Jenn Pierce takes two people nearly broken by their pasts, mixes in life and death danger, and an adorable six-year-old boy and gives her readers a high-octane story filled with plenty of ongoing action.
Reid Lucas is haunted by his past actions (no spoilers) and refuses to believe he’s worthy of God’s love, or anyone else’s love. Quinn Matthews is the single mother of a six-year-old boy whose quiet life as a diner waitress is thrown into chaos when strangers come after them to kidnap her son. She’s strong in her faith but hasn’t gotten over her betrayal by her son’s father.
I liked how the author put in realistic action with consequences, even a few trips to the hospital when Reid and Quinn were both injured. And she deftly wove the faith arc into the story with Quinn showing Reid how he could forgive himself and let God into his life in a way that wasn’t preachy or heavy-handed. The only thing I was hoping to see was for Quinn forgive Joe, her son’s father. He died trying to save them, but Quinn didn’t seem to process that fact quite enough. However, the author kept all of the characters moving at a high pace throughout the story, which is what you want in this type of book.
If you love romantic suspense with an edge of danger, realism, and a strong faith element, then you’ll love DEADLY CONNECTION.
I received an Advanced Review Copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to give a positive review. This is my honest opinion.
