When bad girls lie, good girls die. A young girl found dead in a neighbor’s field. A fourteen-year-old who confesses. Just a child herself, could Chrissy Cornwall really be a cold-blooded killer? Years later, the murderer is getting out and Natalie Bryers, unable to forget the night of Jenny’s murder, still has questions. Did Chrissy lie then or is she lying now? Did she really kill Jenny? And if so, will she kill again?
Besides my family, my greatest love in life is books. Reading them, writing them, holding them, smelling them…well, you get the idea. I’ve always loved to read, and some of my earliest childhood memories are me, tucked away in my room, lost in a good book. I received a five dollar allowance each week, and I always — always — spent it on books. My love affair with writing started early, but it mostly involved journaling and writing silly poems. Several years ago, I didn’t have a book to read so I decided on a whim to write my own story, something I’d like to read. It turned out to be harder than I thought, but from that point on I was hooked. My first and second books were released by Sarah Book Publishing: This Is Not About Love and Grayson’s Ridge. I’m a total genre-hopper. Basically, I like to write what I like to read: a little bit of everything! I reside in Floyds Knobs, Indiana with my husband, three children, and massive collection of books. I have a degree in psychology and worked as a counselor.
WTH I just read! Breathe in, breathe out! Ob boy, my heart is beating too fast! It can explode any second!
For the love of all time best thriller novels, what a fantastic, soul crushing story I just finished! It is one of a kind: Blood freezing, gripping, nail biting, hair splitter, mind blowing!
Especially that sinister ending, those big bombs the author left on our laps which are exploded right into my face! Wowww! I need a strong drink! A chilled Chardonnay cannot fix the damage the book has done to my poor grey cells! They are liked fried green okras!
I’ll give a short summary of the story: Natalie Bryers, in her mid forties, living all alone at the farm she’s inherited from her family, working at Kmart, living aimlessly after the great tragedy more than three decades ago ruined their family!
When she was only nine, she has seen the corpse of Jenny who was only 14 found at their backyard of family house. The violent media, prying and gossiping town’s people pointed their fingers at by blaming them as perpetrators!
Then a girl comes from wrong side of town and dysfunctional family confesses the crime. Her name is Chrissy Cornwall and she was only 14! But how a girl who is just 14 can be the perpetrator of a vicious, gory, bloody murder! She told the officers it’s a crime of passion: both girl liked the same boy and one of them has to go. Could it be so simple to take another person’s life even though you’re under age and a scared child!
Now Chrissy is middle aged woman, recently released from the prison wants to talk with Natalie: actually she wants her write a book about the murder with new information she will provide. Ding ding she says she is innocent!
And Natalie who never used her writing skills and degree sees it as an opportunity for closure about the tragedy ruined her family. Her father is already passed away and her mother left them without contacting for years and her dearest brother Jack committed suicide. She’s all alone and this case has been haunting her for decades because deep down she knows Chrissy might tell her the truth and reality can be more devastating that she can ever imagine!
She will wish she never wrote to Chrissy to contact with her and start this mayhem she gets herself into. But she already started the fire and she’d better prepare herself to burn to the ground!
Breathing, excellently riveting page turner I highly recommend which earns well deserved, blazing, dark, claustrophobic, mind numbing five stars!
I’m so happy this book put this brilliant author on my radar. I’m looking forward to read more works of her.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK/ One More Chapter for sharing this impressive digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.
This is a Psychological Thriller. This book had me from the first page, and I really loved the build up this book takes you on. This book is a very fast pace book that gets to the point. There is not a lot of fluff put in which I loved. That ending WOW I really did not see coming, and I was living for it. I do think in some ways there could be a little more build up. I really did love the characters of this book. I also loved the old farm house setting this book takes place at. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (HarperCollins UK / One More Chapter) or author (Carissa Ann Lynch) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
When Natalie Breyas was nine-years old she saw the dead body of beautiful fourteen-year old Jenny Juliott out in the field of her family's farm and now thirty years later she still sees that pale and lifeless form whenever she happens to look out that same window. Chrissy Cornwall confessed and was convicted of the brutal murder when she was only a fifteen-year old at the time and now she is being released early from prison when she had received a life sentence and the majority of the people in town are angry and still unforgiving. Natalie has always thought there were unanswered questions about the killing and why Jenny's body was deposited on their farm since it had clearly been stated that heinous murder had occurred elsewhere. Natalie is a writer although nothing she has written has ever been published but now she knows what the the book is that she was meant to write. The true story of two teenage girls fighting over a boy that they were both in love with until one of them was so angry that she felt she had to eliminate her competition. Somehow, that story has never rung true to Natalie so she wants to set the story straight but also she really wants to understand what happened that night long ago because afterwards her family was never the same and she has so many questions that she needs answered. Now, how does Natalie get Chrissy Cornwall to talk to her when Chrissy has never given a single interview to anyone about that tragic night so long ago that cost not one but two young girls their future lives.
This was a terrific story about teenage love gone wrong and how the murder of one person affects the lives of so many others and not just their immediate family members although this particular book takes a different path to an shocking and unexpected ending that the majority of readers wouldn't have forseen this climatic and tragic conclusion. The characters were well developed and Carissa Ann Lynch really brought them to life. The story was atmospheric and well-plotted which had my mind going back and forth about other possible suspects and their motives and why Chrissy confessed to a murder she didn't commit or did she? The writing was so well-done and the book was the perfect length instead of being long and drawn out with many unnecessary words and extraneous phrases that happens in so many other books. Many parents forget the power of young love and raging hormones and think of it as "puppy love" but to teens in love sometimes it becomes a life and death matter where they can't ever imagine living without their soulmate. Lying is part of being a teenager but when the wrong lie is told to the wrong person, will murder become the only solution? If anyone wants to read something clever and very different, then don't hesitate to read this book!
I want to thank the publisher "Harper 360" (One More Chapter) and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this digital copy and any thoughts or opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!
I have given this book a rating of 4 ATMOSPHERIC AND TRAGIC 🌟🌟🌟🌟 STARS!!
“There is more than one way to kill a person. Not all of those ways involve death.” A teenager’s dead body is found in a field, and her teenage killer confesses to the murder. When the killer is released years later, the true mystery begins. Was the right person convicted, or did the real murderer evade the law? Some secrets are better left in the past. This fast paced, character driven thriller proves that ignorance can definitely be bliss. Who is the real villain in this twisted tale? “When bad girls lie, good girls die.” The question is, who is the liar? Thank you NetGalley and One More Chapter for my copy.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked the writing style, even though the main characters inner monologues became annoying. I could not predict where this book was going or who the murderer ultimately was, which was refreshing.
When young Jenny is found brutally murdered in a field, 14 year old Chrissy Cornwall confesses that she did it. Years later, Chrissy gets out of jail and Natalie Bryers who’s childhood home was near the murder scene decides to write a piece about the whole event. Natalie is connected to the murder more than she realizes and as she interviews Chrissy, she begins to have doubts that she actually committed the murder. Did Chrissy really kill Jenny?
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Gripping from the beginning to the chilling end. Just when I think I am reading too many thrillers in a row and it'll be predictable ~ WHAM I get totally blindsided ~ I did not see that twist coming.
When Natalie was 9 years old, Jenny, a popular 14 year old girl, was found brutally murdered on her family's farm. Local trailer park 15 year old girl, Chrissy, confesses to her murder. Now, some 30 years or so later, Chrissy is out on parole and folks from the small town are not happy one bit. Natalie has always wanted to be a published author, even has a degree, but she was never successful and is making ends meet by working at K-Mart. On a whim, she reaches out to Chrissy to try to figure out why she so easily confessed all those years ago in hopes of writing her story. As the pages turn more information is slowly, but not annoyingly so, revealed of what really happened that night.
For some reason, maybe because we first meet Natalie when she is 9, she always seemed somewhat immature to me, even when she's in her 40's. Perhaps it was because she was running outside in the middle of night because she heard a noise. What single lady would do that when living on a remote farm?
One thing about the barn ~
Fast paced with tons of action jammed packed in this quick read. Happy to have found a new author to devour again and again.
TW ~ Suicide, brutal teenage murder, and I did not care for one part that joked about child molestation.
*Thanks to Netgalley, Harper 360 and Carissa Ann Lynch for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*
I liked this thriller and found it to be an enjoyable story. The narrator had an interesting perspective - what would happen to a child whose property was where a body was discovered? Natalie grew up with the shadow of that crime over her, but the murder was caught and quickly convicted because she confessed, then 15 year old Chrissy. Chrissy has served 30 years of her life sentence and has now been paroled. Chrissy has claimed she was innocent and aspiring author Natalie decides she wants to tell their story, whatever the truth may be. I did like the twists, but I thought the end of the story came very quickly and it could have taken a little more time for the story. That being said the ending was good, just very quick.
She Lied She Died definitely kept me invested throughout the entirety of the book. The writing style was really engaging and easy to get into. Long story short, a convicted murderer is released after serving time, but claims she is innocent, …. Despite her confession. A would-be author with a strong connection to the case investigates and finds the truth and much of her life unravels as she does. I found this to be a fast and easy read. Even when I thought I knew, I was wrong. Recommended for those looking for a quick thrill and surprise. Many thanks and much appreciation to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK/ One More Chapter for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.
Holy Cow! This book sucked me in like a piece of lint run over by a Hoover vacuum cleaner! There are so many plot twists and lies, I did not know what to believe. She Lied She Died by Carissa Ann Lynch, is a G-R-E-A-T book you don't want to miss!!!
Main Characters: Jenny Juliott age-14, was a very popular and beautiful young girl. She was found murdered on the Breyas family farm. Who killed Jenny? Why was her body left in a field?
Natalie Breyas was just 9-years-old when Jenny's body was found on land owned by her family. As a adult, Natalie has never come to terms with the childhood trauma of seeing Jenny's dead body outside the window of her house. Natalie still has questions and knows who has the answers. Will she uncover the truth?
Chrissy Cornwell lived in a trailer next door to the Breyas farm. At 15-years-old Chrissy confessed to Jenny's murder, but did she really commit the crime? Is there more to the story?
This is such a juicy novel. Several times I thought I had it figured out, but boy was I wrong. This is my first Carissa Ann Lynch book. I am now a huge fan of her work. I highly recommend this 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read! It will be published April 26th.
Thank you NetGalley and Harper 360, for the joy of reviewing this thrilling e-book. I loved every page!
Natalie was nine when a body was discovered in her fathers field. The victim was teenager Jenny and she was brutally murdered and dumped. Christie Cornwell aged fourteen confesses to killing her and she is imprisoned.
We fast forward thirty years and Chrissie has been paroled, local residents do not want her to return, but Natalie wants to know the truth and Chrissie is adamant that she wasn’t the killer. Who was she protecting? Chrissie wants to tell her side of the story and have Natalie write a book about her, she says she has new evidence that will prove her innocence
A book that drew me in and kept me captive until the shocking ending. There are twists galore that kept me turning the pages frantically until I finished.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.
Jenny, a local teenager is found dead on Natalie's family property. Another teenager, Chrissy is found guilty. But, after 30years, Chrissy is set free and Natalie wants to know the truth. But the truth is another one, more tragic. A great thriller and I didn't expect this ending! Thank you Netgalley for this nice book.
She Lied She Died by Carissa Ann Lynch is a psychological thriller.
First, let me thank Edelweiss, the publisher One More Chapter (Harper Collins) and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions) When Natalie Breyas was 9, the dead body of 14 year old Jenny Juliott showed up on their farm. Another teenager, Chrissy Cornwall confessed to the crime, and has spent the last 30 years behind bars.
Natalie has never forgotten the night of that murder, and has often questioned how this could have happened. There have been plenty of rumours over the years, but it seemed to all boil down to a fight between the two girls over a boy.
Natalie has had her own problems since that night. A few years after the body was found, her mom left for greener pastures, then later her dad had a heart attack and died, and 10 years ago, her brother Jack committed suicide. Natalie found him. She came home to the farm after that, feeling guilty about Jack being alone, and her own depression would not let her leave. She always dreamed of being a writer, but has never published.
Now, Chrissy is out of prison, and proclaiming her innocence. She wants Natalie to tell her story. Natalie isn't sure what to believe. Did Chrissy lie when she confessed to the murder, and if so why? Or is she lying now?
My Opinions: This was quite good. It is a short, fast read. Note that it is much shorter than anticipated, because the last number of chapters are actually the start of another book -- I hate when they do that, as I figure I still have quite a ways to go in the book, and suddenly it's done!
That being said, the actual story was well plotted out, and although I had an idea as to the identity of Jenny's murderer early on, there were other twists that I had not seen coming. WOW!
The writing is very good, the pace fast, and the characters captivating. An entertaining, fast read.

Carissa Ann Lynch's novel She Lied She Died was a fascinating, bloodcurdling, unputdownable read for me!
Natalie Bryers was only 9 when she was awakened by a rumpus on her family’s farm. It turned out that a young girl, Jenny Juliott had been brutally murdered and dumped in the field. Later, Chrissy Cornwall, 14, admitted to killing her and was sentenced to prison. Now, 30 years later, Chrissy is back in her hometown in Ohio. But Natalie, unable to forget the night of Jenny’s murder, still has unanswered questions...
This was such a creepy story that really kept me guessing. The author set the small-town scene really well complete with the sombre and oppressive atmosphere. As the story progressed, the twists kept coming and each character had their own concealments. The chapters were quite short, making for a slightly faster read. I thought I knew where this story was going but I did not anticipate the powerful, gobsmacking ending.
I'm so pleased I took the time to read She Lied She Died and I will be waiting for more from Carissa Ann Lynch. 😊 ❄🥶
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from One More Chapter via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
She lied, She died was a fast-paced & twisted thriller. This one got done pretty quick. It had a good number of twists - some I saw coming a long way off but for the most part it was unforeseeable & very exciting to read. I loved the setting of this book. It made the plot all the more atmospheric! The characters were good, balanced & felt real. No miss goody two shoes or naive characters that leave me frustrated. The ending was good but felt abrupt & for some reason didn't give me a sense of closure. I've like Carissa Ann Lynchs's Without a Trace a lot & decided to pick this one up. I'm so glad I did. This was a very compelling read for me & I enjoyed reading this book.
Thank you, NetGalley, Harper Collins UK, One more chapter & Carissa Ann Lynch for an arc!
This was a quick read with some good twists. I read it on my Kindle and it ended at only 74% to move into excerpts from other books, so the ending felt abrupt to me, but might not have been if I had expected it. The story centers on Natalie, who still lives at the farm where the body of teenager Jenny was found 30 years ago. Another teenager, Chrissy, confessed to the crime but has just been released from jail, and Natalie, a struggling writer, sees this as the opportunity to find out what really happened.
The book is not very long so there is lots of action- the reader gets a good idea of who Natalie is even though there isn't as much time spent on her background. The big twist absolutely caught me off guard, but once revealed, made total sense. I did find the end of the book not super satisfying as it related to the culmination of the story between Chrissy and Natalie.
Overall, fun read and good mystery. I think I finished this book in a couple hours so I would recommend it for those who are looking for a shorter book- just be prepared that it will end early on your Kindle!
I flew through this mystery and my mind went everywhere but nothing prepared me for the ending! One of the best crime thrillers I’ve read in awhile. Highly recommend. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Natalie is still living in her childhood home, trying to come to terms with the horrific murder she had witnessed as a child. Jenny had been murdered and Chrissy had confessed and she was sent to prison. Natalie had seen the aftermath as it happened on her family's farm. Natalie became obessed to why the murder had happened. Chrissy has now been released from prison and Natalie wants her to write a book out laying her reasons for murdering Jenny.
This is a gripping read. Nothing is what it seems. Theres lots of twists and turns. It's well written and the plotline is intriguing. I could not put this book down. The characters are all likeable. This is a really good whodunit. I never saw the surprising ending coming.
I would like to thank #NetGalley, #HarperCollinsUK #OneMoreChapter and the author #CarissaAnnLynch for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
An unsettling air of eeriness and uneasy surrounds this story. It's dark. It's tragic. It's devastating. It's like tumbling down the rabbit hole into a nightmare. And it's absolutely fabulous!!
I was hooked on this story from the beginning until the mind-blowing end! There's no question, Carissa Ann Lynch is a fabulous writer. I will read ANYTHING this woman writes!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, mind blown is all I can say! I’ve been Ms. Lynch’s fan ever since she published her first book, but she really outdid herself with this one! From the opening scene and its gruesome discovery, I was riveted to my kindle. When the supposed perpetrator returns to a quiet town and claims her innocence, the protagonist Natalie is faced with a difficult choice: to discover the truth no matter what it may be or turn away from the past and try to forget how it affected her and her family. When she ultimately chooses the truth, she finds herself on a dangerous path that may very well lead to an unexpected and devastating ending. The gloomy atmosphere of a small town was wonderfully set; the characters were all real and multidimensional; the plot is deliciously creepy and dark and the twist in the very end left me with my mouth open. I felt like I was watching the events unfold right in front of me, smell the decay, and sit face to a face with a possible murderer. “She Lied She Died” is an extremely powerful, haunting read that I couldn’t get enough of and which I’d highly recommend to all fans of the genre. I wish they made a movie or a Netflix series based on it - it’s that good!
"Pretty truths or ugly lies, which one do you choose?"
Fourteen-year-old Jenny Juliott was found dead decades ago on the field at the Breyas farm. Chrissy Cornwall, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, just a child herself, confessed to her murder and was currently being released from prison. But now Chrissy was claiming her innocence in Jenny's death. Was she lying then or is she lying now?
Natalie Breyas lives at the farm and gets the opportunity she's been waiting for to launch her writing career, the chance to write a book telling Chrissy's side of the story. With a town strongly opposed to Chrissy's return, Natalie sets out to uncover the truth in a somewhat risky endeavor. Who can she trust as she tries to unravel this complicated web of lies?
"Is it better to administer the truth in small doses, or inject it all at once? I used to think I knew the answer, but I know nothing anymore."
As Natalie learns more about what happened that fateful night, she finds truth and lies tangled in the shadows of the past with hidden family secrets at every turn. How well does she even know her own family? And what would she be willing to do to protect them?
Captivating, thought provoking and well paced with plenty of twists, She Lied, She Died kept me engaged in the story throughout. Atmospheric descriptions and brewing thunderstorms added to the eerie setting and the secrets and evil hidden within its depths. I couldn't see, however, what made Natalie so trusting of Chrissy, enough to let her spend the night in her own house, other than simple intuition that there was more to her story. Initially, I also found some of the characters to be unlikable but I understood them better and became more invested as the plot unfolded.
Ultimately, this was a story about young love, jealousy and revenge, asking what lengths you would go to follow what's in your heart. With an interesting look at family dynamics and a path of lies hiding the truth, this ended incredibly with an unexpected plot twist that blew me away completely. And it leaves the reader with one final thought. Is it better to learn the truth at any cost or to remain oblivious in the lies of the unknown?
"They say that the truth will set you free. But sometimes truth is the prison."

One of my favorite mystery/thriller writers is Carissa Ann Lynch, she is one of those authors that every time she releases a new book - I jump on it as I know I will enjoy it. In She Lied, She Died the book starts with the main character Natalie as an 8-9-year-old girl. She notices a commotion on her family's farm - it is a local girl known as Jenny - she has been murdered and left to die. Shortly, the town will arrest with a confession - Chrissy who was a bit of a bad girl and trailer trash. She was the one, born on the wrong side of the tracks and the opposite of Chrissy. Chrissy went to prison and was branded as a child killer; it didn't matter that she was a year younger than Jenny as Chrissy was 14 years old and Jenny was 15 years old. Years later, we discover that not only Chrissy's life changed that fateful night but also her own family. We learn that Natalie's mother ran off shortly after and then her brother Jack - ten years ago killed himself and then now her dad has passed away and Natalie is alone and living at the farm. Chrissy has just been released on parole and Natalie is eager to know what happened that night as she was impacted too. Chrissy agrees to talk to Natalie as finally she can try and prove her innocence as Natalie is aiming to write a true crime novel about the incident. What will happen though when the truth is revealed and Natalie discovers her family was more involved than she originally thought and some dark secrets in her family closet are revealed? I felt for Natalie in this book especially when we learn more about the night her mother disappeared and more about her brother's suicide. This book also has a strong focus on how far parents will go to protect their children and how guilt is one of those ugly emotions that can do so much damage and eat people alive. If you are a thriller lover and have not yet read a Carissa Ann Lynch, then she is a name to add to your must-read authors list.
A gripping small town murder mystery book that keeps you on the edge of your seat! This book was very well written, from setting the dark atmosphere of a gloomy small town, the captivating characters and a story line that keeps you guessing. I would highly recommend this book.
Now, that is my kind of title. Pulls me right in and instantly has my attention.
This is my first book by Carissa Ann Lynch, but without one doubt in my mind, I know it will not be my last.
This is a mind blowing read that I was captivated with early on. This book is not only a suspenseful thriller but also super creepy. I loved every minute of it and I devoured this book in one sitting.
I will be recommending this book for a long time coming!
I was so excited to read this book and Carissa Lynch delivered a most amazing book She is truly a brilliant write with a way of pulling you in Twists and turns galore and wow what and ending Definitely a 5 star must read ❤❤🖤❤❤
What makes a perfect book to me? Well my perfect book is a book that shocks me to the very bottom of my soul. That’s what this book did to me. That ending was perfection in my eyes. I wouldn’t have guessed that in a million years. I had no clue that was where it was going to lead me. I want to shout to the moon and back on how good this book was.
This book was about a woman named Natalie who can not let go of the past. A murder occurred on her family’s property many years ago and now the perpetrator is being released. There is a catch though the killer is stating her innocence. How far will Natalie go to find out the truth? Is the killer really telling her the truth?
Ok, so if you are reading this far into my review you already know how much I loved this book. What wasn’t to love about this book is the real question. I loved everything about this book. The characters were well written, the plot was interesting, and that ending was awesome. There were characters in this book that you loved to hate when the truth finally came out. No one can be sweet and innocent all the time. The story line was good too. I always love a good murder mystery with a killer twist at the end. Oh that ending will stay with me for a very long time. I read many books so it’s hard to shock me but not this book. That ending was like a roller coaster ride I never wanted to end. There were so many twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. Well done Carissa Ann Lynch.
Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This author always comes through with amazing thrillers!
A murder many years ago. A woman living at the family farm where the body was found when she was a child. A "confessed" killer now released after serving her time and recanting her confession.
This was a page turner with so many twists and turns, it kept me on the edge of my seat up until the end!
Thanks to Netgalley & Harper Collins for an advance copy.
