Rate this book

-DR.

For some time now most of the theological books I’ve been reading have been reiterations of information that I’m somewhat familiar with, which is a good thing. But, this book was a bit different. Reading this book, I felt like I was really learning new material. Or at least things I haven't quite put into motion in my own life. This is the kind of book I wish every Believer would read. Especially those who adhere to the doctrines of grace. Highly recommend.

A must read

A great work by the authors and editor to produce a book which teaches and emulates the historical and orthodox legacy of the church. This volume has provided me with assurance and clarity on previous convictions that were unsure. This is a helpful work for anyone who wants to understand the Scriptures more and see how they should reflect in belief and practice

Challies' 2016 Reading Challenge #1 - a book about Christian living

A few quotes I liked:
~ "To require the church to exercise discipline against doctrinal error without a published confession of faith is to require it to make bricks without straw."
~ "A church without a confession of faith has the theological and ecclesiastical equivalent of AIDS, with no immunity against the infectious winds of false doctrine."
~ "As Spurgeon said, speaking of the importance of confessions, 'Weapons which are offensive to our enemies should never be allowed to rust.' ”
~ "Both love and law are necessary for the Christian. Obedience to law is useless without love. Expressing our love is impossible without law."
~ "One of the effects of God working grace in a soul is renovating His image in us, being re-created in righteousness and holiness of the truth (Eph. 4:24; Col. 3:10) and having the law re-written on our hearts..."

There's more to being "Reformed" than just liking tulips

A great collection of essays relating to application of reformed theology throughout the life of the Christian and the organization of Christ's church.
