Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.

All I need from you is an email address to send them to. Here's the link you need - https://mailchi.mp/fd47a6eb4ae5/patri...

When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.

At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.

Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.

We're back on the cruise ship Aurelia with Patricia Fisher and her friends for another gripping journey.

Back with her beau Captain Alistair Huntley. Patricia has come aboard the ship in order to avoid the Godmother, who is a criminal of the worst kind, and an extremely clever enemy.

As the head the Alliance of Families, a collective of criminal gangs whose influence is worldwide, she is a very dangerous enemy indeed. She is posing as a passenger called Verity Tuppence, who is supposedly enjoying a special holiday with her husband and their dachshund.

Patricia has inconvenienced the Godmother's criminal operations on a number of occasions and has not only cost her a great deal of money, but has made her look a fool to the other criminal bosses, into the bargain. Thus making her 'lose face' with them. Therefore, the Godmother has decided to eliminate Patricia herself, and has used the disguise of a wife on holiday with her husband as a ploy to get close to Patricia.

Verity has managed to get close to Patricia and is now pretending to be Patricia's new friend. Having met on the ship when it stopped to pick up passengers in Canada; she has used her little dachshund as an icebreaker with Patricia; that is until Patricia became suspicious of something about Verity's dog, and did some background checks, which led her to discover the truth about Verity.

The story which unfolds is splendid. Verity has so much to lose and she cannot allow Patricia to live to leave the ship at the end of the voyage.

I really enjoyed Verity. As bad guys go, she, being female, grabbed my attention when her name popped up some time ago in a previous book. She is deliciously devious and has a flaire for the dramatic. Choosing to come after Patricia in a the confined space of the area of the Aurelia, makes the tension ratchett up by a few degrees. As a woman who is used to sending others to eliminate people who annoy or otherwise displease her, makes the fact that she is actually taking care of Patricia herself all the more juicy. Her husband is a dry counterpart to her vibrancy..rarely speaking and then usually answering in a grunt. I liked his dry demeanor, it was perfection.

The story itself is filled with pockets of suspense, mixed in with outbreaks of violence, and intermingled with sudden burst of confusion and misdirection . All in all a blooming good yarn. I'm happy to have read it. It was very entertaining

DID NOT FINISH.

After seeing so many five star reviews, I was excited to begin this audiobook, The Godmother, by Sreve Higgs, but not only did I not enjoy it, I couldn't finish - something almost as rare for me as winning the lottery - giving up about two hours into the book. Perhaps I was unable to become invested in the story because this is book eight of a series of which I had no previous experience, and the mere concept at this point of the dastardly leader of a World wide evil crime syndicate playing cat and mouse with the heroine of the story seemed foolish in the extreme. Probably meant to be humerous: a verbal cartoon.
But overshadowing the text was the narration, and it was This that I was unable to pass. Don't get me wrong: the narrator had a pleasant timbre to her natural speaking voice, I think, and she was most inventive with her characters' diverse speech. But the book is written in the first person, told from the perspective of Mrs Fisher, who 'lives in England', one time cleaner and now the person being threatened by Verity, the criminal mastermind, and she has been given speech so abominable that I have heard better computer readings. In an attempt to reproduce what I assume to be an upper class cut glass English accent assumed by a one-time lower working class woman, most of the words are spoken individually ('as-the-table-seated-twelve') instead of blending seamlessly into an acceptable sentence, some with strange pronunciations (Glasgow rhyming with cow) and odd emphasis given to the end of some words to elongate and distort them (twelve-er). Add in the perfectly acceptable text speech format ('inviting me to.') which, with the type of accent the narrator was trying to achieve, must instead have been more properly rendered (inviting me to do so.) I found myself unable to move beyond this comedic performance, and it was This which finally forced me to give up the book. My brain could survive the assault no longer.

I must, however, send my thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. I have not given a rating since I didn't finish. Perhaps I will one day try the kindle version to find out what I have missed.

This is my first review of this cozy mysteries series so far, so I just wanted to say I am enjoying this series immensely! This was book 8 of the second set of 10 books in the series with Patricia Fisher, & I think, the best one so far! The first of these series started out with Patricia, an everyday normal housewife, that worked as a house cleaner & doing just your normal everyday things without much excitement - until she caught her husband in an affair with her best friend & resulting in a whole chain of events about to change her life. Distraught & wanting to flee, she drew her money out & headed to take a short cruise like she had always longed for but her husband always putting a kabosh to. Finding there was only one last room- the biggest luxury suite on the ship—for a 3 month cruise in this luxury ship & so anxious to get away from it all she plunked all her money down. Thus starting the following adventures with murder, mayhem & excitement seeming to follow her everywhere. Acquiring some new best friends—Jermaine, her butler & Barbie, a fitness instructor—in the deal, they manage to get caught up in some crazy situations, & lots of them & sometimes bumbling their way through. But when she gets that ‘itch in her skull’ that tells her things aren’t quite right, she manages to work a few things out toward solving them. Written with lots of action & humor & some love interest thrown in. Each book in this series is very enjoyable & hard to put down. There’s a third set after this one & which I am very much looking forward to the rest of these Patricia Fisher mysteries! I hope the author keeps adding to them!

Mrs Fisher and her friends are still on the Aurelia, and she now knows who the crime boss, The Godmother, really is. While Patricia is gathering everyone she can to help, the Godmother also seems to have brought on several assassins to get the woman who dared to cause trouble to her crime syndicate.

Of course, no Patricia Fisher story would be complete without several bombings, shootings, and deceptions. Sometimes it is hard to know who the bad guys really are (although I did :))

There is a side story: people are being robbed after attending a magic show. The victims appear dazed and have no memory of the crime taking place. Patricia suspects the perpetrators might not have been the fake hypnotist and his scantily clad assistant.

I love these madcap books (They should be started from the beginning of the series to fully appreciate the story line) and look forward to the next one, as this one give us a glimpse of the future.

What can I say?

I've run out of words! Every review is beginning to sound the same! It's good! It's Great! I love it! However, I somehow missed this episode of Patricia's adventures & had to backtrack, but that's perfectly OK, since the books are stand alone's as well as a series. So, now I'm caught up, wondering what's next! I Iove Patricia & her crew! I love that the stories are good & that they're fun & funny! Sometimes a bit silly, but that only adds to the fun. I appreciate how the stories, while a bit more violent than I'd like, are not gory & explicit, not sexually explicit either. Just clean, cozy mysteries. This was, I believe, the 1st of Steve Higgs books in which I've ever seen an honest to goodness bad word! I was surprised, I must say, but 1 word out of 20-some books? Not too bad! So now...Onward bound to see what messes Patricia & gang get into next!

Read books in order.

This was a wild ride, Patrical was in the position of who not to trust. The Godmother has basically put a "Hit" out for her. Including her friends that she holds dear, so she goes on a Cruise ship. Thinking this could limited the "Hit-man/women", from hurting her friends. Into the fire from the frying pan, she discovers who the Godmother is-she thinks- trouble with that? Evidence how do you find evidence, you have do......sorry no spoilers, this is a fast action, twisted coruption of mulitabe countries, police, goverments, alot of things that have been going on for decades.

Fantastic series

I started reading all about Patricia and some of the things she gets into. We are about the same age and I can see these crazy ideas you come up with for her happening to me. I sit and laugh so hard. I do sometimes have to figure out some of the English words but they are in such context that you can. I read a book a day and sometimes more because when they start you are pulled in. Wonderful reading and action packed and always hilarious. Keep writing because you are one of the best and I read everyday, and there are some greats I have read but Patricia’s series is absolutely fantastic.

Must read series

I waited until I had finished the series to write a review. Essentially I binge read. Throughout it all I laughed I became part of the story And waited to see how it all Played out. I would not have been able to do that if the writing style had not been fast paced, plot lines not clever and interesting, characters not relatable, and a story not worth telling. Patricia Fisher is my hero and we must have heroes to have hope. I had a great time!! KLH
.

excellent
,the character development the real the plot lines And all the added details

Patricia Fisher is back on the cruise ship. A mystery woman called the Godmother has been trying to kill Patricia. Is the Godmother going to succeed in killing Patricia or does Patricia use her wits (along with help from her friends) and turn the tables on the Godmother? Read this book and find out. Even though this book is enjoyable as a standalone, reading the series provides you with a better understanding of Patricia's relationships with the other characters in the book.

I volunteered an honest review in exchange for an ARC copy of this book.

Another amazing adventure for Patricia which brings the Godmother saga to a thrilling end. Knowing who the villain is in this book made the story a little different. It is not a question of “who” but how to bring the character down. Who can Patricia trust? Seems like the Godmother has spies everywhere on the ship and even in her own circle of friends. It was well done and, as always, a page turner. A fitting finale. No spoilers here so you must read it to see how Patricia and her friends end up.

Another really thrilling book with Patricia Fischer and the Godmother dueling each other and making elaborate games to deceive each other and reach an ending for this goose chase. There´s a lot of action, a lot of tears, many unexpected surprises (not all of them good) and, as always, a lot of gin tonics and tea!
Very entertaining reading with Patricia finally reaching an ending with her fight to bring the Godmother down and to accepting to being part of her lover´s life.
As a member of the author´s ARC team I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Another Great Book

Steve Higgs is definitely a prolific writer! I am enjoying the Patricia Fisher novels immensely and read this one in a single sitting. I am holding Mr. Higgs responsible for the bags under my eyes from lack of sleep and the sink full of dirty dishes waiting for me among other things. I hope that Patricia resolves her divorce in the next book and sticks it to her greedy unfaithful soon to be ex-husband.

Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and this is my honest review.

Holy crap. This cruise ship is cursed. Maybe the crew should be paid better to avoid all the bribery. The Godmother is seriously scary. I was disappointed that Mavis didn't help with the dark web research since she mentioned it in the previous book. Barbie may be a super gym instructor but she is just as efficient in web researching.
I do hope there are not as many deaths and robberies on my next cruise.

Everything!

By the time you near the end of this book, you will understand why I titled this review Everything. Steve Higgs layers on the drama, the action and the thrills relentlessly. But this is a cosy mystery, so you can also expect a little romance, some humour and poignant scene or two. Not only that, but it is the culmination of an ongoing mystery/drama that reaches it satisfying conclusion here

Originally I was only going to give this book 4 stars because it took me a LONG time to get into the story. However, once the plot really got going, there was plenty of action and suspense. Good characters in a really enjoyable series.

I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review.

A cruise to end all cruises when Patricia has to work overtime to keep her friends safe from the vengeful Godmother. Who will live and who will die? This is a must read filled with danger, excitement and devious characters. And, of course, the fabulous characters we have grown to know and love. Steve Higgs at his best. Very Highly Recommended.

So what is Patrick's maiden name?

This book like all of Mr. Higgs books was fantastic. It had mystery, laughter ,tears, anger, and relief all wrapped in a big, sparkly package. Just when you thought the bad guys were winning, help from the many friends Patricia has made comes through in a BANG. I kept looking for Patrick's maiden name though. Lol

Fabulous! I couldn’t wait for this book to come out and it didn’t disappoint at all. I loved it! I especially like the fact that Patricia‘s journeys are going to continue and will wait with bated breath for my favourite characters to hit the page again. Not a secret because the next book in the series will be ready in January 2021.

Guaranteed fun and adventure

This is part of a series but can also be read as a standalone. Well written, very entertaining. Never a dull moment in books by Steve Higgs. Comparable to the Stephanie Plum numbers series by Janet Evanovich, just a slightly older main character. So fun.

Patricia is still on board the cruise ship and investigating the Godmother as quietly as possible. She manages to get herself into tight places, hilarious hijinks and some frightening situations. Each book of this series has gotten better than the last and the same goes for The Godmother. Kudos to the author, it's getting five stars from me.

I have read all the Patricia Fisher books so far. They are completely mad with murder and mayhem seemingly everywhere but great fun. My only problem with these books is that once I start reading one of them I can’t stop until I’ve finished meaning I’m shattered as I stay up half the night to finish the book.

Godmother vs Fisher

Once again I found myself enthralled in this book of the Patricia Fisher Adventures. It amazes me the amount of trouble Ms Fisher can get into in such short time spans. Her plans are something to marvel at. However, she is the best detective I’ve ever heard of!! I LOVE reading her about her many adventures

Chaos on overload!
The Godmother in this story is not the sweet, grant your wishes kind of gal...oh no. She's the kind that makes The Godfather look like her twin or her spouse. The chaos and bodies stack up to a crescendo ending. Will Patricia meet her end this time? Will she lose any dear friends? Read along and find out! Breathtaking ride from the very beginning!
