Sonya Michaelson has never had good luck with romance, especially with her taste for the bad boy. So, when an alpha biker with a cocky attitude walks into her bar, she falls so fast and hard her impact could level a small city.
Whether the connection shifts into love or remains lust doesn’t matter. She’s already collateral damage.
Raul Anderson’s mission is supposed to be find the girl, convince her to turn werewolf, bring her to Hemlock Hollow, and in doing so, save his sister’s life. It should be an easy task. But when has fate ever made his life easy?
He expected a spoiled, pampered half-Swedish, half-Cherokee princess, one who would jump at the chance of quintupling her lifespan by becoming a werewolf.
But when he sees the black-haired beauty holding her own behind the bar and working her butt off to pay for med school, it throws a wrench into his best-laid plans. And hooks him deep in the heart.
Will love close the divide between them or damn them before it has a chance to thrive?
A novella beginning the Children of Fenrir full-length novels. Read how it all starts!
If you like Patricia Briggs, Christine Feehan, Kait Ballenger, or Norse mythology, you’ll love this Viking inspired paranormal romance!
Fantasy & scifi in all their wonderful subgenres are my jam. Doesn't matter to me if it's indie or traditionally published, I read it all as long as it fits in those genres and piques my interest.
I'm also an award winning author~and aspiring to someday be a bestselling one. Life goals!~of paranormal, fantasy, steampunk, historical fantasy, and YA urban fantasy. When I'm not reading, editing, writing, or surfing my social networking sites, I can be found on the slopes, the hiking trails, or paddleboarding. As a native Oregonian, I enjoy the outdoors almost as much as the worlds I read about and create on the pages. Shifter romance readers have a new heroine to root for, and a delicious assortment of werewolves that trace their blood back to Fenrir, the great wolf offspring of Loki.
Clawed & Cornered is a fantastic paranormal romance with lighting-fast pacing and wonderful leads who share both sizzling chemistry and a deeper, meaningful connection that makes their developing relationship a joy to read. The world and mythology are unique, delivering juicy conflict and plenty of shifter angst with a promise of more to come in the series. As the tension builds, so does the bond between Raul and Sonja, culminating in a knockout twist at the climax that left me eager to read the next book. This new series is one to watch!
Nice, nice, nice. I like books with werewolves and romance and some new history. This is about Sonya who works in a bar and wants to study psychology. One night Raul walks in the bar. Like she says, she has a monumental taste for bad men. She starts dating him, which is fun because he's a outdoor type like her. One thing she doesn't know: he is a werewolf. She's in for a surprise, which I'm not going to tell here. Read it yourself. It's short, only 85 pages, and has a big cliffhanger. Lucky for me, I have part 2 also. This one is nice to read and makes curious about the next books.
Clawed & Cornered: A Viking Werewolf Paranormal Romance is the first book in the Children of Fenrir series by Heather McCorkle.
Sonja is working at a bar to earn money so she can continue med school. Raul comes into the bar and catches her interest.
There isn’t a lot of time setting up the series, it jumps right in and you learn about Sonja and Raul as the story goes on. It’s a novella so it is fast paced. It does leave you hanging at the end. I look forward to reading the next book to see what happens.
I received this book as a gift and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I thought I had gotten a book I could finish. Not a prequel. The writing seemed to be pretty good. But, with the abrupt ending of this phase of the story I would like to say something. This is not the way to make me a fan of your writing. As a matter of fact I despise it. What happens at the end of book 2? Whoops! Sorry folks go to book 3 and then so on and so forth. Perhaps after book 9 or 10 we get “answers”. Not my type of book. I’ll read serials where each book has a conclusion of its own. Not this prattle trap!!!
A note to the unwary: this book ends at a steep and abrupt cliff. It’s a good introduction to the series, but it does leave a lot of unanswered questions. I like Raul, but I don’t feel like we got to know very much about him. Hopefully that’s coming as we get deeper into the series. And even Sonja’s still a bit of an enigma by the time we reach the end. Either way, I am very intrigued by these characters, and I want to know what’s really going on around them.
I felt that this first story in the series was just enough to have me reeeeealy wanting more. I would have loved to had a lot more involved in this one, however the shortness did not detract from the enjoyment I had in reading this. I loved it, and it certainly made me rush out and grab book two!
Clawed & Cornered is a delicious mix of werewolves, romance, and Norse mythology. A prequel novella for the Children of Fenrir series, it’s piqued my interest into jumping into the series.
Sonja is a strong FMC with a haunted past and is working toward a better future. She shares great chemistry with Raul, a mysterious man who walked into her bar one night.
I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and look forward to continuing with the series. Note that there is an abrupt cliffhanger. If you’re into paranormal fantasy reads with shifters, mythology, and some romance, this fast-paced story might be a great choice for you!
This is my first book by Heather McCorkle, and while I didn't love everything about it, I'm glad I found another fantasy author to follow.
Clawed & Cornered is the beginning of a series, and though it has a lot in common with other series (werewolves, strong female lead, hot guys, subterfuge) there are some pleasant differences. First, I like the connection to Fenrir and the Norse gods. It made a really nice change. I also like that the book focused on werewolves...it didn't exclude other possibilities, but it focused in on one species(?) which gave it time do delve into some of the history and do some really good world building.
The plot was just ok for me. This book was sort of a novella, and knowing where it was going kind of ruined the chemistry for me. I understand the time crunch in the story and not giving too much away, especially in the first book, but for me, it meant that I didn't really connect with the story.
I have read the second book, and I will add to this review that I think in order to do the series justice, you should at least read the next part, Bitten & Beholden. For me, it gave me a better understanding of where the plot was going and a chance to see more of the character development.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Clawed & Cornered is suspenseful, mysterious, and just the right amount of romantic. This book was a quick read, but I really enjoyed it. I loved the inclusion of having a character that was part indigenous and was also familiar with a less popular religion. The characters were well rounded and I loved watching the way they interacted with each other. I only have two grievances: 1. both Sonya and Raul must be only trying to date mean people because they are both convinced that traits that make them more interesting will drive away other people, and 2. I wish it were longer. I will definitely be reading the new book in the series soon.
