The Leader has many mistakes or bad editing. I found the whole story is cringe worthy.
The story is plain. Nothing dark. Instead it is more like introduction to dark romance. The wording is mostly telling and not showing.

Miss Bell needs to have more word variant instead of repeating words through out the entire book. The trope is suppose to be enemy to lover romance. I can not feel the hate vibe. I can not even feel the chemistry.

It's always a surprise to read a debut book by an indie author and have it be really good. Gio agreed to marry one of three granddaughters for a business deal. There was definitely insta-lust going on with him and Jazzy, but it took a while for them to trust each other. Although they had issues it never truly felt like they were at odds with each other. Gio was demanding and controlling but not to the degree that he was an asshole. He definitely wasn't a nice guy though. His strong protective instincts made him easy to like. Jazzy didn't let him control her life. She remained independent throughout their relationship. I really liked the two of them together. I wish the mafia/crime life aspect had played a larger role. This focused way more on the romance. The side characters didn't have big roles, but I'm definitely interested in reading their stories in the rest of the series.

Thanks to netgalley for giving me this in exchange for an honest review!

I immediately fell in love with Gio & Jazzy. Their passion screams off the pages and makes page-turner impossible to put down. Giovanni Detta is the head of his family, he is also a powerful and dominating man that always gets what he wants. Jocelyn Rossi is a smart independent woman that want away from the chains of her loving grandfather. She is sassy and doesn't hold her tongue. Their chemistry is A+. I loved how this story evolved and finally came together in the end.

The Leader was impeccably written and I would never have guessed this was a debut novel. The flow was perfect and match the storyline. I am hooked on this new series and can't wait to read the next installment. This does not end on a cliffhanger, it has a beautiful and sweet ending, but I do have some question about the secondary characters.

Damn, Gio, I'm speechless. He gives the ultimate 'touch her and you'll die' vibe.
This was a quick, yet addicting story about Jazzy and Gio who get married because of a deal. The hate to lover story was really sweet and I couldn't put this one down. However, it isn't that special so it won't get those 5 stars.

"There's a fire burning in you, jaz. Please never allow anyone to extinguish that."

What a great and exciting book debut by Shanna Bell!! I love reading a good mafia romance and I was not disappointed with The Leader. It's suspenseful, fast-paced, sexy and angsty. I finished it within a matter of hours and I couldn't put it down!

What started as a marriage of obligation and duty between Gio and Jazzy turned into a relationship of love, trust, strength and loyalty. Gio and Jazzy's connection and chemistry is off the charts. The banter, humor and love/hate relationship is engaging and made for a great story line. The Leader is well written with all around good characters.

I highly recommend reading The Leader, I'm glad I took a chance on Shanna Bell and I'm looking forward to reading The Enforcer.

[ I chose a random book from NetGalley's romance section, in hopes of finding a really cheesy, cringy book that will be bad and entertain me, and boy did I get that. So thank you to NetGalley for letting me have a review copy! ]

So, I wanted to completely out of my comfort zone. So I chose romance, and I went with an arranged marriage book because I cannot stand that trope, it's absolutely boring in my eyes. It's the same thing: "I hate you." One chapter later. "I love you." And this book was pretty much the same, just throw in a lot of possessive abuse and sex scenes and you have yourself this book.

So, I wasn't going into this book blind when it came to the sex scenes, NetGalley did say mature content, which made me aware that this included adult content, (which is another thing that's out of my comfort zone, I hate reading about it. It just makes me uncomfortable,) however, this book was GRAPHIC. If you're into sex scenes then let me recommend this book to you because this author holds back nothing. She spares no details, and I wanted to cry.

But the worst thing about this book wasn't the sex scenes, I, a nineteen-year-old, can handle those. What I couldn't handle, was the author writing about an abusive relationship and claiming it's okay for a husband to be possessive and treat their wife like their objects. This book deals with two abusive relationships: Jazza's aka the main characters, and her cousin/sister (I'm not sure how they're related) but her relative was in an abusive relationship which included, but wasn't limited to, physical assault. However, something, this author may not be aware of, that isn't the only form of abuse. Gio refers to his wife as property and constantly mentions how he "owns" her. And at one point the author actually writes "You will let me take you however I want, Bella. And not only in the bedroom. It could be anywhere, at any time, in any position I like." Like she has no choice in the matter, and trust me that's not the worst of it. He then makes her admit she belongs to him, and then says "Never forget or deny that." and it's just so creepy and gross. Not letting your wife out of her house is abusive. Demanding sex is abusive (and rape). And I feel like the author thinks it's not just because she's not getting hit. But it shows a bad example. "Oh, well I'm not getting abused. Sure I'm not allowed to leave the house on my own, but it's because he loves me. It's because he's a dom and I'm a sub." In the bedroom maybe, but displaying this message can mess with people's heads. Maybe I'm just reading to much into it.

In my eyes, there was just so many problems with the whole book. The characters seemed to fuck non stop. Her abused sister (or cousin I believe) fainted and then she found said woman's husband cheating, and then she went and had sex. It was all insane. I couldn't keep track of it all. Besides the constant fucking, and the abusiveness, the book was filled with cringy moments.

She literally ran from America to Europe because she didn't want to be picked by Gio during the arranged marriage, but when she saw her cousin dressing up to impress, she made a snide comment? What's wrong with her dressing in designer clothing? Plus, there was a whole secret of "What's Jazzy's past?" When it's revealed it's absolutely stupid. Yeah, I understand why you might want to keep that private, but at the same time, I feel like it was a pretty shit secret to base the whole book around.

I literally could rant about this book for months, but I'm not going to otherwise my fingers will bleed. It was a strange, and regretful read that I honestly do not wish to repeat.

Good read

I liked the read and the plot pulled you in. The story got lost at times because it got bogged down in the sex between Gio and Jazzy. Hey I am all up for hot sexy scenes, but theses got to be too many and really did nothing for the story. I ending up skipping some.

The characters were interesting and had lots of chemistry. The supporting characters were great too and they deserve a story too.

Will read the next.

I love finding new authors who know how to write! This is a great book with an alpha bad boy that takes protecting his lady love very seriously, a revenge plot and lots of surprises. Even though the hero can be demanding I love that he accepts his lady love for who she is and he lets her do her own thing whether he wants her to or not. I really like this fiery couple who unexpectedly find love with each other.

First I want to say that I'm not the biggest fan of mafia romance novels. They have way too much violence for my taste and the idea of a hero killing for the purpose of protecting an illegal and drug business does not sit well with me. But this was surprisingly pretty clean. Gio is loosely associated with sketchy mob characters but he's out to get revenge on the man who gave the order to have his parent's killed.
I liked Jazzys character from the beginning. Tough, smart and resourceful. She runs away when she meets the man her grandfather wants her to marry. She wants to build a future for herself and those who are less fortunate. I loved the intense banter between Gio and Jazzy. Her fierce personality and submissive sexual style draws him. Although Gio is too possessive and controlling, he goes above and beyond to make sure she's happy and safe.

The only thing that would have made this a 5 star for me is that I felt once Jazzy is married to Gio she's not as fiercely protective of her independence. She barely stands up to him when locks her up in the house when she refuses to give up who hurt her in the past. I wanted to see more fire between them. She surrenders too easily.
Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Tangled Mafia families

Thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series which has become a ' must read' for me.
There's a plenty of scope for future stories involving the lovely Getta brother's.
Gio is everything a girl could want. Alpha, handsome, ruthless & rich lol. And Dominant.
Well written & involving. You do want to see how things turn out.
Love me some alpha brothers

THE LEADER: a Mafia Romance (Bad Romance Book 1)
This book is the first one that I have read by this author and therefore I went without reading to reading. I did not know how her writing style is or how her plots are shaped. What I can say right at the beginning is that the book made me catch my breath more than once, made me smile and kept hoping and frightening me. The storyline may not be the newest one, reminiscent of other books, however, as there were always twists and turns in the story, the mafia was involved in both branches of the family, and the author managed to make the Stoy interesting and exciting, so that If you did not want to put the book down, make this book something special.
Gio is nothing but a damned bastard, but he has a good heart. That's how we, as readers, learned about him from other characters in the book, should not be overly influencing us as readers, and we should be open to creating our own image of this man. His loyalty to the family is limitless, and no matter what we readers may believe in our journey through this story, whatever that guy did, he had his damned reasons for doing so. He is not one who acts out of the belly. I loved his character, that he did what he had to do, was never afraid to be true to himself and his open honesty towards Jazzy.
In Jazzy, we find a strong personality that is persistent and does not easily let go of anything she wants. Her way of provoking Gio to the brim had a lot to her own. You can only describe your character as follows: loyal, understanding, smart and also sexy and you too are going above and beyond her family ties.
The author researched the novel very well and took the time to write a good book. She has given the book a good structure and storylines and created a great and romantic love story, which was also lacking in tension. The development that the characters go through is believable and authentic. The tingling scenes had exactly the elements that I liked very much.
All in all a very good mafia romance that I can really recommend for any of the books of this genre and theme likes. Fortunately, the end of the book does not have a cliffhanger but hopes to get the next part in the hands as soon as possible to continue reading.
I give the book a very good 4/5 star and thank Netgalley and Kobo Writing Life for the review copy.

The Leader is the first in the Bad Romance series by Shanna Bell. The Leader has been on my to-read list for a while. After finishing this book though, I totally regret it taking me so long to read this! Bad Romance instantly sucked me in. I wasn’t sure when to expect when I started this book. This book is a mafia/mob type book which is something I usually don’t read. When I first read the synopsis on Voracious Reader Only I was a little hesitant. I don’t enjoy the level of violence that some books have in this type of book. I have come across a few books in this category that I have really enjoyed reading and ending up really loving. I am happy to say that this one falls into that category!

There was so much that I loved about this book! The two main characters I absolutely loved. Jazzy has been through so much, but she is such a strong, stubborn and sweet character. Gio at the start of the book was a jerk. I didn’t think that I would end up liking him so much. I also enjoyed reading about the secondary characters. I am excited that a couple of the secondary characters are getting their own books. As I mentioned before, I am not a big fan of violence. I liked that this book didn’t shy from it, but also didn’t give full details. It was enough that you got the idea without having to sit and read about it. With having a mafia element I understood that there would be violence, but I was happy that it wasn’t overwhelming.

I would definitely recommend Bad Romance. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting out of a mafia book. I am super excited to read the rest in the series. By chapter 5 of this book, I was ready to read the others. Bad Romance was a strong lead into hopefully great series! I usually don’t buy books, because I get so many free ones through the book store. This series isn’t on Kindle Unlimited, but I am totally willing to shell out the money to find out what happens in the rest of the series.

*I received a free copy of the book for review from the author via Voracious Readers Only*

This book has been on my radar for a while because it kept popping up in my recommendations. I put it in my wish list, but never bought it, so when Net Galley offered an ARC, I jumped at the chance to try it. I'm so glad I did, and I will be purchasing the rest of this series immediately because I really loved it. An intelligent capable curvy woman paired with a super protective alpha who wants her because of her personality and fire even if they both enjoy her submission in the bedroom. ( Don't let the word submission freak you out if you're not into BDSM. This is not that.) I thought the characters were great. Gio's brothers, Hector, and Mary are my favorites. Though this was a Mafia related romance, don't skip it if Mafia isn't your thing. It's not really focused on that part of the equation at all. It is a fantastic story of how love develops with unique relationships and plenty of drama and suspense to keep it interesting and moving quickly. I'm very excited to get book two and read Mary's story.

Great read from a newer author. The story is full of suspense, angst, and chemistry between Gio/Jazzy with an evolving riveting story line. It's has plenty of sexual attraction and sizzling chemistry and does not fail to deliver a story that will hold your attention from beginning to the end. Both characters have baggage and histories that are peeled away as you get further into the story. It's a great mafia read even though it is an arranged marriage storyline. The arranged marriage has been done by numerous authors in the past. Some authors have been very successful in this genre and others have not. This is an arranged marriage story that the author has done well. Both characters are strong and engaging in their own right but both have their vulnerabilities.

Bell has done a good job. The Leader is definitely worth reading.

Wow!

Wow! I loved this! It is a refreshing change from the historical novels I've been reading, but seems akin to some of the medieval romances.

There are some awkward and peculiar turns of phrase that sounded like English was the editor's second language. That and some wrong words like Marino wool, instead of merino, took a star off. It still can be read easily enough, and I highly recommend it.

For once there is a strong female character in a mafia story. Jazzy did not allow Gio to change her. She did what she planned for her future. Gio and Jazzy finally found trust in each other. Gio learned to respect her and be there when she needed him.
