Queens and kings not always are meant to be together.

Deon disappeared without a trace the summer before my 9th grade year. I was told he didn’t want to see me anymore, so I moved on; I moved up. My high school’s elite, The Royal Court, made me their queen and I didn’t look back.
But then Deon showed up again.

It wasn’t the tats, bad attitude, or even the rumors of prison that concerned me the most.
It was the fact that he still looked at me the way he did when we fell in love as kids.
I traded in my tomboy ways for a queen’s regality, but now my gritty soulmate is back. I’m stuck between the life I moved on from and the one I moved on to.

Is there a way I can bring the two, or will I push too hard and lose both sides forever?

Evil King is a full-length Dark High School Elite Romance and ends with a cliffhanger. Due to mature content, this series is recommended to readers aged eighteen and over. It also contains scenes that some might find distressing.

This one isn’t for me I can tell straight off that it’s going to have a lot of angst regarding both Deon and Nathan not a fan of love triangles either add in the fact that Cherri comes across as quite shallow initially and I’m so out.
I also didn’t like the concept of a royal court basically elite privileged rich kids playing games, what I read of this didn’t grab my attention though the writing itself did seem fine.
Unfortunately it’s going to be a no from me.

Are we reading the same book??? Heroine is cheating on both dudes. She can’t break up with her shit boyfriend because he’s “going through stuff”. One of them is an abusive rapist who may or may not be being raped himself. Am I supposed to pity him? He held the heroine by gunpoint and raped her. And she didn’t even go to the police. And the hero is his brother, but he forgives him for raping the love of his life? The fuck is this?

Sooo, if you like convoluted plot points where everyone forgives a manhandling woman, then later rapes her at gunpoint, by all means, read this.

Further, the chemistry between the MCs is non-existent, and there are sex scenes with both brothers.

Just awful.

I just couldn’t get into this one. There was nothing overly magnetic about any of the characters and I didn’t feel any chemistry at all. Not to mention one of my biggest pet peeves kept playing out for over half the book. I could never understand why Cherri wouldn’t just break up with Nathan! I mean seriously? He was a controlling d-dang who she couldn’t even stand to be around. And then her friend just kept telling her to stay with him and use him for his money and reputation?! Wow...It was just all so very shallow. I thought Cherri was supposed to be this beautiful upper crust female, so she has her own money and social standing, why TF does she need to stay with Nathan?! It made her come across and self-centered and annoying. I basically quit reading and started skimming when she started whining about Deon not wanting her bc she wouldn’t break up with her BF (duh!) and that she would just stay with Nathan since she had nothing better to do....WTH? Grow some balls and self respect and leave him anyway! She didn’t need his money or anything else. She was already beautiful and popular, so wtf? It just didn’t make sense and felt like a way to create unnecessary angst. Yes there were reasons for Nathan’s behavior at the end when things started getting put together but that still didn’t make up for Cherri’s ignorant personality the whole book.

Now to Deon... I felt no chemistry between him and Cherri at all and their whole dynamic just didn’t make sense to me. He was willing to sext her and be all in love with her, but prison boy had a problem having sex with her unless she broke up with her boyfriend? And threw a fit about it? I mean...you’re supposed to the the “bad boy,” just steal her TF away! Lol...but honestly I blame Cherri for this as well. She obviously didn’t like him enough to break up with Nathan, so there you go.

Either way I guess I’m just used to either a strong, badass female or a really good, sexy “bad boy” and this had neither. I won’t be reading the sequel.

Horible heroine

Just nope. I can’t enjoy books about people that I can’t at least like a little. Cherri is vain, shallow, spoiled, but at the same time has no self respect and is pretty much a whore. She prostitutes herself to a boyfriend that she doesn’t even like (or enjoy sex with, hence the whore comment because she isn’t even doing it because she enjoys it) for status and popularity. He cheats on her regularly and she still screws him without protection (ew). The most recent time she did break up with him but took him back as soon as he gave her a party, some flowers and a bracelet, and then she immediacy screwed him. For those of you who enjoy seeing the woman having the other relationship for once, don’t bother. The scenes are cringey. She is bored out of her mind, and states that sex isn’t about her pleasure. She isn’t being abused, intimidated or blackmailed etc she just really likes being a high school Stepford wife. She is not a victim in any way, she is just a crap character who is into her role as Queen B. She has no personality, and honestly is so shallow she doesn’t deserve a hero or an HEA. She moved on from the hero the first time right away, trading him and her memories of him for this life. She was obviously already that shallow even then even after he saved her. Just no.

This.....
I expected more of I think.

I've read other books of this author that I've loved, but this one.... It never really got going.
The characters never grabbed you or you really relate to.

The storyline was pretty much flatlined along the way. No real uptick that made me want to page turn.

The big reveal at the end that led to the cliffhanger.. I'm not sure I'm being completely blonde but I'm not really getting what it actually was!!! And it - and several of its consequences- lacked any punch to the story.

No motivation to read book 2.
Disappointed ☹️

Passion, hurt & plenty more within Evil King!

My review is an ARC rewiew. Rebel Hart captivates once again.

She was the queen being led by a king she believed she wanted. Everything changed when bad boy Deon reappears years later. The lust, love, heat and undenying passion in Deon and Cherri's reunion is exactly what a reader needs to feel. I felt every moment how Cherri feels and makes Cherri relateable. The Royal Court are definately odd together and there's definitely more to unfold here...

Sicily BOY OH BOY he is a brilliant character and his unique humour has left me giggling plenty throughout this book! Every person needs a Sicily in their life!!

Ali and Avery for me are idealic friendship goals to Cherri and there relationship towarfs Cherri is so real and relatable.

The ENDING MY MY MY WHY!!!
I have so much more to say and share but no spoilers from me here. Looking for a gripping read, dive into this book & you'll not be disappointed!❤

I hate leaving reviews that don't brag about a book. However, this is important information!
I started this book and was super excited. Knowing one that I follow the male model from the cover and this was in my book box. I started the book excited about the premise but by page 31 I was completely put off.

Stop describing black people with food. There are so many descriptor words but being reduced to "food" is not the move. WE HATE IT

Then describing a young woman "her dominant Asian features made her a knock- out"

Asia is a continent with many countries that do NOT share phenotypes. This was sexualizing a stereotype and SO sad! What are Asian features? Please authors do better!

Boy this book was not what I thought it was going to be at all.. my heart broke for Deon.. he’s gotten the shittest hand dealt to him by the people who were supposed to love him.. these people are crazy..
High school never seemed so surreal.. I spent the majority of this book trying to not get my hopes up about Deon and Cherri, that they would finally get to be together .. only to finally get what I wanted only to have it taken away again.. it seemed nothing could keep them apart only... I’m not going to tell you everything .. you need to read it for yourselves ..
I really loved it though.. I know you will too.. Rebel trying to give me squeals and chills .. I can’t wait for more ..

Warning Cliff Hanger for the 2nd book

No doubt's 5 stars. Lots of creepy things going on in this book. Lots. I mean from the jump you instantly know something ain't right. Something happend and she never meets up with her love. Four years later and BAM! He's back but not the same. He still wants her though. Leaveing the pending question of "then something must of happened for him to just not want to see her any longer or had disappeared more likely." Then it just gets better the more you read on all the way till the end where her lo e gets shot and doesn't return once again. The cliff hanger I wont spoil but know I'm deffently on ta book two with the hook line and sinker.

Skipped through most of it

This story is so repetitive. Will they, won’t they, but for the whole book. It got to the point that the reader didn’t even care. There was no character development and explanation of what people were thinking and the title didn’t make sense. Also, what woman wants to have sex right after she is raped? Either she wasn’t raped, or she wasn’t real. Then Deon lying to Cherri about his whereabouts again?? Sounds like he is willing to do anything to not be with her. Also, like he thinks she isn’t capable of making her own choices. This story was more annoying than anything else.

I need a book 2!!

After the first couple of pages I was hooked. I really hope there’s more to come.
Deon and Cherri are childhood friends who live in a poor neighbourhood and go on their first date. Deon vanishes. Four years later he reappears only Cherri is now rich, living in a big house with her family and one of the most popular girls at school and is dating the most popular guy at school. Neither of them can forget their feelings. Twists and turns that keep you guessing and wanting more.

I desperately wanted to love this but I couldn’t

I wanted to love this book so desperately but the plot just didn’t add up on a few occasions. Something was mentioned and then a few chapters later it was told differently. This happened for several things (Cherry brother remembering Deon, Deon remembering Avery, Deon knowing about Cherri’s move to the south) I just felt let down by the obviously and unnecessary errors by the authors. These shouldn’t have happened and should have been picked up by the author, editors, publishers ... anyone

Okay, so I'm not sure why this was considered DARK romance because it was insanely tame lol when I hear dark romance, I think I Dare You by Shantel Tessier or Ruby Vincent. This book was boring for me. I was hoping something would happen but it was just a main female character honestly being weak and hurting someone who really cared about her. It fell super flat for me, which seems to be a theme lately with these books that have a good summary or blurb & then its just boring. Won't be continuing this series.

Hmmmm... where do I begin...Cherri and Deon were perfect each other their reunion ended up being HOT!!! But Cherri relationship with Nathan I didn’t agree with .. seems she was stringing him along because there was nothing better to do..even if he was a jerk..I loved Sicily ... loved the sense of humor.. I think once I even snort laughed!!! And Ali and Avery were friends that give you the feels.. over all I liked this story... there really hasn’t been anything of rebel hart that I haven’t liked!!!

No.1 Fan

Rebel Hart has once again shown what a great author she is, I completed this book in 2 days, it's captivating from the start. I can't wait for the release of Evil Queen. 5 stars because this book doesn't miss a beat, it draws you in from the beginning. Rebel just knows how to hold her readers attention. Will recommend to all who love dark, captivating, bad boy, high school romance... Love, love, love it

Confused

Okay so I love the story line. It's a nice takeaway on the FMC being at the top of the food chain. However there are things I felt were confusing or maybe not right. *Spoilers* for example Cherri was to lenient on Nathan and forgave him too easily for what he did to her. I guess book 2 is from Nathans POV and I hope to see answers to more questions I have bc I feel Cherri and Deon's story needs more.

Meh...

I couldn’t really get into this one. I just can’t get into the back and forth when the circumstances are irritating. I mean, she just couldn’t break up with Nathan? Really? It didn’t make sense, and got super frustrating. It made me not like the FMC...she was being ridiculous. It just made the rest of the story seem kinda far fetched. I’ve read other books by Rebel and liked them, just not this one. 😔

Great story

I love how its almost a reverse of the typical bullying high school thing. Instead of the girl getting bullied it's the guy (sorta).
My only issue with this book is the tense of the verbs. Everything is written past tense. I think (my opinion here!) It would read so much more easily in present tense.
The characters are great, that cliffhanger was uncool, but I'm excited for book 2. Off to read Evil Queen!

I love this author and her writing style.
Every book rebel writes is better than the last and Evil King was no different. Rebel knocked this book right out the park.
I love high school romance but this was a lot more than your typical high school romance. This was dark and gritty. And rebel didn't disappoint.
Cherri and Deon were in love and then he disappeared. Years later he's back and well Ill leave that up to, to find out how it all plays out.
I highly recommend.

Action Packed and Thrilling!

An awesome story that keeps you guessing. This story has mystery and lots of surprises, hidden motives and chilling characters.
Deon and Cherri are great! I cannot wait to see what happens next! Good romantic, sexy scenes, but need more and some sexual tension too.
A story that has me wanting more ... Super Good!

Good start

Pretty good storyline but just a little slow for myself. It picked up for myself around the 70% range of the book.
Kind of a cliffy but being a trilogy that's usually the case. It's just a good thing that three books are available.
Do I recommend? Yes....
