Antara Sarkar. This is her debut book and the first of many more amazing books to come. As the name suggest this is a Cocktail of 4 good short stories. All these titles and stories are so interesting and all of them have a good moral in the end. My favorites were Warmth Of The Lap and Goodwill Path. All the protagonists are dynamic, courageous, and free thinkers and through these stories we see the discomfort in their work lives, turmoil in their personal relationships, struggles of building educational and vocational setups in their villages and follow them on this journey of self realization. I had a great time reading this book. The thing that I loved the most is that all the characters are so real I mean we all know someone in the same position or have gone through it so the stories are able to establish a great emotional connection with the readers which is great considering the small length of the book. Also I liked how the author describes the scenes and places. Moreover the way this book motivates us to overcome obstacles and think beyond “peer pressure” and live a life of our own choices is praise worthy. However, there were a few places where I felt that the story was rushed or took a abrupt turn but other than that they were good stories also I thought that it would be great if the stories were a bit longer. I'll conclude by recommending this book to everyone. If you like short stories or are search for a light book on self realization then you will love this.
Amazingly woven like an interesting spell. I didn't think this book was going to be this good. It was , as you might expect , engaging , a total different piece of art from every aspect. It sets a very high bar for whatever he does that comes next. Must Read
One of the best books I have read this month! Highly recommend it! I only leave positive feedback and reviews when I love the book. Feel free to ask anything regarding this book. A must read for sure.
' The picture of our society can be more beautiful if we pull each other up with the awakened minds. '
The book contains four inspiring stories. The protagonist in every stories are brave and will motivate the readers to live life on their own terms. The first story 'Warmth of Lap' describes how an introverted Sanchita achieves success in her career but when it comes to her personal life, she feels alone amd misses home. After so many relationship failures she's afraid to settle down, but these failures made her more strong and independent. I loved all the stories, each story describes a different emotion, the hurdles we face in life, that our happiness is way more important than anything else and it inspires readers to live life to the fullest. The stories are written in simple language and could be read in one sitting.
It is a book which talks about life, struggles of our life at different phases. It also shows how one overcomes their struggle through effort and willpower. A parallel road of incidents and human thought process keep going in all the stories. The book is highly recommended for the youngsters who can be inspired to be courageous, and hardworking.
Cocktail by author Antara Sarkar consists of 4 different, inspiring, and unique stories which are not only motivational but also impactful in readers life indeed. The stories beautifully enclosed the author's own personality through it. Author her self a very dynamic person as well as her protagonists, which impressed me genuinely.
The book "Cocktail" has the capability to allow readers space for self-realization as well. Each story has some very impactful thoughts and struggles which will learn readers to fight, to be steady and strong.
The author's writing style is very standard and lucid what makes this book fast-paced. Sometimes it was a little boring that's why it took time to complete. Narrations are fast but could be more engaging.
The plot is unique and appreciative at the same time. This kind of story always makes my mind motivated and I get the confidence to live my life the way I want. This is compelling fiction with a nonfiction touch. Undoubtedly, I love this concept.
All characters are well introduced and developed with time. The protagonist is the crystal example of, doesn't matter how many obstacles come, how strong the boundary is, struggle, willing power, and goals of life will lead you to success.
It was a good time with the book and recommended for all. The cover is beautiful and enchanting. The title is interesting as well. It's a ⭐⭐⭐.3/5 read. I have enjoyed it.
Four short stories compiled in a book.Light and soothing read. This books inspires you.Another thing great about this book is in those four stories, there are amazing and empowered women. It also shows how the smallest things or efforts can effect your life.Twist of bond is my favorite chapter. It was filled with raw emotions. The simplicity of this book, doesn't rob you the diversity in those chapters. It might not be the best fiction, it shows the potential the author has.I will recommend the book to whomever is looking for a light-hearted read.
I have read this book and reviewed for a news portal. This is basically a well-written book about 4 people. How they live their live and cope up with the changes from one time to another. Overall, a good read, I liked the first story where a young girl feels lost when she is out for education and job.
Wonderful writing, beautiful concept and the interplay of characters makes it a very intriguing read. Characters are well defined with a unique form of storytelling.
"Cocktail" is very aptly named because it is necessarily a cocktail or a punch of four short stories compiled inside it. The protagonists or the main leads of each story are considered unrestricted and dwelling spirits filled with everything but cannot be happy. This book translates through unique stories how people transverse into a mirage, a made-up reality known as True Love. People have dreams to achieve, which are easy to dream of, but it is actually complicated to chase it down and along the right pre-determined path. My favorite story is "Twist of Bond" because of how beautifully the relationship between Kastur and Basudha has been portrayed. Every character outline has been crafted deftly and skilfully and brings each character to life. I loved the plot sketch, the characterization, and each little emotion behind the stories. The women shown to be working in the first story were empowering. Every day is a dilemma for people who strive to achieve the impossible, and it's how every story ends, through the journey of people and things falling at their place. The free protagonists with strength and zeal of life will glue your eyes to the pages all the more. Overall, this book is a great read which will soothe your inner soul. The grammar was lucid, the morals relevant, and the narration was so easy and smooth that it was almost tuned.
The Cocktail is a compilation of some short stories, giving life lessons at the end of the chapter. The four stories are connected to one another by one thread of finding a life purpose. It's a type of book that keeps you intrigued, and you wish to complete the book ASAP. It's a short read, one that you can complete while traveling or on a picnic. I liked all the four stories, though all of them had an open end🤦♀️ Whyyyyy! Anyways, the vocabulary is excellent, though I found some grammatical mistakes here and there, it wasn't that significant, and the fast-paced plot overshadows them. I absolutely loved the first short story. It had my heart. The morals the author has given at the end are really inspiring and unique. The stories take so many surprising turns, but in the end, all of the protagonists seek a way to find happiness in different mediums. The storyline gets a little boring in between, but then it dragged me directly to the main twist altogether. To sum up, a perfect light read.
This book is a combination of four stories written in total 200 pages. The language used is easy and the four stories are based on different topics.
I love the way author tried to convey a good message through every story where after each story you will find a 'Moral' written as well. The stories are about self love or realization, relationship issues, career and society. According to me, this is the plus point for the book as the content was unique and narration of each story is beautiful. The four stories were : ✔Warmth of the Lap ✔Twist of Bond ✔Way to the Horizon ✔Goodwill Path
Lovely titles, right?😍 The writing style was amazing but I still thought that some stories were little bit stretched out which sounded monotonous at some points. Author could have removed some unneccessary details. Otherwise, I would say the content is unique and presentation of the story is just perfect! Recommended to everyone who love reading short stories.
The Cocktail is a combination of 4 stories of 4 different women coming from diverse backgrounds. The stories tell us about their lives, their difficulties, and how they deal with them. Each story ends with a moral, and it tells the reader what we can learn from the lives of the four women. Imagine life as a cocktail of emotions and events – you sometimes get promoted, and hence you become happy. Sometimes you lose your loved one, and you get dejected. These emotions and events run our life and even momentarily decide what we have to do and what we want to be. But none of us take time to sit back and analyze what life teaches us and make our lives better. But instead, we just go with the flow and get ourselves all messed up. This book deals with such messing up and coming back. The author has done an outstanding job giving us amazing stories and ending them with good morals for the readers to read and implement. The plot of the stories was good, but the pace was slow. Good narration style. Would recommend this book for a leisure read.
Cocktail of short stories! 4/5 Star Review! Antara Sarkar has put a book together of 4 short stories. The first is Warmth of the Lap. The second is Twist of Bond. The third is Way to the Horizon. The forth is Goodwill Path. They were each inspiring stories and each dealt with personal relationships. I found myself wanting to read more from this author at the end of a couple of these shorts. I did my best to be understanding of that, as I also write short stories and have been told the same. I do hope she will write a novel. Her grammar was on point. She does a brilliant job of describing people and places, and putting you in the story. Bravo Antara Sarkar!
* B O O K R E V I E W * If you are looking for a short quick read with multiple perspectives this is definitely a book for you! I loved getting to know these main ladies as we followed them throughout the book and how smoothly the writing was between perspectives. Each character you connect with in a different way and watch them grow as a woman. The author did an amazing job showing how strong and independent these woman are that I wish I had more of their stories. All in all I throughly enjoyed this book and would recommend. Thank you @antara.saarkar for a gifted e-copy of this book!

This book is a compilation of four very inspiring stories (Warmth of the Lap, Twist of Bond, Way to the Horizon, Goodwill Path) where the protagonists are courageous and free thinkers.
Through these stories, we get to know the turmoil in their relationships, discomfort in their work lives. Struggles of building educational and vocational setups in their villages. It will take the readers on a journey of self-realization. The characters are very well developed. Other than that, Scenes and situations are also beautifully described. All in all, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

A light read consisting of four short stories. Each story centers around different individuals who are in differing life stages and all face a variety of obstacles relating to their career, family, or relationships. It feels as though the reader has stepped into the middle of their life journey and is seeing a snippet of what the characters are going through in that period of time. The readers are not only able to see into the lives of these characters, we are also able to learn and receive advice that is applicable to our own lives.
Things I enjoyed about this book: 1. There are insightful conversations where advice is given between the characters of the story. I loved how the main lead in the first story is learning through her experiences and how her father tells her stories (it's like reading a story within a story) in order to help her realize things about herself. It's satisfying to learn and hear advice through the main lead and realize that the reader can apply the same lessons in real life. 2. Some descriptions of setting and background are portrayed detailedly, allowing the reader to visualize the space the characters are occupying. 3. There are many instances where culture is a relevant part of the story, so it was enjoyable to learn about the customs and traditions that the characters live by in each of the short stories.
There is a never-ending quest for love and peace in us. We hardly realise that life isn't just about chasing things we want but accepting what it brings us however bitter it is. Life should be accepted the way it comes to us. Cocktail weaves story around people who struggles with their emotions to find a way out in the journey of life.
The diction is simple and it instantly lifts up our spirits. Every character of "Cocktail" realises the purpose and priorities of their lives with clarity of thoughts. We feel one with them because the problems are realistic and we face those same dilema often.
The book deals with four different stories, each with its own conflicts. The common factor that connects the four stories is a longing for happiness. On reading the novel one would realise that happiness can't be chased but is found when we are at peace with ourselves. The feeling of happiness comes to us when we realise we are made up of our choices and whether they are tough or painful we should own them. If we own our choices and flaws and scars we never want to talk about we find solace, a sense of fulfillment and that leads us to happiness.
The book is definitely a wonderful read because it inspires in many ways. It is extremely relatable and hence it motivates us to find a way out to deal with our difficulties. The strong female protagonists of each story deals with a completely different theme and I loved this about the novel. No wonder the name "Cocktail" is a perfect one for the book.
The first story felt like I was reading about some friend which is why the book should be read. You feel one with the characters. Simplicity and lucidity of expressions is something this book has in abundance and that is its beauty.
Cheers to self realisations. I realised my choices are my own and I won't chase things unnecessarily when my mental peace is without it. Happy places always exist, we get too hard on ourselves and do not choose them. Choosing something which isn't difficult doesn't mean you aren't brave enough. You don't have to end up in a battle with yourself always. Do what you love and win wars.

At first glance, I presumed that the book is about some alcoholic mixed drink as 'Cocktails' are generally either a combination of spirits mixed with other ingredients such as fruit juice, flavored syrup, or cream. However, the cover gave away a very different answer with it's beautiful picture than what I had assumed earlier. Going further, this book is basically a collection of 4 short stories. They're all independent of each other by varying measures. The main underlying theme behind all the stories is courage & motivation. The stories tells us to stay strong with the never ending zeal to give up; to possess the undying courage to face all the obstacles no matter what life pushes towards us. That's the strongest aspect of this book as it encourages readers to be brave enough to face any situation by instilling them with this aspect via it's stories. According to me, that's what makes it very interesting to read. Additionally, various human emotions which are of poignant nature & importance have been highlighted/portrayed very nicely.
I won't delve much into the story, but I would say is that I really liked reading this book. It's not the everyday monotonous novel we read every now & then or come across often. The very fact that it 'emphasises mainly on women being the central character' - promotes empowerment of girls in every way possible. The main issue which is prevalent throughout the society these days is the fact that women are still suppressed even in this 21st century - by not letting them study or pursue higher education or their dreams or marry their loved ones or anything as per their desires for the sake of saying - is really disheartening & I feel it's a matter of utmost concern. However, here it promotes career & life goals which is pleasing to know.
Language is simple. Narration is okay. Writing style is normal. Vocabulary is okay. Pace is okay-ish. Plot is well chafted. Synchronisation is okay. A good one-time read.
"Cocktail" is a collection of 4 short stories which are truly unique in their plot. Even though they have simplicity, the stories have the potential to stay in the reader's heart forever. The Author is too good at developing characters which adds value to the book. All four stories are written with a different theme, yet I could find one thing common in them are complicated relationships.
Warmth of the Lap deals with finding our true happiness, and it conveys the Moral that we don't necessarily have to stay in the so-called Luxury world to stay happy. The absolute joy is hidden in small moments of our life. It's hidden in kindness & mercy. This story also shows the parent love beautifully.
Twist of Bond deals with complex relations, and this story is too unique and touches the sensitive side. The way the story is written, I'm falling short of words to praise it.
Way to the Horizon falls under a mature short story with an ambition to know about our ancient knowledge. The story shows there are bonds without the names & beyond that.
Goodwill path, as the name suggests, has an inspiring motive in this story. The Author's intention to contribute to the goodness of society is clearly visible. We need more people like the characters in this story for the development of our nation.
Overall, As I started, I couldn't put this book down. I connected a lot to Sanchita in her decision because she holds a part of my personality, and it was a positive story. But my personal favorite one is "Twist of Bond." The Author has left the choice on the readers, I even felt the story bit incomplete, but that's the beauty of this story. Any conclusion could have ruined the plot. It was susceptible, and this story will stay with me always. This is definitely the best read of the month. I strongly recommend it to all book lovers. The language is easy & beginner-friendly; hence, if someone starts with their first book, they can count on it. Loved all the short stories. Looking forward to reading more by the same Author!!
I received COCKTAIL 📬 from @antara.saarkar a few weeks back and since then I had these lines imprinted on my mind. 📝 𝗜𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀..? It must be painful to come to a realisation that what you assumed to be his passionate love was nothing but his lust that bulged out upon seeing any attractive woman. 🔊 COCKTAIL will introduce you to this fascinating world of emotions, beliefs and philosophy. The alley of realisations that the characters passes through will fill you with a Hope of good time.🤜🏻🤛🏻 • • The climax, though a little abrupt, was depicting the reality of facts. How characters 🤝🏻could finally surrender themselves to the blissful shelter of love and sleep to salvage the situation had me wondering at the simplicity of our lives. 🎩 • • Truly, Change is the only inevitable truth on the wall of time. ⏰ • • I would also like to Congratulate @antara.saarkar 😁 for taking audacious stance of choosing to execute her compassionate dream of writing. "Heartbreak is an inseparable part of lifr; it is more painful for some and less for the others."
Cocktail by Antara Sarkar, as the name suggests is a combination of four short stories embarking several virtues and morals. Each giving you a different thought provking finale. The stories revolve around the lives of various working class individuals which makes the plotline more genuine and relatable.
Impactful 🌱 ----------- Sarkar has created some of the most realistic and relatable characters. With short stories character development can be a difficult job but she has written the evolution in a well paced and practical way. Especially, Sanchita and Kastur's development. Also, Priyam Devi's character is one of the best depictions of a mother. The plotline for all the four stories says a lot about life and pivotal decisions which have been written in a fast paced and interactive way. The reader finds themselves engrossed in the story telling. The writing style for the book is adequately descriptive and of course, metaphorical. You can easily say that Sarkar is an observer of the elements of nature and life. Her writing style is so unique, simple structuring with a deeper meaning.
Impotent 🌱 ---------- I don't exactly have anything that I would change about the book because I think it was well penned except, a few stories had some loose ends which could enhance the experience, that's all.
It was a wonderful read and I loved the writing style for it's simplicity and approach towards life. Definately a must!
When I decided to buy this book, I was looking for a quick read that can intrigue the reader and give the satisfaction of reading. While the book has its flaws, it gave me just that. I enjoyed reading it and do recommend it. While I do really want to talk about the individual stories, it will risk unknowingly giving out some spoilers. But, I did have some favorite lines from the book -
(1) Over time, life moulds. It completely restructures our ideologies and beliefs. (2) The bird had returned to her own nest to taste the pleasure of confinement. (3) There is no compulsion to do something when you aren't truly happy with it. You can always choose to live your life on own terms. (4) When emotions reach an extreme, we lose our words.
Now, what I loved about the book - (1) For most parts, the protagonists have been interesting enough to hold the attention of the readers. (2) The language used is simple and lucid, so we can focus completely on the storylines. (3) The storylines in itself are appreciable. (4) The relatability of the entire book is extremely high. The characters can be anyone we know. (5) I loved the messages conveyed by the author.
What could have been better - (1) I felt that atleast two stories ended abruptly. I was completely engrossed in the narration, expecting more. And the story concluded just like that. (2) I felt the first story could have done well with a bit more depth. (3) Atleast to me, the morals given at the end of stories did not match for a story or two.
Overall, a good nice read. Go ahead and pick it up!!
