As someone who is considering a career change to medicine, this was exactly the first book I needed to read. This book takes you through the whole process of becoming a doctor, from emerging thoughts of becoming a pre-med student to finishing your residency. Although the latter parts may be far, far away in my future, I read through the entire book, and I think I got a much clearer picture of the process and various stresses I will be put through. Overall, after reading Med School Confidential, I am still terrified about some parts of the process (e.g. getting in in the first place!) but at the same time I feel reassured that this may be the correct path for me, much more knowledgeable, and seriously excited about getting started on this adventure!

This is a great book for someone considering medical school, already going to medical school, or someone who's friend or loved-one is headed in that direction. It certainly doesn't sugar coat the med school experience, but it doesn't seem to be too pessimistic either. Instead, it seems to offer an honest guide to the tough path to (and through) medical school. Definitely something I plan to refer to again and again throughout my journey!

This book is a fabulous resource for those who are considering a career in medicine or for those who have already begun the preparations. It covers everything from choosing medicine as a vocation to finishing up residency and includes a lot of advice from other residents who were in the reader's shoes not long ago. The book also includes a section written by the wife of an MD to the spouses, families and other loved ones of the potential doctor.

The book is a powerhouse of information and a pretty good read. The authors don't treat the topic too formally and it doesn't get too heavy.

Read the parts about first year only
But this book was a good start to my med school. Gave me enough confidence. Maybe I need to revisit.

Thousands of High school students struggle with applying to college especially students who want to apply to med-school. In the book, Med School Confidential, written by Robert H. Miller and Daniel M. Bissel, there is a lot of advice for students applying to med school and information that will better prepare them to apply. With upcoming pre med students who are trying to understand the world of applying.
This book is fully based on the harsh truth of applying to med school since a lot of teens are in the dark and lost about the progres. But this book shows you what you can do and shows step by step of the process. The people in this book are college students, professors and medical staff which is great because it tells you their real life experiences. The biggest conflict I see in this book is it tells you peoples experience but everyone is different so you won’t know yours. Since every person is different you don’t know how you will be able to cope with the stress and if you will be able to deal with the amount of work you will get.
My opinion on this book is very high. I do like the fact that I can re-read this book if I ever feel unsure about something or I need to learn how to apply to places and I can look back on the book. It is written out very well and organized. I noticed it flows very nicely and I don’t feel lost in the book. I feel as if I'm in control. The weaknesses in this book is sometimes when you read you think to yourself this is a lot of work I have to do and then you start overthinking if you picked the right career path. But with all that overthinking you can go to pages 259 and 268, they have chapters that talk about how to calm your nerves not just applying, they include how to take care of our stress and mental health in this book.
I think the people who would enjoy this book are the people applying and the parents' significant others as well since there are some pages on how your spouse and parents will feel. I also think current doctors would enjoy reading this book because on page 82 it shows how to make the perfect personal goals in residency and many years after. I don't think people who aren't going to be a doctor would enjoy this since it's all useless information to them. I would give it 10 out of 10 stars. I hope all current and future high schoolers struggling like me read this book and have a better understanding of it all.

I selected this book because the title seemed very interesting to me, since I am interested in Medical School. Before reading this book, I knew that it would be about Med School Processes, what will be students first things to do, so on. My overall reaction to this book is that I really liked it and enjoyed it. It was very organized book and I liked the style of it. I recommend this book to someone considering or going to Medical School, this will be the great book for them.

It is like the website med school confidential but into the book form with one person's perspective. I really enjoyed it, would be more beneficial to me if I were applying to actual medical school. Would probably read again during my undergrad years to prepare for medical school by then. If you are in college and looking for what it is like to be in medical school, even into the application process, this is a really good reference book to read.

This book was made in 2006 and it’s crazy how much life has changed since then. There are a few good take aways from the book. However, there is quite a bit of outdated information. I will probably just stick to watching YouTube videos to get similar, relevant information

As someone who is currently in the interview process for med school, I thought the book has overall good advice. I like how it breaks the process down. Certain things are slightly outdated, i.e. regarding MCAT and application timelines, but any premed should have the specific info available as they get closer to applying.

I actually learned a few things from this book like resources I can utilise that I wasn't aware of. It also broke down the med school process and it was nice to be better acquainted with that. I will definitely hold on to this book and re-read the parts that pertain to what I'm going through.

Really great guide. Deals with some of the feelings, and questions that arise, but kind of deals with it as it comes, which is great. Suggest it for anyone going through the process (whatever stage), or anyone you know who is. Another great gift from my brother. :)

An excellent overview of what going to med school would really be like. I'm currently completing my undergrad in Nursing and have seriously considered going into Medicine afterwards. This book really lays everything out so that you know what to expect.

Overall, an informative book that gave me a broad overview of med education and bits & pieces of advice on other relevant topics.
But I didn’t like the arrogant, hyped-up “med school is so great” tone.

Useful for anyone serious about entering the profession- it is straightforward and provides clear and good advice as far as I can tell...probably extremely boring and useless for anyone not on this path, though.

I discuss the book here:

This is a great book to guide anyone interested in the application process for medical school, how to apply with the highest chances of success, and how to endure the program itself, from medical student to resident.
