Yesiree! A bright new bedtime book illustrated by the creator of the award-winning COWBOY BABY.
Cowboy Kid loves Texas Ted, Denver Dog, and Hank the Horse with all his heart. Yes sirree! Before Sheriff Pa tucks him in, Cowboy Kid gives each toy a great big hug and a sleep-tight kiss. Now he's ready for bed. Or is he? Nosirree! Cowboy Kid reckons his friends might fancy just one more kiss, or a special blanket to keep them warm, or . . . one more kiss. Making sure everyone gets their fill of affection tuckers him out, but Cowboy Kid can't seem to round up any shut-eye, not until Sheriff Pa gathers him up in his arms with a wonderful secret.
Filled with familiar feelings and bold, simple illustrations, this bright bedtime tale reassures restless cowpokes—and exasperated parents—that sleepytime is just over the horizon.
The book title is what grabbed my attention first, as anything cowboy related I am interested in. The case cover was very vibrant, so that caught my eye as well. While reading, I noticed each page was a different color, but the spreads all looked similar with the format. I also noticed the fly papers and end papers matched and were colorful with lines. The story itself was a cute, wholesome one, not my favorite Children's book, but still good.
Cowboy Kid has a hard time falling asleep when he is overly concerned about his stuffed animals. The illustrations of the book are very bright and colorful. It can also be told without the text. The text is very basic and could be enjoyed by very early readers.
One star is probably harsh, and I don't really know all that much about children's writing, but it moved so slow in the beginning. Once you got to the pay off "Everyone needs so many kisses," the narrative decides not to be coherent and ends with a perplexing message.
This book doesn't really give much to the imagination. The only thing I get from it is that a little boy wouldn't go to sleep. There isn't really anything that I liked about this book.
A sequel that doesn't hold up in quality and cuteness of the original. However parents with children that struggle to stay in bed might use this book as a discussion starter.
