Jon D. Zimmer takes the opportunity to fuel his tale and promote his viewpoints on social injustice with current events through his main character, Joe. Joe is given “do-overs” in life, choices in his afterlife, to come back, armed with the ability to correct his narrow visions of the world around him by returning over and over in different high-profile, lives of privilege. His “new truths” became his quests to rectify, yet, he would have one believe that wealth and power is bad. Is money the root of all evil?

I couldn’t help but wonder if this was a vehicle for the author’s own atonement for his successes in life as Joe undergoes a transformation with each new life into a better person. We should all be so lucky to have the do-overs this character had. The world would definitely be a better place and polarized opinions may actually be replaced with a genuine sense of community.

Definitely an interesting read, filled with thoughtful persuasions and is well-written, presented with a very strong sense of fantasy.
I received a complimentary copy from Jon D. Zimmer! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Portals is a gripping Science Fiction novel with a very clever and intricately woven storyline. I liked how the author employed Science fiction as a medium to talk about various injustices faced by the people in the society.

This was a book which was really engrossing. The language was vivid and fluid. The book had its fair share of plot twists which kept it juicy throughout. The mangled web of deceit, conspiracies and insightful learnings is sure to keep the readers bouncing on the edge of their seats.

The story line and the plot was amazing! This book takes the reader on one hell of a ride and is a beautifully crafted tale of suspense, thrill and of course, science jargon. The writing style of the author is compelling yet easy to comprehend. The sentence formation is flawless and the words of the author brought the story to life.

The story was full of twists and turns and the pace was really fast. Whilst reading the book, more than once, I found myself comparing this book to the books by James Dasher and Veronica Roth. It was this good! The storyline kept the book interesting and the autor painted a very vivid picture of his words. There wasn’t a single moment where the book lost its thrill.

The characters were amazingly penned and seemed real. I liked the play of language and the dialogues were impactful and had that punch to it. The entire plot is cleverly woven and the climax of the story was beyond words.

I would recommend this book to all the Sci-fi buffs because if you haven’t read this, you are missing out on a lot.

Portals is a science fiction story about Joe, a football player from a wealthy family and providing him full support. An accident while playing causes him to be rushed to the hospital. As he falls in and out of unconsciousness, he sees some portals he chooses to enter.

I enjoyed how his focus was always to aim and achieve his goals. His life was not always about football but what mattered was that his determination was inspiring. Joe enjoyed politics, science and did not shy away from pursuing his dreams.
The story embodied essential subject matters such as racism and its political standing, social injustice, climate change, and equal opportunities. I particularly enjoyed how education was portrayed as a means to introduce a society where diversity was more acceptable and a means to destroy predigests. I also enjoyed its originality.

The book made me wonder how life would be if I had the chance to be given do-overs? What would I choose to do? What would I change?

I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read science fiction material.
