Finished reading Eric S. Brown's Amazon: The Lost City. Definitely, it had a high mortality rate. Between the three-eyed snake attacking the team, and the half ape-half man, they were in a constant battle for their lives. This book is a fast read and filled with plenty of hand-to-hand fighting for the action-junkies. I'm not sure why there were numbers following their boat's name. That was a bit confusing. I would have liked more storyline about the people to connect with them, but if you are looking for a quick read, and loads of entertainment, give this a try. Four stars
Seriously people! Get beta readers. So many of the missing words and sentences that make no sense along with the 12009..... number that continually appears through the book for no reason. And the ending SUCKED! It was like the author got tired of the story and did a cop out of a few paragraphs as a sudden ending. Sadly I do Not recommend this book to others unless it get a massive edit and rewrite!
To be honest this book reminds me of Stephen King's IT. It had great set up, a great set of action sequences, and a good set of characters. It could have been so much more... But at the end... Aliens...
Ok, it wasn't exactly aliens, something in step with the story's theme, but so foolish and poorly executed that you felt as if the author had the main character stumble into the lost city and didn't know what to do after that....
I don't experiment with authors that easily but there is something about the Amazon that peaks the curiosity and with three-eyed anacondas attacking the team on water and like dolphins and with the seemingly human ape mutants in the jungle, the book struck the right chord. Then finis The story was what is written in the book cover. The book became bizarre. The initial set-up had a lot of potential and it was almost as if there was a hurry to complete the book before going home.
A quick read with poorly fleshed out characters, little to no description and clunky dialogue. It ended on a cliffhanger but I won’t be getting the next. I didn’t care about any characters. It had potential to be a scary, interesting read but ended up being boring. Not even the monsters were cool in this one.
